Customers enjoy the large oven size and even cooking of this 6.4 Cu. Ft. Self-Cleaning Slide-In Electric Convection Range, with many praising the effective downdraft feature. However, some customers found the installation process challenging and the controls somewhat complex to learn. Overall, the positive feedback on cooking performance outweighs the negative comments regarding installation and controls.

When we needed to replace an old downdraft electric range, there were few choices. Without a major kitchen remodel, we had no choice but to find another downdraft range. This replaces a 16 year old jenn-aire that was horrible. So really anything was going to seem better.
The appearance is high end. The cook top has plenty of room for even large pots. The downdraft works as well as a downdraft can without being overly noisy.
The only complaint is that the oven takes a good amount of time to warm up, so plan accordingly if you are baking.

Love it! Easy to clean, huge oven with really sturdy oven racks. The racks slide out for ease of removing dishes without having to reach inside the oven. A bit pricy but do like it.

Was difficult to install being the downdraft exit was way different than my old unit. But the oven works as good as to be expected. There are a lot of different controls/functions to get familiar with especially the range top. I'd recommend spending the time to read the operating manuel vs trial and error.

Pain to replace older Jenn Air Downdraft

If (like me), you find the need or desire to replace your older Jenn Air downdraft slide in range there are several issues to consider and your options are nearly zero.
As you may already have discovered there are only two choices for upgrading your old downdraft slide in range and they are Jenn Air, or this KitchenAid.
Both are now owned by Whirlpool, are the same size and the Jenn Air comes with an even more outlandish price tag than this range.
With that, the "great" minds at whirlpool decided to enlarge the size of the range so that it will not fit in place of your older Jenn-Air downdraft. The counter depth for my older range was cut at 23 1/4" while the counter depth for this range requires a depth of 25" (The full depth of a standard counter).
As my old range was installed in a peninsula the shorter depth worked just fine but the purchase of this new range required an additional expense to have my granite counter top cut back.
In doing so, the amount of counter left behind the range at the back of the peninsula is now smaller which creates a cracking danger at the back corners.
The next issue is the downdraft ventilation exhaust placement. The same "great" minds also changed how and were the vent pipes should be placed. Both the new KitchenAid and Jenn Air models require the floor vent hole to be at the very back of the range in the center while my previous range had the vent more in the exact center.
In my case I was able to easily move the vent to the front center which made it work (though I had to show the installer how to do this).
The next issue was the electric placement, The electrical outlet had to be moved from where it was previously placed with the old one. I was lucky enough to have just enough play with the wiring to allow this move.
if you are placing this range in a peninsula or an island, you will need the Trim Kit which this very pricey range does not include.
Without the trim kit you will have a noticeable gap where the back corners of the range are unable to fill into the counter cut-out of the counter. It will also have a gap along the sides of the counter where small crumbs and liquids can spill in between (and because of the downdraft system this is not a range you can just slide out and clean up).
In short, I can only recommend this range if you have absolutely have no other options.
If you are doing new construction and/or doing a total remodel, I would suggest doing anything in your power to ensure a downdraft system is not used.
These things are costly and there are zero alternatives to one of these two (KitchenAid and Jenn Air) and nearly exactly the same Whirlpool owned products.

This range has been a nightmare to own. I had a Jenn-aire downdraft before. I think I spent $400 in repairs (Control Panel)over 15 years.
Issue 1: The installation was too difficult for the Bestbuy install team to install it, so I had to do it myself.
Issue 2: It is very difficult to keep the cook top clean. I called Support who sent out a tech that said to replace the cook top. I said no as didn't want these guys opening up a "can of worms" and not having put back together correctly. The second guy told me to use a razor blade to scrape off the baked-on food and use "Bar Keepers Friend"s to clean the rest of it. Cook top cleaning became easier but it still takes me as long to clean the stove as it does my wife to cook on it. We use Blue Apron for our dinners. 90% of their food is pan fried which leads me to the next problem...
Issue 3: The downdraft fan does not have enough suction to pull the air-born oils completely out of the house. The oil just gets deposited throughout the exhaust system. It's a mess to clean up after two-three meals. I just called Kitchen-Aid to see if they could help me. The Extended Warranty expired last month. One of the Lead Techs (Michelle) at the Tennessee support center said they will only cover parts and not any labor.
Issue 4: When the convection fan was used for the first time, it made a very loud noise. I had to contact Support to come out and fix the issue, which I think included replacing the fan.
To summarize, if I had known that Kitchen Aid products were so poorly made and supported, I would been better off if I had kept my old Jenn-aire range and just replaced the electronics panel every few years. I WAS about ready to buy a Kitchen Aid refrigerator, but now there is no way I will buy another Kitchen Aid product, Neva!

High quality stove. Convection oven is a nice feature as well as the self cleaning mode. The down draft exhaust vent system works pretty well (especially when it’s one of the only options). It was a little challenging to assemble exhaust through basement or outside wall. Make sure to use 5” or 6” exhaust pipe (4” reduces flow). See UTube for set up videos.

I like the way this kitchenaid looks but the price is steep. Not sure it's worth it. It does the job, has a large oven for a downdraft but the oven temp is too hot and often uneven. It's also difficult to clean and the self clean mode isn't the best. I would give that a 3. Overall a good purchase since I was stuck having to buy a downdraft but I wish more competition would increase quality and drive price down. Don't go downdraft unless you have to!

I bought a Jennair in 1991and another in 2012 with a service contract hoping that it would last. It didn't! The electronics failed once under the service contract and another time when the contract expired. After learning that Jennair was having extreme problems like mine I decided not to have it repaired again and buy new. The Whirlpool Corp bought out Jennair and produces this KitchenAid appliance. So time will tell. I bought a 5 year service contract just in case. If I had to do this over again I would have a kitchen designed for a stove vented with a hood. There are many more options on the market. .

It works fine and I like the larger oven. What I don't like is it streaks very easily and hard to clean even with special cleaners. I am talking about the top black surface.

This is the only downdraft unit on the market that could replace my old JennAir. My old model vented into my slab. This one came with a downdraft but it vents underneath the stove and blows out near my feet. Why did they change the model to do that? I would prefer it to downdraft into my slab and out of my house. So far I have had no other issues with it, but I've only had it for one week.

Pretty good oven, works fine the few times i've used it so far. Not great if you tend to cook a lot, as a downdraft is never as good as overhead ventilation. Does have a smell the first few uses of the oven, but that goes away.

Beautiful range that heats up incredibly fast. we needed to have the downdraft functional replace an old jenn-air range and this was the only option. Was skeptical how these downdrafts ever function, but I see steam being sucked towards this more powerful motor. Happy with the purchase.

Having the downdraft fan in the stove is handier that a separate fan and the stove is better than a cooktop.
