We are big fans of KitchenAid. We went to mix the simple ingredients for a cheesecake to today and it wouldn't come on. I tried everything and finally jiggled the mixer head and it came on. However it made this grinding noise and the motor sound went on and off and up and down. It sounded like it was dying. I tried to get the project done while doing whatever it took to keep it running. It sounded awful and while setting it on one speed, it would speed up and slow down erratically. It's a very simple device and obviously the gear box it shot (at the very least). Naturally the 1 year warranty is over so I called the factory to see about repair. The bottom line is that it will cost more to ship and fix than to buy a new one. I like KitchenAid, and I agree that I may have just gotten a defective one, but this is really not cool. I just recently replaced a small KitchenAid food processor that died and that was not acceptable at all either. Worse still is that when I called the manufacturer about the repair options, they tried to Up Sell me on a new one instead of being embarrassed by their failure. I will probably replace it with another but I'm upset that a brand that prides itself on quality could allow themselves to look so cheesy.

I gave it a low rating because initially when I had bought this it was delivered to my elderly neighbor across the street. Contacted best buy that I had not received any package, they were quick to respond and send a new one. A couple days later, I received a note from my neighbor's caretaker that there was a package for me. Cancelled the new replacement order. That being said, that experience was not pleasant. As for the mixer itself, for the price it's not worth the hype. It simply does not mix my ingredients well (always have to use a spatula to move the bottom ingredients). I barely use it, it's like a big bulky dinosaur on my kitchen countertop that reminds me I spent almost 300 on crap. I often opt out for the whisk and a regular kitchen bowl because it's faster than having to deal with unmixed mixtures and then cleaning a lot of pieces. Don't choose boysenberry, I don't know what I was thinking! Not close to a maroon color or any other shade of purple. It will stick out in your kitchen like a sore thumb. The only good use left would be to get accessory attachments but I'm sure I can find more reliable products that would function the same at a lower cost.

I purchased this mixer for my wife. She has always wanted a Kitchen Aid Mixer. They are known for their high quality. Upon delivery, the pour shield was warped and we had to call and have it replaced. Then, about 3 weeks later, the paint/plastic started chipping off the main beater around the neck (an area that doesn't even get near the bowl). It started chipping even though we were hand washing it. That being said, interacting with Kitchen Aid to get the replacements have been great. They were courteous and prompt. We are still waiting on the new beater but it should be here shortly. We also had to adjust the "Factory Settings" as shown in the manual because it wasn't quite getting close enough to the bottom so that it would mix the ingredients thoroughly. It was easy to adjust and the directions were clear. Overall, it seems like a good purchase. Time will tell : @@@@@@@

    Beware of "Stubborn" Bowl

I was so excited to get my new Artisan mixer and begin using it. When I mixed my first batch of pie crust, the residue from the metal bowl came off in my batter. I called Customer Service and was told I had a stubborn bowl that needed to be treated with olive oil and re-washed. After doing this FIVE TIMES, it still had residue. Customer Service was very nice and we finally worked out a deal for a new bowl; however, it would have been nice of them to alert customers to this possibility. Ingredients are not cheap, and this was a very disappointing experience.

I was having trouble mixing up my recipes. Especially the stiffer cookie batters & dips with cream cheese. Just to hard on my hands & wrists to stir enough for combining all the ingredients. Mixing is fun again, love it. I got the Artisan series 5 quart in blue willow. The only criticism I have is not with the mixer itself, it's beautiful & works perfect. The problem is the Pouring Shield that came with it. I'm so glad I didn't pay extra for it. If it doesn't come with your mixer, don't spend the money. I thought it would be a helpful attachment but it's not. It's useless and annoying. Mine pops off continuously during the mixing process, gets in the way & no amount of adjusting will keep it on.It's a great idea, just doesn't work.

I bought this with some concern for durability, having read accounts of stripped gears and a general decline in quality compared to older models. So far it was worked fine. It did seem to strain while creaming butter, reinforcing my concerns about durability and build quality. The thing weighs a ton, but the interior components are the more important parts in the long term. It is difficult to add ingredients to this mixer with the top down. There is a plastic guide to help, but it can be a very messy process. I purchased the paddle with scraper and that works well. As of now, I would recommend this with some cautions. Ask again in six years and I'll let you know if this was worth it or not.

The KitchenAid name has been something that stood for quality, and that does come with a slight cost, but it is worth it! This mixer has been GREAT!! I don't know why we waited so long to get one, we use it much more often than I thought we would. We have made several cheese cakes (mixing very heavy ingredients together with ease), gluten free waffle batter, fresh whipped cream for toppings at Thanksgiving. If you are on the fence, buy this thing!! You will come up with excuses to make stuff!!!

A must have for any kitchen! Spend more time enjoying cooking and family. Variable speed, tools and easy to use makes mixing a breeze. Allows more time to focus on ingredients with less elbow grease doing manual mixing. Safe to use with your little ones who aspire to help in the kitchen.
