Non-Repairable after 2 and 1/2 years of use.

BEWARE: KitchenAid/Whirlpool/Kenmore does not stand behind their products. Short Version: I have an expensive counter depth KitchenAid refrigerator that is 2.5 years old (still paying for it) that I have to replace because it has been diagnosed as non-repairable. I spent much effort jumping through hoops for KitchenAid/Whirlpool Customer Support, only to be told that I should have got an extended warranty. Long Version: Problem: NON-REPAIRABLE Refrigerator - Broken wire in cabinet. Product: KitchenAid 25 cu.ft. refrigerator (Model #:KSCS25FVMK01) Age of Appliance: 2.5 years old (still paying for it) It started out as an intermittent problem with the ice/water dispenser going out. It quickly escalated to the ice/water dispenser, ice maker, and defrost heater completely going out. It took almost a month, 3 service technician and 3 computer boards to diagnose the problem. A broken neutral wire in the cabinet that cannot be fixed. I called KitchenAid to let them know that an non-repairable 2.5 year old refrigerator is unacceptable. KitchenAid/Whirlpool customer support would not even listen to my problem until I had a Authorized KitchenAid Repair company look at the refrigerator. I purchased all my KitchenAid and Kenmore appliances from Sears so I have been going through Sears Home Services (A&E Factory Services) for repair service. I was told by KitchenAid Customer Support that Sears Home Services (A&E Factory Services) are not KitchenAid Authorized??? 4 phone calls and a few hours later I could not convince KitchenAid custom support otherwise so I gave up and had Kitchen Customer Support schedule a service repair for me. I take yet another half day off of work and who shows up to verify that my non-repairable refrigerator is truly non-repairable but A&E Factory Services (same company as the previous service calls). Conclusion, Yes it is non-repairable. I called KitchenAid Customer Support the next day to verify they had all the information they needed to review the case. They said it would be reviewed in 5 business days. I called them 5 days later to find out that the case still did not get reviewed. I called back 5 days later to find out the case was never up for review but I was assured it would be reviewed in the next 24 hours. I called back in 2 days to find out that they did not have the technical data they needed. Here is where I am a little confused because I was speaking with Barbara who said it was rejected by the review committee because of lack of technical data. I was then passed off to the supervisor, Debbie (ID #3277) who told me that there was nothing they could do about it. I should have purchased the extended warranty. I never dreamed that I would be replacing my refrigerator before I finished paying for it. Thanks for the "KitchenAid/Whirlpool Customer Experience"!

    Great choice for small kitchens

Our favorite aspects: --Fits into very tight spaces in your cabinetry(but this also means you will find it cramped--esp. the freezer--if you are looking for and able to house a more standard size unit). --VERY quiet when running --Brushed stainless surface is surprisingly resistant to fingerprinting and provides very easy, smear-free cleaning w/simple, inexpensive glass cleaners --Excellent energy efficiency --Attractive design (but do note: the sides are NOT stainless-- you can order "monochrome" finish which provides a dark grey orange-peel surface which matches the bottom panel and looks more consistent w/stainless than black; if you don't specify 'monochrome' you will get black sides, bottom and icemaker trim) --Keeps veggies fresh and crisp far, far longer than my Frigidaire or Whirlpool ever did--weeks of useable crisp freshness --Clear bins really help remind you of what you have --We can put the glass shelves in our dishwasher for easy cleaning --Love the SBS design since stooping and digging around in a bottom-freezer got old for me fast and I vowed never again. --Water filter works very well and the filter age/status tracker on the front panel is very helpful. --Theater lighting great for avoiding spills when filling ice or water Have had for several months and we are so far nothing but pleased. Good value for the money.

    Kitchenaid is the worst investment

Spent over $8000 on all Kitchenaid Architectural Series Stainless Steel appliances. Thought my initial investment would pay off in the long run. To date, my appliances are 3 years old and the dishwasher has been serviced 4 times by kitchenaid, trash compactor makes loud awkward sounds, refrigerator has 2 broken drawers and ice maker went out costing me $150.00 to fix and 3 months for parts. Microwave door spring broke and had to be replaced. The only thing that has worked perfectly is the cook-top, which I love. I called Kitchenaid in the first year and they repaired the dishwasher. Now, being beyond the first year, I get no response from Kitchenaid. I have had GE and Whirlpool (Kitchenaid's cheaper line) and never had a problem with longevity and durability. I urge all to research Kitchenaid before buying and be leary of spending more money for what is perceived a superior product.

    Poor Ice Maker System

Since purchasing this refrigerator in December 2010 and installing it in January 2011, we've had it serviced twice. The ice maker bin constanting sticks to freezer door due to excess ice collecting under bin. We asked the service man which refrigerator is best to purchase with an ice maker and he suggested the one with a built in ice maker in the freezer not on the freezer door. The ice bin will continure to get stuck due to freezer door being opened which cause ice to melt under bin and then getting hard. I usually write positive reviews, however, since this is not a small investiment and may help someone with their purchase.

I got this refrigerator about a week ago and I love it! It has plenty of room for everything and the adjustable shelves in the door are great. I like the glass shelves and clear plastic bins as it makes everything easy to see. My old frig had solid plastic bins and it was like out of sight out of mind - I could never remember what I had in the meat and vegetable bins. The freezer is really nice too - lots of room. I was a little leary about the stainless steel and fingerprints but so far it hasn't been a problem and the few fingerprints I do get clean off easily.

I have had the refridgerator for about a month and have no issues. Before I puchased it I read several reviews, and a couple indicated it was noisy. I was concerned because I live in a small townhouse and the kitchen is not big and close to the living area. Well, this really doesnt make any noise at all. The water/ice work well. I did get the real stainless steel, I didn't think I would have a problem with fingerprints because i have no children and you use the handles- but despite that there are figerprints and smudges. If I had to buy again, I may choose the stainless 'like'

The water line is too close to the freezer and makes the water freeze. they had to order a new door for my new refrigerator. Big hassle.
