I've used a variety of subwoofers and boxes over the years in a variety of vehicles. I've always gone with 10" pairs and have had a variety of ported/sealed boxes. I decided for my current vehicle to take a chance with one 12" sub in custom box that fits in the storage space in my car's hatch area. I'm so glad I did. This 12" hits hard, deep, and clear. The reality is that there are tons of options you can go with, and I think it's unrealistic to "compare" any sub to any other sub because at the end of the day you're only going to experience the one you actually have installed. Can I say this is the greatest sub ever? No, because I can't realistically compare it to anything else because I haven't installed anything else. I can say that this sounds wonderful in my current setup. The only thing I don't like about this Kicker sub is that it doesn't come with any cover. I had to do my own research to find an option for a waffle grill that would fit it (size, proper clearance, ability to screw in to its current design). Kicker has a few grills that fit, but they're plastic and don't do a complete cover-up like the waffle grills do. I think some type of grill is a simple thing Kicker should be including with all their subs or at least be making as a option they sell (the waffle style and the partially covering style) on their websites. Running an old school octagon Sony Explode 1600 watt class D mono block at 2ohms 900 rms with a Kentwood Excilon head unit with slot ported box. Pros hits hard very hard!! Cons I have puy my rearview mirror on 3 times and it took me a while to tune may have been the old school amp or the head unit but you will defiantly know when you hit that sweet spot. They took about a week of hard hitting to get them broke in they are very stiff at first and that's defiantly good all in all the sound is well worth the wait they are hard hitting they make the windows in my house rattle!!

This has been a great subwoofer for the price. It was installed by Best Buy in a ported box and sounded great. After using it like this for about a month, I decided I needed a different type of subwoofer enclosure. I switched to a sealed box and this sub still sounded great! As a 2 OHM sub with dual voice coils, I paired it with the Kicker 1 OHM stable sub amplifier and those two paired together rock!

Installed them under the seat of a crew cab silverado, firing down. They sound awesome. Hit hard and sound very clean.

A very large step up from the comp12, the comp r12 sound much better. Very clean loud bass.

I had about 600watts going to this thing sounded amazing and never gave any problem maxing it out a little here and there had a JL sub for a while blew it the same day took it back they put a new one in took it really easy on it for a couple weeks then started to try and break it in some more the thing blew AGAIN put this kicker R in and never had a problem sold the truck after about 2 month of it in the truck blaring.

I am running a single 12 inch sub with a 500 W amp in a custom ported box and it shakes my truck good enough for anything I need. You won’t win any low note competitions, but all around great depth to the music and pretty good boom for the buck.
