    Great camera for over-all use

    Posted .

I bought this camera at Christmas time for under $200. I had been reviewing mega-zoom point and shoot cameras for some time. My old Kodak Easy Share 12x Zoom served me very well for many years, hiking, 4-wheeling on my ATV, horseback riding, etc. It really took a beating and the photos were always spectacular! Kodak was one of the only point and shoot mega zoom cameras with a viewfinder, which is crucial to me. I also have a Canon Rebel DSLR, but don't always want to be bothered with changing lenses. Also, the lenses I have do not have the zoom capability of the Kodak. I have $1,000 worth of Canon equipment, yet my under $200 Kodak is far superior in zoom capability! The color is excellent and very true to what I view through the camera when taking a photo. The color saturation is excellent. Sometimes the edges are a little soft without a tripod on the long end of the zoom, but that is to be expected. The camera is light weight so I have no problem carrying it over my shoulder on the trail. Sometimes the focus is just a bit slow (especially when photographing birds), but all in all I am extremely pleased with my purchase, and all of my friends think I am a professional photographer! I would highly recommend this camera to anyone on a budget who wants an over-all use point and shoot with a fantastic zoom!

    good buy

I am no professional but, I think this is a wonderful camera for the price. When I loaded some pictures to my lap top, I was amazed at the clarity and color. For example, I have a pet green checked conour parrot. A photo of him was so clear with details I never notice with the naked eye. No photo editing, close up, on auto, indoors. I definately would suggest this product. I've only had it a short time and have a lot more feature to discover like panaramic photos and manual settings. I can't wait to take it whale watching this spring. And I have not noticed a short battery life someone else mention. I say keep extra just in case anyway. Have fun! It's great!

This is one of the best super zooms on the market

I got this camera two weeks ago and have been great fun with this camera. From recording 1080p with the new one touch record button and you can take a photo while you are recording. To digital emulation of the old kodak films like Kodachrome, T-Max and other slide and film products. It is kind of neat that it has the ability to have a frame look like a piece of film on a strip. The camera has sweeping panoramic both horizontally and vertically. Camera has a 30x imaged stabilized lens and a nice grip for hanging onto the camera. It use 4 AA batteries and with the new high tech rechargeable and lithium photo batteries i can go days and days on a set of 4, because of the new BSI CMOS image sensor that uses less energy. At Easter i took pictures in our dark dinning room and did not need to use a flash! The picture came out great. I think that this is the best Z camera kodak has made in 7 years, out shining the past super zoom camera they have made. You can not go wrong with this camera.

Excellent camera, totally worth the money

    Posted .

I have had this camera for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it! I am a professional photographer and I purchased this so that I have two cameras, the other one I have is the Kodak Z981 which is a great camera also. The main differences is the Z990 has the Automatic Panorama and longer focal length so this will be my main camera and the Z981 will be my backup. The shutter speed on this Z990 is great, the picture quality is great and the auto panoramic mode is great! Everything is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! To clear up a few questions I have seen other people ask, the grip on the front does not turn in any way, but it does act as an excellent grip to hold onto the camera. Also, the Automatic panorama mode has 4 settings, left to right, right to left, up to down and down to up. You have 5 seconds to pan in the direction you set, and you can't move it to fast or you will get an error message. It may take a few times to "swing" it correct, but once you do, it works like a charm! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this camera, I recommend it 100%.

    Great Camera for the Price

This camera takes fantastic pictures!! I wish the instructions made more sense, but trial and error has worked just as well. I have read in other reviews that the batteries don't last long, but battery life has not been a problem for me. I just charge them everytime I use them, and no problem! And one last comment... I wish the upload used the same program as my last Kodak Easyshare. This one just seems more difficult to work with when I try to edit my pictures. Overall, I definitely recommend this camera!

    Came back to Kodak.....

    Posted .

I have had 3 Kodak digital cameras over the years and have always been pleased with them. However, after the last one had problems, I found tht Kodak doesn't really want to work on a broken camera, they want you to replace it. I decided to try another brand of camera and got a Nikon. It's just not intuitive like the Kodaks have been. So, I am back with Kodak and love having the one shot action setting back. (as opposed to a 10 shot burst on the Nikon that I do NOT like!) It is a bit heavy due to the batteries, but it is a small price to pay for the wonderful photos. I had some problems with error screens coming up while taking pictures. Once I formatted the SD card to the camera, they are gone. I do recommend a 10 speed card however, it saves from having lag time.

    Great camera with some problems

    Posted .

I have used the Z990 for several months now. The picture to picture speed is not that fast. The clock has a mind of its own which makes reviewing pictures a pain when they are displayed out of out order. Your pictures are put in order by time and date so if you take pictures at 10:00 am and the clock is right and then you take more at 11:00 but the camera changes the time to say 7:00 am and then you go to review you pictures it will show you the 10:00am pictures as the last pictures. The clock changes the hour at random. Some may find that very minor but its a pain to me. Other that the slow picture to picture speed and the clock its a great camera.

Camera is good but with issues

    Posted .

I bought this camera online and found that it takes quite good pictures. Changing the settings while shooting in manual mode is problematic at best. The menu system is probably the biggest obstacle. I also found that the clock would be off by 4 hours every day, and later it would be right on time. So, returned it for a replacement and found the same issue with the clock. If you can't take pictures and tag the time/date properly, what good does a clock do? While the price was good, features are good, the camera lacks ease of use in anything other than full auto. This replaced a Canon S1IS that I had for yeas without any issues or problems. So, I exchanged the Z990 for the Canon Powershot SX40HS. Man what a difference in ease of use. And the clock works. Best Buy was very understanding and dealt with the issue great. Am now happy with the Canon.

    awesome for the $

I have used cameras from point-n-shoot to full SLR. This camera ranks very close to the best for up to the = of 800mm lense. It has the ability to do full SLR if you are inclined or its presets are very good to excellent for a novice/intermediate user.

Short battery life is only negative.

Even after following the exact directions for battery preparation and usage, I am disappointed by the duration of the battery charge. Many times only ONE hour of operation was observed. I find this camera exhibits much shorter battery charge life than other cameras I have owned.

Nice camera but documentation is sketchy

    |
    Posted .

This is a very nice camera with loads of features. But I have found the instructions, both the print version included with the camera and the online manual, to be very sketchy in explaining what the features are and how to use them. It's a shame because I think I could get a lot more out of it if I could figure out how to use it more effectively. The battery compartment is not easy to close. And the fact that the external memory card is inside the battery compartment makes it incredibly annoying. Also, the batteries don't seem to hold the charge for very long at all.

Kodak Z990 a great camera for beginners

    Posted .

I really like my Kodak Z990 camera. I am all thumbs when it comes a cameras. I found the Kodak z990 very easy to use. Takes great pictures. The built in 30x zoom requires no takeing off one lens and putting on another. The "share" button really made up loading of pictures easy. A great camera for traveling.

Great camera for all occasions and easy to use. I wish it came with a printed instruction booklet. I need constant reviewing and when I'm at a sport event or hiking or traveling, There is no computer available to refer to.

    Terrific for the price

    Posted .

Got it for 200 bucks during the holidays (might be even cheaper now) and could not be happier for the price. Amazing zoom, excellent no-flash pictures plus all the bells and whistles. Is it absolutely perfect? Of course not. Tends to eat up the batteries when using the flash, and the flash light does not recede back in when the camera is off (have to tap on it), but with everything I am getting out of it, it is absolutely great.

    Wonderful

    Posted .

This camera is great. It is so easy and takes wonderful pictures. I am very glad I made this purchase. The tagging is a little time consuming. It doesn't seem to automatically recognize the face. I am still learning, so there may be a way to make it more automatic. Over all this camera is wonderful for the money.

    Any photo is awesome!

I wanted a camera that took great indoor photos of people at close range, and a camera that took great outdoor photos with a high optical zoom. Pictures have excellent clarity! The camera is a little more advanced than the original small easy share camera that had, but has not been difficult to learn.

    Don't Do It!

    Posted .

I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with this camera! All of the stats and many reviews were favorable. It had all the features I was looking for---- should have known it was too good to be true!!! My first camera came (I paid extra to expedite shipping) in a box that had taken a beaten. Best Buy did expdite a replacement... My biggest concern before receiving the camera was purchasing one that operated on AA batteries - but some people felt it was a pro as you could always use standard AA batteries in a pinch. Well... I charged my batteries and took the camera to my son's football game and it did not stay charged for the entire game! I was uspet - but felt I MUST have done something wrong. Same the happened the next day at a band competition! Unfortunately - I had to travel out of town for business for a week - before I got back to my camera. I decided that the picture quality was OK and it was easy enough to use.. but for the money, I was not happy and decided to return it. On day 15.... I learned from Best Buy -- that I could NOT return it... as it was past 14 days! Now I am completely disgruntled with this camera... and even moreso, Best Buy..... ARGH. Needless to say I will not be shopping with Best Buy at anytime for anything in the near future!!!!

    Good Camera

    Posted .

This was a really good camera. It came with all the features I wanted. When you zoom in tho the full 30x, it is really clear, but you have to wait a few seconds for the picture to clear up. Honestly, if I saw the camera in person, I probably would have picked something else. I don't think this camera is worth $200, but that is what the price is.But, i'm happy with this camera.
