other than the flatware basket, just about perfect

    Posted .

If your forks and spoons hang from the retractable tops in the flatware basket, you can only place them in the center positions; in the outer positions, they weigh down the top, causing it to retract itself or jamming the swinging end down into the basket. Manufacturer sent a replacement with exactly the same problem. Fortunately, I had held onto the basket from the dishwasher it replaced, and that one fits perfectly, so we're using it, instead. We love pretty much every thing else about this dishwasher: it's unbelievably quiet, and it gets the dishes quite clean and leaves them dry. What more could you ask? (Well, besides a decent flatware basket, that is.)

    Proceed with Caution

Bought this dishwasher two years ago - March 2011. We wanted a quieter dishwasher, and we really searched around and read all the reviews before we settled on this one. I thought we were really getting a quality product because KitchenAid has always been top quality. It is truly a very quiet machine; always cleans and dries the dishes better than any other dishwasher we had previously owned. I liked the options for cycles and the energy efficiency of it..... All that said, I am not sure if we just got a defective appliance; however, the buttons stopped working consistently so we had to press the whole control panel down with one hand and select a button with the other to make it turn on. Two of the axles on the top rack broke off of the wheels after a year and a half. Replacement parts for those cost $65/each. It quit working completely in June of 2013; the buttons would turn on, but nothing would happen, then the unit would just shut itself off. I called a repair technician, and he looked at it and told me that he has replaced many of these KitchenAid dishwasher's computer panels. The parts and labor were going to cost about $525, so my husband and I said, 'forget it!" We bought a Bosch.

Defective design / poor product quality

    Posted .

My first dishwasher worked fine for several months, then it began to leave soap on the dishes and have erratic wash and rinse cycles (stopping / starting, draining while running). After 4 repair sessions and replacement of every moving part, including the control board, Best Buy agreed to replace the unit (not the manufacturer), I made a bad decision to replace it with the same model, thinking I had a lemon the first time. The new one started leaving dishes dirty the first week it was installed, leaving water in the tub at the end of the cycle, and not getting rid of the detergent (even using Cascade Complete), basically the same symptions as the first dishwasher. They must have a design flaw or vendor problem with product qualty of a part (likely the sensor). Stay away till they tell you a design change has been made. Best Buy is replacing this second one with a different manufucature / model.

    Worst Dishwasher Ever

    Posted .

I have had the worst time with this dishwasher. I have had NINE service calls. The control panel (the brains) failed twice. Parts broke off, the top shelf broke and fell onto the bottom shelf. The front is so sensitive, so the buttons are barely touched and will start the machine. The water spinner inside the top of machine kept falling off and landing on dishes. This is junk. DO NOT PURCHASE. There are plenty of others to choose from at Best Buy.

    Excellent value

Quietest dishwasher I have ever had. Does a great job. Only complaint is with the utensil lid covers, they are flimsy and keep coming out of the track as you remove silverware from them.

    Bad computer board.

Bad computer board in this dishwasher. Didn't work from the beginning. Service says this is a known problem with this model and one other Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid. Bad design on control panel. Every time your body leans up against it, it turns on. Irritating.

    Poor design

I bought this dishwasher 3 years ago and have had to have several repairs on the control panel which is a $360 part. My repairman tells me it's because of the design--the panel is just above the door pull and there is only thin metal and plastic around the control panel putting a lot of stress on it (you can feel it give every time you open the door). Talked to KitchenAid and they won't do anything because it's out of warranty. Not sinking more money into it as it wasn't a cheap dishwasher.

Buyer beware - cheaply made, upcharged for name

    Posted .

For the first year, we were thrilled with this machine. The baskets are not plastic-covered metal, which means they won't bend, crack, and then rust to bits. It's roomy and can handle a variety of dish sizes and shapes. However, it was like it had a warranty timer. At one year one month, the machine started to fall apart. The top rack itself is sturdy - but the wheels are cheap plastic that disintegrates with use. Bits of the wheels crumbled off, making the top rack unstable and unusable. Hunting around, it appears this is a common problem with the model. Replacement adjusters are about $30, but for a VERY expensive washer I expected much more durability. Most recently, the seal at the corner of the door broke down. Luckily, unlike the adjuster, the rack is still covered under warranty for 2 years. I would not recommend this machine. You are paying for the name - the quality is not there.

    Extremely disappointed!

    Posted .

Dishes and pots and pans end up with a white film and must be scrubbed by hand to clean. Have tried numerous detergents, prewashes and rinse aids. Nothing works! Have used all of the wash cycles and combinations of cycles. Also tried suggestions in the troubleshooting guide and also no help. After using a few times even the stainless steel tub is coated in a white scum which must be removed using a dishwasher cleanser and vinegar. Spoke to Best Buy guy and he suggested using less detergent. So I tried this and the result was food residue left on the dishes (no surprise). This was a replacement for an Bosch which we had used for about 12 years. The Bosch was still doing a great job right up to the day it stopped working. The interesting thing is that we never had to use rinse aids of any kind or dishwasher cleanser to keep dishes and tub sparkling clean! All we did was add detergent and turn it on. We always thought that Kitchenaid was a supposed to be a good brand but never again. Will dump this piece of junk and return to Bosch. Now I wish I had just repaired my old dishwasher.

    Worst dishwasher ever

The dishes always feel slimey no matter what I do. Do not like having the touch controls on the front. They go on and off with the slightest touch. Would like to exchange it for another brand.
