    Great Unit

We've had this unit for only two weeks, replaced a 15 year old Kitchenaid 25 cu ft side-by-side. We are very pleased that this unit is so much quieter. We were somewhat concerned about the loss of interior space as we entertain family and friends frequently. However, the french door design makes the fridge area so much more efficient and everything is in close reach, nothing gets lost. We do find that we tend to open both doors to survey food area when accessing, maybe because we can (still new to us) but it's also necessary to access full width deli tray (which is a great feature). The bottom shelf on right door has a cold air vent blowing on it, which works great for milk. We couldn't use the doors for milk on old unit, as it spoiled too easily, I'm sure by being more exposed to room air. This vent is a minor feature but I'm sure that by permitting us to keep gallon milk containers out of the main storage area that this is critical to making the fridge space work for us. The ice/water dispenser also works great. Our old unit had one that always worked well and this is one of the few french door units that has it. It makes ice pretty quickly, seems to take of itself without any fuss. The water dispenser is aimed a bit inward, minimizing spills. For water we can either push the glass against the panel switch in back, or push a button over the dispenser. The button works well for filling water bottles, or if using the single dispenser for ice and water simultaneously. The freezer is less convenient than in side-by-side but is also more space-efficient (wider & deeper). We already had a separate water filter for old unit, and have continued using it, using filter bypass in new unit, as our filter does a much better job of filtering chlorine (a problem in our area) and the filter elements are cheaper. The electronic panel permits adjustment of the compartment temperatures by set point but there is no display of temperature feedback so it seems to be no better than open loop controls on older units. I've checked the temperatures with a thermometer, found them fairly consistent, and the cold air ventilation appears to be better than in our old unit. The food is kept fresh and that is certainly what matters. Our new fridge is shiny black but doesn't seem to have much problem with fingerprints and the cabinet depth looks great in our kitchen.

    Mostly Good, but features underperform

In preparing for a complete kitchen remodel (moving/removing walls, replacing all cabinets and appliances, etc...) we decided on going with a counter-depth refrigerator. This decision naturally narrows your selection field. Two things we didn't appreciate when going with counter-depth: (1) size does matter; and, (2) features are harder to get in counter-depth refrigerators. That said, we've been living with this frig for about 1 month now. On the first point of size, we have 3 kids, the oldest is 12 - the youngest 6. The usable surface area of this frig simply isn't enough for our needs. We sort-of knew this going in and were willing to accept this since we planned on having a second frig to hold liquids and overflow items. But the usable space is pretty limited, especially since we have the "in-door" ice dispenser (which takes up significant space). So if you need space and don't have the option for a 2nd frig, you may want to consider something other than counter-depth. Onto the second point of features. The good news is that the adjustability of the shelves is excellent. The shelves are broken down into 2 different surface dimensions (sizes) and can be easily moved, making it very easy to reconfigure the interior to your preferences. The door shelves are also adjustable. We love the indoor water/ice dispenser. It is difficult to find a counter-depth frig with an indoor water/ice dispenser. The ice dispenser only dispenses whole cubes (no crushed ice feature). When closing one french door, the other will occasionally pop open ever so slightly (about 1 inch making it hard to notice). There is a door alarm (telling you a door is open), but it doesn't sound unless the door is nearly fully open. The bottom crisper drawer is a full width drawer which requires both french doors to be opened to get items out of it. The stainless front looks great and does not show fingerprints. And magnets DO stick to this frig. With kids and busy schedules, you gotta love these two points. To do it again, because of our need for more space, we would not buy a counter-depth frig. But as far as counter-depth frigs go, this one has the indoor water/ice dispenser which is a must have for our purposes.

I wish I had my side by side back

This refrigerator barely has enough room for all our food. Our old side by side with nearly the same cubic footage seemed to fit things more easily. We had to get a counter depth due to a narrow doorway, but I wish we had thought more about replacing our old side by side (27 years old) with the same. I thought I'd like French doors, but not this refrigerator. Most of the time both doors need to be opened anyway to get what you need, especially the cold cut and vegetable bins. When the left door is closed it pops open the right door just slightly. To compensate for this they have put in a door open alarm. Just something else to pay for. The problem shouldn't exist in the first place. The recommended setting for food is 38 degrees, but I've had food freeze at this temperature and have had to turn it up and use a manual thermometer. I would definitely not buy this again.

    Great Fridge for my needs

I'm doing a complete kitchen remodel and have always known that KitchenAid was a good quality name brand. The plan is to go all stainless steel and I was looking for a french door fridge. When the delivery guys brought it in I told them to leave it in the middle of the kitchen floor and I would roll it in place. After they left, I was shocked to find that the space was too small for the fridge (lesson learned - measure twice). I've done some additional work to make it fit, but that's a long story. As for the fridge: great looking, plenty of room, but be careful, frozen pizza won't fit in the bottom freezer as it is divided in 2 separate areas. Also, hold a glass high when dispensing ice, or it end up on the floor. But it's still a great fridge in spite of my 2 small gripes.

Product rusts out in three months

We selected the Kitchenaid because we thought it was a good brand. Three months after delivery the stainless steel door began to rust out. I called the company and they told me the problem was "cosmetic" and was not covered. I escallated it as high as I could but received the same message - not under warrenty. This is a bad product. Worst thing is this is it is a very poor company. Stay away from them.

    No Crushed Ice!

I was very disappointed that this pricey refrigerator would not dispense crushed ice - seems pretty basic. Also the refrigerator portion is not big enough to store 12 pack canned sodas lengthwise for easy dispensing. Had I seen this refrigerator in the store I definately would not have ordered! Very disappointed!

Great fridge, missing one key feature

This is a great fridge: doors open easily, plenty of shelf space, drawers open freely even when full. Only drawback is the lack of a crushed iced feature for such a high-end fridge.

What we like the most about this refrigerator is the ability to get so much more into it then the side by side we previously had.

Nice refrigerator, high end price. I expected a more high-end look and larger ice container. This model was not displayed anywhere locally.

It's a nice fridge. looks nice and sleek. the freezer is a bit short on space so maybe look for something bigger if you need more space.
