THIS CAMERA HAS SOME SERIOUS ISSUES

I give this camera a 1 star rating for the fact that only 20% of the pictures are of use. I really liked the features offered on this camera that I bought it twice and returned it twice. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the first one but found out that exactly the same thing happened with the second one. This camera constantly crashes. You are lucky if you get 3 minutes of hi def video recording and then the camera crashes. It crashes because it’s thermal limiter locks out all the functions including lens retraction - it just freezes, probably because the camera gets very hot during use - and you can’t even reset the camera by removing the batteries or doing a reset from the menu because the menu is not accessible because of the freeze up. It also crashes when taking photos in normal usage of photographing while on vacation. Again, it crashes with total loss of camera functions. In both instances I had to wait a good 10 minutes before the camera would reset itself or let me do a reset. Then it only functioned for a short period of time, just a few minutes and did the same thing again. I am lucky if I got 6 shots and it got hot and crashed again. This happened 4 or 5 times in one “session.” Needless to say, I missed the best part of the parade in video and the best photographs of the moment due to camera failure. When it does take a usable photo, it is a very good photo, but they are few and far between. Kodak had no valid explanation for this occurrence, and they kept saying there is nothing wrong with the camera. They said that they would replace it but with a refurbished one, but I insisted on a new camera since that is what I paid for. They told me they would not send a new one, so I returned the camera for a “no questions asked” refund which you cannot get from Kodak because they just won’t do that, and I purchased another new camera, same model, thinking that maybe I just got a “lemon” with the first camera. No, both cameras are lemons! Again I returned the second camera to the store with no problems. I would definitely NOT recommend this camera.

First of all, if you are going by the pictures I've posted, they are much clearer in reality than they appear uploaded on the website. I've had my camera for about a week and have gotten some great photos out of it. Before I received it in the mail, I was searching youtube videos online to better understand the basics of photography. The videos helped me when I got the camera to adjust some settings(the aperture, flash setting, ISO, etc.) I've been using the program and manual modes and have gotten some great pictures by just trying to learn how the camera works. I will say, I've taken it to a school drum competition and the pictures weren't as clear as when I was taking care with every picture. The smart mode is a great feature that gets okay quality pictures, but so far they haven't been unbelievable quality in smart-capture mode. It DOES come with a charger, but it the batteries take 8-10 hours to charge. AA batteries work fine for a day of shooting. It's easy to carry extras with you. Also, if you are looking to getting into photography, this camera does not take lenses. That is something I overlooked, but no worries. I'm loving it, regardless. The macro+ setting works VERY well. Overall, I love my new camera. It's a great price for an upscale point and shoot. If you are willing to figure out how to make a good photo(which was fairly easy--watched a few videos and practiced on my own experimenting with settings), then I don't think you will be disappointed with the purchase.

My son recently started playing high school football and although I have always loved our Sony Cyber Shot, the zoom capacity was just not up to par for getting great actions shots from the stands. I researched quite a few cameras over the last few weeks and finally decided on this Kodak. Wow! What an awesome camera. Takes great pictures, zoom is awesome and it's fairly easy to use. The 'Facebook' application is greatly appreciated as I can upload pics to Facebook and my home computer in one QUICK shot. You will need to buy a memory card though, which I didn't realize when I purchased the camera, but picked up one of those for under $20 so no biggie. Overall a great camera at a great price. Makes me feel like I'm taking professional shots! I'm going to include two shots that I was able to snap on the very first afternoon of use.........

This was an upgrade from a much older version of this camera. I had my old camera for 8 years and loved it. The biggest seller for me on the Z981 was the fact it had an "eye piece" to take pictures with and not just an LCD screen. I was very disappointed in this camera. With 14 mp, one would think that it would take a good picture. Not so, my pictures were grainy in some cases and "noisy" in others. It's reaction time from one picture to another is very slow, especially if it gets hung up in "processing" a picture. For me this was a problem as I have young kids that play sports. Some of the outside shots came out very dark even during the day. Also, I was not all that impressed with the face recognition. Several times it focused on anywhere but the face. The back breaker for me is the fact that there is no date stamp. I contacted Kodak to see if I had missed how to put the date stamp on pictures. They informed me that the date stamp was not an automatic feature. You had to go into "view" mode and manually put the date stamp on a picture. I take no less than a 100 pictures at a time. So, this is a big problem for me as I like a date stamp on my pictures. Overall, this is an expensive okay camera.

I was worried when I received this camera due to it being made of plastic, I thought it would be metal. I shouldn't have. This camera is very sturdy and simple to use. The instruction manual is fairly well written for what I read of it. Personally, since I had a Kodak before I found the on screen instructions easy to follow and tossed the manual into the drawer after the first look. This camera takes great shots at night (Christmas lights - don't forget to turn off the flash) and worked great for my daughters Christmas show. Make sure to take advantage of the quicker recovery time on this camera by buying the correct storage chip and be sure to set it for the correct type of shooting you will do. For example, sports or fireworks. This will make a difference. I had no trouble holding this camera still for my pictures as I did sometimes with smaller cameras. This is my 6th Kodak in 40 years, all winners with the exception of the smaller one I purchased last year, it was a dud. This one is a Big Winner however and great for any savy teen or adult user who wants more than just a quick shot. Did I mention you can send to T, F or e-mail? Note: if your buying for Christmas you should know that the batteries come partially charged and they are rechargeables....If your heading on vacation or Aunt Susans, get the charger and some extra batteries before leaving.

    Average Camera Overall

I expected more from a Kodak camera. This camera is a bit too lightweight. I have a point and shoot camera because that is what I want to do - point and shoot - not set up some elaborate photo shoot with tripods. I take LOTS of photos and I need to be able to take them on the spur of the moment. However, this camera, even though it has potential and I have gotten some excellent pictures from it, I would NOT have kept it if it was the ONLY high zoom camera I had. I would have invested more money into a different brand, even with slightly less zoom power. The lightweight causes more shaking when holding camera to zoom in and this compromises picture quality a LOT!! Close ups in SOME instances tend to take on a purplish colour. Not sure why. This camera does not do good in overcast situations or dusk even when still relatively light. Grass tends to take on a strange grayish-green colour and again the purplish colours sometimes show up. Indoors I have mixed reviews. Some good shots -some turn yellow. Video part is quite good. Camera SOMETIMES does not want to focus for close ups.

This camera takes great pictures. I have always loved Kodak cameras for their ease of use. My previous Kodak died, so I thought I would upgrade to one of their top of the line cameras. This camera feels very cheap. It seems like it is plastic all the way through. That is my first issue. Then there is the lens cap cover which is ALWAYS in the way. If I keep this camera, I am thinking about just removing it. I am constantly having to drape it over my hand when I am snapping pictures. The battery door is a real pain. It takes real effort to close it and then make sure that it has actually latched shut. Lastly, it is beyond me why Kodak has decided to use 4 rechargeable batteries in this camera. They do not seem to hold a charge for a tremendously long time, so they must be removed, put in the charger and plugged in for 16 - 18 hours. Of course, I could purchase a more rapid charger, but that doesn't change the fact that the batteries are not long lasting. I don't know why Kodak has discontinued their Easy Share Docks that were so convenient. They seem to be going backwards instead of forward with their products. I guess I would only recommend this product because it takes such great pictures.

I just bought this camera today, and the batteries came halfway charged. I started taking pictures with it and was immediately impressed. The zoom is amazing and on smart capture, you can hold the shutter down and it will focus before snapping the shot on full zoom to get a clear picture! Also, the burst mode is awesome! It can take 3 pictures or 8 at once! Another thing is there is a tri-pod mount on the bottom of the camera and some reviews and websites said that it doesn't. The mount can also be used to attached the vertical grip but the grip is not necessary though to take vertical pictures, you can use your right pointer finger to switch from horizontal to vertical and then turn the camera vertically and snap the shot! Its as easy as that! Overall, great camera and I am very happy with my purchase!!!!!!

    Better than Nikon

Grab this camera!! I've had quite a few cameras, including a Kodak Z1012. I wanted to upgrade to a DSLR but really didn't want to spend $700 (or more), so I bought a Nikon P100 in October. After that went in for repair in January, I bought this Kodak and love it. The picture quality is much better than the Nikon and it is easier to use. Although it doesn't have all the options as the Nikon, the ease of use and quality of pictures far exceeds its few lack of options. I can still point and shoot for candid shots, but still have the ability to use manual settings to change things up a bit. The drawbacks are minimal, but need to be mentioned...it uses 4 AA batteries, and although it comes with a battery charger, I cannot charge the batteries while connected to the computer. The software that comes with the camera isn't all that great, but that's a personal opinion. The facts are this camera takes terrific photos, easy to use, and the price is very reasonable.

Needed a good point & shoot to back up my digital SLR. This camera was a good choice to fill that need, especially with its' good quality 14mp. It is very easy to set up and use and it fits good in your hands. Zoom capability is excellent. The big LCD screen is also very useful The only downside to this camera, is the short battery life. When using the lcd screen during the day it shortens the use of the camera to only about 2 hours of use. Which is a hindrance if you are out and unable to recharge, especially difficult due to the time its takes to fully charge the batteries. Overall an excellent camera and I would recommend it to anyone. Price was above average but in my opinion the camera is an excellent choice.

I was looking for a new camera after Christmas. I found this one on Best Buy's web site. At the time it was on sale for $180 and for the money it just could not be beat. I was expecting to have to pay much more for a camera with these kind of features. I was using a Fuji S3000 digital and I was never satisfied with it , I have used Kodak cameras at work before and always liked them. When I found this one I jumped on it. I have not been disapointed. You have to be willing to learn to use all of the features, this is not just a point and click camera. I still am learning how to use some of the features and enjoying the process. I have many freinds who have similar cameras and paid much more money, the only ones that are actually better than mine are the couple who have digital SLR's

Love it! Love it! I was a little nervous because some reviews were a little negative. I decided to give it a try and if I didn't like it I would return it. I have enjoyed it ever since a took the first picture. Love the zoom! I bought the camera for a trip to Italy and can't wait to document our travels with my camera. I learned that the negative reviews about the battery door is factual; however, I have learned how to avoid difficulties. I just hold the door closed very tight before sliding the lock. It works every time and that negative is far outweighed by the great features and pictures.

Love this camera! I bought this camera mostly because I I already owned an older Kodak Point & Shoot and was very happy with it. I wanted something with more zoom & megapixels and this one was perfect. Love the zoom, it takes great long distance photos and the photos for the action shot are great too. I took this on vacation with me and am very happy with the results. Some people have claimed to have problems with the battery life but so far I haven't seen a problem. I did buy an extra set of batteries that can be recharge but I haven't had to use them yet. I do use the viewfinder almost exclusively though.

This camera is better than what i thought it was going to be. I read the reviews and seen people say how it had horrible picture quality and shuts off all the time. The only thing i find difficult about this camera is getting it in the right settings to make the picture perfect. Im sure once i get down all the SWEET features it will work perfectly! The picture quality is great i stood on my back deck and took a picture of a bush about aprox. 100 yards away and it turned out great. LOVE THIS CAMERA. i took the picture below about 20 or 30ft away.

We bought this camera to take better pictures of the kids. Our old one was too slow to catch the little ones who don't sit still very long and it was complicated to download the photos. This Kodak takes really great shots and is easy to use. It has all the features we looked at in much higher priced cameras for a lot less. I also look foward to using the high powerd zoom on some wildlife pictures. We now want to take a photography class to make the most of it.

I was surprised how easy this camera was to use. The menus are simple to navigate and as long as the battery is charged you can immediately start taking pictures. 26x zoom is even better than I thought. The panoramic mode is amazing. Aside from the batteries and how long the equipped charger takes to charge them, the camera is the best I have ever owned. That is easily fixed by an upgraded charger that can do the same job in 15 minutes.

Most of the reviews for this camera are great! I agree, the camera is fantastic, very easy to use, the zoom is perfect. The batteries are the only issue, but I have other rechargables that I use and I don't have the problems that the others talk about. If you are looking for a great camera that offers the options of much higher priced cameras, then this one is for you. I've had nothing but PERFECT results from the pictures I've taken so far!!

Comes with rechargeable AA batteries, 26x zoom, 14 mpixel, GREAT. I like the ability to turn off the large LCD and use the viewfinder Software not included (online), manual online, finding your pictures several days later, very difficult. Rather than downloading by date into “My Pictures”. Pictures put somewhere in “Kodak”, starting with 001, 002, etc. If you do not delete all the photos on the camera after download, another copy will be created with the next download. I have been removing the memory card, putting in my old camera to download pictures. Overall Camera GREAT, software NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at a lot of cameras before choosing this one. I have really liked it so far. The pictures have turned our really well. I just could not afford those higher priced zoom cameras and this one takes pictures that look just as good as some of the pictures my friend takes with her high-dollar camera. I have not had any issues with battery life thus far and hope that I won't. The features seem to be easy to use and I like that you can send pics to your email, etc. So far, I am very happy with this selection.

I upgraded from a Z8612 IS to this camera and am not sorry at all. Although I still have my Z8612, and am planning on keeping it, that is a great camera also. Where can you find a camera of this caliber, zoom lens and just a great camera for $300.00 or less????? It just doesn't happen ....... Yes, the batteries could have been lithium instead of AA's but that's just power for the course.
