Top notch sound from tiny speakers!

The 1 weak spot, as posted by other reviewers is the pedestal base for wall mounting. I consider this a minor flaw in design. These speakers, small as they are, have a hefty mass for their size. The friction ball mount will be inadequate to keep the speakers pointed where you ant over time. I imagine you can go aftermarket and do better. Many satellite systems have no included mounting system at all. For bookshelf mounting, as I have done, they work just fine. As for sound quality-!WOW!- I'm in a 16x20 room with plush furniture, carpet, drapes. These absorb sound very well, not an acoustically "live room", they are driven by a Yamaha 661 receiver, and have been hooked to a Yamaha 665 receiver. Similar amp sections in both receivers. The 665 now drives Klipsch SLX quintet speakers. That review coming soon on the SLX. I've had these speakers over a year with the 661, I travel a lot, have been to a wide variety of audio stores, and Magnolia/Best Buy stores. I've listened to LOTS of setups running into $5k+ just for speakers. Can you put these speakers in the same ballpark as a $5k setup? Debatable. When listening to what I call, "organic music". Non-electric instruments and vocals those high $ speakers can convince you that you're right there in the recording studio at the live performance. Provided you're sitting in the "sweet spot", which in some cases are surprisingly narrow and require careful planning in speaker placement. Outside that "sweetspot", I'm not that impressed. And that's where the Klipsch absolutely shine. The way they spread the music through the room is unparalleled, extremely forgiving in speaker placement, you really don't even to be perfectly symmetrical in speaker setup if your room decor won't allow for it. When having run the Yamaha calibration sequence, which (even calculates speaker distances from your primary listening spot- it gave me a warning that my right rear was only 3' from my listening spot!-which I over-rode). When coupled with a good sub, the Klipsch sound phenomonally good all over the room. May not convince you that you're there in the studio with acoustic instruments, but pretty darn close. The $5k speakers can't do that either, unless you're in that sweet spot. But dang they look good, and very elegant! So, lets do the math. Up to $1000 for these speakers with a Klipsch Sub, or $5000 for the high end (and absolutely well crafted gorgeous and elegant looking pieces of speaker furniture). If you're going for the best bang for your buck, and don't mind dark gray plastic as opposed to rich cherry wood finishes in gorgeous cabinets, then the Klipsch is fo you!

    Good speakers, bad mount design

The speakers sound great, but there's a design flaw from the mount. This occurs if you try to mount the speakers to a wall. The speakers rely on a ball socket friction mount to hold them in place. The problem is, the ball joint won't hold the weight of the speaker. One of my speakers would not hold itself up. You would move it into position, and it would slowly fall until it was facing the floor. I contacted Klipsch customer service and I got this response: I have heard of this issue a few times. There are a couple of things you can do to alleviate this problem. One option would be to "score" the ball mount using a fine sand paper. That would help to create friction inside the mount for a solid hold. The other option would be to place a small rubber “foot” on the inside of the ball mount. Again that would increase the friction and tension within the mount. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and have a great week! What has me worried is the fact that they're recommending modifications to a brand new item just to get it to work as designed. Also, this does not address the longevity of the design, as the rubber foot inside the joint will harden over time, which may not hold up. I'm considering returning the speaker set for something a little higher quality. It's a shame, really. The speakers do sound nice, but my overall experience has been ruined by the poorly designed mount. And before anyone wants to make reference to someone not knowing how to work the mount, I will tell you that I'm a mechanical engineer. I'm more than capable of modifying the speakers to stay in place; it's just the fact that modifications are required on a brand new item in order to get them to work as originally designed is what bothers me. Also, if you're not going to wall mount the speakers, you'll be just fine with setting them on a shelf. The mount does have a stop pin that the speaker can rest on. The problem only arises when the speaker is wall mounted and not resting on the stop pin relying only on friction between the ball and a rubber pad to keep the speaker from facing the floor.

    Fantastic speakers, better than Bose?

For starters, I am so impressed with these speakers, I felt compelled to write a review. I bought these speakers before last Christmas on sale (which apparently is the best time, because I paid about half of what the normal price is). I also purchased a Harmon/Kardon AVR 246 receiver to power the speakers, which is also fantastic. After setting these speakers up, I was instantly amazed with the sound they produce. I grew up with Bose, and like many I assumed they were they best speakers available, I mean they have to be for $1000+ right? After hearing these I think a lot of that is for that little Bose emblem on the front. These speakers just seem to produce a more powerful sound than Bose. For what these cost, they are amazing, I have heard sounds in my music I previously hadnt heard. Also, in movies you can hear everything, like the background noise (i.e. the sound of people at other tables chattering and silverware clanking in a restaurant scene). I will say that the 10" or 12" powered subwoofer is a must. I purchased the 10" along with the speakers because I really wanted bass. It is a night and day difference, the sub is incredible and is a perfect match for the speakers. With music or movies, it just makes the entire experience better. These speakers are fantastic, especially if you want great sound and arent ready to spend thousands on your home audio setup.

    outstanding product

I bought this product after reading several reviews and researching about the product and talking to people who owned it. I was and still not disapointed. These speakers still blow me away every time i am watching regular tv, movies, dvd's, music dvd's, and sirius sat radio on dish. I can't say enough about the quintet III to do it justice as an outstanding theater system. I have it connected to the yamaha rx-v361 component which is really a beginners component, also a great product. Some of the reviews i read about the quintet III were negative like poor sound product defects on grille covers or speakers falling of wall where mounted. All i can say is these people either did not know what they were doing as far as mounting or just had bad luck. I have all four speakers mounted on my walls in my man cave with the exception of the center speaker. Of course all my wires run through my walls and ceiling you can't see them. Yes i'm using MONSTER CABLE XP. The isntallation was done by myself and i'm no pro. Though the work looks professional. I also have the KLIPSCH SYNERGY 10" SUB it also sounds great. '

    Big sound, little speakers!

After much deliberation on whether to toss this much money into a set of speakers, I finally broke down and talked myself into going all out on a set. I purchased these speakers along with the Sub-10 woofer and a couple of Icon floor speakers. All I have to say is that I have never heard such crisp sound out of a home theatre system. + Not only do these speakers deliver clean, resiliant sound, but they seem to literally improve the quality of highs and lows in the movies I watch and games I play. It's unbelievable the amount of difference that high end sound quality can make. + These speakers deliver not only great sound, but the look and design is very pleasing on the eyes. Each of the two front speakers and two rear satellite speakers come equiped with extremely stable stands that are connected on a pivot to allow for simple situation and placement. + Overall, I would certainly recommend these little speakers. Best ones I have owned to this day, and from what I have seen so far, the best ones that I will ever need to own!

    GREAT SOUND

I purchased the set for $349 from BB with the 10inch sub(another $299). These sound great with my Denon AVR-689. I have had these installed for about 6 months now. They are a little bulky as some have mentioned however the mounts are sturdy and hold well. The ball joint can become loose, however my set came with a allen wrench to tighten the joint once positioned and I have nad no issues with the speakers loosing alignment since installation. I would have liked to have hidden the wiring better through the mount/base but it is manageable. I used Monster XP wire for all but 2 speakers. I could not justify another $129 for 30 ft of cable that was required. I found a heavy guage speaker wire at the hardware store that worked as well it seems. For the best sound quality, you really need the sub to go with these. The 10 inch will be plenty for most.

    Very Good for Surround Speakers

It took me a while to figure out how best to arrange my system. I eventually ended up doing a 7.1 system, using these speakers as my 4 surrounds and the center. I had two 10 year old pioneer 12" 3-way floor standing speakers that I used for my fronts. As these just didn't do the job reproducing the heart pounding sound of engines racing and gunfire and explosions. However, I do have the klipsch 12" sub which is awesome, but you still need some decent size front speakers in my opinion. I have a yamaha 90x7 with HDMI and HD player and all together this system is awesome when done as part of a 7.1 system. I will probably upgrade the center with a bigger klipsch and upgrade the floorstanding fronts with klipsch later on. But for now.....it sounds awesome for surround speakers.

    Small but Good

I downsized from 2 huge Klipsch bass reflex speakers. It was purely to make room. I am impressed with the sound from such a small speaker, it is very good for the size. I agree that they are not the best for music...for my ear anyway, but for a great home theater experience, and freeing up floor space, these are superb. I paired it with the 12" Klipsch sub boom boom (10" would prabably do). You have to purchase a sub separately with these in case you didn't know. I only wish Klipsch would have sold this with a sub as I have to adjust the sub gain depending on what we are listening to -ie, movie, games, music. It is nice that the speaker is attached to a wall mountable stand. If looking for a clean look home theater - get these! If you want for music, and have room, I suggest a traditional floor-standing speaker system.

I bought these a few days ago while they were on sale at $299.99. I'm so glad I did. I immediately went home and installed these speakers and a couple of hours later, I was listening to a remarkable sounding theater system. The size is great, although deceiving being quite heavy, and hide away wonderfully in the upper corners of the room. I'm using an old Sony receiver that's about 10-12 years old (next to be upgraded) and it is still exceptional. I can't say enough with these speakers. This is the first set of Klipsch speakers I've ever bought, and now I'll be a loyal custom for the future! There isn't a lot of lows/bass but I didn't expect it either considering the size of the speakers. I ended up building my own from an old Sony 15" sub that I currently own.

Quintet III solid for small footfprint

    longhorn57

For the price, this 5 speaker set is very nice, very solid sound. Great sound comes out of very small speakers. It was very important for my wife that the speakers be as small as possible. She was more hung up on the appearance than the sound - she hates clutter. I cared more about the sound and not concerned about the speaker size. We compromised on the Quintet III from Klipsch. I am very happy with the choice, and the price is really nice as well. There are more expensive speaker systems that I have been told are not as nice as these. I paired up the Quintet III's with an Onkyo 5.1 receiver and Onklo subwoofer I already had. I have a Blu-ray and 1080p TV. The digital audio feeds through the receiver, all sounds and looks great! I highly recommend the Klipsch Quintet III's.

I had to replace my old Bose system after here this system at the local Best Buy. This system was actually cheaper then my old Bose system too. I had my wires previously installed so this helps with price due to you don't have to purchase speaker wire. I did buy the Monster banana connecters due to the Klipsch has this option which is nice and easy to install. This system uses the base plate as a wall mount or a table mount so this will save you money due to the Bose you have to purchase the wall mounts separately. You will have to purchase the plastic anchors and screws to mount them to the wall. Overall I'm very happy with this oh and remember to purchase the 10' Klipsch subwoofer to complete your system.

    Great for movies...

I am only docking these a star because they sound a bit harsh with music (either CD or digital cable music channels). For TV and movies these are probably the best buy for the money and if you are limited on space (in my case the width of the center speaker) these are great. I ended up putting my older Klipsch bookshelf speakers with a 5.25" midrange and horn tweeter in as L and R front and now I have a 7.1 system. Matching them with the 10" Klipsch (or comparable) sub is recommended and will be plenty, don't overkill it with the 12". I am also using a Harman Kardon 247 receiver and it complements these speakers well. Total system cost was less than $1200 which is far less than anything by Bose.

    Great small system

    tyowen

These speakers are great for home theater. The sound is dynamic and clean, and can fill a small to medium sized room quite easily. I have mine mated with a Klipsch Sub-10 and they sound great together! My only complaint is that they do tend to sound a bit thin. This is to be expected as with such small drivers you only get so much midbass from the satellites. So it's not so much a complaint as it is a compromise that you have to make when using smaller speakers. It is for this reason that these are not my favorite speakers to listen to music with. The sound is not quite as full as I'd like for music. Still, I would highly recommend these speakers for anyone looking for a small speaker home theater!

It's not the size of the enclosure...

If you are looking for BIG sound in a small package, then this is your speaker system. These speakers are very efficient, so your receiver doesn't have to work hard to pump out the sound. Also the horn technology that Klipsch is known for is not overlooked in these speakers- they give a nice, directed "sweet spot" to enhance the sound in your listening area, instead of having omnidirectional sound bouncing around everywhere in your room. For small to medium sized rooms (up to 350-400 sq ft), pair these with the Klipsch 10" subwoofer, and for larger rooms, or for those of us who really want to feel the boom, match them with the Klipsch 12" subwoofer. You won't be disappointed.

    Quintet III

I bought this at an amazing price. What's nice is that even at a low volume you can hear a full range of sound. High end sound for a low end price. I'm sure if you have a very large living room you can stick all four speakers in the rear for 7.1 and buy a pair of large floor Klipsch speakers for the Front Right and Left. Perhaps a larger center channel if you're more than 10-15 feet from your screen. For my apartment living room these are perfect though. As I run on I should also mention that the built wall mounts are awesome! You can tilt the rear speakers inward if your couch is against the wall.

Its overall a great speaker system. Crisp and clear sounds. The speaker housing feels very tough and solid. Weighs a little heavy and a little on the big side for satellite speakers...but the quality is exceptional. There's only one bad thing about them that I've noticed. The ball joint lock is not tight enough so the speakers tend to slowly drop after mounted. I have to figure out a way to keep them still and I haven't figured that out yet. My system: Paired these up with the Klipsch sub-12 and powered by yamaha model 663. I'm loving my HTS right now.

    Sounds as good as Bose

    Posted
    cj111

I have read other reviews and agree on the sound quality. I went in to buy Bose, but the salesman showed me these speakers and they were impressive.  As far as price, from what I have read it looks like I paid about $200 more than most people, but still less expensive then Bose. The wall mount system was good to the wall, but the ball socket setup was faulty, poorly designed and/or a defect in the manufacturing. None of my 4 speakers would stay in place, and the so-called manual was useless. However, this I will deal with because the sound is worth it. They also come with a good warranty.

Great Speaker System For Smaller Rooms!

    Posted
    siouxcityguy33

I bought these speakers along with the Klipsch Sub-10 for a home theater system and hooked them up to the H/K AVR-146 and I am very satisfied with my purchase. These speakers put out some great surround sound. Klipsch has always been known for their great speaker products and I know that they make really high end systems but for the price and if you don't want a home theater system with huge speakers taking up your entire room take a look at this system. They are worth the $500 investment. Don't skimp on Speaker Wire either.......go with the Monster cables.......well worth the money!!

I bought this system in Nov. '07 after about a full year of undecidedness between Polk RM series, and Infinity. A sales person at Best buy spent some time with me & introduced me to Klipsch. Sales guy was full of knowledge & extremely helpful. After reading reviews from here & other web sites like CNET, I decided I would buy this system. I absolutley love it. Great sound for all of your listening, the 10" sub delivers solid clean bass. Spend the extra $ for good wiring & cables to get the most of it. Cinema like sound in your home gauranteed ! I wish the reciever had some HDMI inputs

I really like these speakers. They are so small yet they have so much sound. I was tempted to get the F-3 floor standing speakers, but since it was going in a room that is not primarily dedicated as a home theater room, I opted to go a cheaper route. I did decide to swap out the center speaker as it isn't as big as you would want for a surround system. That is where you would spend another couple hundred bucks and get yourself the Klipsch SL package. It gives you a much better center speaker as well as two bigger fronts.
