A so-so installment. Wait for the Final Mix.

I’d give Kingdom Hearts III a generous 5.5/10. Definitely wait for the Final Mix to come before buying this game as it’s like FF15, half completed and hella easy. Sure, KH3’s graphics and scenery are absolutely stunning. And sure, the music is absolutely amazing! However, beyond that, it is an honest let-down and disappointment in the story/plot, in character development, and in playability. It just feels rushed and uncompleted (ironic for a game 5 years in the making). For starters, Square Enix cut MANY things from the game. Tetsuya Nomura stated that there would be well over 90+ hours of content, when in actuality; it’s closer to 35 -45 hours of content. You literally spend 2/3's of the entire game traversing Disney worlds and goofing around which none of it matters in the slightest and doesn't really do anything at all to progress the plot or the characters (Note: you can clearly tell which worlds they spent far more time and resources on than others. Some worlds, only get one tiny little area). On that note, the worlds that people actually wanted to fully explore in all their 4K HD glory were basically reduced to just backgrounds for cut scenes and for the plot (Realm of Darkness, Land of Departure, Keyblade Graveyard, The World That Never Was, The Mysterious Tower, The Final World, Scala ad Caelum, and to a lesser extent, Twilight Town). Then, all the major plot points and major stuff happens quickly and almost back-to-back in the last 1/3 of the game. Before you know it, you're fighting the final boss out of the blue and the game is over. Heroes and Villains fly in and out of the story so quick that you just might miss them if you blink. The reunions of 1) Aqua, Ven, and Terra; and 2) Axel, Roxas, and Xion; are completely rushed and lack any substance or playability. Basically, those characters are brought back at the last minute for fan service and to make sense of the plot before moving on. Hell, don't even get me started on the characters. The dialogue exchange and voice acting is good in certain places, but is often just cringy and awkward. Many of the characters don’t even have much of a personality *ahem*…Kairi *ahem*. Speaking of which, the characters: Kairi, Lea, Riku, Aqua, Ventus, Terra, and King Mickey in KH3 are basically weak, useless, and need constant saving. The only exceptions to this are Roxas and Xion who will completely win the fight on their own and heal you without you (the player) having to do anything. In fact, the Disney characters in the worlds you visit are significantly more powerful than the KH3 characters are. Minigames are another problem. Minigames are supposed to be fun and enjoyable challenges that offer additional rewards when added to a game for optional playability. However, that's not the case when multiple minigames are pushed into the main story and are required to progress said story. Furthermore, Square Enix made the game insanely easy, even on hard mode. Fights required little-to-no planning or preparation. I never even died once on hard mode or had to retry an encounter. Going to attractions, I understand that attractions were supposed to be cool and epic, but not when you get like three prompts for an attraction every single bloody fight. It got annoying and boring rather quick. I only used the meals once, in the final battle. I didn’t even need to use the meals because everything was too easy. Lastly, the game mechanics are still clearly broken. You can still easily button-mash X/A to win the game. Also, a player can obtain 99 Moogle Post Cards within 1 hour for only 5,000 Munny; they can easily obtain level 99 within an hour; and they can easily and quickly get 999,999 Munny. *sighs* Look, it’s an okay game. It’s fine to like a game and it’s fine to dislike a game. There are many people who liked KH3 and many who didn’t. It has good and bad qualities. However, you do have to recognize and realize all of its flaws and shortcomings. Because many of us who are long-time hardcore KH fans and who grew up with the series will tell you, KH1 and KH2 are significantly better/longer than KH3.

What's with all these "games journalists" giving kingdom hearts 3 near perfect scores? The load screens are intolerably long and clunky, the voice acting is the worse in the series, it makes heavy use of cutscenes taken directly out of older games so it'll go from pretty current gen graphics to crap by today standards, there an early cut scene that gets cut off before a character is even done talking and goes to a load screen, the writing is atrocious, the worlds I've been to so far aren't so much cute and entertaining as cringe-worthy. They tried to cram every single mechanic used in every KH game into this one (minus card-based battle) plus stuck ten more new ones in for good measure so now the menu is way too complicated. It feels like there is way too much going on with no direction at all. It's like no one said "No" to any idea and as a result, they couldn't even finish the game after how many years in development and ended up rushing the first sort-of playable version out to retailers. Literally the only really good part of the game is the combat and exploration but they interrupt you every 5 steps with an awkward cutscene and when you are in combat, from the get-go, the game gives you almost unlimited access to special moves that kill most enemies immediately and make bosses super easy (just hit x for a while then hit triangle and done). It really hurts reviewers credibility when they give good reviews to something just because the box has the name of their favorite franchise on it. They did the same thing with Final Fantasy 13 and years later many of those reviews wrote post disavowing the score they gave it because they were blinded by fandom. This game is a 6, 8 if you want to be really generous, but I'm seeing more and more 9s and 10s. in a few years, the authors of those reviews will be correcting themselves.

Not a game you should buy at full price...

I've waited 13 years for this game to come out and I was very disappointed... Let me tell you the reasons why. 1. Cut scenes are ridiculously long, boring, and confusing so mid way through the game, I started to skip all the cut scenes. (Thank God they have an option for that!) 2. Graphics are better from the previous Kingdom Hearts on PS3 but not by much. I was expecting graphics to be way nicer... 3. Game play was very confusing at times because you don't really know where you should be going or what the objective is since there aren't any tips that are shown on the screen once they tell you at the beginning of a mission. 4. Upgrade menu and item management is a pain and it takes forever because they don't compare any items with what you have equipped and you don't know if you need certain items or if you should sell them. Overall, if you're in love with the series and want to know the ending of the confusing Kingdom Hearts story line, save your money and watch a YouTube video of the whole KH3 story. Trust me when I say this and you have been warned!

    Too many cut scenes

Honestly, I understand why there might be a lot of cut scenes in the beginning to explain what has happened or catch people up but the cut scenes are slow and drawn out with pretty average voice acting. There are also far too many of them. I get to actually fight things for about 3 minutes tops and then there is a 10 minute cut scene. It's hard to keep interest and momentum in this game and I finally made it to the second world which is the actual start of the game (the first world was really slow prologue). Now, the gameplay itself is good and pretty straight forward hack and slash with a few techniques thrown in, but I never feel like I get to actually PLAY much because of the cut scenes. Just let me experience the story ffs. It's the difference between being told and shown. It's just one long movie at this point. Ugh.

I am enjoying the game but I am dissapointed that every 3-5 battles there is a 5-10 minute cutscene trying to explain what is going on. Kingdom Hearts is trying to wrap a 17 year story stretched across multiple platforms, all that are canon in some way and it is incredibly hard to follow. I don’t mind putting in effort to understand story but I never owned some of the systems the other games came out on so I have to try to fit large missing gaps with the included cutscenes, the “story so far” sections and keep my phone next to me constantly looking up whoever that guy is that just showed up.

I can't believe they kept us waiting so long for something so mediocre. If you haven't kept up with all the spin offs, good luck understanding who's who and what they end up talking about half the time. Kingdom hearts ended after KH2 for me. I'll play through just for the ending, but I can already tell this is gonna be an early trade in

compared to kingdom heart 1, and 2 they were perfect. Number 3 has no final fantasy characters, only 8 worlds, no sephiroth. number 1 and 2, you would always go back to worlds, more then once. Proud mode which is the hardest mode, is way to easy.

While I enjoyed the first two in the series, KH3 has been a very big disappointment for me. The game moves at a glacial pace riddled with long and uneventful cutscenes and repetitive combat.

If you played Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 you might like to play this, but i'd say its rather tame and can sometimes be boring at points, feels like you constantly press X until you win.

This is easily the worst of the numbered Kingdom Hearts mainline entries. I finished the game but boy was it a chore. Hate to see the series end on this note.

The game looked great and played smoothly. However due to the fact that kingdom hearts has multiple games over multiple platforms it was hard to follow the story.

Only true Kingdom Hearts fans will enjoy this. Boeing gameplay, nonsensical story, and it ignores Final Fantasy characters entirely.

So many video cut scenes. One was like an hour. More game and less video. The videos don't even tell you anything about what is happening.
