I purchased this for a vacation home. My 30 year old KA mixer is more solid. The edges of the thin, flat, non-ergonomic handle on the new mixing bowl are so sharp the I want to wrap the handle because it digs into my skin. (I’ve attached pics to show the difference between my old mixing bowl with the superior handle and taller sides). Also, the new beater that is coated has bumps and flaws under the coating.

Hello,
I recently purchased the KitchenAid 5.5 Quart Stand Mixer. Unfortunately, I’ve had some issues:
- The mixer struggles with kneading stiff dough, and often starts to move around the counter.
- When it gets hot, the motor slows down noticeably.
- The coating on the dough hook has started to peel, which concerns me.
I expected better performance from a high-quality brand like KitchenAid. Can you please advise what I should do next? Is it covered by warranty?
Thank you.

When I was younger, I loved to bake. As life got busy, and my space was smaller, I used lower end products. I have now used this mixer 3 times in a few weeks and my love of baking quickly returned. It’s easy to clean and it has its own spot for easy storage and easy removal for when I’m ready to use it again. This is a solid product and heafty. Very high quality.
This is a must have for every kitchen 'KitchenAid'

I have a 4.5 and a 5.5 Kitchenaid mixers in a beautiful teal blue color. I love KA products. They are definitely a must have for every cooks 'kitchen' to 'aid' them in their daily cooking needs. I donated my 5 quart KA to my friend with cancer. She needed one since she tires down from holding a hand mixer. All husbands needs to buy their wives one of these for the home. These are good as gifts, presents during the holidays, or even to gift to a friend or family member because the pricing is great and they last a long, long time. -Alyssa

The KitchenAid 5.5 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer has been a game-changer in my kitchen. It’s incredibly powerful and handles heavy doughs and large batches effortlessly. The bowl-lift design feels sturdy and stable, even at high speeds.
The mixer is not only functional but also beautiful—the Contour Silver finish adds a sleek, professional look to my countertop. The 5.5-quart bowl is perfect for baking in bulk, and the included attachments (like the paddle and whisk) are high quality and easy to clean.
One thing to note is that it’s a bit heavy, so it’s best to leave it on the counter rather than moving it often. But that weight also reflects how solid and well-built it is.
If you love baking or cooking from scratch, this mixer is totally worth the investment. It saves time, performs beautifully, and looks amazing.

OMG! This is the best mixer I have ever owned! I made my pie crust without even having to touch the dough. This is an absolutely fabulous machine. I don’t know why I anyone would want any other mixer because this one is a workhorse. It has so many attachments that can help you cut down on your prep time it’s just incredible. I have already added the cover and another paddle. But seriously whipped topping in a matter of seconds.

This is the only answer. I love my kitchenaid. It's a beast. I bought it ten years ago and it's never so much as needed any service or anything. I'd heard the newer models break down easier. Not the case for mine. And yes, we make dough on it. Is it a little hard on the machine? Yes. Does it shake a little? Also, yes. But it handles it fine. We bought an off brand dough hook because the one kitchenaid had was garbage for dough but the one we bought is great.

I was a little disappointed in this particular model of the kitchen aid mixer. I was the owner of a 6 qt. pro which broke after about 16 or 17 years of service in the midst of Christmas cookie baking. I needed a mixer NOW not in January or I would have purchased the Pro 7. While the motor is great, the bowl is too short and the handle is not the same quality as my 6 Qt. At least I can use my 6 Qt bowl on it. The knobs on the uplift handle and the on and off knob are not as nice either. As far as power and mixing capability it does a great job. We will see how it performs in the long run.

Love it!! Makes everything easy and I've taught my grown children how to make bread and home made pasta. They are very excited and have made their own... (Not to mention Cheesecakes) I own one and have bought two more as gifts for them.

I have had a few KitchenAid stand mixers over the past 20 years.
I bake bread, 2 loaves twice a week, so I am a bit hard on these machines. Currently I am waiting for my 7 qt Proline (with the DC motor) to be repaired, as it had an unhappy gear moment after about 4 years of use. However, I needed a machine in the interim (and as a backup), so I purchased this one.
The good news? It's a MUCH better machine than the earlier "Pro 600" 6 qt ones from about 15 years ago. Those were very noisy, and those motors failed a lot. This one is CONSIDERABLY quieter, and runs cool, which is a very big improvement.
The not so great news? I would NOT knead two loaves (8 cups) of flour at one time in this mixer; I think it would be pushing it at 6 cups, to be honest. So I am mixing two batches of 4 cups each when I make my bread with it. It handles that amount with no problem at all. And, the knead is quite good, with excellent results, doing it that way.
The only other disappointment is that the supplied bowl is very thin steel, with a flat and uncomfortable handle, and there is no knob on the lift lever. However I got it on sale for a huge discount, so I can't really complain about missing those extras...And I have a bowl left over from my old mixer that fits just fine, so I am using that one instead.
I have not used the other mixing/beating attachments, nor any of the other accessories, so I can't tell you how those do, yet.
I think this is a very good value when it's on sale, as long as you are careful to work within its limitations. I'd hesitate if it was at full price, though.
