It Lights Up Blue!!!! Woo Hoo!!!

    Posted .

OK. This is my third attempt at trying to find a Vista Compatable Bluetooth Adapter. Finally success! This works great. I didn't have any problem with this product working with the CD that it came with. I saw other reviews stating that they had to download a large file. I didn't have to do anything but install the software on the CD it came with. I get this to connect with my cell phone with no problem as well as a presentation remote I have. The range is pretty impressive. I can't wait to really test that range out. :-) Another plus, (just totally useless really) it lights up blue when a bluetooth device is connected. I've had no issues with this device and I would easily recommend it to anyone who has a bluetooth phone.

    Great for Palm HotSync

    Posted .

I was looking for a solution to a problem I had with my Palm Treo. I couldn't get my phone to sync with my laptop because of some USB error when I used the sync dock. I think it could be a Vista thing. I was looking for a USB Bluetooth adapter that would work with my phone's version of Bluetooth. It's an older Treo, so I had to find an adapter that supported v1.1. Best Buy had this on sale and it supports v1.1, v1.2 and v2.0. I bought it as a last resort to make the sync happen. Took just a few minutes to install the software. When I was prompted to reboot during the install, I left the adapter plugged into the USB port. When Windows Vista was loading, my computer completely froze. I unplugged the adapter and did a hard restart. Everything was fine after that. I haven't chanced doing a restart while leaving the adapter plugged in, so I can't say if that will happen every time. Every time I need to do a HotSync, I simply plug in the USB Bluetooth adapter, press the Sync option on the phone and it's done in seconds. This adapter has performed well every time I've used it to sync. I'm giving this a 5 star rating because I believe the freeze is a Vista issue, not an issue with this adapter or the software.

    Works Great!

I was skeptical about purchasing this adapter after reading some online reviews about compatibility issues with Windows Vista. After downloading the Vista driver from Kensington's website (this is a 30mb download, and a LONG install. I thought it hung up - but it completed the install and took about 8-10 minutes to do so - be patient) I installed the windows vista driver first (on a toshiba a215 s4747 laptop), then inserted the adapter. Vista recognized it, I was able to pair my cell phone (motorola krzr k1m) & Canon Selphy cp720 dye sub printer almost flawlessly (I had to delete the native bluetooth stack, then all worked well). I was hoping to be able to copy and paste files directly to the cell phone memory card from my computer - but I have not been able to do this. I think it is a problem with the cell phones firmware rather than the blutooth connection since I can copy files from the cell phone and past them to the computer. I am hoping that someone will post their experience trying to use a cell phone as a modem with this device. All in all, great value - works with Vista - relatively easy to install.

    Excellent product...

I purchased this adapter to use with my notebook so that I could transfer data to and from my mobile phone, which it does flawlessly. I have also found that it works perfectly with my bluetooth headset and with my mobile phone being used as a modem. I like it so much that I'm buying another one for another computer.

Awesome software. Installed once and works perfect still. Great for syncing with your cell phone, PDA, speakers, anything. Only con is if you close the utility in the background to maximize CPU performance there's no way to turn it back on. You have to restart you computer before the utility shows back up. Intergrates seamlessly to your windows controls controls making sending item as easy as just right clicking and finding the device.

    Works great

I bought this to use for transfering files to and from my cell phone and it works great. I dont think there was any software to install, just the drives. Windows has the program to use which is easy. So for the actual product, it works great. Its pretty fast. Its small enough. Glows blue which is cool I guess. I can transfer files all over my house. Says a range of 33 feet which is pretty far for such a small device.

    Works As Advertised

This USB Bluetooth adapter was just what I was looking for. My Blackbery phone syncs with it as do my wife's w580i. My Insignia headphones work quite well with it as well. I've used it on several different PCs and it works great if you install the software first.

    User error or useless product?

    Posted .

I will state up front that I haven't spent an extensive amount of time trying to get this to work, however I wouldn't think that should be necessary. It should work right out of the box with whatever software drivers are included. I have this adapter, a Pocket PC Phone (AT&T/Cingular 8525) and a pair of the Motorola S9 bluetooth headphones. None of them play well together. When I use this adapter with the headphones and try to stream music, it is broken up at best with Windows Media player. Using iTunes I hear absolutely nothing and the sound continues to come out of the laptop speakers or wired headphones if plugged in. I have not been able to get the communications to work reliably between it and my phone either. I got it to work once and I could no longer sync my phone with the USB cable until I reinstalled activesync. At that point all communictions through the adapter and my phone stopped working. I've tried downloading the latest drivers from Kensington to no avail. Glad to hear others are getting good results, but I refuse to waste more than the 4 or 5 hours I have already spent trying to get it to work. I would have returned it but I waited too long thinking I would be able to figure out what I was doing wrong.

    Get the IOGear dongle instead!

    Posted .

I bought this product a year ago to connect my cellphone, handsfree headset and stereo headset to my laptop. This thing did none of those things well. I tried every version of the Widcomm bluetooth stack I could find, in every configuration I could think of, and all I ever got was a headache. At its best, it would stream stereo audio with only 4-5 substantial breaks every minute--it was usually much worse. The range was terrible and the transfer rate was slow. It finally gave out completely yesterday. The blinky light keeps going, but nothing happens. I went to Best Buy and bought the IO Gear dongle. Immediately upon installation it worked with every bluetooth device I have--no hassles, no reinstallation, no constant restarts, no dropped connections, great stereo sound, fast data transfer, no need to mess around with the native Windows XP drivers, the works. It's like a breath of fresh air. When I think of all the time and effort I wasted on the kensington dongle, it makes me want to cry. It may work well for some, but it was a miserable experience for me.
