JVC Scores Again

Over the years, I have owned many JVC products. None have ever disappointed me. With that in mind, I was delighted to have the opportunity to give the HA-S95N phones a test run.
Job 1, of course, is giving the phones a full battery charge. As is so often the case these days, the enclosed charging cable does not have a plug. No worries, I’d just plugged the cable into a charging station and then wondered why it wasn’t charging. Hint: Read and follow the charging instructions so you don’t make the same mistake. Put a plug on the end, and the phones will charge. Once charged, there will be many hours of music before charging is needed again. JVC estimates up to 35 or 50 hours, whether or not you have Noise Canceling turned on. Either way, that is a lot of listening time. Should you wish to use the phones in a wired format, a detachable cable is provided.
The phones are very lightweight and quite comfortable. In one session of use I had them on for about an hour. All good. The over-the-ear design and cushioning further ensures listening comfort. Also, if you wear behind-the-ear hearing aids, there is no problem.
When it comes to the music presentation, JVC is true to the expectation I would have of these headphones. I have an eclectic taste in music (i.e. Eagles, Pink Floyd, U2, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Sarah McLachlan, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Martina McBride etc.). No matter the genre, these phones provide excellent sound quality. Music is clean and crisp, and separation is excellent. With the phones Bluetooth connected to an Echo device, it is possible for me to comfortably listen to my music all over the house, on the deck, or in the garage without losing the connection or music quality.
Like headphones in general, the controls for the various operations are tiny and on one or both ear covers. For advanced age hands like mine, those little buttons are hard to deal use without removing the phones. That matter is easily overcome by using the app for your music source, especially if it is either Alexa, Google, or similar device.
With the HA-S95N headphones, JVC continues to make excellent music reproduction products. Without hesitation, I would recommend these headphones to family and friends.

These JVC Over The Ear Headphones (Model HAS95NB) have left me a bit surprised. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. It'd be somewhat unfair to have lofty expectations for something at a $119.99 price point, especially since the bulk of the cost is usually due to the inclusion of ANC. I was, however, pleasantly surprised.
First, the ANC. It punches WAY above its weight. I have a bunch of different ANC headphones around the house ranging in price from under $100 to well over $500. The ANC on these is actually on par with other headphones I have that cost $100+ more. Just surprisingly good. They fit snugly, yet comfortably which I'm sure contributes a lot to it. This time I tested using a recording of construction and airplane engine noise, slowly increasing the volume to see when I could hear anything. My home sound system was quite loud before I could and even then I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't specifically looking for it. Bravo JVC! These are worth the price for the ANC alone.
And that's good, because the sound, even with me tempering my expectations, isn't anything special. It's not terrible. It's not even bad. It's just.....meh. The out of box sound profile is very bass heavy, which some might actually like. I could see kids that listen to a lot of contemporary music enjoying these. They are well suited to playing sub-bass on some musical offerings from artists like Billie Eilish, for instance. Personally though, I found the sound a bit muddy and occasionally somewhat distorted when really cranking the volume. Yes, I realize I'm nitpicking budget headphones, so I will stop right here. I think it's fair to say that for the average person these will be, at worst, acceptable.
All told, these are pretty nice. My daughter has actually been using them as her daily driver and is VERY pleased. If you've got lofty expectation for headphones, I recommend testing them out before you commit. If you're looking for something the kiddos / teens will love that are a flight of steps above the median offering for their demographic, then these are a no-brainer.

Specs
These wireless noise-cancelling headphones are lightweight and boast premium sound quality, long lasting battery life, and crystal-clear voice calls.
Pros
These headphones are great for on-the-go use as they are lightweight and foldable. The cushion forms a comfortable seal around the ear. There are three different sound mode functions to easily customize each song with the press of a single button: normal, bass, and clear. There are also hybrid noise-cancelling, wind-cut, and ambient sound modes. The max battery life with no noise-cancelling features used is around 50 hours, while adding noise-cancelling features drops it down to about 35 hours. This is still great battery life (coming from someone who regularly forgets to charge their electronics). Even the charging time of 3 hours is solid for the battery life you get in return. If wireless isn’t your thing, a detachable cable is usable and included.
Cons
I don’t have any cons for this item! Maybe that they are a little warm to wear after a while, but that is expected with over-the-ear headphones.
Conclusion
This is a great item for the price point as I’ve paid a lot more for a lot less features from bigger name brands. I use them regularly at the gym and although they make me a little warm, it is completely worth it to not worry about readjusting or losing my earbuds every 2 minutes.

It was an inauspicious beginning. The packaging was generic with bare white cardboard on the interior to protect the headphones. I realized it would be difficult returning the headphones to their original box without ruining or ripping the package. I like being able to put items back in their boxes when not in use, especially when there is no included protective carrying case. In this situation the packaging is just a throw away. The headphones themselves seemed light, and the plastic a bit flimsy. I charged them up, paired them to my tablet and on first listen, the sound seemed cavernous and highly resonant, obscuring most of the detail in the music. The bass was excessive and flaccid. The voices were hidden behind the other instruments, unclear and muddled. I changed the settings to Ambient from Noise Cancelling and that helped a little, but it was a very disappointing experience. The directions that came with the set were on one sheet of paper, printed on both sides with the usual warnings seeming to be the greater portion of the instructions. I didn’t pay a lot of attention to them. At first.
I listened to several different genres of music, as well as some YouTube instructional videos over a couple of hours and the sound still seemed “cavernous” to me. It seemed to echo within the confines of the large earpads. The noise cancelling worked fairly well, muting the sound of my computer fans…but that wasn’t much of a test. I played a cd of ocean waves, which is a better test, and they did a decent job of lowering the volume of the waves on this white noise test.
I had to do some yardwork outside consisting mainly of leaf blowing, so I figured I had finally found a use for these headphones. The earpads surround the ear and were quite good at isolating me from the cacophony of the leaf blower. They isolated well enough that having noise cancelling on wasn’t necessary, though the noise cancelling did help.
Now some of the positive properties of these headphones started to reveal themselves. The lightness had a purpose. These were surprisingly light and comfortable, and as a person who wears glasses, these weren’t painful to wear. They were snug, but unobtrusive, putting little pressure on my glasses. Other headphones I have owned have been quite painful, pressing hard against the temples of my glasses and being so snug against the ear that within minutes my ears would ache…but with these I was pleasantly surprised. They stayed put on the head, never feeling like they would fall off or slide off. They didn’t make my ears sweat either. Now I wasn’t playing any music as I blew the leaves into a couple of piles in my yard, but this experience made me give these headphones a second chance.
I looked more closely at the one sheet manual and saw I had missed some other controls. I also figured I should try them wired, instead of using them wirelessly. These headphones were set originally to "bass" (but I had probably accidently bumped the settings when I was first setting them up), but there are two other settings, "clear" and "flat". In most instances I found "flat" gave the best sound. On the "flat" setting, the bass was better controlled, but voices still seemed lost behind the instruments. I do have other headphones to compare these to-one is a set of wired, on-ear headphones with strong but tight bass. Those cost about the same as the JVCs, but those don’t have any tone controls or noise cancelling. The next set of headphones I have are on-ear, were very expensive at the time of purchase, have noise cancelling, but are wired only--no Bluetooth. I also tested against two sets of earbuds—one set wired, and full-ranged, with no noise cancelling; and the other set is wireless with noise cancelling. Now I started doing real comparisons. The JVCs are light and surprisingly comfortable, and as I said earlier, they still manage to stay attached to the head without undue pressure. And they are actually sturdier than I first considered them to be. I also said earlier that these headphones seem cavernous. My other headphones have the drivers right up against my ears while these have the drivers farther from the ears. This might explain the voices in music seeming distant, soft, and indistinct in some songs. Using the “clear” setting did not totally alleviate this symptom. Finally, I downloaded and used the app and was able to improve the sound considerably. I didn’t hold much hope for success at first because there are only three points from 20hz to 20,000hz that you can adjust from. But you can also affect the steepness of curve, and that makes the difference. Now the JVC’s sound was more comparable with my similarly priced headphones and could even give the more expensive ones in my collection a little competition. The bass was better controlled now, with more detail in the midrange. Voices were audible and clear, and the echo was minimized. With some more tweaking, I may get the snap of the drums to sound more realistic.
Overall, these turned out to be an adequate set of headphones. I wish I could give them a better rating, but one shouldn’t have to tinker with so many settings in order to make these headphones sound reasonably good. Depending on the friend, I can recommend these headphones. Unfortunately, for other friends these will fall short for their refined sonic tastes. So…a qualified recommendation for everyday use for those who enjoy tinkering to get the best possible sonic experience.
I tested these as headphones to listen to music of all genres from classical to jazz to rock to pop …not really for phone use, which I did not test.
Pros-lightweight yet surprisingly sturdy; comfortable to wear even for glasses wearers; they stay attached to the head without being uncomfortably tight; three tone settings with an additional three custom options for tone controls; adequate musical reproduction; very long battery life; average noise cancelling performance; clearly marked left and right sides; holds previous settings after being turned off.
Cons-voices can seem muted; wired response is not loud enough--Bluetooth performs better; one has to tinker with the controls in the app to get the best performance from these headphones; charging cord should be longer; packaging is a throw away-a carrying case would be a nice bonus.

Lightweight ANC Headphones. Solid Performance

I have a set of Jlab Jbuds Lux ANC that I was aiming for my kids travel use. They were decent, but they were missing something, a 3.5mm jack for making a wired connection. Unfortunately, most planes still use a 3.5mm jack. USB on the planes are not guaranteed to push out any audio signal.
This caused me to keep looking for an ideal headset that I could get for each of my kids. The JVC HA-S95N is a new entry in the Bluetooth Noise Cancelling headphone market. JVC has had a few other headsets, but this one is their latest entrant.
In the box, you get the headset, a very short USB-A to USB-C cable and a 3.5mm audio cable. The short USB-A to USB-C cable is rarely going to be connected to my headset, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. My nearest power source for the headset will be a wall outlet, with that wall outlet, I have a 6 foot USB-C cable that I'll be using to charge this set of headphones. Instead, I'll use the included USB-A to USB-C cable to charge my phone in my vehicle. The shorter the power cable, the less chance I have to try to read my phone while driving. (Thanks JVC!)
The earcups do swivel so that the JVC headphones can have a flatter profile for packing up in a bag. I'm a little disappointed that the headset does not come with any carrying sack or a semi-hard case. It would serve to keep cables with the headphones.
On the left ear cup, you get the 3.5mm audio input port, USB-C port for charging and the power button that doubles as Bluetooth control. I tried to listen to music while the headset was charging and as soon as I plugged in the power to the port, it turned off the headphones without any announcement within the headphones. On the right ear cup, you get Noise Cancellation modes button, a multi-purpose button and volume rocker. I like this layout rather than the Jlab where all controls were on only the right ear cup.
The JVC HA-S95N are a very light weight set of headphones. I would estimate that the JVC headphones are about 25% lighter than the Jlab headphones. I can wear these headphones for several hours and I didn't feel any fatigue.
Battery life is advertised at 35 hours with the Noise Cancelling on and so far, I believe that claim. You get 50 hours if you don't use the Noise Cancelling.
Bluetooth connection was as expected. The first Bluetooth connection happened very quickly. The second one took a couple tries but I figured when powering on the headphones, if you hold the power button it will be ready to pair another device.
Like most items these days, they have a dedicated JVC app available for Android devices. You'll want to run that app if you want to do any firmware updates, altering the sound profile and setting the function of the Multi-function button.
Noise Cancellation on these JVC HA-S95N functions pretty well. It's advertised as a Hybrid ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) where it utilizes microphones inside the cups and outside the cups to determine what the wearer's ears hear and what is the ambient noise, run it through some quick calculations to suppress those frequencies. These JVC headphones do a decent job, but they are still no match to the headphones from providers like Sony or Bose which tend to cost 3-4x these JVC headphones.
These JVC headphones definitely cover what was missing from the Jlab Jbuds Lux ANC headphones where they were missing the 3.5 mm audio jack. These JVC headphones are light weight which felt comfortable to me and makes it easier to transport. There is a good chance these JVC HA-S95N may end up in my holiday shopping cart for my kids.

I’m currently wearing my JVC HA-S95N Hybrid Noise Cancelling Headphones while watching some TV. They come with a USB-C cable and a standard audio cable. You can use them via Bluetooth or the audio cable. They can be connected to 2 services at the same time via Bluetooth. They cannot be used while charging and the7 Bluetooth does not function while the audio cable is connected.
The headphones are very lightweight. They have a padded steel adjustable headband and only weigh 6.9 ounces. The controls are located on both auricles or ear cups The left auricle holds the power button, the USB-C connection, and the audio jack. The right auricle contains the volume up and down, the noise cancelling button, and the multifunction button. The headphones have a padded steel adjustable headband and only weigh 6.9 ounces.
The functionality of the multi-function button depends on what mode you are in. In audio mode, pressing the multi-function button 1 time starts or pauses your music. Two quick presses of the button, skips to the next track. Three quick presses, goes back one track and 4 quick presses, starts your voice assistant. Pressing the Noise Cancel button alternates the unit between noise cancelling and ambient sound. When in Phone Mode, quick pressing the multi-function button once, answers the call. Three quick presses is used for call switching. Press and hold the button for 1 second to deny the call or hang it up. While the use of the buttons is pretty straight forward, they are a little hard to find, when wearing the headphones. Having them protrude a little more and have different textures, would make them easier to use.
The headphones have an available app for IOS and Android. I use the Android Version of the JVC Headphone App. The app allows you to view the full user’s manual, adjust between 16bit and 44.1 khz response. It allows the ability to change phone and music volumes, and Active Noise Cancelling settings. It can also suppress the indicator light on the headphones, suppress the beeps and voice prompts of the headphones, and control if you can hear your voice during a call. The headphones have three sound modes. They are flat, bass, and clear. With the app you can customize these modes to sound however you would like. It also allows you to change the functionality of the power and multi-function button.
The auricles are deep and your ears fit entirely inside them. They aren’t overly tight and can be worn for extended periods without becoming uncomfortable. The battery life is estimated at 35 hours with noise cancelling turned on, and 50 hours if it is turned off. They take about 3 hours to fully charge and have small indicator lights built in to show estimated battery remaining.
The sound is very good for the price range. Having the auricles completely cover the ear, blocks much of the outside noise, even without having noise reduction turned on. Having adjustable sound modes, let’s you adjust the mix of the audio to the way that you want to hear it. The battery life is good at 35 – 50 hours. They have a sturdy build, despite their light weight. I can recommend these headphones.

Nice Noise Cancelling, Wireless Headphones!

The JVC Over-the-Ear, Noise Cancelling, Wireless HAS95NB Headphones are comfortable and provide great sound. Following are my observations after testing and using them:
- In the box you receive the headphones, a detachable cable for wired use, a USB charging cable and instructions.
- They are very easy to get started with and use. Just power them on, look for them on your phone under Bluetooth devices and they easily connect. I was using them within a couple minutes of taking them out of the box.
- They are nice looking headphones and very lightweight, making them comfortable to wear. I have worn them all day at work and they felt good all day long. While lightweight, they feel like they are solidly made.
- There are on-ear controls. The left ear has a power button, the charging port and the cable port for wired use. The right ear has a volume toggle switch, a multi-function button and noise cancelling button. The multi-function button allows you to play/pause, forward, reverse, activate voice assistant, switch between three sound modes (flat, bass, clear), and perform typical phone call functions. The noise cancelling button allows you to switch back and forth between noise cancelling and ambient sound. The buttons are all easy to find while wearing the headphones, right on the bottom of the ear pieces and intuitive to use.
- On a full charge the battery provides 50 hours of playtime. It takes around 3 hours for a full charge when the battery is depleted.
- I tested these headphones with a variety of music - loud and soft, hard rock, soft, acoustic, male and female singers. It all sounded very good. As mentioned, there are three sounds modes - flat, bass and clear. The Flat mode is as you would expect, where highs and lows are even. The Bass mode provided a nice, noticeable boost to the bass line with no distortion. I tend to like my music bass heavy, and the bass mode sounds great. The Clear mode seems bright and more treble oriented. I thought they all sounded good and I switched back and forth depending on the music I was listening to. It is easy to switch between the three modes with the multi-function button.
- The noise cancelling feature works very well. It's nice to have the option to switch between ambient sound and noise cancelling, as there are times when both come in handy. The noise cancelling feature does a nice job of blocking out external noise, without changing the sound of the music.
- These headphones do not come with any kind of case. While they swivel to lay flat, they do not fold up. While these are wireless and noise-cancelling, I would have liked to see them fold up into a small case to make them easier to travel with.
- There is no App to connect these headphones to. On one hand, I like the fact that you can just connect via the phone Bluetooth feature. However, without an App, you don't get some of the extra features that are often offered in an App, such as an equalizer you can customize, a visual of battery life, online instructions, the ability to do firmware updates, etc.
Overall, the most important part of headphones is the sound and I felt these JVC headphones delivered great sound. They are lightweight, attractive, comfortable, and have a long battery life. There is a lot to like about these headphones. If portability for travel is important to you, the lack of a case and the ability to fold may be a problem.
I recommend these headphones.

These JVC headphones are extremely comfortable to wear during road trios, flights and even just relaxing on the couch.
Pros:
High Quality Materials
Extremely Comfortable materials
Active Noise Cancelling
Crystal Clear Sound
Cons:
Active Noise Cancellation still allows outside noises to be audible
Oddity:
High volumes could notice slight distortion in sound reproduction but needs the App to Fix
Review:
The JVC HAS95NB headphones come with the promise of Active noise canceling aspects as well as long battery life of upwards of 50 hours of usage. Once I unboxed the headset I was greeted with a very sleek pair of head[phones that felt very sturdy in my hands. The materials feel like memory foam over molded plastic and metal as there is some weight to them but nothing that could cause fatigue since they are around 8oz when I weighed them.
I was able to quickly download the app and mess around with the sounds settings for the EQ which helped with the sound production in the headphones. The headphones connected to my devices quickly via Bluetooth but also has a 3.m mm option if you need that method as well.
The Bass function is what i would call lacking if anything at high levels which noticed a distortion in sound reproduction. I was able to increase its production somewhat to a manageable level in the app.
My testing included using classical music, rock and EDM music and enjoyed the sound reproduction through these different genres. I used them over a 1 week period and had to charge them once as the battery life without the ANC function on lasted for almost 2 full days. While the ANC function cause the headphones to drain in just over 1 day of usage.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a lightweight pair of headphones that wont make you break the bank, the JVC HAS95NB fit the bill. Just get the app to unlock their full potential or you will not have the ability to adjust the EQ modes to bring them to life.

These headphones were heaven for me. They are very light so that is better for me, this lighter weight is something I look for to ensure they will be comfortable for several hours.
Another plus is how soft the ear pads are. I was able to wear my glasses for over 4 hours and no pain on my temples - great.
There is a microphone in this headset, this is important for me since I need them for Zoom meetings. I didn't need a microphone boom which I expect reduced the weight, which is a great trade-off for me.
I felt the construction was solid and I do enjoy the wireless capability and I enjoyed over 35 hours on a charge. They came with both a charging cable and a 4-foot 3.5 mm cable with one end straight and the other 90 degrees. Very nice to have the backup in case I run out of charge, I can just plug in the wired connection. I did use the JVC app for controls and also I used noise cancelling 100% of the time.
Pairing was very easy. All functions worked perfectly as designed including the noise cancelling which was very effective. Tip of the cap to the JVC engineers, they hit all the marks on these exceptional headphones. They are now my go to headset. I would highly recommend these lightweight and great sounding headphones.

These JCV over ear Hybrid headphones are a comfortable mid range headphones. They connect quickly to my phone and have a cable I can use to plug into my Roku remote, to watch tv so I won’t disturb the others in my house.
These JVC headphones have an acceptable sound, but can’t compare to my favorite higher end noise canceling earbuds. They are a bit muddy sounding for my taste, but are not the worst headphones on the market.
The noise cancellation in these JVC over ear headphones are definitely decent, but not as good as I had hoped. I personally like the noise canceling to shut out more of the outside noise distractions.
The usb-c cable they provide for charging is basically useless if you need to more than 6 inches from the outlet. I do understand that most of the time we have enough cables around the house to charge items, but this cable is not helpful at all. I’m also a little disappointed these headphones do not come with any type of storage case or bag for transporting these safely.
The ear cups and headband on the JVC over ear Hybrid headphones are comfortable to wear for an hour or two at a time, after that I’m done having them on.
Over all I would say these are a decent mid range pair of headphones. Not the cheapest pair, but by no means the most expensive pair. They will do the job for you.

This JVC Hybrid headset is light and comfortable. The ambient noise cancelling does a good job cancelling most noise while still allowing enough to be aware of your surroundings.
While there are sound options to adjust to what you're listening to i.e. bass for music, clear for calls it sounds muted. Sort of like having your ears under water. There's no static, it's not a volume problem that I could find. I had the volume as high as it could go on the headset and device which would normally be way too loud. It just sounds muted no matter the setting I used. There was still enough volume to hear with the settings up high.
The buttons on the cups do have some raised points to help feel which button you have your finger on when changing settings. There is voice and tone recognition to confirm on/off.
It was quick and easy to pair it.
It was fast to charge, though it was partially charged out of the box. They do come with a charging cable and an AUX cable for a wired connection if needed or desired.

These JVC over-the-ear headphones seem to be a contender for competing with much more expensive brands. I was surprised at the sound quality of these and how similar the design was to some others I have. They charged quickly with a USB-C cable (included) and paired on the first try with a PC and an Android phone.
I found these to be very comfortable, and had no trouble listening for a couple hours non-stop without any sweaty ears. They seem light and airy, but the noise cancelling function worked perfectly--knocking out about 90% of all the noise in the room including the TV.
The sound quality was very good--as good as two others I have costing almost twice what these do. Nice crisp highs, wide mid-range and deep unmuffled bass.
You can also use a standard 3.5mm audio cable and connect these to a PC or phone or other device and listen without the wireless function, I thought they sounded even better this way. But who wants to be tethered when you can be free of the wires. These are nice headphones.

Budget Friendly BUT Lacking Clarity

This is my review of the JVC Over Ear Hybrid Automatic Noise Canceling Headphones Model HA-S95NB upon which I rate at 2 out of 5 stars. Out of the box, the product comes with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable, and a How-To-Use guide buried withing the product white-paper insert. The actual back of the product packaging provides more information about the product at your fingertips along with mentions to the JVC Headphones app which is a must have to customize the sound quality.
The product is rated for 35-hours playtime using noise cancellation and 50-hours without noise cancellation. It is very light and comfortable to wear with its padded earpads and padded headband. This is where the the plusses end for this product in my opinion. This is a budget friendly product, but unfortunately there are some trade-offs whereas require a 3-star deduction in its rating. In my use of this project, I was disappointed in the sound profile JVC has decided to choose. The sound produced was muffled and even trying to select the three sound profiles of Flat, Clear, or Bass made no difference. I found it best to create a Custom sound profile to achieve my required results. When it comes down to product performance, this being a headphone, sound quality should be out-of-gate its primary focus followed by features. Granted this is considered a budget-friendly product, but still over $100, so it fell short.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review of this product and it helped you with your purchasing decision.

Affordable but not actual noise canceling

Got these for my kid to replace another cheap pair of noise canceling headphones of a diff brand that only lasted a year before completely dying. Saw these at the store and considered the price and was hoping they’d at least have a decent noise canceling but it’s virtually non existent. The kid says they’re still okay for now but we will see. The noise cancelling is important for neurodivergent kids to be able to shut out some noise but obviously don’t want to buy a kid $200 headphones.
That said, the kid says the sound quality is very good and crystal clear, so hoping that compensates for the lack of actual noise canceling.
