Keurig - K-Cafe Special Edition Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee, Latte and Cappuccino Maker --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #####Setup/Testing/Conclusion##### --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TL:DR Design - 4 Ease of Use - 5 Features and Functionality - 5 Coffee Taste - 4 Pros: Extremely simple to use. Frother is also simple to use. Clean up is a breeze. Love the simple and clean design. Keurig K-Cup Compatible. Large reservoir tank for water. Cons: Unit is quite wide. Missing temperature control. Missing auto-on function. The main reason why I still am a morning person; Keurig. Their coffee machines have always made coffee making extremely convenient and easy, basically fool proof. The Keurig K Cafe Special Edition is no exception. I love the fact of being able to make my own cappuccinos and lattes with ease. On top of that, I can make a cappuccino or latte faster than ordering one and going to pick it up. Thanks to the large water reservoir at 60 ounces, you can make countless cups without having to refill all the time. When I take the Keurig Cafe and compare it to my Keurig K Select, there’s one HUGE change that I really like. I am able to select a cup size (6, 8, 10, or 12) without having to wait for the machine to heat up! I mean to some, this may not seem like a huge deal. But for me, I really like the fact that I don’t have to wait for the water to heat up like I did with the Keurig K Select. Now when it comes to the output of the coffee/espresso that you can get out of the Keurig Cafe, it’s definitely not by any means terrible. Of course you’re not going to get the best espresso when you compare it to something like a Jura machine. We have a Jura at work and the output that the Jura provides is pretty stellar. But you can’t really compare the two cause it’s not really fair. The Keurig Cafe still provides some pretty decent coffee. But if you’re heavily into your coffee, you’ll probably notice the difference along with the absence of crema in your espresso shot. But there’s definitely something to mention here about the Keurig Cafe and that is the frother. Making froth to go with my coffee is so easy to do. All you literally have to do is pour milk into the the frother maker and hit a button. If it doesn’t get easier than that, there’s lines inside the frother maker to designate cappuccino or latte. The froth that the Keurig Cafe produces is excellent. Let me just add, clean up is also extremely easy. When you hand wash it you don’t have to worry about scrubbing cause nothing sticks. If you don’t feel like hand washing it, you can just throw it into the dishwasher. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the Keurig Cafe machine. The Keurig Cafe is definitely not going to produce the most amazing coffee out there, especially if you consider yourself a coffee connoisseur. But if you’re looking for pretty decent coffee, crazily easy cappuccino or lattes and super easy clean up; the Keurig Cafe is definitely the way to go. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #####Quick Features##### --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brew your favorite coffee or make creamy lattes and frothy cappuccinos using any K-Cup pod - all from one effortlessly simple to use single serve coffeemaker Froth fresh milk, including skim, soy, and almond. The frother is dishwasher safe for easy clean up after use and also features a cold setting for cold frothed milk. Your coffee maker heats, then brews in one simple process. No need to wait for it to heat before selecting your cup size. Increase the strength and bold taste of your coffee. Including 6, 8, 10, and 12 oz options. Allows you to brew up to 6 cups before having to refill, saving you time and simplifying your morning routine. Removable reservoir makes refilling easy. This is my second Keurig coffee machine and has impressed me so much. I had a Keurig K15 coffee maker before which I gave away after getting this one. I had no problem with my old one but when I saw his awesome new machine which can make Latte and Cappuccino as well, and on top of that has a frother, I was sold & I'm so glad that we got it. My wife is a coffee fanatic and she just loves it. We've been using it for over a week now. It has so much more to offer than just coffee. We use the frother all the time. This was the feature our other machine lacked. What came in the box: -Coffee Machine with 60 oz water reservoir -Milk Frother -Owner's Manual We have K-cups from a variety of brands (Starbucks, Cafe Escape, Tully's Dunkin' Donuts to name a few) and tried almost all of them with this machine. Taste wise, I would say you won't notice much difference if you just use it as a coffee maker but adding the froth in the coffee makes it so much better that you will thank yourself for getting this machine. Like mentioned above, in addition to coffee, you can also make latte, cappuccino, tea, hot chocolate etc in this. I was really excited about the frother mainly because the country where I come from has a completely different coffee than what we get here the US. It's so much better just because of the froth. I've been living in the states for about 10 years now but have never found the same taste in the coffee. No matter where I get my coffee from. I've tried making the coffee in a tea pan on stove as well but failed. Using this Keurig machine makes my coffee just as good. It's that awesome. I sprinkle a little bit of cocoa powder on top of the froth to add that mojo. That makes it super delicious. I'm sure I'm not the only one to do that. The 60 oz water reservoir is big enough to brew up to 6 cups of coffee, of course depending on what size coffee you make as the machine comes with option of 6, 8, 10, and 12 oz cup brewing. The reservoir has a handle which makes it easy to handle, refill and reinstall. The coffee brewing process is simple. Just insert your K-cup, press cup size, choice of brew and the big K button to initiate the brewing. You will have your coffee ready in a minute or so. One thing that surprised me is that it's not overly noisy as compared to other machines. Using frother is simple as well. There are two line markings inside the frother, one each for latte and cappuccino. Just pour in the milk up to your desired line and press the button and there's your froth. Pour the foam into your coffee mug and enjoy. I have used regular as well as almond milk in the frother. It works great either way. The frother is dishwasher safe by the way. The only thing that may bother some is the footprint. It's slightly wider than a regular Keurig machines but if you are a froth lover, then trust me, it's worth it. You will not have any buyer's remorse. We live in an apartment and have limited counter space in the kitchen. So I moved some other stuff just to make space for my awesome new Keurig machine. I use it everyday, so wanted to keep it somewhere I can easily get to. Be prepared to move your stuff around if you have less space. One important thing that I would like to mention here is that the machine might trip your GFI circuit breaker. I tried to find a solution online and found that Auto Off feature is most likely be the reason behind it. I turned off this feature as I usually turn off my coffee maker after using anyways. I haven't used the machine much after that, so can't really tell if Auto Off was the reason behind tripping the breaker or something else. But it's a problem to be aware of. This Keurig machine costs $199.99+ tax at the moment, which might be a bit expensive for some but if you are a coffee lover, it's worth price. With shopping season coming up, I'm sure there will be sales. So for someone who can't spend over $200, I would suggest to wait but will definitely recommend this coffee maker to everyone.

I've wanted a cappuccino/latte maker for a while, but the high costs and bulky, complicated machines have given me pause. With the K-Cafe, Keurig has introduced a simple solution that practically anyone can use with minimal effort and clean-up. Coffee purists will likely still scoff at the idea of using a Keurig, but there is no denying the simplicity that this machine affords. The addition of a 2-ounce concentrated Shot option and an easy-to-use milk frother will bring some new life to your old morning routine. PROS: - Sleek, minimalist design. Unlike older Keurigs, the K-Cafe looks strikingly simple and elegant with large buttons, circular curves, and a sturdy metal K-Cup lifting handle. The stainless steel color of this Special Edition K-Cafe will look great in any kitchen. - The water reservoir is very large (60 ounces) and has a handle, making it easy to remove and bring to the faucet. - Making a cappuccino or latte is dead-simple: Add any kind of milk to the frother (fill to either the cappuccino or latte line); press one of the froth buttons; and you'll have a beautiful serving of foam ready in about a minute. Insert any K-Cup (preferrably an espresso roast); press the "Latte & Capp" button; and press the Brew button to brew the 2-ounce shot. Pour the foam into your mug, and enjoy! - Easy cleanup. There are no electronics or wands that get dirty during the frothing process. Simply rinse the frother under a faucet or throw it in the dishwasher. Done! - Of course, this machine operates as a traditional Keurig as well and can brew 6-, 8-, 10-, and 12-ounce sizes. CONS: - The K-Cafe does not produce true espresso shots -- it lacks the crema and strength of real espresso. Those with high coffee/espresso standards should look elsewhere. If you're just looking for a simple and great-tasting beverage, this will fit the bill. - I sometimes find it difficult to get all of the froth out of the jug. I either have to shake it rather hard or use a spoon to scoop it all out from the bottom. - The machine looks great, but it is rather wide (just over 15 inches wide). Make sure you have enough counter space. - My unit did not come with any sample espresso K-Cups, so be sure to buy some at the same time you purchase the K-Cafe. The Green Mountain Vista 44 K-Cups are my favorite for cappuccinos and lattes. OVERALL: This machine might not impress the coffee-loving hipster in your family, but it is a perfectly fine way to make a quick, delicious cappuccino or latte with no learning curve and minimal cleanup. As a whole, this is Keurig's best model, in my opinion: A full-featured Keurig brewer complete with an excellent frother that practically anyone can use. Highly recommended!

Pros Adds functionality to make lattes and cappuccinos Milk frother is dishwasher safe Milk frother uses magnetic whisk so no holes needed in cup Milk frother takes the complication out of the process Shorter design allows for more placement options Satin silver finish stays cleaner than original gloss black Buttons to select modes is easier to use Cons Frother doesn’t create enough foam Frother sometimes doesn’t create foam on first try Foam bubbles too large Even on strong the brewer doesn’t extract much coffee flavor Water reservoir is small No screen or other indicator that brew is done Brewer trips 15amp breaker regularly with nothing else on circuit Reservoir handle holes near max fill line leak easily Keurig has made single serve coffee easy and mess free for years and with the K -Café Special Edition they want to simplify making Lattes and Cappuccinos. The K-Café loses the ability to make carafes or large travel mugs of coffee but gains the ability to froth milk easily for ice or hot lattes and Cappuccinos. You can make 6, 8, 10, and 12-ounce coffees with a strong button if you want to extract more flavor. Design The K-Café Special Edition departs from the usual black and chrome design of most Keurig brewers and is instead a silver gray with a brushed nickel handle and drip tray. The frothing cup is stainless steel. In what seems a new trend for Keurig the digital display has been removed in favor of simple status lights and dedicated buttons for different operations. The overall look is elegant, simple, clean, and uncluttered. If the original brewer height made placement challenging, the K-Café might be the solution as it is noticeably shorter than previous brewers and instead is wider. Of course, if you are short on counter space this width can be a counter hog. Part of the width is due to the new frother. The water reservoir appears markedly smaller but is actually the same size as most, at 60 ounces. A welcomed feature to the water reservoir is a carrying handle. Although oddly, the handle goes through the tank near the max fill line causing occasional leaks when full. The milk frother has two fill lines, one for latte and one for cappuccino to make it simple. The frother cup has no holes through the cup but instead uses a magnetic whisker that just floats in the bottom of the cup. The cup, whisker, and lid are all dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. Performance For the regular person who enjoys a variety of coffee from cheap to expensive the simplicity of the frother might stop your trips to the local coffee shop to get your favorite latte or cappuccino. It’s as simple as it can get to operate. Just fill the frother to the correct line with milk, almond milk, or soy milk and press the correct button. Cleanup is as easy as tossing the cup in a dishwasher or rinsing it quickly in the sink and throwing away a k-cup. The frother takes about 3 minutes and the shot takes less than a minute. With little fuss you can feel like you are at the local coffee shop sipping a much more expensive drink, except you get to stay at home and save a bunch of money. About the only downside is there isn’t a programmable on time. If you consider yourself a coffee snob, then this Keurig won’t impress you more than any previous model. Convenience is the goal, not perfect flavor. In fact, unlike other Keurigs in the price range there is no temperature control. The flavor extracted is smooth without any bitterness but lacks the full body of a properly adjusted SCA certified brewer. When making a shot for latte or cappuccino the result isn’t as strong as what you would expect from a good quality professional machine and doesn’t produce any crema. The frother produces a good amount of froth, but the bubbles are quite large compared to professional frothers. Depending on your preference this might be perfectly acceptable. More problematic, but rare, is occasionally the first attempt at frothing ends up with just warm milk. If you are trying to cut costs it might help to reduce visits to your favorite barista, but it won’t stop you completely as the result just isn’t as flavorful. Final Thoughts The Keurig K-Café makes what is usually a complicated process very simple. Regardless of whether you are looking to save money or just drink more specialty drinks, the K-Café Special Edition is a nice way to add more coffee options at home without adding more appliances.

Strong, great tasting coffee with a latte options

Having used a few different Keurig machines over the years, I was curious what they could possibly do different or better to appeal to people who may not already own one (get yourself out of the cave you live in) or want to upgrade like myself. At first, I was a little concerned because this special edition model doesn’t have the digital screen with the clock and all the touch screen bells and whistles. After using it, I realized all the options that come along with the digital screen weren’t necessities and really only complicated simple, good coffee making. The previous digital screen was also one of the reasons for the upgrade because it seemed like it was about to go out; with this model I’ll hope to never have to worry about those issues. Now to the coffee itself and something else I was sceptical about; what could Keurig do to make my coffee taste any better. Well, somehow they figured that out and added great options to make lattes and cappuccinos, both iced and hot. The first simple cup of coffee I made I decided to try out the “Strong” button in a 10 oz cup. I had no idea that whatever they changed on their machine would make that much of a difference but it does. My coffee tasted amazing but was a little too strong for my wife’s taste; she chose the regular brew in a 12 oz cup and said it was more to her liking. The next day I wanted to test out the espresso option and make an iced latte. I went to the store hunting for espresso K-cups but unfortunately couldn’t find them so I settled for a bold tasting coffee to see if it would emulate espresso. I selected the “Latte & Capp” button and brewed a shot of coffee while the frother did it’s magic on my cold milk. After a few pumps of syrup, I poured the shot of dark coffee over some ice, added the cold frothed milk and voila, I had a perfectly crafted iced latte right in my own kitchen without the mess of espresso grounds and very little clean up. Needless to say, I have hung up my barista apron and retired both my espresso machine and old Keurig machine; they were both replaced by this one machine taking up much less counter space and I can already see money going back into my pocket making less trips to the over-priced coffee shops. Thank you Keurig for continuing to make a better product, one which produces a better tasting cup of coffee and additional options to play with and impress my better half.

I’ve always wanted a Keurig for several reasons. I live around many coffee lovers and I would also try to understand why people like the Keurig technology over other brands. Really is it that different to pay more for a Keurig? Let me start by putting it out that I do not drink coffee but I do drink tea and hot chocolate. My fiancé drinks coffee and she spends a few bucks at her favorite location everyday. Keurig supports K-Cup pods of coffee, chocolate, tea and etc so I was excited to finally try one. Seeing that K-Cafe by Keurig have so many options I thought the timing couldn’t get any better. I’m not getting just a coffee maker but also iced/hot cappuccino, latte, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a cold/hot frother. My fiancé have a platinum kitchen mixer and the Keurig K-Cafe special edition compliments it well. The K-Cafe is a great looking coffee maker and very easy to use. I was hoping that it had a digital display so you can see what it is doing through the brewing process but I’m not disappointed. I also like that the water reservoir is not too big. I did not like the idea of having water in the tank for periods of time. The first drinks that we brewed were chai latte by Cafe Escapes and Swiss Miss hot chocolate. They both were delicious and almost look like the barista prepared them. Preparing the drinks took maybe 2 minutes each because of the convenience of using K-Cups and the Keurig Cafe. All you need to do is insert your K-Cup, push your cup size, choice of brew, and finally the Keurig button to start the brewing. I cannot believe that this Keurig have a frother but it does and it’s dishwasher safe. From using the Keurig K-Cafe my dislikes are the splatter from the drips when I brew and it happens when I use just about any cup size. This is going to add and extra step because I have to wipe the areas around it to keep it clean after every brew. I also wonder if they could of design the Keurig Cafe smaller. Having the Keurig K-Cafe is already paying for itself because it beats the cost of buying a drink. As the matter of fact you save more if you buy the K-Cups when they are on sale and stock up. I also had a $3 coupon for K Cups packed inside my Keurig K-Cafe box which I will use later. As a secret special saving you also get 50% off your first K-Cups after you register your appliance on Keurig’s website. I’m getting compliments of having the Keurig K-Cafe around from my family and friends because they love having a great tasting drink. For my first coffee maker I think I did very well for it to be a Keurig and I could not be any happier to add it to my kitchen. I will see how it holds up with time. I recommend the Keurig K-Cafe because it caters to many people and it should fit many countertops. Having the Keurig K-Cafe is almost like I have a small coffee shop in my kitchen. Price: great Setup: excellent Quality: great Design: good Convenient: excellent Overall Value: great

Keurig - K-Cafe Special Edition Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee, Latte and Cappuccino Maker - Nickel For the folks like me who primarily just drink ordinary coffee, the K-Cafe Special Edition is like other Keurig models. Use your pod of choice, or one of the refillable pods with your favorite coffee, close the handle on the pod, select the Coffee button, select the Strong button next if you want it a little stronger, then select the size (6, 8, 10, 12 oz) cup you want, then hit the "K" button to start the brewing process. So, the K-Cafe gives you some options for a regular cup of coffee as I've described. However, the K-Cafe offers more. If you want a cappuccino or latte, use your pod of choice, select the Cappuccino/Latte button instead of the coffee button (this will automatically select the Strong button) and it will also automatically select the Shot button, which is a 4 oz amount of strong coffee. In the frother put the amount of whatever type of milk you prefer - it's marked with two fill lines, one for a cappuccino and a different one for a latte. Hit the cappuccino or latte button below the frother as you prefer. This will froth and heat according to your selection. There is another button for Cold so the milk for a cappuccino or latte remains cold if you prefer iced coffee drinks. The K-Cafe has a 60 oz water reservoir for multiple cups before you need to refill. The only item needing cleaning is the stainless-steel frothing cup where you put your milk if you're going for a cappuccino or latte. You can hand wash it or put it in the dishwasher. It cleans up very easily. The little "frothing" gizmo in the bottom of the frothing cup comes out for easy cleaning as well. The K-Cafe is a good appliance for many people who want regular coffee and/or homemade cappuccinos and lattes. It’s straightforward and simple to use. For regular coffee, you have several options besides just your preference for the brand of coffee in the K-Cup, so it offers versatility. For those wanting cappuccinos or lattes, it offers that, both heated or cold. One thing to keep in mind, machines like this one, while offering much, are still a compromise at heart when it comes to cappuccinos and lattes. That doesn't mean they can't taste good, because you can add ingredients of your choice for additional flavors or richness, or just go with the basics. The compromise is that the cappuccinos and lattes you make don't have the exact proportions between espresso and milk and the varieties of frothing available from much more expensive equipment, but then it comes down to added cost and more of your time to duplicate what you can get at your favorite coffee shop. For many people, the K-Cafe will provide very good coffee or coffee drinks without the expense, learning curve and extra time involved with higher grade equipment. There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you get the K-Cafe: 1) It's 15" wide so it will take up more counter space than many coffee machines 2) There is no heat control for the coffee - it comes out at the heat preset with no selection available (to be fair, most coffee machines are like this, but I still think it’s something that ought to be standard on all coffee machines 3) There’s no actual timer to turn on your Keurig at a predefined time. There is only a timer that, once you have manually turned on the K-Cafe, will allow it to stay on 2 hours from the last use, then it shuts down. There is a way to turn off this feature so the pot, once turned on, will stay on indefinitely. 4) Finally, remember that the K-Café will fill the need for most straight coffee drinkers and most drinkers of cappuccinos and lattes. It’s simple to use and cleanup is quick.

Excellent Bargain for a Quality Espresso Machine

    Posted
    Nathalie

I was looking to upgrade from my Keurig 525, and was considering transitioning to an espresso machine. I was thrilled to learn of the release of the K-Cafe, and loved what it had to offer. From the choice of regular coffees, lattes, and even cappuccinos, the K-Cafe seemed to have it all, complete with an on-hand milk frother. The K-Cafe is still compatible with any K-Cup which leaves you with a variety of coffees to choose from, as well non-coffee brews such as teas and hot-chocolate. The option for a shot and strength selection allows you to still get the same taste and effect as a concentrated shot of espresso, however you do have to find the correct combination between drink size and strength. The overall design is perfect. It's about the same size as my previous Keurig, if not smaller and lighter. In regards to the use, it's extremely easy, taking an average of 3 to 5 minutes to prepare a drink. For taste, the milk frother was better than expected, producing an excellent quality of steamed milk. The choice between the Latte or Cappuccino button also lets you choose the amount of froth you'd prefer for your drink. I am absolutely pleased with my purchase of the K-Cafe, and am happy to say I will no longer be forking over 10 bux every morning to my favorite coffee shop for an espresso drink. Pros : Quick and easy to use, Option to use any K-Cup, Quality Milk Frother, Shot Button for Espresso Cons: Heating time may be slow between brews, espresso concentration may be difficult to achieve depending on your preference of strength, lacks the screen interface from previous Keurig models

Good Coffee maker. Too bad Keurig left stuff out.

The Keurig K-Cafe Special Edition is a good coffee maker, but unfortunately Keurig left out some common items that it hasn't in the past - or at least included with the last Keurig I bought, a K-Elite. As a result, unless you really want the milk frothing option for espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes I would suggest getting a K Elite instead, as with the exception of the Frothing unit and the "Shot" option (which while strong isn't a real espresso shot) . Pros: Easy to use, setup, run. The K Cafe "Quick Start Guide" is short & clear. Unit works quickly. Handle on Water Reservoir makes it easier to refill than on other Keurig models. Milk frothing unit works well. Cons: Additional items that are included in cheaper Keurig units are not included in this package. 1. No Filter, though the water reservoir is clearly capable of holding one. So if you want a filter like normal, you're forced to buy one yourself separately, and it does not list anywhere what type to get, except on the user guide where it mentions to remove the " Keurig® Water Filter" if you're using one. 2. The user guide is NOT included in this package. Instead there's simply a note to visit support.keurig.com to view them. So, for example if you want to look up how to descale the unit, you have to visit their website and find the instructions there - which considering the "User Guide" consists of a 7 page PDF is simply insulting given the "Quick Start" guide is about the same size. (User Guide: https://dam.keurig.com/content/dam/public-assets/kcom_support/K-Cafe_Use_and_Care_Guide.pdf) 3. No sample k-cups are included at all. Though if you compare you might find a sale or deal that includes K-Cups separately on Best Buy like I did (the one I found was online only). Comparison: K-Cafe Size Options: Shot (2oz), 6, 8, 10, 12 Froths Milk for lattes / cappuccinos ~$200 No Water Filter or Water Filter Holder Included. Includes Quick Start Guide. No User Guide Included. No K Cups included. No programming option. Does include a handle on the water reservoir that the K Elite's water tank does not. K Elite Size Options: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 ~$170 Does not Froth Milk Includes both Quick Start Guide & User Guide Includes Water Filter Holder Includes Water Filter Includes 6 Sample K-Cups Can be programmed to turn on at a certain time. Both can use a "Universal My K-Cup® Reusable Coffee Filter" or comparable generic 3rd party one. Both have "Auto Off" after 2 hours enabled, but this can be turned off. Both work quickly enough that this isn't really a factor. Overall: This isn't a bad coffee maker, but it costs $30 more than a comparable unit that includes more things in the box that should have been included in this one. The convenience factor is why a Keurig is chosen in the first place, so while cost isn't as big an issue compared to a $30 Mr. Coffee coffee maker, it still is an annoyance. While the milk frothing unit works simply and easily, it's hard to justify the added cost given that Keurig has chosen to shortchange in several other areas.

I have been a loyal customer of Keurig for the last 10 years. I was an early adopter of the coffee maker, as I was intrigued by the fresh-cup-every-time promise. I’ve had several machines since then. Currently, I have a K200, mainly for my teenager so that she can make her morning coffee or hot chocolate with ease. The commercials for the new K-Café Special Edition grabbed my attention, as I do enjoy cappuccinos and lattes, but have not always been successful in making them at home. My first impression of the Keurig K-Café is that it’s lighter than it looks. It’s a bit awkward to get out of the box but it’s not heavy. It feels very plasticky – not the kind of quality I’d expect from a machine in this price point. Next impression is disappointment in seeing that this unit does not have a touch screen. My K200 does; most of my previous Keurig machines did as well. Again, in this price point, I would have assumed it would have one, since lower priced units do. Because it lacks the touch screen, you also do not have features such as auto-brew. If you have a K-Carafe, that will not fit this unit either. It appears to be dedicated to coffee drink creations. The unit works as expected. It’s very easy to use; it comes with a Quick Start Guide that walks you through each step with illustrations. You can make coffee in various sizes, including travel mug size. The frother works very well – and fast! The instructions say it takes about 3 minutes, but I’m sure it didn’t take that long to see the frothy goodness for my cappuccino. The milk pitcher and lid are dishwasher safe, but it has a small washer-like whisk, which I can see getting easily lost. I’m not sure I would put that in the dishwasher. You don’t need special K-Cups for this machine. I used a Victor Allen brand Donut Shop Coffee pod for my test. If you want a stronger espresso flavor, you’ll want to use a bolder coffee, but this was good for me. I added a bit of sugar to the coffee after brewing the “shot”, then added my milk and froth. The coffee was smooth and well-bodied. Very easy to do. I would say that, if you are looking at this unit, expect it to augment your current brewer, not necessarily replace.

Good milk frother, brewer DOA (twice)

I really wanted to like this. I've used Keurig machines for years now and though they are low-pressure only they make a decent cup of coffee, quickly. However, I really prefer espresso beverages (americanos, cappucinos and lattes) so when I saw this product launch I was quite excited by its potential. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. So I picked up one of these machines, with an espresso sample pack, and rushed home to try it. Washed out the components, assembled in just a couple of minutes, plugged in and was ready to go. Fired it up, popped in the first espresso K cup, filled the milk cup to the cappuccino recommended level and waited for the magic. The milk frother works quite well at frothing, not so much at heating milk that has come straight from a fridge. If you want coffee-shop like temps you're going to have to pre-heat the milk in your microwave first. Well, that adds a step, I could live with it. The espresso that comes from the special espresso K cups is...well...not great. Without the high pressure it's basically hot water run through some grounds - ok for brewing coffee, not good at all for espresso. So I'd rate the milk frother 3/5 and the espresso brewing at 2/5 so far. Even then, I could have lived with it. But... The machine went into the Keurig cycle of death, endlessly pouring out heated water after it was powered on, regardless of whether or not a cup was placed in the machine and without even pressing any of the buttons to brew anything. Having owned other Keurigs, this is usually a sign that end-of-life is near. However, this occurred within 48 hours of opening the box. Strike one. So I returned it to Best Buy, which outside of an excessively slow-moving line due to understaffing went just fine. Figuring I got a bad one (hey, it happens, no harm done) I opted to exchange it for another one in store. Unfortunately, that went into the death cycle of endlessly spewing water the first time I powered it on. Strike two. Back to the store. I didn't make a third attempt. For what's basically an expensive Keurig coffee brewer with a mediocre milk-frother built-in (and some serious quality control issues) it's overpriced and underperforms. Back to my old Keurig coffee machine. I'm back on the hunt, hope your luck is better than mine.

I had been a huge Keurig fan ever since they first came out but then switched over to Nespresso a couple of years ago because I like the stronger espresso's and the milk frother. I was excited to get this new Keurig machine to see if it could compare, sadly it does not. First, let's talk about the machine. Design wise, it is unlike any other Keurig I have seen. My old one was the K475 and they do not compare. This new one is really a beautiful appliance. It does not look or feel like cheap plastic. There are some heavier metal accents that really make this look and feel like a high end machine. The instructions are easy and there are various brew sizes to choose from as well as a latte/capp option. Since they are marketing this as a cappuccino/latte maker, that is how I am judging it. As a coffee maker it is just as good as any other Keurig. When making a latte or capp, the machine has a shot option which brews a stronger, more concentrated shot of coffee. This is not espresso, there is no crema, it's just more concentrated coffee. It tastes like whatever brand of K-Cup you are using. It just isn't the same as espresso from a cafe or a Nespresso. The milf frother part of the machine is fantastic. It is steel and feels high end and does an amazing job. It is easy to clean and I love the way Keurig incorporated it into the device. The problem is since you are brewing from a K-Cup, the drink just tastes like regular coffee with steamed milk. If you are not used to drinking espresso and want a "latte effect", I suppose you would like this machine. It's beautifully designed and looks great on my kitchen counter, it just isn't a real latte/cappuccino.

Prior to getting this, we had the original Keurig, for a single cup. My wife loves it, and said it makes her feel all fancy. Options to make: Cappuccino (Hot or iced) Latte (Hot or iced) Regular cup of coffee Espresso shot. You also have the option for making it extra strong too, for you or your guests, if they like it that way. The latte gives a nice amount of froth. I added both creamer and milk in the frother, and it actually warms it up a bit, but if you are one who likes hot hot hot coffee, then yuo may have to warm up the drink after you combine them. The froth goes down at that point, so maybe warming the milk in the microwave before putting it in the frother would do the trick. The directions say to add chilled milk, so I don't know if there is a reason it would say that vs just add milk. The height between the tray and the pour spout is more than my other unit, so we can use taller coffee cups, and mugs. That is nice, I have to say. The distance from the pour spout to bottom of mug is 6 1/2" and then if you need a little more room, you can take out the tray cover, and gain an extra 1/2" for a 7" tall mug/tumbler. Overall, it is great. Looks professional, has a lot of options in 1 unit, and I don't have to fill the unit each time I want a cup of coffee, as it has a container that stores the water on the side of the unit. You can select the size of the cup you want to make, and it will remember that for the next time.

I have been using Keurigs for years so when the opportunity came along to try out their new specialty coffee maker I jumped at the chance. It is relatively compact and very well made. Feels very robust and looks great in the kitchen. Lets get the only real sticking point I have with this out of the way. It has no display. No display in this case means no auto-on timer. I like to have my coffee maker on when I get up in the morning so I am not waiting around for it to heat water. My larger Keurig does this and I appreciate the function very much. That said, the K-Cafe does also have a smaller reservoir (60oz) than my big one (75oz) so the reality for me is that I will not be using the K-Cafe as my standard 'cup of coffee' maker. My wife and I drink too much coffee and we don't like filling it up more than necessary. The K-Cafe can pour standard cups in 6oz to 12oz sizes if you are willing to make it your one and only coffee maker. Having said all of that, I will absolutely keep this K-Cafe in my kitchen as a secondary machine for cappuccinos and lattes. Why? Because it does an outstanding job with minimal cleanup required. The frother is a joy. Works quick and the magnetized spindle means that all I have to do is pull the cup when done and clean it. No other mess to deal with it. Brilliant design. I will be drinking a lot more cappuccinos in my future thanks to the simplicity and convenience of the K-Cafe. Special pods are not required either. I just use the same coffee pod for my specialty drinks as my regular coffee and the machine does a bang-up job extracting a delicious shot out of it. Overall, I really love the K-Cafe and I am only dinging it one star because it doesn't have the capacity or timer function of my Elite despite costing $40 more. Meaning for me I have to have both on my counter, but I am willing to deal with it. If you want to make hassle-free lattes or cappuccinos then look no further. If you don't need an auto-on timer or drink multiple cups a day then I would say this is the only single-serve coffee maker you need. Keurig nailed it.

Since my family has always loved cappuccino, many years ago, we bought a really expensive cappuccino maker. You practically needed a degree in chemistry to operate it; it was noisy, complicated and scary. Everyone was afraid of it and after about a year of it sitting on the counter gathering dust, I dumped it in the recycling. Well, Keurig has changed everything, and cappuccinos and lattes are now as EASY to make as they are flavorful. EVERY button on the coffeemaker is clearly labeled, it’s really hard to go wrong. If you want to froth milk, you pour it in the stainless-steel cup to the line indicated and push either “LATTE” or CAPP”. That’s it. Everything is automatic. The milk is heated to the proper temperature, the frother starts and the unit signals when it’s done. You then put in your K-cup, push the “LATTE & CAPP” button and you get a shot of coffee. Pour the milk over it and it’s like what you get at the expensive coffee shops. If you want an iced drink, press the “COLD” button before the others and the unit will froth the milk without heating. Everything is done for you. The K-Café can absolutely replace the Keurig you have in your kitchen now because it also makes a great cup of REGULAR coffee, in fact it’s even easier than past models because of its “smart start” feature. You NO longer have to power the coffee maker on, WAIT a minute or two for it to heat up and THEN push the brew button. With this model, you turn it on, lift the lid and place the K-Cup pod in the pod holder, close it and immediately select the ‘coffee’ button, the size of the cup you’re using and then push the brew button. Brewing will automatically start all by itself after the water is hot. Clean up is super easy, the frother and its parts can be placed in the top rack of your dishwasher. Bottom line here, if you always wanted a machine like this and were intimidated, the K-Café is for you. You’ll make amazing coffee drinks and absolutely no science degree is required.

The Keurig K-Cafe Special Edition sure is an eye catching machine that is both sleek and modern. It has a nice mix of metal and plastic parts that look rich and stylish together. I have owned various Keurig coffee makers for years but this one sure makes a statement in my kitchen. With the addition of the frother it is larger than other Keurigs but this only make it even more impressive looking. The frother cup itself is nice stainless steel and feels substantial. I quickly appreciate the 60 ounce water reservoir with a handle for easier transport and filling. I was excited to try it’s brewing and frothing features. Keurig states that you can froth skim, soy, almond, and regular milk. I try 2% milk and it works perfectly. You can select to froth hot or cold depending on the drink you’re making. Popping in a k-cup you’ll find several brewing options. For coffee you can select 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounce brews. You can also select a strong brew via a separate button. I like this feature. After making these brewing choices you simply hit the K button to start brewing. I think the Special Edition brews hotter than other Keurig coffee makers I’ve owned which makes for a noticeably more delicious cup of coffee. You’ll also find a button for cappuccino or latte. Selecting it will illuminate the shot button which you press to make a concentrated shot of coffee somewhat like an espresso. You can also select the strong setting here. There are plenty of great brewing options on this Keurig but there is nothing complicated or technical about using this coffee maker. Keurig really did a great job of making the Special Edition simple and intuitive to use. I love this coffee makers high quality look and high quality features but ultimately I love its flexibility. The Keurig Special Edition lives up to its name. Special indeed.

So I waited to review this for a few weeks after purchasing, primarily because I bought the Keurig 2.0 2 years ago and thought it was the best and it turned out to be the worst coffeemaker ever made, period. So, lets start with the best features: 1. It makes Cappuccino.....real Cappuccino. I don't drink it but my wife does. We have already paid for 1/2 the cost of this coffee machine by NOT going to Starbucks over the past 2 weeks...seriously. 2. It has a "Strong" button to increase the strength of the cup of coffee (I have no idea how they do it without any pressure, but it does work!). 3. Compact. It fits under a regular height wall cabinet perfectly. And now some critical feedback/complaints: 1. The lift you open to load a K-cup does not have a strong enough hold open mechanism and wants to drop while you are loading the K-cup or removing a used one. Very frustrating (I know, 1st world problems). 2. I am waiting for the day that I lose the spinner gear in the milk frother can. Why this isn't permanently affixed is beyond me. 3. Water reservoir. Should be bigger. I came from the large Cuisinart s700 which had the largest reservoir out there. (again, 1st world problems). So, overall, one of the best machines out there that WILL PAY FOR ITSELF quickly and accomplishes strong coffee or cappuccino. exactly what we need on a day-to-day basis. My hesitation is tied to the fact that it is made by Keurig themselves. After the Keurig 2.0 fiasco, I am very concerned about the machine lasting; but as for right now, it is the best one out there.

I usually drink iced tea and those expensive "energy" beverages, but, and everybody has a big but so it's time to talk about mine when it comes to caffeinated beverages, this thing has usurped the "energy" drink for me! I start my day with a cup o' joe. Well...actually two cups. Maybe three. And I make all of 'em with real sugar, real coffee and real milk. The foamitizerizationalizing of this machine is great! It makes the milk all frothy and foamy and I use REAL milk! Sometimes I use REAL Kefir or even a mix of Kefir and cream for extra calories! If it's a cold morning, I make my coffee HOT. If not, then I ice it up and enjoy it just as much! I'm saving enough money to go to Australia (!) by using this baby instead of buying several "energy" drinks a day! I kid you not! And the beverages it brews are superb-a-mundo! Highly recommend? You got that right pardner! I use the K-Cups it came with and additional ones I purchased (Columbian) as well as the adaptor I bought to allow me to brew freshly ground Java! So, If you're considering one of these brewers, ponder no more my friends! It does exactly what it says, does it well several times a day and if you're a caffeine nut like me, wakes you up for a whole lot less than several cans of "energy" drinks! Highly recommended, indeed! Trust me. I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

If you want to graduate to good coffee, you need to get this Keurig. Handsome and super simple to use for making coffees as well as cappuccinos and lattes. Keurigs are known for producing a good quick cup of coffee via their K-cup pods. Now I'm also impressed by their ability to foam milk just as easily. No more tinkering with a hand foamer, and definitely no more stopping by Starbucks for a vente-give-me-all-your-money drink. If you’re a stickler about these things, you'll realize this machine does not use pressure to make a true espresso with all its rich flavors and crema. But don’t let that dissuade you from giving this a shot. And if you're in the mood for a little holiday drink, here's my recipe: fill milk to the cappuccino line of the frother. Then, fill eggnog to the latte line. Then run the frother on latte mode while making a shot of coffee in the pod side of the machine. When everything is ready in, pour the frothed milk over your shot and enjoy a yummy eggnog latte. You're welcome. (PS - I know my title is misspelled. The review system flagged the Latin word as inappropriate)

Being loyal Keurig users, my wife and I were quite pleased with our original Keurig. Then we moved, and our moving company decided to smash it to smithereens. Looking back, this may have been the best thing to happen! As we were then offered this special edition to review. First off, the machine itself is a beauty. It is being called 'Nickle" but it is much closer to stainless steel. Which, matches our new appliances. Some (welcome!) changes from our original machine which I quite enjoy are the "strong" button that can make your cup a little bit stronger than before. And obviously the milk frother. To be honest, I have yet to use milk in it! I thought, "why not try some of the sweet cream Intl delight creamer in it". And wouldn't you know it! It frothed it right on up into wonderful coffee-house quality. And added to my strong coffee made a wonderful latte! Some might think that the frother is just added as a gimmick or isn't high quality - I can be the first to tell you that neither is the case. Obviously the machine can also make cappuccinos which are just as delicious! Want an extra shot (or two?) The Keurig has you covered. This is honestly the most versatile and easy to use Keurig I've had the pleasure to own. It does SO much more than my previously owned model.
