The Kilpsch RP-8000 floor standing speakers is next entry in the highly praised reference premier line of audiophile home theater speakers, joining the current, and perhaps, replacing the RP-280 model. With an all new tweeter design, the RP-8000 is no doubt poised to target those who do not want to compromise sound quality and demand nothing but the best. I can safely say the RP-8000 exceeds expectations with flying colors. As such, because our perceptions of sound differ, as well as other variables such as equipment settings and room acoustics, I could not wait to test the RP-8000 thoroughly with different playback scenarios! Upon inspection of the RP-8000 speakers, I was pleased to note that they were packaged extremely well. The speaker was completely enclosed with a soft cloth cover, with a second set of plastic on top of that. Additionally, the RP-8000 is supported by three Styrofoam blocks. I would also strongly suggest you have another person help you remove the speaker from the box, as the large box was rather awkward for one person. I found it easiest to lay it down and have someone pull box away from you as you gently pull. Once opened, you are treated to one of the most beautiful piano black appearances you will ever see. To the touch, the speakers are extremely smooth and rounded perfectly on all sides. The gloss is just impeccable and is absolutely gorgeous. In addition, the piano black finish surprisingly did a fabulous job of concealing the fingerprints, though you will notice them up close. The included cloth easily wipes them away. Nonetheless, the speakers are absolutely stunning to see in person; no picture will be able capture the full elegance of the glossy finish. If you are on the fence on which variant to pick (Ebony, Walnut, Piano Black), I would strongly suggest the piano black variant, if of course your budget allows for the extra cost. Physically, the speakers are quite heavy, coming in at roughly 60 pounds, but were actually pretty easy to maneuver. Additionally, at 43 inches, depending the size of your TV and your entertainment furniture, they might come close to being flush with the top of the TV. On the back of the speakers, the RP-8000 are Bi-Amp ready with two pairs of speaker terminals (one set each for low and high frequency respectively). Lastly, the protective grill magnetically sticks to the front of the speaker. Overall, the RP-8000 are sure to impress and were fairly easy to setup! For testing purposes, I used a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX303 receiver to power the speakers, tied together using Audioquest 14 AWG X2 speaker wire that was manually cut from a 100ft spool. The VSX-LX303 receiver was also plugged up to the wall using an Audioquest NRG-Y3 AC cable. Additionally, I did not Bi-Amp the speakers and only used one set of terminals (bottom set). For playback of movies and music, I used my Sony Ultra Bluray UBP-X800 player. For my first test, I listened thoroughly to my collection of lossless music in a 2.0 channel configuration, as I wanted to specifically focus solely on the audio capabilities of the RP-8000. The LX303 receiver was set to Pure Direct mode, which disabled any additional processing so that the source passes unaltered to the speakers. Connectively, I next wanted to shift my attention to movie playback, with first testing the RP-8000 speakers by themselves (2.0) and then subsequently move to a standard home theater test using a standard 5.1 setup. During music playback, the first genre I ran through was some of my favorite classical pieces. I played through a high resolution copy Schumann's String Quartet (192 KHz/24 Bit/2 Channel PCM) that was encoded on a Bluray audio disc. The first thing I noticed was the instrument separation of the quartet was extremely prevalent, with high and middles frequencies extremely clear and pronounced. There was an intimate warmness to the sound that just grabs you! An almost surreal moment was that I could easily isolate each performer during the performance, yet still be able to experience the whole encompassing soundstage. It is definitely one of those moments where you just smile, especially when you have the lack of words to describe what you are hearing. In addition, you can sometimes hear other nuisances such as the inadvertent sound of the string when pressed against the wooden fingerboard or inhales of the performers. I was actually able to keep the receiver at roughly -50db in volume (LX-303 decreases and increases in -0.5 dB increments) and I did not feel the need to turn it up! For rock and metal genres, the RP-8000 actually did an amazing job! The sound quite vibrant. In addition, I did not notice any muddiness or hollowness that I sometimes hear when rock music is crushed during the mastering process. Symbols and drums were clear and punctual as well as the guitars. The middle and higher frequencies seemingly breathed as much as it could, despite the over use of compression that plagues modern rock music. It was refreshing, nonetheless, that the RP-8000 handled rock and metal as well as it did. For more bass orientated tracks, such as Rap and Trance music, the RP-8000 did an amazing job with the lower frequencies. It was punchy and clear, and yet it did not struggle to reproduce a low sound. In addition, where rumbling would occur had a subwoofer been present, the RP-8000 did an exceptional job of clear distinguishing the drops in low frequencies. With 32 Hz on the low end of its frequency response, this was pretty amazing and even more so given a two channel configuration! Granted, keep in mind the RP-8000 can only do so much until you add a subwoofer to handoff what it cannot reproduce. On more Hip-Hop instrumental tracks, and especially those with some Jazz influence, the lows, middles, and highs were all distinctly heard similar to my classical music. Switching to World genres and movie soundtracks, again the RP-8000 demonstrated extremely clear and punctual highs and middles. The lower frequencies were handled quite well once again. Over the course of several listening sessions that lasted several hours, spread out over multiple days, the RP-8000 continued to dazzle with amazing sound. The warmth and clarity was a real treat to hear! With exceptional music playback performance, I next want to focus my attention to movie playback. As with music, I set the receiver to Pure Direct mode. During my 2.0 channel test, the RP-8000 was able to maintain extremely clear dialogue, while simultaneously providing nice depth to action sequences. In the opening battle sequence of Gladiator (DTS-MA 48 KHz/24 Bit/5.1 source), I could easily hear battle dialogue as well as the background soundtrack. The soundstage was full and breathed new life into the movie; keeping the volume at a constant -40.0 dB, it was loud enough to completely fill downstairs. Furthermore, subtle sounds in the background, such as weapon clings and horse cries, were heard as well. In dialogue heavy scenes, the RP-8000 did an exceptional job with maintaining crystal clear dialogue, almost as if I had a center channel installed. Moving on, I switched to The Patriot to see how the RP-8000 would handle an uncompressed PCM track (48 KHz/16 Bit/5.1 source). It sure did not disappoint! I noted similar results as I had in Gladiator during battle sequences; drums of each army as they are lining in formation were crisp and sharp as well as the musket fire. The soundtrack, once again, was clear and vibrant. Switching to a full 5.1 setup, for both movies, the RP-8000 switched to more of an accompanying role with the dialog now pushed to the center speaker. The soundtracks of both movies still maintain excellent clarity. During the battle scenes, the center channel and the RP-8000 simultaneously worked back and forth off of each other fairly well. Once someone would finish talking, the RP-8000, while still playing the soundtrack in the background, would pick up the complimentary sound in the action scene. As soon as you heard musket fire on the RP-8000, it was followed immediately by rumbling of the handed off lows of the subwoofer. Additionally, debris and off side battles between movie extras were heard in the two surround speakers. The sound completely bewildered me, completely engulfing the room as well as downstairs. In Gladiator, the RP-8000 once again dazzled with sharp high frequencies of sword blows and ambient battle sounds. Suffice to say, with the RP-8000, all you can do is grin with excitement. Overall, I think most will be completely blown away by the sound. In conclusion, the RP-8000 is an exceptional piece for any audiophile's home theater system or as an upgrade to existing system. Physically, the built quality was top notch and the quality is just staggering. Furthermore, the reflective glossy black piano finish absolutely blew me away. Detail is exquisite with smooth rounded corners to provide a seamless and detailed transition on either side of the speaker. Performance wise, the RP-8000 handled my vast music collection with ease and I was able to enjoy a wide variety of genres. For me personally, the soundstage and overall clarity on the RP-8000 is best that I have personally heard from a speaker. Additionally, movies performed similarly, providing rich detail and an incredible soundstage that you have to hear to believe. In the end, for those who demand an exceptional audio experience, the RP-8000 might be the solution, provided of course that price is not of concern. With that said, the RP-8000 comes highly recommended.

Pros Piano black gives elegant appearance Copper driver and ring create a sophisticated look Bi-Wire/Bi-Amp capable for improved sound Grill cover holds on with magnets instead of pegs Retaining magnets have felt to protect finish Wide range from 32Hz to 25kHz MDF enclosure snubs any hint of vibration or distortion High sensitivity doesn’t require much power Warm, slightly bright tone without harshness Integrated metal feet provide stable footing Integrated metal feet have rubber base to prevent vibrations Cleaning cloth included Cons Finish shows scratches, dust, and fingerprints easily Klipsch has long been known as a company that produces great sound for good price while keeping an emphasis on appearance, so you are proud to have these in your room. The Klipsch RP-8000F is the latest iteration of the Reference Series which has already proven in previous reviews to be a great line of speakers. Regardless of whether you want front stereo sound or need to complete a surround sound setup the RP-8000F can fit the bill. Previous generations included the copper driver which create a look of sophistication when the grill is removed but the latest generation includes an extra thin copper accent line. It might not sound like much, but it really improves the overall appearance. More notable is the change from the old black vinyl appearance to the new Piano Black finish. In pictures you might think it cheapens the appearance, but you really must see them in person to appreciate. The best way to think of the look is to imagine when you have seen a gloss black grand piano or any other musical instrument with that deep, dark, highly polished finish. In person you see a quality finish that adds a bit of elegance to your setup. Just keep in mind there is one downside to having that very glossy finish. Scratches, dust, or fingerprints show up easily but with proper care the look can make the difference between your room looking like it’s filled with plastic towers or high-quality enthusiast equipment. For enthusiasts they can become a piece of furniture you will love to look at. If for some reason you need to cover up the drivers, you can always opt to leave on the included grills which hold on with magnets. With magnets there is no need to worry about damaging fragile pegs and when removed it leaves a completely clean finish on the front of the speaker. With the integrated, sleek metal feet with rubberized base, the towers are isolated from the ground and prevent unwanted sounds and vibration. Most will be completely content with a single wire setup, but for those who must have the best you can opt to bi-wire or even bi-amp. By default, both pairs come connected by a heavy bus bar which is easily removed. The binding posts accept up to 12-gauge bare wire or banana plugs. Appearance means nothing if it isn’t backed up with great sound. Audiophiles might have their favorites but it’s hard to deny that Klipsch speakers create great sound. The tone is distinctly Klipsch being slightly bright without being unpleasant. With a good quality recording you can hear subtle sounds like the artist taking in a deep breath during a lull in the music or the subtle sounds of a pick running against a guitar string. You may find some of your favorite songs actually have more detail than you believed. You can appreciate a Soprano with perfect pitch without the pain and harshness produced by some speakers. Low notes of a Bass are faithfully produced with no hint of distortion. Combine them with a good quality recording and feel as if you are watching a live performance. When used as part of a home theater setup you can hear the deeper sounds from the action while allowing the subwoofer to handle the hard hitting bass. When used as the front left and right channels of a surround sound system, the full range allows better positional audio for a more immersive movie watching experience. Dialog is equally enhanced allowing to understand what is being said without the need to turn the volume up unnecessarily. If you are looking for an upgrade to your music and movie experience, the Klipsch RP-8000F warrants serious consideration.

Premium speakers - worth every penny

Speakers are a matter of personal preference I find - you either find speakers that you like and make the room fit them in , or you buy the speakers that fit your room. These Klipsch floor-standing front speakers, justify you building a new house if necessary. The bass is booming , the mids and the highs pull out every nuance of the audio - whether its one of my go-to movies (Star Trek Beyond) and wide range of audio (from electronic, though Jazz and classical) the speakers makes them all sounds like they've been upscaled to a new resolution. (I even considered whether I need a sub in a small setup - the bass is really that good). Make no mistake these speakers look pricey - but you get every penny's worth out of them. You can hear phrases and music that you didnt know where there - the audio experience is second to none. I ran these using a single pair of quality audio cables, but they include dual-posts for bi-amping the speaker if you need that extra refinement (yes, these go to '11'!!) My only criticism of these 800F speakers, is nothing to do with the audio quality. The piano black is as shiny as it sounds (check the photos). I was initially concerned that they might reflect the image from the screen but if you're head on its not an issue (so think about the placement relative to where your crew sits). The biggest issue I think is you're going to be constantly dusting and wiping the glossy surface. Let alone panicing that they will pick up any microscratches (because they WILL show up!) Dont look any further for the best all-round , floor standing front speakers you can find. These are precision engineered audio machines, and will surpass all expectations (and I have high expectations). Just do your stress-levels a favour and buy the regular , non-piano black or walnut finish version. I received these speakers at no charge for evaluation, but all opinions expressed on here are my own, based on real use in my personal environment and setup.

These towers are beautiful. The piano black finish is flawless and perfectly complimented by the copper colored drivers. The copper accent on the trim ring around the woofers and horn is understated and very attractive. Most importantly, they sound as good as they look! The horn loaded titanium tweeters reproduce every subtle sound from the source recording with a light, airy, crisp feel that is delightful. From the sounds of cymbals as they slowly fade into the background to the sliding of fingers on guitar strings, these speakers don’t miss a detail. Even the static on old analog tape of Ella Fitzgerald recordings is there in the background. The dual eight inch woofers produce tight controlled bass when the recording calls for it (I.e. Yes - Owner of a lonely heart), deep booming bass when needed (Nelly - Oh Nelly), and accurate low bass notes of the double bass in classical recordings. Even though these are two-way speakers, the midrange is not neglected, but sounds open and free. Acoustic guitars sound like they are in the room. Vocals are accurate and even the breathy overtones on some tracks are there. Tom toms sound punchy and tight, but with appropriate decay. The bottom line: one could probably pay much, much more for a little better sound, but in this price range, these speakers will be difficult to beat. Of course, you should listen for yourself, because the Klipsch are sometimes described as “bright” or “forward”, and the sound may not be what you like. I much prefer the detailed, accurate sound of these speakers to the more muted, mellow sound of others. I think you will as well.

About as Good as it Gets

I have a pair of these tower speakers as my front speakers. They pair nicely with the rest of my 5.1 surround sound setup and provide excellent sound when watching movies or listening to music. Initial setup is as easy as it gets. Plug your positive and negative audio wires into the back and you're done. You also have the option to bi-amp / bi-wire them if you'd like. As a side note, these speakers are actually kind of heavy (~60lbs) and awkward to move around, especially on carpet. The finish on them also brings a more professional feeling to the environment. For initial testing, I used them by themselves and played music through them. As a standalone set, they provide a nice dynamic range and you don't even need a subwoofer to make your music shine. They can get plenty loud without compromising music quality. I was able to turn them up as loud as I could handle and there was very little to no distortion coming out of these speakers. I'm honestly amazed at how well they sound as well as how loud they can get. A 2.1 setup with these can really bring your movies to life. Afterwords, I plugged them back in to my existing setup to use along side the other speakers as intended. What a difference these made to my movie watching experience. All the highs and lows were clearly played through these speakers and I might even say could beat my local movie theater experience. I have absolutely no regrets after being able to personally experience and enjoy these speakers in my own home. If you're looking for a set of speakers that not only sound good but also look amazing, then these are for you. Whether you're looking to have a standalone set, or upgrading your surround sound setup, these Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers will not disappoint.

If I could do it again, I would have bought the ebony model and saved $100 per speaker. That's about the only non positive thing about these speakers that I can say. Disclaimer, I am not an audiophile. These replaced 20yr old 30watt $400 home theater system. The sound coming from these speakers are as big as the speakers themselves. One might argue it unnecessary for a sub or center speakers, as these speakers can fill that bill, maybe for some. After trying it out with my sub, I was comforted to learn that these speakers did not drown out even the entry level Klipsch 12" subwoofers at all (they compliment each other, at least at an OK level with my untrained ears). They have some bump but they don't effortlessly shake the room as the Klipsch sub. After getting a demo of these speakers with the Klipsch centers (I don't remember which model, just they were in the Magnolia room), I was ok in believing these speakers compliment each other; the centers only added more clarity than what these speakers already had. I have the RP-504c on order (center speakers), already have the R-120SW subwoofer, and obviously these RP-8000Fs, all powered by the Denon X1500H receiver. In the near future I will complete it as a 5.1 system with some rears. PS, Take advantage if BBs Pricematch Guarantee.

First things first, these speakers are monsters! They are very large and very heavy. Only get these if you have the room for them and you want to dedicate a large footprint. If you do, then you will not be disappointed. They are simply gorgeous speakers, piano black with a magnetic speaker grill. The legs stick out on the bottom and they just shine bright. They are so glossy that they are very easy to dust as well. Even my wife thinks they are good looking speakers and she hates big bulky speakers. Now the sound...WoW! These speakers offer full range sound and they deliver just that. When hooked up to a proper receiver with good power output, these things will rock the house. I absolutely love listening to them. I now have them as part of a surround sound setup as the front left and right speakers. I never really noticed the sound from the L and R before, they were usually just kind of there. But these make you notice them and you can hear the detailed sound that emits from them when watching movies. You have to hear them to appreciate them. I cannot recommend these towers enough, you simply cannot go wrong.

I have been very impressed by my piano finish RP-8000F speakers. I just wasn't getting the sound out of the LS50s that I purchased recently. To be honest I didn't get my subs up and running until I received the RP-8000s so the KEFS would have been more pleasing with subs. I come from a background of very high end audio. Thiel CS7s and monoblocs which I still have in storage. I'm powering the RP-8000s with a Marantz SR8012 and they sound EXCELLENT. They have actually blown me away. Not at all harsh. What I like most about them is that I can play at low volumes and hear everything. Also old CD recordings somehow sound alive again and not fatiguing to listen to. Very Happy!!! I added two SVS SB3000 subs and its absolutely amazing. Crossed the RP-8000 at 60.

These speakers are amazing and have a more richer sound than the Polk RTiA7's that I replaced. The sound is crisp as well as robust. They have been put through many sound sources including rock music, general TV stations, sports programming, and 4K movie soundtracks and all sound full and clean. I would highly recommend them and I use a Pioneer Elite receiver to pump the sound. I also purchased the Klipsch Atmos RP-500SA that blend the sound with a pristine partnering fusion. Oh, and did I mention they look very cool in black and the copper colored speakers. As per the other reviews these speakers are 5 star.

I'm using these as the left and right in a Dolby Atmos 7.1 setup, and they're so powerful with the low-end that I almost don't need a subwoofer in my setup! I could see these working well simply as the left and right in a "stereo" setup because the quality and volume are both equally good (no distortion at very high levels). I used a live concert video and turned the sound up (for testing purposes, of course) and it felt like being there.
