    The Real Deal

I have Energy Take 5 Classic HT speakers (Energy is a division of Klipsch) So I know they make high-quality audio products. This is not a new product, it was introduced at CES back in 2011, I have been patiently waiting for it to drop in price from $500 to something in the 3xx range. Wow was I surprised when I saw it on the BB website for 299. I snatched one up on the quick. First impression: The box was heavy...Good sign. Great-sounding audio bits aren't usually light. I got it home and found a pair of white cotton gloves in the box to keep the Piano Black finish from getting all fingerprinted during set-up. Nice touch. Upon taking it out of the box I was pleased by its hefty feel and solid build. The metal and glass stand are solid and good looking, it went together quickly and easily, it feels as if it were carved out of a block of granite it is that solid. Set-up: I read some mixed reviews about ease of set-up some reporting that it is confusing. Simply not so. The iOS app made set-up a breeze. I had it out of the box, set up and streaming from iTunes in 10 minutes. NOTE. If you have a cheap router (one from the cable co. or tel co.) you WILL most likely have trouble with Airplay. Upgrade to a top tier router like an EA 6500 or better yet an Apple Airport Extreme, the $29 dollar units won't cut it. Sound Quality: Outstanding. I am not an audiophile, but I know when something has a quality sound to it and this surely does. The highs soar and your friends will ask where you are hiding the subwoofer. It plays loud and clear. I like volume and bass, this delivers both. The only thing it lacking is stereo separation but given it's small footprint, how could I expect a huge soundstage. The Mids could be a tad cleaner, but now I am picking nits. Skip the B&O Zeppelin, and buy 2 of these and still have beer money left over. #winning JDP

Bought this unit for a fantastic deal for 99$. For this price it was worth checking it out. After reading reviews that were on the fence I was cautious until I got it home and out of the box. First thing, complaints about the cheap remote supplied with it are true, but if you are buying it for Airplay purposes which is the only reason why you would buy this you already have an "I" device that runs it very nice with the app for it. Secondly with the app from Klipsch on the app store this thing is a breeze to hook up. Literally took me less than 3 minutes to connect and setup to home network. Also some are stating issues with connections or drop out's. This means that is time to upgrade your network either router or modem. Im running a N specific asus router and a 6141 motorola modem. Both are running super fast and have had no drops within 200ft. Unit is pack extremely well and the white gloves are a nice touch to not get any premature fingerprints or scratches. The Piano black surface im sure will be a beast to keep clean but does look the best when new. As for the sound, its great but noticed with Airplay it does take something out of the volume. It has to be over halfway for me to really hear it but when you do crank it up, there is no distortion at all. I connected it via aux and it get much louder. Overall the unit is great for the purpose. However money paid for it would detour me away from it if I would have had to pay more than 250$ for it. This is my first item from Klipsch and so far im impressed. Hope this helps the masses.....

I'm no audionut so I won't bother providing details about the sound quality except to say I have no complaints - the music generally sounds good to my admittedly unsophisticated ear in a rather large great room. But two things about this speaker drive me batty: 1. No bluetooth. My mistake for overlooking - but airplay is a huge pain in the you-know-what. Only works on my iphone and not on our android devices, and requires an annoying 3-way connection between my WIFI network, a proprietary Klipsch app, and airplay to work. And then every now and then it stops working and you need to set everything up from scratch again, which is double hard because: 2. control lights are fritzy - per the setup instructions you're supposed to push and hold various buttons until they light up in various configurations except THE BLUE LIGHT IS DEAD so instead of getting a mix of red/blue/purple you get red. sort o like figuring out Morse code with only dots no dashes. very much regret this purchase.

I loved the concept. I found the initial setup, using the Klipsch set up app for my iPhone straightforward. Connected in about 5 minutes, and had great music while preparing dinner. However, the next evening, I had to go through the entire process all over. It was NOT as simple as just hitting "play" and picking the output source from the screen. That was a disappointment but it gets worse. Last night, sigh, went through the whole Kilpsch app, and the screen for choosing the AirPlay versus the iPhone speaker was there, I would choose Klipsch and then hit the play arrowhead. The logo would turn an orange color for a moment, no music, and then turn itself back to the iPhone for the output choice. I went through that sequence perhaps ten times, when I concluded it was not going to magically start to behave. So starting from scratch with the Klipsch app, a second time, did the whole linking process again ,and it worked. So the time between deciding to have music while prepping dinner and actually HAVING music was about 15 minutes. Next time I think I'll just use the provided input cable that came with the speaker and save myself the frustration. What I don't know if it is MY phone, or the speaker, that is recalcitrant in the AirPlay connection. Before I return it as defective, I'll experiment with the iPad and my wife's iPhone .....

I have an iPhone 5 and iPad2. When at home I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts from the iPhone or TV shows from the iPad without having to wear bluetooth headphones. I got 2 of these Klipsch on sale for $99. The sound is really great for my needs. Seems full, and loud enough. Sounds real. However I am not an audiophile. These work with the iDevices via Apple's Airplay, which is not available on all devices so check you model. It is available on both of mine. You double-click the home button and an audio panel displays at the bottom of the screen. Then you swipe your finger right until you scroll all the way to what is at the left end of the icons, which is audio settings that include an airplay icon. That gives you the choice of any airplay speaker to direct the sound to. You cannot send one device's sound to all airplay speakers, which is too bad. Still it's better than wearing headphones everywhere. I am happy with the purchase. Setup was easy through a downloadable iPad app.

Awesome Sound Not Worth the Frequent Cutouts

This thing is gorgeous. I debated using the speaker grille cloth because it would have hidden the speakers themselves, but because it was going in the kitchen, I thought otherwise. Didn't stay long in the kitchen though, or my house. Using Airplay with this speaker is a test of patience to the highest degree. I experienced frequent drop outs in audio and several times where the network didn't even recognize the G-17 in its list of AirPlay options. I could have used an Aux Cable, but this would have defeated the entire purpose. I returned the G-17 within a week of buying it. I've come to expect seamless or near-seamless integration with Apple/Airplay products, and this was anything but. I took my $200 and bought an Airport Express to hook up to a set of Logitech Z-540s, and pocketed the extra $100. Far more worth it and less of a headache. Steer clear of this one unless Klipsch announces a firmware update of any kind.

I purchased this Klipsch airplay speaker to replace an existing Apple Airport Express and Powered speaker setup (using Airplay). Unfortunately the Klipsch does not have a wired ethernet connection so you have to rely on the Wireless connection. When it works it's great but from time to time the connection drops out and doesn't quickly re-connect. Often I have to select different speakers and then re-select the Klipsch to get it to work. Why it doesn't have a wired connection is beyond me. This is a high end piece of kit so why rely on wireless? Also, it doesn't support direct wireless connections (you have to have a home wireless network)

I LOVE this speaker! It sounds great, and my music fills the room (about 10x22 feet) just beautifully at a very reasonable volume. I am no audiophile, but I do like a good sound, and this speaker delivers with no problem. I hear all the ranges, from low to high, and all my different styles of music, from classical symphonies to the Beatles, flow from this speaker like I am having the concert right here in my room! I like this speaker so much that I am even willing to forgive it's one little problem - yes, it does occasionally cut out, losing connection (??) for anywhere from a few seconds to upwards of 20 SECONDS! That is very annoying, I'll admit it! But it doesn't happen often at all, and like ones child, I just love it anyway! It's a lovely speaker and I'd buy another one if I needed another one!!

Sound quality is average at best. The remote is appalling quality - the type you might expect to find in a $30 kid's toy. I bought this speaker and hooked everything up. It worked for a few days and then the speaker would not respond to the remote. I changed the remote battery - no dice. Further the speaker stopped interacting reliably with my iPod. I contacted Klipsch customer service. Their response time was 3 or 4 days at best. Eventually they recommended I return the speaker to the vendor as "it's probably defective". They did not offer any form of warrantee service. AVOID!!

I really like this speaker. It's a bit larger than I expected but it has a nice clean look and fits in unobtrusively on a shelf. The sound quality is really good but it doesn't get as loud as I expected. I am considering buying a couple more to improve the overall experience around the house. My biggest complaint, is the reliability of connection. It will lose connection and I frequently find myself needing to restart the speaker to find it again on my device. I have also found connection losses frequently occur following playing the last track of a playlist or album in itunes which I'm not sure if this is a common issue or isolated to my set-up but is frustrating. If you can get one of these speakers on sale, the sound quality alone makes it an excellent value.

Overall this a great product that works beautifully and seemlessly. My only complaint, and it's a very small one -- is that the glass upon which the speaker is mounted is slightly askew, as if the holes were drilled off center or unevenly. It seems as if they were made to have a L and R speaker so that they don't point straight forward, but at a slight angle. That said, I bought two for two different rooms and they are indeed single speakers (two cannot work together) and both point off center in the same direction. The flaw became obvious to me during assembly but because the mounting bracket is so dark the slight imperfection isn't noticable to anyone else. Even though it messes with my OCD, I'd buy this product again.

I got lucky and caught this on a one day sale for $99. My only problem is that I didn't set it up until the following day when I couldn't go back and buy another for the same price. Really packs a base punch for such a small speaker and has no distortion at max volume during airplay. Direct ipod connection gives the best sound but the airplay sounds better than bluetooth and doesn't cut out at all. Set up was a breeze with the free app. Gives me instant access to my itunes match using my iPhone/ipad/mac/apple tv. Not a great deal at the suggested retail of $499 but a steal for anything $150 and under.

I was really looking forward to this purchase. Great sale price. I hooked it up last night and boxed it up a while later. I have the latest Apple Airport routers so we can't blame the network. The music would just sort of cut out and stutter a bit. So, you do get the Airplay feature which is neat but there's no bluetooth. Bluetooth speakers and soundbars I have never stutter like this. Also, will not work on an N-only network if that's what you have set up. (Or guest network). I have my network set up to accept b,g and n. So that wasn't my issue. Just not the performance connectivity I was expecting. Returning it.

I purchased this item as a gift for my brother for his new apartment. I was shocked to see it in the store knowing that it is normally not carried in store. We found it in an open box format so while it was on sale for $129.99 we save a few extra bucks. We took it back to his apartment and hooked it up to the TV and to the wifi. The wifi was a little more involved then I had expected it to be, but nothing to crazy. We set up airplay and away we went. The sound quality was amazing for such a small device! I fully recommend this device, and will be picking up one when it goes back on sale!

I'd give this product 5 stars if it were still a $400+ product. I paid $149 for 1 unit and $129 during the 4th of July sale for another as a present to my father. He manages to disrupt anything in his house that is technical and even he was able to perform the setup to his wireless network. It, by far, outperforms my bose wave in every category. I am tech savvy to the point I can set up wireless networks, home theater (not plug and play) systems etc.... I had this up and running in less than 10 minutes and have not had any issues.

Klipsch makes some great speakers and it shows with this system. Excellent sound from a relatively small speaker that can be placed anywhere. I don't have any issues playing music or movie soundtracks from any of my devices (iPhone 4, 5, iPad 2, Mac laptop). The current sale prices that BB has had are unbeatable! The only issue I had was the speaker would lose its wifi connection. I found that my router was set to a dhcp lease of four hours. I changed it to eight days and haven't had an issue since.

I picked this up on a deal of the day for $160. I have been looking for an airplay speaker, but didn't want to settle for an off brand. When I saw this on sale, I immediately picked one up.(I should have gotten two) After an easy setup, the speaker was playing music with class. It sounds and looks great. I have read some complaints about the remote, but honestly, if you are using the remote, you're behind the times. The full retail price is outrageous...check other online sites for a better deal.

It is a OK system, just enough to fill average room. Low frequency is great which is Klipsch is known for but the airplay keep skipping and frustrating, which I ended up using direct connections most of the time. I bought this system for a bargain from its original price, otherwise it is going back. My little polkaudio can sometimes sound better depending on what type of music you listen to. I won't pay $500 for this system, if I do, I'll buy one of the polkaudio or Bose system.

I've had two other units from other manufacturers previously and returned both for very poor sound quality. This unit sounds great, and since I got it on sale, it was less than HALF the cost of the others i tried! If the unit was not on sale I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I think all these units are very overpriced but the sale made it worth it. The wall mounting capability is very nice as well. I wish I could buy two more to put then throughout my house.

For about a $150, Klipsch offers solid sound quality with easy of use pairing on your Airplay network. The added remote, and gloves to install the front screen without smudging the finish is a nice touch. Setup is a breeze, and the sound quality for a soundbar size type of device is excellent. The original retail price of $500 is a joke, but $100-$150 on sale is a excellent price for performance point.
