    A very good printer

    Posted .

The printer is built very well and the installation went very well. The good parts are that the print quality is very good and the photo printing on Kodak paper is great. The cost of the ink is a very important advantage. I have printed a number of photos and have not made a dent in the ink cartages. I have had Epson HP and Canon printers they have worked well but the durability and the outrageous prices they charge for ink and how fast it disappears when printing photos makes me enjoy the Kodak printer that much more. I think they could improve their interface software especially for scanning. The Kodak software is very much focused on photo printing. In my opinion the 5500 is is a all in one printer that has the ability to handle home office business functions and in order to fully utilize the printers abilities improvement need to be made in the Kodak software provided. With that being said the quality and the effective cost of printing makes me believe that I have purchased a printer that I will be able to use for a long time while not being concerned with how much it is costing to print each page.

    works great

    Posted .

I have had this about a week. I have never bought anything but hp's in the past and have their laser jets printers in my office. When i learned that my hp inkjet printer has cartridges which time out i swore never to buy an hp printer again. I can drink day old milk but when the cartridge times out the machine is useless. I was hesitant to buy this because of the reviews but bought it on impulse on sale. The installation was flawless and easy to follow and the printer and fax work great. The extra added bonus is the price of consumables. I have a color laser but it can't do photos like this one. The pictures print out great ..no borders as if it came from a store or online service. You can print them right from the printer by puting the sd card in it or download it to the computer with the included software.

    kodakes5500-Exceptional product

The Kodak es5500 all in one printer with fax is an exceptional machine . I do recomend that before you start with puting the printer together that you read all the information that came with the printer this will save you time and alot of frustration. The Quality of the photo finish is unsurpassed by none other. Also be very careful with the print head it can be easily damaged before you even get started so take care there I have bought and owned many a printers in the last 18 yrs and feel that this one is and has been overlooked by pc magazines and the cost of the ink is very attractive and it does a job better than most of the one's that cost a few thousand dollars and they also have an exellent customer service department also. I bought this machine at Best Buy and will continue to shop there cause they have a way of making you feel you are important no matter how much you spend and also have a very knowledgeable staff also. 4 stars for the staff of Best Buy.

    SO Far So Good

    Posted .

I bought a new kodak camera and decided to give this printer a whirl, my old one was a dell which was good but the ink was so costly!! I went ahead and ordered this and then while I was waiting for it to arrive I Started to read the reviews on this site and others. I was scared to even except delivery after reading the reviews! I went ahead and did, Boy am I glad i did. First off when you open the box and see everything that worried me too there is a lot to put together. I mean a lot compared to my last few printers, I followed the manual to the tee in every order they said to do. It was smooth sailing then i Installed the software which was a bit time consuming about 45 min. about 30 min into the install it popped a window up saying it couldnt complete the install, However I followed the Prompts and found out i had to go to my Add Remove programs and uninstall my other kodak software and my old printer stuff (Dell) After re installing and doing the web updates everything is great so far. The quality of the pictures is truly amazing I never print at home because I scrapbook and there are so many to print and the quality is so much better at a store, but i might change that at least some of the time I have printed about 5 pictures just showing my friends how good a job it does. The printing was super fast for my documents way faster than my dell. Today I'm gonna try to fax, copy and scanner worked fine, Machine is a bit noisy and sometimes I wonder what its doing in there but Overall I really like it. If you choose to give it a shot all i can advise you on is to Install everything in the order the book tells you too and when it says too dont skip any steps. I think were really gonna like this machine. If you get one I hope it goes as well for you. Great quality and super cool. Also I love the fact that it has a dedicated paper tray for 4x6 photo paper very neat. Also love the memory card slots on front, my old one didnt even have those. Screen is nice to (LCD)

GREAT PRINTS & LOW INK PRICE!!!

    Posted .

I am super happy I bought the Kodak printer even though the best buy sales people tried to dissuade me from getting it. The set up was super easy for both Mac and PC, both of which I use to print from. I was most amazed at the printing quality on both photo paper and regular printer paper - AWESOME and much better than other printers I tried at the store. I was also really impressed by the speed it prints at and finally the best thing is how long the ink lasts, waaaaay longer than my last printer from a two letter company; and its much cheaper to buy...CANNOT RECOMMEND THE KODAK EASYSHARE MORE HIGHLY!!!

    Product Support Unavailable

    Posted .

This machine was difficult from the beginning. It would often refuse to feed paper. The color printing would become uneven, and I would have to clean and calibrate the printhead - probably at least a half a dozen times in two months. Then I developed a major problem with the color printing. I changed out cartridges and did everything the trouble shooting guide said to do - still bad. So, I began trying to reach customer support - on Monday. First I repeatedly tried the instant messenger on the site - not available. So, I sent an e-mail on Tuesday; and on Thursday. All I ever got was an automated response saying I'd be contacted within 24 hours. On Thursday afternoon, I called the help line. I was put on hold - FOR 40 MINUTES. Then I was CUT OFF! At this point, I wrote my last nasty e-mail saying that, if I did not get a phone call (I put my number in the message), I would return the printer. By Saturday, still no contact. Well, I am now the proud owner of an HP Photosmart, and I'm never going back to Kodak again. A printer which has unavailable tech support is a useless piece of technology.

    Great all in one

I bought the 5500 at Best Buy and could'nt be happier, it works just like it is suppose to, all the others who say they are having problems is strange to me sounds like maybe they didn't push the printhead hard enough to snap it in place, but who knows, I almost didn't buy it because of all the bad reviews, but then I read a couple of professional reviews and they had no problems, so I bought it and I'm sure glad I did, my Hp was eating me alive on ink and this just goes and goes on ink, really don't know what else you could exspect out of a printer It's a lot of printer for the money, I've printed a lot of pages with no problems, No paper jams which is always a concern, my previous printer was an HP. and I did'nt get one that worked until the 3rd printer, so I guess any of them can have a problem

    Great Product

    Posted .

I have been in the computer field since the late 1970's (before PC's - working on Mainframes) and as such have installed and repaired, as well as owned, many printers from all the major manufacturers. I can say that this 5500 is as good as any and better than most. I currently own 2 other AiO printers(other brands) both of which failed after very lttle use. I hope the 5500 lasts longer than the other two but only time will tell... As far as this printer is concerned, I am glad to say that it has done everything stated in the specs very well. I have not tried the FAX feature yet but all the other features were great. I have printed 4x6 prints that are as good as any I've seen on other printers at same price point. I like the seperate tray for 4x6 photo paper. The 2 side printing works great. The installation of the software is slow as was stated by other reviewers but it works well and has some nice features(printer generated watermark as an example). Overall I am very impressed with this product. I will update this review as time goes on and I have more experience with it. So far - so good...

    Satisfied with the Kodak 5500

    Posted .

I, too, was concerned about the negative customer reviews, but contrary to their experiences, I am completely pleased with the Kodak 5500 All-In-One printer. The installation steps were simple and I was startled by the beautiful, post card sharp, color prints. Compared to my past HP printers, this Kodak unit is designed sleek and is sturdier, appears better constructed and more durable. The fax was fast and the B&W pages spit out at twice the rate of my previous HP. Needless to say, the unit's ink use rate and price is extraordinary. Yes, I would definately recommend the 5500 and hope you'll be as happy with your unit as I am.

    Good so far

When setting up, like others, I got the print head error. I removed and reinstalled like it instructed and all was fine. 2 days later when I came back to machine and turned it on, got the error instantly and could not get rid of it. Called support, got right thru to the # supplied in box. 2 days later had new print head and a comp black and color cartridges. Installed and work from the start. I have copied a 5 X 7 photo down to a 4 X 6, and printed one new by down loading from computer to test machine, both printed as done by a pro. We'll see what happens from here.

Best printer i have ever owned!!!

this printer i would recomend to almost anyone who has a sense of technology and knows how to work things. this printer has been amazing, fast print time, amazing prints, althought there were a couple of glitches on the printer the firmware that kodak makes should fix the problem. the printer was designed very well in my opinion. kodak has a couple of glitches and has fixed them now. the printer for me has been great, the best part is that i dont have to go out and waste $50 dollars on ink when i can go out and spend $25 for both cartridges!!!! GREAT PRINTER!!!!!

    This is a great printer

The Kodak perfect picture program included in the software is truely spectacular. You can produce pictures matching the quality of Kodak Labs with little or no effort. The printing features and fax features are trouble free and work very well. With the cost of the ink for B&W and color being very low this has to be one of the lowest cost methods of producing prints. In the past I have had problems with Kodak printer software as it was not very compatible with Microsoft, but this time the installation and operability was very smooth. The features offered are very easy to use and maybe too easy to use as it is easy to look too hard for the features that are already built into the operating system. You can download the instruction book and if there were one complaint it would be that the instruction book is not provided in hard copy with the printer. There are so many features available on this printer that a hard copy instruction book would be helpful.

Outstanding if the printhead worked right.

    Posted .

I love this printer, its cheap, easy to use, and does a great job. My only complaint about the machine was as I was setting it up the status screen gave me an error message that directed me to contact technical support. It was a very quick fix, I was directed to remove the ink, remove the printhead, reinstall the printhead and turn the power off for a few minutes. When I turned the machine back on everything worked. Having that bit of troubleshooting information available in an owner's manual would have made me give it 5 stars.

    Great machine for a budget

    Posted .

I have owned this machine for almost a year now. I love it. I print alot of items online and would go thru a lot of ink so I bought the machine because the ink was so reasonable. What I did not know is the photo quality is almost as good as my epson picturemate flash and it gave me a variety of sizes to print the photos in. On top of that the ink is cheaper and if I buy the ink at best buy, I get a free ream of paper when I buy 2 inks. When I had trouble scanning into my computer, customer service was there to walk me thru the steps to resolve the problem. there was nothing wrong with the machine, it just needed to be unconnected and connected again. Unless speed is what you need, this is a great machine. My old Brother was much faster at printing but almost double the price for ink so it was a good trade off for me...and I now have a way to do larger photos with great quality at home.

    Software glitch

    Posted .

This printer came with software for a Logitech web cam instead of the printer. The label on the CD says it's for the 5500 but it's not. Software installation took almost 3 hours after I downloaded it from the internet. It took a total of almost 4 hours to get it ready to print the first page. I have not tried faxing or scanning yet. The COPY button is always lit up and the cancel button doesn't work.

    Ok printer

    Posted .

This is one of the best printers that I have ever owned. But about three weeks after I got it the printer stopped printing black ink. So I would clean the printhead in the thing and it would work for a day or two. Then the printhead stopped printing black. So I called kodak and they said that they would send free ones out for any printers made from feb. of 07 - march of 08. But besides this problem this is a great printer.

    So disappointing - FAX problems

    Posted .

I was introduced to the 5500 sometime in June when I met a Kodak rep. in the Best Buy store where I usually shop. We already had a decent (HP) photo printer, but was tired of paying the high cost of ink cartridges and we needed a fax so this new machine sounded great to me. After checking the reviews online I decided to take the plunge and now wonder if I made the right choice. The first machine gave me problems during the initial setup and Kodak instructed me to return it to Best Buy for an exchange. What a pain, but when I finally got the 2nd one home all seemed to go well until I tried using it with my Kodak Easyshare camera software. After finally getting that resolved, there was a problem getting the fax to work properly - I could send, but it wouldn't receive in the auto mode. I've called Kodak on each occasion and received help, but only after hours on the phone. Bottom line - the fax still doesn't work the way it's suppose to. All the other features of the machine work great, especially the photo quality and, after printing out tons of vacation photos, I'm still on my original color ink cartridge.

    So Far So Good

    Posted .

I was nervous about this printer after reading all of the negetive reviews, but decided to try it anyways. Well, so far so good. I did receive the "print head error" message when I first started set-up, but I removed the ink cartridges, pressed on the print-head, and retryed it and it worked fine ever since. The different trays for photos and paper are great, since you don't have to remove one to use the other. I've also used it to make copies, which turned out great. The top feeder works perfectly, and is much easier than using the flat scanner bed when copying multiple pages. Unless I start having trouble with it, I am happy with this printer and looking forward to saving money on ink!

Good Product at a good price

    Posted .

Having been associated with the Best Buy computer department for some time now, I would like to think that I have pretty good feel for the quality of products such as this printer based upon the floor display behaviors and the number of printers of each model that get returned. With that in mind, it was my observation that this particular printer was doing very well in the market so I decided to try one. Setup was very simple and my printer has consistently produced high quality photos/scans/documents. One of the pictures that was printed off of this printer ended up being an award winner at a state photo competition. Also this printer came with the duplexing attachment that is normally a special order item! The cost of the ink makes this very attractive as it practically buys itself within a year when comparing ink prices with that of any competing brand. Between the competitive cost of ink and the proven durability of this printer, it almost seems like a no-brainer for anyone looking to get a sturdy all-in-one for home or office use at a wallet-friendly price.
