We swapped out a countertop microwave convection oven for this over the range microwave to allow some more counter space in our smaller kitchen. Pros: The venting fans are powerful, but they're louder than the previous venting fan we had (We vent back into the kitchen, no outside venting). Lighting is good. Lots of function options for microwaving. The low height makes it easy to see the back of the stovetop. Cons: As mentioned, the fans are fairly loud, but they work. Turntable is a bit smaller than the one with the convention oven. Reheat sensors don't seem to sense as well as they should. I have to keep an eye out when I'm using that function. The reheat function in the microwave/convection oven worked pretty accurately. I find that the Kitchen Aid can overheat the food. Overall, though, it was a good purchase.

Fan works really well
Light is bright
Sensor cooked rice nicely
Love the extra space above the range
I have to figure out how to use the key pad choices because it’s a little different
Had two GE combo mix/range hood and each only lasted a few years
I hope this lasts a lifetime
We really don’t use the microwave very much
but still need one.
A range hood alone works forever

The microwave hood is the perfect size. It takes my Pampered Chef Rice cooker as well as a large platter. The light and fan work very well in our new kitchen.

This microwave goes way beyond my expectations! I do a lot of cooking and searing which produces a lot of smoke, and I needed great ventilation. Last night I seared a steak in a cast iron skillet at very high temperatures. This microwave literally sucked up all the smoke with no smoke escaping. The fan noise is not objectionable, considering its performance. Being super slim, I can now see my whole stove while cooking. The lighting is super bright which is perfect for me. I like to see everything I’m cooking in every detail. The night light is more like normal lighting for other microwaves. As far as looks ... very sexy indeed!

Good Unit Perfect Size for Small Space

We have limited space over our range and this unit fits our need perfectly. We replaced an exact same model that was just over 5 years old. It was starting to not cone on everytime the button was pushed and we were told by a Best Buy service tech that it would most likely cost as much or more to repair as it would to replace it. The new one works great!

First, at a discount, this microwave is a must-have if your kitchen and cabinet space is limited. Works fine, although the instructions could be written in a manner that would be clearer and more helpful. KitchenAid needs to hire some English Lit grads perhaps?
Two other drawbacks:
(1) It doesn't have the ultra-cool KitchenAid handle with the knurled pull and red tabs. Why not? Just because the unit is slightly smaller? I mean the control panel hidden by the door is interesting, but, you could have kept that and installed the signature handle for cosmetic purposes. Now while I have four KitchenAid major kitchen appliances installed, three match, one does not.
(2) Would never buy at MSRP. At discount, however, it can't be beat.

We replaced our 1200 watt LARGE over the range microwave with this one. Got it on sale for ~$550. The microwave is soooo quiet we can barely hear it when it is on. The fan is very powerful and works well with our gas range and grilling on it. We are just using the circulation ventilation but so far even grilling bacon on the gas range with the fan on, clears the air so the smoke detectors don't go off, which our old microwave never could do. BTW, our old microwave was a very expensive top of the line 1200 watt microwave but the fan was only 400 cf.

I was worried the low profile style would be too small inside for cooking larger items but I am amazed at the size. Plenty big. The lighting is fantastic as well as the 4 fan levels. Highly recommend!

Most homes with microwave on top of cooktop barely leave enough space for cooking, with in-your-face standard microwave. This product alleviates the problem a bit by giving you breathing room. Looks great but the installation bolts can be a little longer longer. Template provided is good for installation which is a two-person job. As always, Grapevine, TX store is the best with great service at Pacific Kitchen and Appliance. A couple of weeks after I bought it, the price went down by over $100. All it took was a phone call to get adjustment credit. Whirlpool product is very close in appearance for $200 less.

We love it! It is smart, reliable, gets everything done to perfection because this model has a SENSOR. The shorter profile gives it an elegant look and everything fits inside perfectly. So easy to use, too. And to top it off, the EXHAUST FAN is powerful and has at least 4 settings, and quieter than most others. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I fell in love with this unit the day I saw it. The look is sharp and well made. The door catches are they type that last. The function of the controls are seamless and meet all my needs. The Fan is super powerful, like that of a true range hood. The lights are par to none in brightness. But the reason I wanted it so bad was the space it allowed over my range without giving up a lot of height inside the unit. Well engineered, I am impressed.
And, it's about time!

I was looking for a smaller over the stove microwave/
Exhaust fan to give me more room over my stove. This whirlpool slimline microwave was perfect. It’s less than a foot high and gave considerable more valuable space about my stove. I can now use taller pots with ease. The microwave unit works great and the exhaust fan moves a ton of air and is very efficient

Kitchen Aid microwave lettering problems
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Extremely Disappointed in my Kitchen aid purchase. We paid a lot of money for our above the stove microwave and have had continued problems with the lettering on the control buttons wearing off. I called KitchenAid and they have replaced it once and 8 months later the same thing happened. KitchenAid considers this a cosmetic defect and not a manufacturer defect. But its pretty obvious this is a field problem and their stamping process that put the lettering on those buttons needs to reviewed/revised by the number of complaints I read on line.. This defect is an accident waiting to happened as the control buttons description is unrecognizable after time. KitchenAid's unwillingness to address this field problem is even more disappointing. I did get a customer service representative that offered a one time customer curtesy repair which was a bright spot in this purchase but have been waiting since Dec. 2021 for the part which probably will have the same problem 6 months after I finally receive it. I can't recommend this product with its current control button lettering problem.

Pros: Vents well, quiet, nice looking, works well.
Cons: Sticks out further than most regular size microwaves, mine was above my range and shorter people would have a hard time using it. The number pad being inside the door needs a learning curve but I'm getting there.
I'm glad I got it......works for me.
