    Klipsch KMC 1 Review

I now own all 3 of Klipsch’s mainstream portable Bluetooth speakers, KMC 3, KMC 1, and GiG. Having spent a lot of time using them I can say for certain Klipsch totally gets it. Sound Quality, Build Quality, Looks, and Ease of use - they’ve hit every single mark. Comparing their products to other popular brands, Including: Logitech, Bose, Motorola, Jabra, Beats, Sony, others as well. I will tell you that, in my opinion, Klipsch trumps them all. Especially given the fact they have not just one, but four Bluetooth speakers in their arsenal, and at various prices. KMC 1 fits right between their ultra-portable – GiG model, and the larger KMC 3. It has a very important APT-X feature (as do all of their speakers) that is a must have for any Bluetooth speaker. I’ve mentioned this before in my other reviews but having apt-x will give you the most detailed sound you can get currently via wireless Bluetooth. Bottom line; don’t buy a Bluetooth speaker without APT-X. Sound Quality – This guy packs a punch for such a small speaker, especially for being in a relatively small package. The speaker houses two full 2.5” drivers and two 3” passive radiators, this combination also appears in the GiG model, and is a pretty nice setup. One thing I have noticed with this speaker, is that it can sound a bit restricted at first, it wasn’t until it had a little time to break in that it really opened up. The restriction comes mostly from bass notes. The speaker is sealed, so they are tight and responsive but I feel they could improve extension by using a ported design, like the KMC 3 (Granted KMC3 has a dedicated subwoofer). Don’t let that deter you from buying the KMC 1, I freaking love it, and it’s a very good sounding speaker. You will get beautiful highs and mids, and while the bass isn’t overwhelming, it very much enhances the overall sound for a speaker this size. It’s actually shocking how loud this thing will go! Build Quality – This thing feels like a million bucks. Weighing 3.6 lbs., incased in a housing that is 4.3" H x 10.2" W x 3.4" D, it feels like a freaking brick – in a really really good way. When you hold it feels just as substantial as it sounds. Out of all three of the speakers, this one to me is the most appealing (more on why later). The housing of the speaker (just like the others) is a nice soft, solid feeling plastic, no creaks, loose buttons or anything of that sort. On the top, the touch controls work well. I’ve not had a single problem with them. I do also appreciate the rubber pad they have on top of these guys. I set my Fiio X3 on it all the time. Features – Just like the GiG, KMC 1 has the extremely useful feature of providing audible indicators when you turn the speaker on, it pairs to your Bluetooth source, and when it’s turned off. One thing I have noticed, which was an amazing surprise is that once connected to my Surface Pro. I can shut down the surface; the speaker will turn off (no surprise). BUT, when I turn the surface back on the speaker turns on automatically, and connects without me even touching it. It can also store up to 8 Bluetooth devices in its memory. It has NFC, you can charge phones/some tablets via usb, and use it as a speaker phone. I’m not sure what else you could ask for really, its feature rich. Accessories - It comes with a brick style wall charger with international adapters and a flat 3.5mm cable to connect devices that lack Bluetooth. Note – I’ve used the same flat 3.5mm that came with Kmc3 in my car for months and it still looks new, no crackling noises or anything. Cons / Improvements - I still think some type of app to pair multiple speakers would be kind of cool, or allow something similar to “heist mode” as written about in my other reviews. Would also like to see this become a ported speaker in the future, even with its smaller 2.5” drivers I think it would help extend bass a tad more. Final Thoughts – Sonically, KMC 3 is the best of the bunch, and remains my favorite. However, when it comes to portable size vs. features (those audible notifications & automatically turning on), rechargeable battery, stunning good looks, and sound quality (given its diminutive size), I just seem to use KMC 1 the most. Again, Klipsch has a few options, so there is certainly something for everyone. But, if you’re considering the KMC 1, I’d totally recommend it.

I have been looking for a good bluetooth speaker for a while now. I have read up on most of the speakers, and listened to many of them. I want a good amount of bass, as well as the ability to play the speaker louder with minimal distortion. Oh and I also want a speaker under $200, and I got the KMC 1 for much less than that, so please read on. I have the old Logitech Wireless Boombox from a few years ago, and i still like to use it, it just has an unfortunate design flaw where when it's not plugged into the adapter, the sound and strength of the bass diminish when it's running off the battery. I knew this buying the Logitech device, but I still wanted it because it still sounds pretty good even when it's unplugged. I have listened to quite a few of these speakers, I have considered the following: * I do like the Bose Soundlink, but I don't feel like dropping $300 for it. * The other option that I considered was the Bose Soundlink Mini, I really like the sound that it produces, it has a good amount of bass, and it was in my price range. * I also really like the Sony SRSX3, the one that goes for $150, but, even though it sounds great, it does distort at higher volumes. * I also considered the small jambox, but it's overpriced, I would not pay over $100 for that, even though retail outlets are still selling it for over $150. There's a well known problem with the small Jambox, where the charging port breaks and the unit is not chargeable anymore. * And the Big Jambox is too expensive, and a friend in the audio industry told me to avoid any jambox products like the plague, saying that they were very unreliable and don't last. * The JBL Charge was okay, just was not that impressed with it, didn't have as much bass as I would like, and also, there's a well known issue with the JBL Charge that it music with certain levels of bass cause distortion on the Charge, even at lower volumes. so the Charge was out of consideration. *I like the UE Boom for $200, just not enough bass, and the Mega boom came out too late and was too much money, and the mega boom still gets ratings that it is lacking bass. The bluetooth speakers that I have returned: Jabra Solemate - it sounds good if you play it at lower volumes, but it does not get loud enough, and it distorts at higher volumes. Jabra was out of their minds to originally ask $200 USD for this device, based on the fact that it does not get loud enough I wouldn't even pay $100 for it. Was really disappointed in the Solemate. Braven BRV X - The one that I almost kept. I really like the BRV X. This speaker has great midrange, and a decent amount of bass, the only issue for me is the treble range is too harsh. if I went into my settings and used the equalizer app on my tablet I could make the music sound better with certain music. I liked that it is very portable and water resistant, but the down side is the battery is not replaceable. Still I think the BRV X is one of the best speakers out there. I chose the Klipsch KMC 1 for a couple reasons: + Great battery life, even though it does shut off too quickly when not in use, but that's probably why it has such great battery life. + The battery is replaceable, which Is an important requirement for me. + Strong bass response. + Treble is also very good. + It does get loud, max volume is great, even though I don't play it at max volume because it does distort. But even at mid volume, it plays louder than most bluetooth speakers, and carries well in a big room. I realize that having a higher max volume does not equate to good sound, but the KMC does sound very good, the midrange is the weak spot for the KMC 1, in my opinion. The things that are not favorable about the KMC 1: - Often times, you have to play it louder for it to sound better. Seems that certain music sounds better when it's played louder. I don't mind this, because I often want the device to fill a room with sound. - The annoying sounds that the KMC makes when you turn it on, or when you connect your device to it, not a fan of the audience cheer, it's kinda cheesy. - it's not really as portable as other devices, it's like a big brick, it's awkward to carry, and I try to avoid touching the front and rear grills as much as possible. And here is the other thing, I purchased the KMC 1 at a competitor of Best Buy for $130, even though I am sure that BB would have priced matched it, I wanted to get the item before it went out of stock at this other local retail establishment. The $130 price, along with how good the KMC 1 sounds made it my choice. Even though I got the Braven BRV X for just a few bucks more at Best Buy, the sound quality of the KMC 1 was much better than the BRV X. Our criteria is very different, when we look for something and this KMC 1 meets my requirements. This device is not for everyone, and truth is, I wish Best Buy and other retail chains would include Klipsch more often in their devices that they sell in their stores. I think Klipsch products would be very competitive. The sad thing is, I think that Best Buy is probably phasing out the KMC1, and won't be selling it for much longer. Biig mistake, unless Klipsch is planning on releasing the next generation of their bluetooth speaker to replace it, I wish Best Buy would pay attention to other brands out there. I have done better many times by going with brands that are not as well known as far as audio equipment. I like Bose, but I don't feel like paying a premium price for a name.

The best feature of the KMC-1 is terrific bass. It's clean, deep and loud without being boomy, even at high volumes. Vocal midrange is clear, but the upper mids sound muddy and weak, like they are trapped inside the plastic case of the unit and struggle to get out. The top end is nice and warm -- no harshness at all. I auditioned the speaker with a selection of rock, pop, singer/songwriter and rap songs, so I'm satisfied that I gave it a good workout. The speaker's bass output varies widely when heard from different angles relative to the speaker. If your ears are above the unit, the bass is at its best, but if it is near ear level and heard from in front of the speaker, the bass loses a *lot* of its low end. I repeated this result from different rooms to make sure that it was a problem with the speaker and not the room acoustics. I travel a lot, so having a speaker that is suitcase-friendly is a must. The KMC-1 is a bit too thick to comfortably fit in my suitcase. No problem with the width and height. Weight isn't really an issue, either -- I don't mind a little extra heft. I returned this item and got an Ultimate Ears Megaboom instead. The portability, features and more open sound of the Megaboom made up for its higher cost (at Best Buy) and slightly less powerful bass. At $268, the KMC-1 is a good value, and I definitely recommend it. It just wasn't the best fit for me, which is why I gave it 3 stars.

I was in the market looking for a portable speaker to have in my dorm but to also have on the go. I looked around for about 2 years because I wanted to make sure I invested my money in something worth while. I also am very picky with sound systems. I want a full bass but to still have a clear sound when turned up all the way. I was recommended the Bose Soundlink III. After a week I returned it because It couldn't fill a room with comfortable sound and there was practically no bass. A Bestbuy employee then recommend the KMC 1. I knew of the brand's great history when it comes to home systems but the portable speakers field seemed to be a newly chartered field for this company, or I thought it was. After spending the same amount on this devise as I did on the Bose Soundlink III, I am very happy to say this product is superior to any other portable speaker in its price range. Full sound, a deep bass and a very long battery life is something only dreamt of but I found it in this product. Of course this system is a little pricy but if you want amazing sound not great but amazing, make sure to check this speaker out. The only weird thing about this product are the controls but it is nothing that can't be figured out after playing around with it for a little bit.

I was looking for a Bluetooth speaker solely for use on the patio, for bonfires, or for tailgating. I've owned a half dozen or so of these devices - all fine for quiet listening with my wife and friends, but I wanted something that would really put out some solid sound. I was shocked when I heard this speaker after listening to my Böhm Soundblock which I thought rocked. The Soundblock sounded like my phone speakers in comparison! There are numerous speakers out there at this price point, so I read literally hundreds of reviews. The only speaker that I actually listened to was the Harmon Kardon Onyx which sounded great, but it was a bit bass heavy for me (and my high frequency hearing loss). I struggled between this and the Soundlink Mini and I must say I'm happy with my choice. The sound is clear, balanced, and powerful. It is down right LOUD when cranked up with no distortion. I've had no problems with connection in fact I can Bluetooth my home stereo from inside so that I can enjoy my vinyl collection outdoors. I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

Im and audio expert and have tuned ears for precision sound. Ive been doing this for 8 years and now have a home and portable audio buisness. Im a professional and from the past bluetooth speakers ive heard. There is no doubt klipsch beats them all including the most digitally altered sound company, bose. This KMC 1 is a great speaker for quality and sound with out the extra audio tweeking of bose or beats uses. I recomend this over any other speaker on the market. To show what ive done, if u have ever been to the movies and heard sound comig from the roof. I helped dolby with the installment of the dolby atmos theater in washington.

We have purchased three or four other blue-tooth enabled speakers. My wife uses them at some dance classes. The room used is large - 100x100 feet. The range of this speaker is by far the best of all her previous purchases. At over $200 it is not cheap but is clearly worth the additional cost when range is needed for large rooms.

I've had this speaker for a while now, ive used it for bluetooth as well as a replacement for a sound bar for my tv. But all the while the volume adjust controls are finicky and sensitive. Its hard to do fine adjustments because they are not actually buttons.
