OUTSTANDING sound - not good long term durabilty

These are the most awesome PC speakers I have ever had UNTIL the DIN receptable on the back of the subwoofer became defective. Seems the cord that goes into it is pretty heavy, creating a bit of a downward pull. After 2 years the connection becomes bad - you wiggle the cord and it connnects (briefly). I contacted the manufacturer about replacement parts - or if they had a trade in or refurb program. The only response I got was that I needed a new amp. Cost $78.12 + shipping. No impressed. For the brand I would have expected a higher life expectancy than just under 2 years. I used to recommend them, but can't any longer.

this was a great sounding system... when the power worked.. had to keep playing with the power cord to get it to "work" and thats only when it wanted to! finally went dead, no power at all.. returned to store.

My old soundsticks' subwoofer blew after 4 years, so I decided an upgrade was in order. I got these speakers and was estatic at the sound and build quality. Then I played a movie on the 3rd day and the right speaker blew. I smelled ozone around the speaker and subwoofer, so something must have shorted out. This is very disappointing for such a promising product.

    Nooooooooooo!!!

I've waited since somewhere around 2002 to get these babies!!! I was so very happy once I got them. As everyone around here already knows, there is supposed to be a power button on the back of the woofer to turn these speakers on & off. I looked 3 times already & don't see any place where an on/off switch is located on my system anywhere. Oh well, no biggie. I figured that I could just unplug the system once I was done playing on my computer each day. Boy, was I wrong. I suppose that I might've caused an electrical surge when I plugged my system in this morning because it made a sound & then there was no sound coming out of them at all. (The little green light on the left speaker doesn't light up, either). I can't believe I did that. I've had these speakers for less than a week & now they're busted. I sure am glad that I bought that extended warranty-- though. I place 1/2 the blame on myself for not using the switch to turn it on / off-- by the way, I've looked in the back of my subwoofer & I swear that there is no switch on it at all-- and-- I place the other 1/2 of the blame on Klipsch-- why did they make it so difficult to power up / power down the system in the first place? I don't plan on telling Best Buy all of the details on how I fried my beloved Klipsch 2.1 system-- they don't need to know (everything) as long as I tell them that they don't power up anymore. Could someone please tell me where the switch is? I've looked several times and it's no where to be found. I'm contemplating on trading these for the Bose Companion® 3 Series II Multimedia Speaker System-- for $100 more. It's a shame what happened-- I only wish that the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Speaker System was much more reliable than what I've seen firsthand. I don't know why-- but it seems that whenever anyone does decide to buy these speakers-- they end up taking a risk on having trouble-- some never have trouble, while others never seem to get these speakers to work properly (or for very long). Because of what happened, I'm truly heart broken that I no longer have as high of an opinion of the value / reliability / practicality of Klipsch "Promedia" speakers-- of any kind...

Wow! What a change a few years can make...

This review comes from someone who has a 10 something year old version of these. The sub gave up the ghost awhile back, maybe a year ago, but the satellites still rocked. Decided I wanted to get some low end thump back and picked up another set last week. Boy what a difference in quality of sound. The sub still brings it but the satellites just flat out suck. No amount of break in is going to alleviate the drop off in sound quality (though I'm going to give them a few more days before dealing with the after Christmas crowd). None. For folks that don't know what these used to bring to the table and find the sound adequate you don't know what you are missing. These puppies used to rock. In Point of fact my old sats make the new ones nothing more than desk top speakers that sound simply "ok". Again, you don't know what you are missing... These used to be speakers that could get you into trouble with the neighbors (and my old ones still have that capacity). Very disappointed at this point. Really didn't want to go with a sub woofer but I "knew" I was going to get something familiar so I went for it. Not the case. Some stuff sounds "okay" but it really doesn't even come close when making a direct comparison. I had to disconnect and reconnect several times to confirm...these sound horrible. Sorry folks, but they do. Maybe some others with previous experience have had better results but mine really just suck. Plain and simple. Not even two shades of white difference, this is black and white. Kind of sad I had to write such a bad review...they used to be such a stellar product I would have fully endorsed and used to tell people about them all the time. I cannot recommend these at all other than "desktop" status. If that is all you are looking for then the price doesn't warrant the purchase.

    Not Worth The Price

I've had my $40 Creative Sound Blaster 2.1 Speaker system for about 10 years and just recently had problems with it. I purchased this and it's been a huge headache. At this price, I was expecting Way better sound quality than my old system. The bass is nicer and louder, but that's it. My Small Creative Speakers seem louder and a lot crispier than the Klipsch Satellite speakers. I plan on returning these and getting a different Creative System (Mine was discontinued) .

This system even with its sub-woofer is not the best value for a moderate cost computer speaker system. The Bose Companion II speaker system has a sweeter more balanced sound for $50 less.

    not worth it!

Either I got a bum pair or all the positive reviewers don't mind bad sound quality. Poorly built, cheap materials, muddy and loose bass, TERRIBLE, screeching highs (like an $8 clock radio--literally) OK midrange. Very disappointed in these. I didn't expect booming, clear bass but tweeters that are harsh and sound worse than a cheap iHome Ipod/IPhone speaker was too much for me! I hate to see people waste good money on bad products and I am really surprised that Klipsch even sells this setup.

bought these speakers and within an hour of getting home and plugging them in and listening to music, they died. no warning no nothing. just, oopps were not going to work anymore. the price of these speakers is by far way way way to much for the quality of sound that you are going to get. if you are one of the lucky ones out there that have a working set, then by all means enjoy them. they are not bad. i just found them to be over priced and rather plane

3 years- little use- amplifier broke

Purchased this set 3 years ago. had very good sound quality. used minimally- about 50 hours grand total of use in 3 years. Amplifier/ woofer died suddenly without apparent cause. because of this, I have to rank this item low because it did not last and meet my expectations for durability. I take good care of mt suff and expect it to last for a long time.

Beware of fragile Preamp Input Receptacle

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this last week and the preamp cord does not plug into the subwoofer. I reviewed Youtube and the manual before assembly. The plug is very fragile and after a few gentle attempts the plug is now ruined. This type of plug assemble is common and basic so I am bummed. I am now far from the US and looks like I will have to ship it back to the US.

    Buyer beware

These speakers were fantastic for about 2 years. Then degraded quickly with humming background noise and then quit working altogether. And no it wasn't the fuse. Pretty much poor quality components that plague much of consumer electronics today. I Would not buy again and recommend you avoid too. Way too pricey for only lasting 24+ months.

    Unexpected noises and sounds

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These speaker setup looks very promising on paper - brand name, good looking speaker, THX certification (better than no certification). Unfortunately, listening at low- normal volumes I had some weird static/cracking sound on the left speaker. I said ok, a fluke, so exchanged it for another. The second unit was better on the left channel, but it had popping/cracking (like popcorn) sounds when the subwoofer was activated. I can't pinpoint what the cause was in both situations - is it amp, crossover, something loose in the speakers, who knows. I spent more time unpacking, setup, and packing, rather than listening to speakers. I hope you others don't have the same problem. After returning the second unit, I went on the floor to see what they had out, and guess what the Promedia 2.1 they had on the floor had static noises on left speaker too! As such, I cannot recommend these

    Static/Whooshing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

For the first month, these speakers were fantastic. Worked great, looked pretty good, and were extremely loud. One day I turned them on and I heard a loud static/whooshing noise from the right speaker. I thought it might be interference from a different device such as my phone, so I moved it away from all other electronics, but it didn't change it at all. After doing a quick Google search, I found that lots of people have this problem with the Promedia Speakers, and it can never happen, or it can happen at any time. One person had this happen to them after a few years. Not acceptable for such expensive speakers. I intend to return them to Best Buy tonight and purchase a different brand, (I'm thinking I might pony up a bit more from a nicer product such as Bose). I would not buy from Klipsch again simply because that is not acceptable that you can charge so much for a "high quality" product, that has a roll of the dice chance of acting up later.

quit working after less than 10 uses

Bought this subwoofer & speakers in January 2014; out of the blue they quit working in October--I've only used these speakers with my laptop between 6-8 times. I'm a grandmother and don't turn them up loud to have busted them or anything. All I got last time I tried using them was a buzzing noise. Unfortunately it's not worth the cost of returning them to Klipsch as they cost me $128. I'll never let the salesperson talk me into buying a Klipsch brand product again. I didn't think they sounded all the great the few times I was able to use the set. This was my first and last Klipsch purchase.

    Superb Sound, Poor Quality

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Considered this system, read many of the reviews, and it appears if they had gone with a "puck" type dial to adjust volume, this would likely be the clear choice for most people. As it stands, the volume knob on the demo unit in the store, and per the kid there for the many that are regularly returned, the speaker tends to crackle with static as the potentiometer or volume knob is turned and many times when you aren't expecting it. Amazon actually has a replacement volume knob module for sale because folks love the sound but hate the reliability. Took it back.
