Kitchenaid old style fridgePosted
I purchased this refrigerator primarily because I wanted a stainless steel look to go with an updated kitchen. I also needed a 33" wide unit, with the freezer in the bottom, and I didn't want an ice maker, which was optional. My old refrigerator was 25 years old, and still going strong, but it didn't match my other new appliances. It's important to explain that, because new appliances - any new appliances nowadays - aren't made of the quality that went into their manufacture 20-30-(even 50!) years ago. The shelves, bins, etc in this new unit are made of a plastic that will likely crack before a year or two goes by, but that's what's available out there for an affordable price. The fridge looks great in my kitchen, the delivery guys did a wonderful job bringing it in (stairs - and snow - were involved!), and I do appreciate a few features that my old fridge didn't offer, like the LED lighting, and full width "deli drawer". On the downside, I had a hard time getting one of the split shelves to lock in place properly, but my husband finally got it to click in. Would have liked to be able to re-position the dividers in the freezer, but that's not possible. I'm somewhat concerned about the stability of the freezer drawer... it feels like you have to pull it out being careful to pull from the exact middle of the handle, or the drawer will shimmy a little - an issue not found in swing door freezers. Overall, I'm content with this unit as it didn't have features that I wasn't interested in, and was of the size, color and style that I did want. I would recommend it to anyone who had the same list of preferred features that I did. I will update this review once I have more experience and details to share.
