    Fresh Ground Meat at Home

I've always wanted a meat grinder at home. While this seems like an odd thing, I grew up in a restaurant family and we had the big industrial one and I thought it was super cool how you could drop in a chopped up steak and a burger would come out the other side. The KitchenAid meat grinder gives me that experience at home. No more guessing what's in the pre-ground meat at the store. I buy the cuts I want and make my hamburgers, meatballs, and sausages to the texture and flavor I want. The only catch with this one if the meat is fatty, it needs to be fairly firm going into the grinder or it will jam, so I find it helps to pre-cut then freeze the meat for several hours before grinding. It doesn't need to be rock hard, but it shouldn't be "palm soft" either. The meat grinder works quickly and efficiently though I wish the meat would drop down instead of horizontally because sometimes it can make a mess when there's a clog that suddenly gets cleared. The attachment is easy to disassemble and clean.

We purchased the KitchenAid Food Grinder Attachment to be able to produce our own ground up healthier meats. We like our hamburgers to be very lean. We also like chicken burger, but find the cost of ground chicken to be expensive. We can grind meats and add spices all at the same time. This attachment just makes it a lot easier and more convenient seeing how we have the KitchenAid stand mixer already. It is extremely easy to use and cleanup is a breeze too. Even though some parts of it are made of plastic, it seems to be very durable. We have tried a lot of the different KitchenAid attachments and feel this one will be used a lot. We do recommend this Food Grinder Attachment. We did make a video of this attachment when we first purchased it, showing it in action. Just click on the link at right.

I chose Bestbuy to get the grinder attachment only because thy advertised as including a wooden stomper. The plastic stomper is not as good. I drove 20 miles to the store and learned that they did not stock it in the store and tat I would have to order it online. No one at te store offered to order it then. Twenty miles back home to order it. When it arrived it did not have the wooden stomper as advertised. I called best but customer service and she agreed that I should have received a wooden stomper with the food grinder. I was told I would have to take the food grinder to the store even though it was ordered online (another 40 mile rund trip) and when the new one came it I could pick it up. Yet another 40 mile round trip with no assurance that the replacement would have a wooden stomper. My time and 120 miles of drving was not worth it. I bought some oak and made a stomper. If I had only known there were places I could have purchased the food grinder for less money and would have saved enough to pay for the material to make the stomper. Very poor customer service.

I have tried it only once and it did the job. I did follow some of the recommendations to put the meat in the freezer for short time to help grinding, and results were OK. Next batch I did was with the meat that was in the fridge and result was the same. In both cases I was able to grind the meat without any problems. This is not a fast grinder but for small batches of meat it is sufficient. Cleaning was easy. I cannot say anything about the quality yet, the time will tell, but I don't like the plastic body and the pusher. Overall I would recommend this accessory if you already have the mixer.

I don't like the new plunger/wrench combination. It seems food sticks to this tool worse than the old wooden plunger. I bought this to replace one I already had; the housing had cracked from too much pasta dough processing through it. For a while I used a large hose clamp to keep the crack from spreading, but eventually it became too much of a hassle to keep the clamp clean. So, other than it being plastic, and the change of the plunger, I use this A LOT, and it fares pretty well. Certainly not as good as a metal one, but it works for my needs at a reasonable price.

My husband and I received this attachment for our mixer as a wedding gift. We use it to grind up venison into hamburger. At first we weren't for sure if it could handle the amount of meet that we were grinding in one session, but we were pleasantly surprised. The grinder kept up the entire time and not once did anything get clogged up. This is a great addition to our mixer and will come in handy often.

We wanted to grind meat at home since many of the times the meat, especially chicken bought in store had a lot of gamey flavor. We already had the mixer and assembling and attaching the grinder was a breeze. We tried grinding our first batch of chicken and it was very easy and the meat ground well. The best part was the cleaning - it was very easy to clean. We are very pleased with the purchase and feel it was worth every penny!!

Works perfectly. I only have one thought of what could make this grinder better. The pusher doesn't fit the feeding tube perfectly, so you get little bits on the back of it that come back up when you retract to add more meat. Other than that, it made my venison into some perfectly ground venison for some delicious chili. Most the pieces come apart for easy cleaning and the set comes with two different settings for finely ground and coarsely ground.

I used this attachment to grind up fresh venison. After deboning the front shoulders of a deer I used the larger grinder blade to run 6 pounds of meat through. I placed the cool meat in the freezer for about 10 mins prior to grinding, this helped a lot. I had to stop and clean the grinder as it got clogged twice, I was going slow with the quantity of meat being added. I placed the smaller grinder blade on and ran the meat through again with no problems.

We bought this to grind meat for sausages mostly and while it does work it's not the greatest, it surely wouldn't compair with a real meat grinder. It only has 2 sizes and both are on the small size and the plastic that it's made for pushing the meat in is very bad, meat gets stuck in it, it should have been all a solid piece so we had to improvise and find something else around the house to use.

For the last couple of years I've been using the old fashioned hand grinder. What a pain! So this year i decided it's time to stop fooling around and invest in a meat grinder for my daughters stand mixer! This product is amazing! What used to take us hours - took us minutes!!! Now i just need to find some other recipes and things to use it for :)

We use this attachment for grinding our meats to make sausages with another special attachment not included. This makes life so much easier. The other attachment to slice veggies is something we both use most often. Make sure that your stand mixer from kitchen aid has enough power to grind the meat. The one we had before wasn’t powerful enough to grind as fast as we like. But no problems with others.

We love our grilled burgers rare but buying store ground beef it's loaded with bacteria and needs to be cooked well done for health reasons. We buy a larger cut of beef and trim off the outer 1/4 inch where all the bacteria is so it won't get ground into the burgers. Now we can cook them rare without the bacteria getting us sick. We even used this grinder for filet minion beef burgers. So great! A great price too!

This is our first stand mixer. We started with the low end because we didn't want to invest too much if it was going to sit unused in a cupboard. Well, the mixer has been used for everything from cakes to icings and pancakes to omelets. The grinder attachment has been used for making burgers and fish patties as well as grinding berries for preserves. This is quickly becoming the kitchen workhorse.

I have used this several times to grind hamburger for the family. I ground three pounds the first time using chuck and short rib blend. Still trying different meats to see which blend makes the perfect burger. For meat you have to run it through twice but as long as the silver skin has been removed it will grind in no time and you know what is actually in your burgers vs buying already ground.

The Food Grinder attachment is a great extension for my KitchenAid stand mixer. I use it to grind prime cuts of sirloin beef for melt in your mouth steak burgers to die for. Attaches to the mixer in 3 seconds, then grinds the meat easily without turning a crank like the old fashion food grinder. The clean up is quick and easy also. I love this kitchen tool. Great for grinding vegetables and nuts also.

I was looking at this plastic grinder attachment and the stainless steel one. The cost difference was considerable. I decided to go with the plastic first. Saving over $100 seemed to be a good decision at the time. It works great! Made stuffed quahogs. Grinded the clams, celery stalks and the onions! It's easy to use and seems very durable.

This is a great little meat grinder I'm a professional chef and can tell you I prefer this one to the metal one because it does not heat up. I recommend chilling your meat before you grind. I only give it a 4 star because it's not the perfect but for $50 bucks you have a nice piece of kitchen equipment.

This attachments fits perfectly, does exactly what you would expect of it. I had a little difficulty figuring out how to take it all apart for cleaning, but worked it out without too much trouble. We started at a lower speed and gradually worked out way up as needed. There is a certain amount of learing curve, but we caught on fairly quickly.

Bought this to use in conjunction with the seed strainer and processor. Very happy, made about 20 gallons of home made tomato sauce this year. Have used it to grind some meat for sausages too. It performed exactly as I expected and was certainly up to the job. I had to run the tomatoes through a couple times to get them dry like my grandmother's used to do.
