Amazing Performance for a Low End Subwoofer

Subs run the gamut in pricing and some pricing ranging from about $100 to over 4 figures. This Klipsch SW 350 is definitely priced on the lower end but don't let that fool you when it comes to performance. It can reach low and rumble and thump down to 31 Hz and it can be musical and bring incredible life to your CDs and MP3s. I replaced a 10 year old Cambridge Soundworks BassCube 12 that bit the dust and popped annoyingly each time it fired up and turned off based on LFE signal from my Onkyo SR705 amp. And I couldn't be happier. It's much more accurate bass allowed me to enjoy my Blu-rays again. PROS: 1) Accurate and tight bass that works well with both a HT and music 2) No annoying popping sound when the sub amp comes on or switches off based on amplifier LFE signal (has Full ON/OFF/Auto On 3 way switch) 3) Nice and small footprint with easy to keep clean cabinet texture 4) Great build quality and nice set of controls and input methods 5) Affordable pricing CONS: 1) Doesn't reach down as low as a larger 10 or 12 inch driver but that's expected 2) Slightly less accurate down low especially with precise music such as jazz 3) Documentation slightly lacking All in all, I am being extremely nitpicky with my list of CONS. This sub is a marvel of engineering for its ability to manage to be both accurate enough for most music and deep and extended enough for your HT setup. For clarification, I have setup my Onkyo amp to cross over at 80Hz for my Mains and Center Channel, which is the THX setting and is generally a recommended point. Anything below is offloaded to the sub via the LFE Pre-Amp output via RCA cable. I also set my LPF to "Bypass" and set the LPF of LFE within the setup menu on my Onkyo to 120Hz, which is also highly recommended by HT enthusiasts. Bass management is essential to making sure your system sounds its best without the lows being "muddy".

I recently recommissioned my tried an true Cerwin-Vega AT-12 floor speakers, but they were lacking the low end detail and impact I remembered. I used to power them with a receiver boasting active equalization covering multiple frequencies. The Harmon-Kardon I'm using now only has two adjustments: bass and treble... something had to be done. I gave this floor sub a listen at the store and was immediately taken back by the sound quality. I've always been partial to sealed enclosures - having used them in several mobile installations with great success - but I had to make an exception this time because what I heard from this ported enclosure was sonically accurate with a very stable response curve given its frequency range. No peaks or valleys of any kind; rather, very satisfying bass and sub bass frequencies. The down-firing woofer was an added benefit not to mention a rear-firing vent which aids in dispersing the sound. Throw in a phase switch, an adjustable crossover for blending and tailoring the sound, a volume control for balancing levels, not to mention an overbuilt amplifier with great power and above-average output, and you have the perfect recipe for both peeling the walls off your house in addition to fielding noise complaints from disgruntled neighbors far and wide! I'm truly enjoying this purchase! I hope you will as well!

I purchased this product after comparing 4 different subs: The Klipsch 450 ($450), the Polk 10" 200W ($125), the Polk 8" 300W ($306), and the item above. I turned each sub to full power @ 3 different crossover levels, lowest range, mid range, and upper range. My goal was to get the best bang for the buck. All the subs were loud and were effective at shaking the shelves at the high range setting. Where the Klipsch subs excelled was the low range, bone vibrating, settings. I quickly eliminated the Polk 200W due to some issues with fade and distortion. The second sub to be eliminated was the Klipsch 450. At a substantial volume, both 300W subs were easily handling the frequency range, therefore I didn't need the 450W. The determining factor between the Polk 8" & the Klipsch 8" was the low range bass - which produced must stronger sound. After bringing it home, it easily filled my 30' X 20' room with wall shaking sound. I adjusted the crossover, limiting the sub to the low range bass, and got exactly what I was looking for. The price was $380 out the door, but reasonable for such a powerful product.

I added this unit to my home theater to complete the 7.1 system. I have owned Klipsch and Klipsch-made products in the past and I have always been completely satisfied with the quality and sound. The sound is amazing. This unit has a built in knob for gain and another for frequency. It makes the whole room (and probably the whole house) shake turned up to just half gain. I've been playing around with the frequency. I was skeptical about getting really low bass from an 8" sub but this unit doesn't disappoint at all. All of the audiophiles that I talked to recommended that I go with Klipsch. It was a bit more expensive than I had planned but it completes my system and I don't have to regret not buying "a little better". This thing is amazing. My previous subwoofer went out and I got used to not having one. Finally, after seeing so many 5 star reviews here, I decided to get it. I cranked it, fired up Halo 4, and was immediately satisfied. Wow!!!! This is not window rattling muffled bass. This subwoofer delivers tight, bone jarring bass. It's like another dimension to sound and games has been added in my living room, one that I cannot believe I managed to get by without. You can set the crossover frequency, change the volume, and change the phase. That's pretty cool. I tried turning the crossover down to 40 hertz and cranking it for fun. It was blowing so much air, it was like a fan was in it. Of course, you can't really hear that low, but you can feel a lot of pressure in your ear. I've never experienced this type of sub bass in my living room. So it works well for shock value if you want to blast your friends who aren't expecting a sonic boom and neighborhood devastation when you demo it. But using it normally is great. Halo 4 is incredible. Movies are great. Basically everything feels new again with this subwoofer in place. I highly recommend it.

When I first started looking at this sub was about 3 years ago when i bought my first 5.1 surround sound a Logitech product which i love and cherrish. I upgraded it using a 7.1 pioneer receiver. By sheer luck I upgraded again and found 2 slightly damaged JBL Professional 8340A Cinema Surround speakers for a good price of free. The whole time (every time) I go into best buy I played with the subs and speakers. It is Jan. 2011, I finally decided that it was time to buy myself this subwoofer. Having planned for this day I had all the cables already ran out and ready to hook up. My antisipation did not disapoint me. When I first had it hooked up I could move the pictures in the kitchen from my room. My parents were not at all pleased with me. So I had to turn it down to quarter volume. This subwoofer has more than enough power to reach your deepest bass notes.Though I was going to by the 10" Klipsch subwoofer after seeing it on the desplay and how big it was i decided to go with this one instead. One of the flaws is the high bass notes dont get reached even if it is set for them but I can up with a solution to that problem. I put a spliter on the back of my receiverand pluged in my old subwoofer for my logitech system and that evened out the sound nicely.

I couldn't be happier with this powered subwoofer. I replaced an expensive 10" unit that just didn't give me the deep clean sound or the punch I was looking for. The moment I plugged in this unit and adjusted the settings just right, I was amazed at the difference. High quality deep and clean sound without the overwhelming noise that came out of the old 10" unit. This 8" Klipsch works equally well for both music and surround sound movies. It sounds great without having to crank up the volume too much. I have been amazed to be able to hear things I couldn't hear before replacing my older unit. I now have all Klipsch speakers and I love the results. These are not the least expensive speakers around, but they provide incredible sound. Better than the sound of some other even higher priced systems, these Klipsch speakers are a great value. I have a very picky ear when it comes to music and surround systems, I now enjoy my all Klipsch system and I use it even more because the sound is so good. Don't waste time or money on other speakers. Save up and get the Klipsch towers, surrounds, center channel and this subwoofer and you are set.

I thought the original Subwoofer that came with my high end home theater system was good, It was but this one is better. This is as near professional quality as you can get without paying the price in fact anymore, unless you have a really large space or just want to shake the walls down, would be overkill. The bass response is clear and authentic. It will give you the deepest rumbles and true music reproduction. You can adjust the cutoff and volume to tailor the effect to your taste. I am truly pleased purchasing this product it fixes a weak point in my system that I did not know was there and it looks better! I bought this after researching for over a month. my old subwoofer was blown out by a power surge - (the only thing not surge protected in my system, it is now) I am actually glad that it happened. You can't go wrong but listen to it first your taste might be different however, I think you will be pleased with what you hear.

I just had purchased over $2300 in surround sound equipment, I did not want to spend the money for the sub. I said ah, i will wait about 2-3 weeks and purchase this sub. Well once i got home hooked up all my equipment, it was great, but it was not the sound i was really hoping for. I went back to Best Buy, the same day, and purchased this monster that i heard in Best Buy. Whoooooaaa !!! does this sub move some serious air. At arond half the volume level is almost too much bass.......I love when people come and watch a movie on my 55", and i throw on my 7.1 surround sound system....I get great satisfaction watching the expressions on my guests faces, when there is a serious explosion.............Ha...Ha...Ha....It scares the pants off of them...and shakes the pictures on my walls....i really need to turn it down a bit...but it's awesome...

Setup is super easy. The footprint it takes is about the area a dining room chair would, not much at all. The impact of the bass is deceptive, as the sound it produces is amazingly powerful and hard hitting. Movies/Music never sounded so good. AWESOME addition to our home theater system! Crossover freq. on receiver has been set to 120hz. Crossover freq. on the sub has been set to bypass. Movie used to setup audio: Disney/Pixar The Incredibles w/ THX Optimizer Movie suggestions to experience the beauty of this sub: The Incredibles, The Fifth Element, The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, Star Trek, Transformers, Wall-E, Lord of the Rings, Heat, Brave, Pearl Harbor and The Matrix. One of the best father's day gift I have ever received!

I had a cheap 10" subwoofer that was meh. I upgraded my front speakers and center speaker (all Klipsch Reference Series) so I decided to upgrade the subwoofer as well. I have a small-ish family room so I didn't need a lot of power, plus I'm not a rock 'n roller and I definitely don't need the room to shake. A lot of subwoofer reviews seem to address that kind of listener. This subwoofer meets my needs. Tight, sharp bass and when you crank it up you can feel it, no problem. The documentation in the box and online is sparse. There is nothing really that tells you what the controls do. What I found out on the web is that your receiver actually sets the crossover frequency, not the knob, if you connect to the LFE jack. I figured everything out but it took a while. Better documentation would have helped. Now that I have it set, I doubt I'll ever have to touch it.

I replaced the stock sub that came with my "theater in a box" setup, I thought that sub was decent, just couldn't quite hit the notes i wanted it to. Then I went looking around for a new one, settled on this one, the specs were so much better than the others for the money. Not until I had it in the house did I realize how powerful this thing is. It literally shakes my whole house (not very big mind you), but it sounds SOO good, all movies will need to be re-watched to see what i was missing before. I cant believe Klipcsh still makes one size bigger than this one! It has a huge range of adjustability and even has an auto off setting that turns it off when not being used for 20 mins which I thought was super cool, so its not using power 24/7. I actually have since purchased a set of in-ear and on-ear headphones from Klipsch and both of those sound amazing as well. Do not hesitate on this bad boy, you wont be disappointed!!

Have been building up the system in my living room, and had recently scored a pair of Klipsch VF-35's for half price from Best Buy. Feeling I could use a bigger base note with the movies I watch, I started looking for a sub. Just happened to check Best Buy online where they list deals at local stores and one of the stores had this sub listed for $125 as an open box or display model. Went right over there and once the salesperson tracked it down I looked it over and only found a little nick on one edge, otherwise it looked fine. Took it home and hooked it up and I couldn't be more pleased with the sound! And to score if for a price less than a lower quality product? Incredible! I have had great luck shopping at Best Buy!

Just bought this today, and though some reviewers say to give it a good break in period, I have to say that this has added a MUCH needed vacancy in my system. I have a Bose Accoustimass 5 system that I bought back in 1997. In my current home, I cannot set the base unit up (non powered sub) as suggested to get a deeper sound. I have added this new sub to the system, and the difference is simply amazing. I can't believe I have gone this long with the missing lower end of the sound spectrum. Rented an action movie for the maiden voyage of my sub, and I was in geek heaven at my new listening experience. Makes the Blu-ray HD TV experience much more enjoyable. I didn't 'feel' the need for the 10" 430W version for my need, as this 8" model packs a good bang for the buck. Not to mention that Best Buy price matched a lower price from an online competitor which saved me about $80.

When I went looking for a new subwoofer to replace my 12' Sony I was looking at getting the Def techpro sub 800 for 399. After listening to it, it just sounded punchy not a good sound at all. Now the supercube sounded awesome, but I wasnt going to pay that kind of money. So as most of my setup is Klipsch I checked out this sub,and the guy had it sitting in the middle of a floor without anything for the sound to bounce off of and I couldn't beleive how good it sounded. I went back a few weeks later just walking around and saw that it was on sale and they refunded that money without asking a question. DO yourself a favor and get this subwooer, you will NOT be dissappointed!!

Got this subwoofer to get more bass I have a 7.2 now and started with 7.1 lol. My first subwoofer is a Infinity PS212 700watt 12" powered subwoofer.Lets just say the Klipsch sw-350 350watt 8" subwoofer kills the infinity by far in bass in music, movies , and quality by far. Klipsh has a much better solid box.It may not look the best but proforms the best by far and thats what counts. and its also $50 cheaper , plus ur getting the big dog name with it.Take my addvice get this before u think about getting a 1000watt subwoofer because its how the sub, box, amp work together. I will be buying another next month and selling my infinity.

Ive owned a set of klipsch 2.1 computer speakers that lasted over 10 years. I purchased this subwoofer expecting the same quality. It had the sound however exactly 20 days after purchasing it the fuse blew. Disappointed that this had happened at only half volume on the woofer I purchased a few new fuses only to find that it blew every one after plugging them in. After reading online about this it seems to be a very common problem. So I have a dead subwoofer and "best buy" won't return cash back after 15 days. Yea I'm very upset. I won't be ever coming back to best buy after this experience especially when you can get a much better subwoofer for the same price online...

I had a set of Infinity mini speakers and the sub died. I decided that it was time to look into good speakers. I wanted the best sound for the money, and I wanted it to be reasonably priced. I was buying a set of the Klipsch Icons and wanted a sub to handle the lows. After listening to the sub, my search was over. It's not just about how loud it can get, or how low... but about how well it does it. When I play music I can have it booming or subtle. My house shakes when things blow up on tv (with the volume up), but it's not constantly overwhelming. Either way it's clean and sounds great.

I purchased this subwoofer to complete my home theatre. It has been great, especially once you really get the settings fine tuned. My room is fairly small and this thing makes some big sound. It's great! Then 1 year and 4 months go buy and it dies. Contacting customer support so far has been impossible. Granted, I'm only on day 2. I can't recommend this product to a friend. It has been the first home theatre electronic to die on me before anything better has even hit the shelves. First Klipsch product I've owned also. Upon checking their forums for help, I've learned that I am not alone. Not even close. Buyer's beware.

    Size & Power Matter

    Posted
    soundprofessor

When it comes to sub-woofers, size and power matter. This eight inch woofer produces great lows and would be perfect for apartments and small family or living rooms. However, if you want true surround sound excitement for larger spaces and or dedicated home theater rooms, the ten inch speaker size with more power output should be the minimum . Preferably, a twelve or even fifteen inch sized woofer for large spaces. For some a front mounted speaker rather than the floor directed one as in the Klipsch subwoofers will deliver the feeling of more punch with every car crash or explosion. The choice is up to the listener’s preference. If you really want your surround sound system to sound like you paid a lot, this sub-woofer will fill the bill.
