I have had this side-by-side refrigerator for just under a month and have several, particular likes and only one or two concerns:
Pros:
Ice is FANTASTIC, it is not the half moon shape that contours to the side of a glass.
The finish IS easy to keep clean, so far.
I am tall and so is the refrigerator, so it makes the most out of vertical space (measure for cabinet clearance!).
The configurable shelves, lighting and "chrome" finishes are nice.
Contrary to other reviews, I do not find that it runs loud.
Cons:
My units refrigerator door does not close as tightly as the freezer door, so at the bottom, they are not flush across the front. I suspect there is an issue that is not easily remedied.
Some of the plastic edges, are sharp...particularly on the clear door to the "butter" compartment.
The drawers do not run as securely as I expect them to and do not feel sturdy.

We are definitely happy with our purchase and learned in the process that KitchenAid is the same manufacturer as whirlpool. Unlike a lot of of the French door options - it becomes an issue when trying to open the door. This perfectly fit our space and has more than enough interior capacity. The exterior ice and water was important to us. The ice bin is ideal - you can actually remove it. In addition, the ice cubes are not the traditional crescent, but a unique medium size cube. We love the handles. They are almost retro in appearance. The stainless does not show any fingerprints. The functionality and practical aspects of how the shelves are situated is extremely helpful to allow you plenty of options to fit everything.
Even though this is a little bit smaller in size, you can maximize the space with the layout. We like the look of this refrigerator, it maximizes your space and you do not have to take in consideration how the doors open they remain flush with your existing space.

I like 90% of the features. Have not tried the ice maker yet. I should have bypassed the wine rack. It fits very well and does not stick out from my counter. Not bulky, the freezer has just enough room for everyday cooking, and I don’t have to crowd my garage freezer. The drawers and shelves we to be kinda cheaply made.

Looks Nice, Lacking Flexible Storage Solutions

We made this purchase to replace an old refrigerator that was a premium product in its day (12 years ago). Our options were limited since we required a counter-depth appliance. Although we like the SS and simple design characteristics of this model, the interior features are disappointing. Most of the drawers do not glide on rollers, they slide roughly on plastic rails, except for the door shelves, the main shelves are not adjustable (except to remove them altogether). A wine rack is supplied, but temperatures typically used for this product are not conducive to wine storage, and the rack takes up valuable space, so we removed it. For a counter-depth refrigerator, whose capacity is limited due to its dimension restrictions, storage flexibility is meaningful -- something mostly missing here. The external water/ice features, and electronic push-button controls are adequate, though not intuitive to use. We do like that the ice reservoir can be easily removed from the freezer door without having to wrestle it from an interior compartment. Overall, we wish there were more options, but due to vendor supply limitations caused by the national health situation, this was the best we could find. We would not recommend this product to a friend.

Looks nice and works great so far. But, for a high end price pretty poor quality of the exterior and interior. Bottom cover should be stainless instead of plastic. Looks a bit cheap. Flimsy drawers, don't move in and out smoothly as you would expect from a high quality unit. Don't expect them to last long until they break. Should come with additional shelf and door bins for more flexibility and use of space. Seems to have production issues with protruded door insulation - see pictures. First unit came with bent doors, second one is better (picture) but still not what I would expect from the higher end KitchenAid brand. Quality control doesn't seem up to speed - see pictures. Overall ok but not worth the additional price to comparable products.

This is the ONLY counter depth fridge that nicely fills my 35.75"x71.75" opening. Even though my other appliances are straight black, KitchenAid's black stainless (with slight brownish tone and black accents) looks wonderful in my kitchen, which has warm/beige tones. It truly makes my kitchen look unique and beautiful. The salesman tried to sell me regular silver stainless, and I'm so glad I dared to be different.
I've had a side by side for years, so I like having just one door to open the fridge. And the freezer is much roomier than a french door lower freezer situation.
I like the upgraded features, like all the choices on the water dispenser, the nice ice cubes, the wine rack, and the humidity crisper control. Fridge drawers are on the small side though! Please enlarge!
Be prepared that the water dispenser makes a lot of noise. It sends the water out in a frenzy. Best Buy installers also struggled to get it level after several attempts. :-\
But overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

This refrigerator purchase gave me some gray hair along the way. The one and ONLY reason I decided to keep it is because my refrigerator needs to fit into an awkward space and this one did the job (and looks great). It took me three before I got one that was just “acceptable” - and even it has issues and no where near my expectations of KitchenAid. The first one delivered had a broken middle drawer - not the drawer itself, but the molding on the actual refrigerator. It wouldn’t lock into place. The second one sounded like a turbine running in my kitchen, and the ice maker did not work. And the third one? It also sounds like a turbine (which I’ve just gotten used to) and the refrigerator drawers still do not open and close smoothly. The deli drawer glides perfectly, but the middle and bottom drawer it’s a battle getting open and closed. I am also really disappointed by the “PrintShield”. Not sure how this can possibly be advertised — every. little. mark. shows. Not to mention I find it incredibly difficult to get them out and wipe clean. Summary: DO NOT PURCHASE unless you absolutely have no other choice. Extremely extremely extremely disappointed in KitchenAid for this product. All I can say is this may be the one and only time purchasing the extended warranty if you do decide to purchase.

so far this is a nice refrigerator. I did adjust freezer thermostat to 3 to keep from ice building up..I also like that it doesn’t stick out like bigger ones do. Overall , it’s a nice refrigerator.

Hard to organize without a shelf

We've had this refrigerator for about 3 months now and are still a bit disappointed. It comes with a rack for wine bottles that hangs below a shelf. We don't drink wine and tried to use it for other things. 2L soda bottles don't fit on the rack, nor do shorter bottles like salad dressing. I even tried using it for Romaine lettuce before just removing it. There are tracks for an additional shelf so I called KitchenAid support and asked if I could swap it out for a shelf. I was told that adding a shelf would risk causing damage to the refrig and it wasn't recommended. I just don't understand how a shelf could cause damage. Efficient use of space in this refrig is a struggle. We miss our old KitchenAid side by side (purchased in 2003) and regret this upgrade.

Great counter-depth fridge. It has a smaller storage than our older one, but seems larger - all plus more fits and even better. There are a few issues that I need to discuss with Best Buy. The fridge door does not close to the shut position - leveling issue? The freezer door does not close automatically like the fridge door. Best Buy is good at fixing warranty issues. Let’s hope KitchenAid has fixed the ice maker issue.

This is an outstanding refrigerator at the price point.
I replaced an original Kitchenaid model with this fridge. The inside design allows for significant space and presents the food in an organized and easy to access manner. The total tech package makes a lot of sense when hauling away a fridge. They even replaced a faulty storage shelf at no charge. Highly recommend this fridge

I love my side by side KitchenAid refrigerator. It has so much more room they my French door refrigerator. I was tired of having to defrost my supposed “frost free” Kenmore made by LG refrigerator every three months. There is room for Tall pitcher ice tea, a two liter of soda and bottle of wine without loosing shelf space above. It is easy to see everything in the freezer and keep the shelves organized. The ice maker has perfect sized small cubes and works like a dream.

Missing 2 freezer shelves. A ding on the front and the finish doesn’t match the KitchenAid double oven that we purchased at the same time and it happens to be installed right next to each other.
The materials are extremely flimsy.
The drawers don’t glide at all and close crooked.
The butter shelf creaks.
The actual door creeks loudly.
The doors are very badly aligned.

It fit perfectly in the space in our new home. We moved in six months ago and just recently all the appliances stopped working. We bought the whole KitchenAid package. This refrigerator is beautiful and when getting a glass of water it doesn't drip down the front like some. The space inside is smaller than our last one but for us that's a plus. We don't have as much wasted food now.
