We installed the KDTM354ESS in a new lake home last fall. We didn't get to use it much at the end of the season, but focused on it in April and proved to ourselves that it was cancelling in mid cycle and waking up all by itself when no one was anywhere near it...cancel and drain or some other cycle. We contacted KitchenAid and had 5 (so far) warranty repair calls with no luck. After the 5th visit, I just bought a brand new unit from BB thinking our first unit was a lemon and it was time to just put it on the curb, so to speak. I picked up the new dishwasher...same exact model...from Best Buy last Friday and installed it. There was some minor mechanical damage to the frame when I inspected it, but it was no visible externally and I didn't think it would affect performance so I installed it and tested it out. After 5 days of testing, this one is going back to Best Buy. It starts up by itself and cancels out by itself. Something is screwy. It passes all of the diagnostic tests, but doesn't work in real life. I don't know what's wrong with this model, but I won't buy a third one. We will move to some other brand. Too bad since we have other KitchenAid dishwashers and have had good luck with them.

    Not a great choice

This Kitchenaid dishwasher has not been the best since we purchased. The cleaning has been OK... several dishes left spiked per wash cycle. We run it on the ProWash cycle and the ProDry and still have problems with dirty dishes. We even rinse our dishes before loading. The “clean” dishes almost look like they were steamed-not washed. I have tried cleaning the dishwasher, but frankly had no luck. For such a pricey appliance, I expected better washing. Our old dishwasher (15 years old) washes better than this one. Additionally, mold grows very easily inside this dishwasher. The inside began stinking only after 2 weeks. Now, we little gag when we open the dishwasher to add dishes. As I stated before, cleaning this dishwasher doesn’t seem to help cut the smell or increase the function. Besides, who has the time to clean the dishwasher after every use? Might as well hand-wash the dishes as it’s less work than taking apart this dishwasher for a thorough cleaning.

    Good Dishwasher

I'd say overall we've been pleased with the dishwasher. It is very quiet and it has great features to insure that your dishes are clean no matter how dirty they are. It is not difficult to use whatsoever. The only "negative" I'd give the dishwasher is that it is smaller internally than our previous dishwasher...meaning it doesn't hold as many dishes as our other dishwasher and I have to run it more frequently. I would not say that it is a big problem for us since we needed a dishwasher that would fit properly into the designated space in our kitchen and the performance of this dishwasher is far better than the performance of our last one. The installer was great and very professional and polite in explaining the installation and answering any questions we had. If possible, my recommendation is to wait for a sale before buying. We saved about $200 on it by waiting for a Black Friday sale to purchase.

    What a great dishwasher

My previous dishwasher bought in 2006 finally kicked the bucket and I decided on this KitchenAid as a replacment after reviewing all the brands. What an upgrade!! This dishwasher is near silent and does a great job cleaning the dishes. I don’t think my previous Frigidaire Gallery ever cleaned dishes this good. I love the fact that this unit has a heated dry option, in case I need it, but so far I have not used it. I normally run the dishes overnight and by morning the dishes are dry, except for a little bit of water on the tops of mugs. I definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a dishwasher.

    Super Quiet and clean

The thing we love most about this dishwasher is how quiet it is. Our old one requires you to have to practically yell to talk over it or blast the TV, but this one can be run immediately following a meal and you almost wouldn’t know it was on. It does take a long time (~2 hours or so) but does a great job and I’m glad it’s not using a ton of water or electricity. I like that there is a light and the word clean lit up to tell others that it is clean. It has a lot of nice adjustments for the racks to accommodate odd size dishes including the height of the upper rack. Dishes come out very clean and dry. It was highly rated by a variety of sources and we can see why. We are very happy with this purchase.

    Quiet, efficient, and excellent decor

This is an exceptional dishwasher. The unit is so quiet that you often wonder if it is running, however there is a nice LED on the front that lets you know what is going on (blue=washing, red=drying, white=clean). Really, it is difficult to hear when you are next to the unit! I really like the top rack. I have tall 'protein mixer' cups and with the vertical adjustment capability on the top shelf, they fit with no problem. There is a great filter and grinder motor at the bottom of the unit that quickly dispatches chunks. The interior stainless steal tub is a nice touch too. Although there are no controls on the front, there is a nice timer on the top of the door, showing time remaining in the cycle. I thought this would not be be visible, but you can see it just fine at any reasonable angle. There are many cycles and drying options to choose from. I also have to tip my hat to the Best Buy installation team. They did a completely professional job and made sure that all hoses and hook-ups used new, reinforced parts.

This dishwasher replaced our 15+ year-old Maytag, which was on its way out for a while. Of course, the difference between that old one and this new KitchenAid is like night and day. So, that certainly biases my opinion. However, we have had the new one for a few weeks and have used it a dozen or so times using powdered detergent and a rinse aid. We do rinse our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher because I don’t trust any dishwasher to not get clogged with food debris. Our dishes have comes out clean and beautiful.

    Didn't Blow My Mind

I replaced a 20 year old dishwasher, so I assumed this one would blow my mind with how it cleaned and dried my dishes. It's definitely an improvement, but I guess it's not as magical an experience as I was expecting. I'd still buy it again, even though rainbows don't shoot out of the door and my plastic containers don't dry. Call me when the magical unicorn edition comes out!

This review is for kitchenaid Model # KDTM354ESS Excellent dishwaher. Cleans dishes even stuck on pots and pans. good dishwasher pods are recommended to use. Proscrub option is worth it as it really does bust up stuck on baked food as long as it is positions so that the back jets hit the whole pot/pan. Cycle does run for a long time but i don't mind because it is very quiet and i have an open concept home. I never rinse the dishes when using this dishwasher, I just scrape food into sink or trash and it goes right in and dishes 99% of the time come out sparkling clean and dry. Even most of our plastic storage containers come out dry after cycle is complete. I would not hesitate to recommend this dishwasher

    Excellent dishwasher, thoughtful features

Dishwasher had a dent in the top edge of the stainless steel door, uncovered when unpacked from the shipping packaging. Since the old dishwasher had already been removed, the installing Geeks---with my agreement---installed the damaged machine, so we would have the use of the dishwasher while a settlement decision was reached with Best Buy. In the end, the Geeks brought a brand new identical--except undamaged--dishwasher, pulled the damaged one out, and installed the new one. The damage appears to have happened at the factory, before packaging for shipment, as the packaging showed no indications of damage. According to the Geeks, it would be taken back, possibly to be sold as "open box"/"scratch and dent" merchandise. It was unfortunate for the problem to have happened, but Best Buy handled it professionally and to their customer's satisfaction.

If you're looking for a quality built, highly efficient dishwasher, the KDTM354ESS is an excellent choice. The price is very reasonable, it's easy to load, and I love the way it looks. I have a Bosch 800 (which is also wonderful) and I've found the KitchenAid to be every bit as good. This one does not have a third rack like the Bosch, but, while it's a nice feature, I just don't use it that much and it's not worth the extra $300 or so. The quality, the looks, and the price differential make the KitchenAid the one to buy.

I had an earlier review where I wasn't too happy with Best Buy or their customer service and that still stands. But as far as the dishwasher is concerned I am very happy. I don't need to load clean dishes into it in order for clean dishes to come out. I'm a "scrape and go" person and sometimes I don't run the dishwasher on a daily basis so food dries on, but this dishwasher has no trouble doing a beautiful job of cleaning no matter how long it's been sitting in there. It's what I expect from Kitchen Aid!

    Kitchenaid dishwasher

Recently purchased Kitchenaid dishwasher and have used it several times now. Nice looking stainless steel finish with top mounted controls. Got free install through Best Buy and crew did a nice job installing and leveling unit as well as connecting water and drain. The thing I noticed first was how quiet this unit is in operation. Way quieter than dishwasher it replaced. It does a very good job of cleaning and drying dishes also. Racks have several adjustments and roll in and out easily. Could not be happier with my purchase at this point.

Works better than our old Kitchenaid that was a less expensive. We have very hard water treated by a water softener so getting dishes clean without any white film has been a continuing problem for us. If you follow instructions and use the proper additives and cleaners we have less issues now. Cleans well.

This dishwasher is everything I wanted: quiet, powerful cleaning. Very flexible rack setups. Stainless steel tub and racks. Wash arms for both top and bottom. Six cycles - very programmable. Love it! It was a bit of a hassle to get one; I was NOT happy with Best Buy's logistics and inventory systems during the installation process. Took nearly a month to get it installed. But BB was the only store offering free installation (at the time I purchased it) and this is too complex of an installation for us to do ourselves.

    A differing opinion

    |
    |
    Posted .

Not sure why we came away with such a different opinion than most here, but we wound up exchanging this for a Bosch that we have found far superior in every way. I wanted to like this KitchenAid and argued against my wife's complaints at first, but eventually had to give in. Despite the claims of additional room, we found that we needed to raise the upper rack to the top setting to accommodate our dinner plates (which are perhaps slightly larger than most, but certainly nothing extraordinary), and this prevented taller glasses from fitting on top. We also often found it difficult to load a large quantity of dishes. If we happened to have the right mix, then we could load it up well, but if we had, say, mostly dinner dishes, we wound up with a lot of wasted space. Larger (but not enormous) cutting boards and bowls proved very difficult to fit in efficiently. Finally, the silverware basket was unnecessarily large and we would have preferred more space for dishes. Cleaning-wise it was fine, but we found the pot/casserole scrubber could only accomplish so much, and ultimately did not save us from having to wash those items by hand. So when all was said and done, we had an attractive, very quiet, ok performing dishwasher that was just way too much of a pain when it came to loading it up.

I was positive that I would not be able to find a USA manufactured dishwasher in today's world. Imagine my delight when I found the KitchenAid brand. First learned of the brand when I was a kid. It works great. Our old dishwasher must have been bad for a while, this new one makes the dishes look new again.

It’s quiet and works well. The display on the top of the door is very helpful. The only reason for the 4 stars is because even with pro and heat dry, at the end of the cycle, I still have to manually open the door for the dishes to dry all the way.
