I'm going to give you the best information I can

Alright, so here is the nitty-gritty on this device. It's great! I would recommend it to anyone out there. Here's why. Number one: The device itself is great. It has a great user interface that is simple and easy to navigate. The home screen is very pleasant and easy to get around on. The device is fast and get's around very efficiently especially with it's browser which is very solid for an e-ink device. Page turns aren't nearly the lightning fast kind the Nook Touch offers, but it turns more than fast enough for anyone to have an enjoyable read. Don't worry about adds on this device either. There are none. This device only comes in colors and not "Add Free Editions." Speaking of colors, this ereader comes in COLORS!!!!!!!! Your options aren't just black, grey, or more black. It's COLORS!!!!!!!! Another great thing with this ereader is the apps that Kobo makes for cross device reading. I own a BlackBerry and a Android tablet which both have great Kobo apps. My spots save on my ereader and go to all my devices in case I read from there. If you're not sure on what reading device works for you and have a computer, tablet, or smartphone, try their apps out. Kobo's is very nice and reflects their ereader well. Number two: No matter where you are in the world, as long as you have wi-fi, you can use this to download more books. It doesn't matter for your address, credit card address or anything, you can read any where. Why's that great? It's great because this product is a good long term buy. You never know what could happen in the future. Kindle or Nook? You're out of luck of using them outside the US. Kobo? USE AT ALL THE PLACES!! Number three: this device supports MANY formats! Yes, Kobo sells ebooks that you can use on this device, but you can also use ePub (which is a great resource), PDF, TEXT, HTML and Mobi. This means that you have a crazy amount of ways to get the book you're looking for. Also, there's image capabilities for comics that works very well! Number four: Kobo does updates to improve their products. If you've looked at reviews online, more likely than not, they have complained that there is no margin settings or a lack of wider variety in font styles. Guess what! Kobo changed that as soon as they heard people wanted it! You can adjust margins, spacing, and justification now. Also, they added more fonts AND gave you the ability to add more if you don't like the ones they gave you. Kobo is great with their customers from what I've experience. That goes for their product control and their customer service which is very patient from when I've had to contact them. Number five: It has a great battery! Nook and Kindle say "2 month battery life," but few realize that 2 months of battery is expected if you only read for an hour a day. I don't know about many people, but when I read, it's for at least 2-4 hours. Kobo measures battery life by page turns. A full charge will get you 10,000 page turns. That's a lot of reading and just as much as Nook and Kindle can output. The batteries are just fine on Kobos and are well worth the value. Number six: It's from a company that just started a little over a year ago. This company is a recognized competitor to Nook and Kindle. In fact, Kobo is dancing in circles around them internationally. Kobo has also piloted the social reading aspect of ebooks with Reading Life, which is actually pretty entertaining to try and accomplish the goals. All this is great for the customer because it's a worthy investment. Building a library with them is not a gamble. They're getting bigger every day and offering more and more options along with new ways to enjoy the time you get to read. Sorry this has gotten long, but I just wanted to get my word out on Kobo. They're not talked about much in the USA and I feel like they deserve a better say. They make very nice products at very good prices. Nook Touch just dropped for the holidays. I can guarantee that Kobo will also have a significant drop as well.

Couldn't Ask For Anything Else - Perfect!

I bought one for my birthday, and I love it. I don't have to carry a novel in my purse all the time, so that it reduces the weight. (Yes I carry heavy purses lol.) Plus I like the fact that you don't need any bookmarks, it bookmarks itself since I tend to lose my bookmarks and then I would start off somewhere that I might have read before. Not to mention that you can download as many books as you can quickly and easily through Kobo's website, and some of them are free. And with many books that you have on this e-reader, you can get rid of your paperbacks and donate it to a local library or sell it so you could start decluttering your house. So if you are wondering what gift you could give for Christmas, birthday, or any holiday, I would definitely recommend this.

I use tablets and smartphones as ereaders but for heavy use the e-ink is much easier on the eyes. All the major brands work fine, but Kobo comes in first in comparison reviews. Also, Kobo store allows you to download as ePub for use with other branded readers. It took me a few days to get used to the device - how the touchscreen responds, navigation, etc., but it works very well and is easy to use. I love having a large library in my pocket, I love the easy to read display, I love the convenient size and weight of the reader, and I love going for days at a time without having to recharge (which you can't do with a backlit tablet or phone). I also love borrowing books electronically from the library without having to go on site. One note, the Kobo Bookstore has plenty of content, but is smaller than B&N or Amazon, some newer releases are slower to come out, etc.

    A good value

Its a quality e-reader that is more 'open' than others. Its compatible with most libraries, and supports books from third party stores. Side-loading books with other programs such as Calibre is also very easy. Recent firmware updates support loading custom fonts on the device and changing the number of page turns before a full refresh. It has a beta web browser that seems mildly functional but does have problems with some pages. This device was certainly meant to be a reader first and foremost. There are two failings I've experienced so far. One is that it will occasionally miss a 'page turn' touch, and then turn two pages on the next touch. The other is that bookmarks aren't synced between the reader and other devices like the iPhone app for non-kobo purchased books.

The Kobo has features the other ereaders I looked at lacks. Unlike Kindle, which has a proprietory format, Kobo takes epub books (epub is the universal standard). It takes pdf files as well (although I convert everything to ePub). There's plenty of storage, & ebooks on a memory card integrate into the library just as ebooks "on the device" do. Where a Nook Touch reserves the majority of it's memory for content from B & N, the Kobo has no restrictions. Also, deleting content is much easier; each ebook has a drop-down menu that enables immediate deletion. I don't have to hook this up to a computer & rummage through files to delete them as I would with a Nook. Best of all, I can read in direct sunlight. The Kobo is a great product, especially for the money.

    Comic Book Archive

    Posted
    IvoKintobor

The reason I got the Kobo over the Nook and the Kindle was for Comic Book Archive support, it does what it's supposed to. Be aware, it only supports CBR and CBZ (to the best of my knowledge anyways), then again... those are by far the most commonly used. Over all, I'm liking it. It's a little smaller than I originally thought, but even so with a full screen comic book on my 15.6" laptop, I've had to zoom it to read some things, not with this (I don't know why). My one complaint is that while using wifi, it sucks the juice out of the batteries WAY faster than just reading, then again, that's not this things main purpose.

    Best Ereader on the market

    RXReader

I love this ereader! It is much better (easier to use, lighter weight, etc) than the others on the market. It's super light weight, quick to download books, and the touch screen is VERY easy to use. I love the built in wi-fii and how it allows me quick access to books on the go. I would definately recommend getting the extra memory card when you buy this so you are free to expand because this device is a keeper. Althought I LOVE the feel of books, this e-reader is super convenient and has sold me to the e-reading world. I really can't say enough great things about it.

    Perfect reading companion

My Kobo Reader eTouch is exactly what I was hoping it would be. That means that: - it is light enough to be held in any reading position without getting tiring - it displays the book pages in a way that is readable in any light that a printed book could be read - the touch screen controls work well and are obvious - purchasing and downloading books from the Kobo store is quick and easy to do - the battery life of the device is at least 14 days - the bookmarks in my books are synchronized across my e-devices through the Kobo apps on each of them

    Nice basic reader

    lorabilly

I purchased the Kobo because at the time it was the only reader that claimed to be able to download books when out of the US. I also need a good selection of books in Spanish, which they really didn't have. There was nothing wrong with the Kobo. For a basic reader it's very nice, compact, comfortable to hold, elegant, even. But the reader market is changing so fast, with the announcement of the Kindle Fire it was basically out of date the minute I bought it. And figuring out which reader works where and who has the best books and whose books can be downloaded where and on what machine was nearly impossible. So I returned this and got an iPad. I'm not sure if it is the answer to all my questions, but it is one beautiful little machine!

E-reader is a gem, touchpad needs improvement

    Posted

This Kobo Touch is our first E-reader, screen quality is good, sharp with great contrast. Nice design and a pleasure to read e-books with this device. Unfortunately the touchpad is not as responsive as we would like it to be, for example the selecting text option does not work smooth at all and even page turning could be more accurate. I sometimes wish that it also had a 'fool proof' button for turning pages as previous models!. Some of this is just getting used too I guess, but the touchpad needs some improvement.

The device is good if you wish to read something in detail instead of browsing. You can stare at it for hours without your eyes feeling irritated. In this sense it is excellent. And among the same kind of products available nowadays, this product looks neat and pleasant. In terms of features and ease of use, the technical level of an e-reader is overall still in an inchoate stage now, so an average convenience in using is good for me. It can also do very basic web surfing (no adobe flash). I like the device very much.

    The flexible underdog

    WillysJeepMan

Having spent extensive time with the "top tier" eReaders, I was looking for a device that would simply just "work" without the need for a lot of converting and tinkering. The Kobo Touch natively supports a wide range of eBook formats. What sets it apart from the others is native support for CBZ/CBR formats and PDF rendering that supports zoom, pan-n-scan.

I received the Kobo ereader as a gift. I cannot believe how super easy it was to set up and download books! I read a whole book in 1 day! There are so many books to choose from-I downloaded 4 of them at .99 each! Yes, only .99 each! The words are so clear-even in direct sunlight. The main reason this ereader was chosen for me, was because you can use it outside the United States-on a sunny beach in February! :o) This ereader far exceeded my expectations!!

I had put off buying the Kobo until I had done some research but when the new Touch came out, I decided that it time to purchase one. I like the lightness of the reader, the ease of use, the capability of expanding the memory, etc. Would recommend this item to others. I own several other readers but the Kobo has become a quick favorite.

52 attempts to turn it on

    Posted
    yohjo

I am on my second. The first would freeze 3 or 4 times while I was reading., I had to have a paper clip taped to the back to reset. Exchanged it after one week. The second one freezes maybe once a week but a simple restart solves the problem. BUT, turning it on once it has powered off is a ridiculous process. The switch has to be slid usually between 7 & 15 times before it starts. Once last week it took 32 times. Tonight, 52 times. Do not buy. Get the Nook. A bit bigger but worked perfectly.

Does just what it should, and does so very nicely. Displays books from the Kobo store and sideloaded files from elsewhere very nicely. Touch screen works well and is very clear. There are occasional stutters when turning pages but nothing worrying. Well worth the price!

I bought this item as a gift and at first I heard it was a pretty good item then a couple days later I was told it wasn't user friendly. When trying to download certain items onto the ereader it charged for books that weren't selected. Too bad so sad, had to return it. :(

The Kobo does not measure up to other ereaders. Very very slow in loading and slow in turning pages. The Kobo customer care department acted concerned but there was no resolution to my problems.....only broken promises. Do not buy a Kobo product, you will be disappointed!
