    Misleading advertising; poor support

I owned the first generation Kobo for about 6 months before upgrading to this model a couple months ago. Neither really live up to Kobo's promises. Bluetooth function on Kobo v1 never worked; only way to add books was via USB. "Wireless" version will only connect with the Kobo store; forget about the numerous other ebook sources like Project Gutenberg, your local library, etc. Today I tried to update my Kobo with my Kobo library, and it locked all 35 books so they won't open. Tried purchasing a new book... it insists I don't have a payment method on file even though I've confirmed w/Kobo that my credit card is all there and accurate. I bought this because I travel extensively, but have yet - after two months - to successfully purchase and read a book while I'm on the road; I'm still limited to purchasing books while I'm home and transferring via USB (Security limitations related to the work I do on my travel laptop block commercial websites like kobo.com, so I can't add books via USB when I'm traveling). Calling customer support is a waste; they just take your name and a description of your problem, then promise an email that will solve all your problems. The email, when it finally comes, has an inaccurate transcription of what you told them was wrong, followed by a 'solution' that has nothing to do with the problem you're having. Bottom line is that I've decided to cut my losses; toss the $200+ investment I've made in the two Kobos, along with the money I've invested in 35 books that will only open on Kobo, and buy a Kindle. FWIW, neither of these Kobos were purchased from Best Buy; both came from Borders. This negative review is relative to the product only... I'm still a fan of Best Buy; they just have the misfortune of being linked to the 'write review' function at epinion.com

    Great hardware, lacking software

Before I bought my brother-in-law a kindle, I decided that I would like to have a ' pure' E-reader, so my wife bought me a Kobo. I really like the light weight, quilted back, easy to use controls, SD card slot, and overall simplicity of the unit. What bothers me is that there are only 2 fonts available. Extra fonts are NOT a gimmick but would truly enhance the reading experience. The unit lacks any kind of note taking option or even bookmarking. You can NOT access the dictionary unless looking up a word already in a book you are reading. If Kobo would put out an upgrade for the software to add some of these important reading enhancements, I would have no hesitation in giving the original Kobo 5 stars! I seriously hope that Kobo does not abandon future upgrades beacause it is too focused on the touch edition. It really is a pleasure to use for reading.

    The best

After taking some time to decide, I picked one at the airport. It comes with a 100 books bonus. It is simple, easy, and does everything you need to read a book. Yes, it does not allow you to connect to Internet, but neither your tooth brush does. Should you throw it away? It´s a great deal for the price, the books included are awesome (if you are familiar to reading good books) and it has wireless capabilities to buy and download your books. And Kobo store has apps to allow use of other devices such as your smartphone or laptop. Could not be more satisfied.

By far the easiest & lightest of the ereaders i have tried. This is a dedicated reading device, no games, no internet, no problems! It does connect to the Kobo store via Wi-Fi & was super easy to set up. I also own a Nook and I tried Velocity Micro's Cruz (color reader), and of the three if a friend asked me which to buy I would tell them to get the Kobo!

Kobo Reader is complicated & takes time to learn

If you only want to read the classics, the Kobo Reader is great for that because it comes with many of them. It took me a while before I could understand how to download ebooks from sites like Adobe.com and champagnebooks.com. You really have to fiddle around with the mechanism to understand how to download from other sites.

Instead of paper-back books my school is trieing e-readers. Today I got to check out one of these kobo e-readers from my school. It's a great product and is very light. The kobo is great I love it, if I bought a personal e-reader, it would be between the kindle and the kobo.

I liked it has an e-Reader. I was able to get books out of the library with it. However, it broke within 30 days of purchase and I was able to return it and instead got the Nook Simple Touch eReader which I like. I know people who like the Nook.

Bought this for my wife who hates technology stuff. She loves being able to carry around a bunch of books on her Kobo, finds it easy to use. Only limitation is that the Kobo needs to be recharged every few days.

Kobo is a great basic eReader. It does exactly what it should do, allow you to read books anywhere, anytime. Easy to use and in conjunction with the freeware program, Calibre, it handles nearly any format of ebook.

I dropped my last Kobo and it was beyond repair. I just had to buy another. Excellent if all you want to do is read. Will easily fit into backpack or a pocket in cargopants. Take it wherever you go.

The reader was okay. It held ebooks. It held no thrill for me. I returned it.
