Won't ever buy Kodak products again!

I bought this camera (pink colored) from a local store. When I opened the camera it didn't work correctly and instead of just trying to return it to the store I followed the instructions inside the package stating that I shouldn't return the camera to the store and instead should contact Kodak support. HUGE MISTAKE! I was directed to send the camera to a repair facility (at my own cost I might add) and told they would fix it and send it back. I received a letter from the repair facility stating that they couldn't fix the camera and that Kodak would send me a replacement camera. Kodak indeed sent me a different camera; one that was refurbished and a different color. I specifically bought the camera because it was pink as I already have a silver one. I called Kodak customer service which was another joke. I could barely hear or understand the people. In addition, I was told that they had no pink in the C813 so I was out of luck. They told me the had a cheaper model C713 in pink that they could send me instead. I asked for a refund since this isn't what I had originally purchased and they told me they couldn't do that, that only the store I had purchased it from could've provided me with a refund but since I followed their instructions (sending the camera in for repair), I no longer have the original camera to return in order to get a refund!!!! I looked on this website for a refurbished C813 in pink and what do you know, they have one!! When I pointed this out to the guy on the phone, he told me that this website and the warehouse where they were sending my replacement from were two different entities and therefore I still couldn't get the camera I wanted. So in the end, my options were to either keep the silver one that I didn't want or suck it up and take the cheaper one in pink. I really wanted a pink one, so I'm out the $10 price difference, the difference in camera features and the original cost of shipping the camera for repair. They did arrange for UPS to pick up the old camera at their expense, after I told them I wasn't paying to return a second camera. I guess the moral of my story is that if you buy a camera that doesn't work, insist that the store you bought it from take it back; DO NOT send it to Kodak for repair because who knows what you'll end up with after all is said and done!!

    Below average camera

Q: Why do we need to buy a camera? A: To capture some good moments of our life in its true color and with clarity. This camera failed miserably on that front. Out door shots are okay but indoor pictures are simply horrible. I bought this camera to gift my brother as it was cheap ( fit into $99.00 with camera bag/charger). You may say, I got so many things in 99 still I am complaining, Yes the pictures quality is not acceptable. I don't look for lots of features nor 100000 Mega pixels in general purpose camera as long as the picture quality is good. If the picture itself is dark and having lots of grain, what to do with 8.2MP? I am not sure how come 12 reviews rate it at level 4. I bought this camera going with customer review, as I did not find a detail review in CNET.com. I am using cannon A610 for general purpose shooting and Nikon D70 for my hobby. My eyes have seen great pictures from both these cameras. I am not saying it should stand against D70 but should match the A610 picture quality up to 90%. If I compare it with A610, its picture quality stands at 70% of that of A610. I also found following drawback in the camera - The viewfinder/LCD is misleading. While taking/reviewing picture the quality (brightness and clarity) what you see in the LCD, is lost when you transfer to your computer. - I tried to get rid of the darkness by increasing the exposure from 0.0 (default setting) to max +2.0. Still it did not improve the picture quality that much. Here also there is a drawback, all your settings are lost when the camera is switched off/on again (that's ridiculous). - This is not a 10X zoom camera that it needs image stabilizer. But they have provided an image stabilizer mode. If you take pictures in AUTO mode (mode largely used by common man), even in bright day light (with ISO setting as AUTO) with small vibration of your hand (which you can't avoid unless until you use/carry tripod with your camera for every single shots), the picture is susceptible to blurriness. Tips for who have already suffering with it picture quality after buying this camera: If you want to improve quality (the bright ness) then you have to use photo editing S/W or use KODAK PERFECT TOUCH for each pictures. If you have returned from a long trip, you may have to go through all 300 odd pictures (rough estimate) and apply Kodak Perfect Touch through camera one after another. With this camera they should apply this feature to all pictures by default (suggestion for future improvement to KODAK). Hope my review may help you to make a better camera buying judgement.

    Great Junk Camera

Let me start by saying this is a cheap, low quality camera, but is by far the best sub $100 camera I have used. I have gone thru 7 digital cameras in 6 years, mostly in the $200 range and currently use a Canon SD750 and a Canon XSi DSLR, but I have borrowed or otherwise used a variety of low cost cameras. This camera was purchased for work to replace an ancient floppy disk camera and expectations were admittedly low for a camera that came in a plastic clamshell package. I have only used the camera for a few days, but have noticed a few common issues. Pros [+] Images have minimal digital noise leading to a clean (but not crisp) looking image [+] Camera is not nearly as slow as some reviews indicate. After the standard half press of the shutter release to focus, pictures are taken immediately upon a full press. [+] LCD is better than many, but like always, is difficult to see clearly in direct sunlight. Cons [-] Images are very soft, indicating a blur setting has been used to hide the grainy images produced by the sensor [-] Color reproduction is generally poor. This is usually because the auto White Balance is poor in general and simply can not cope with mixed lighting at all. This can be corrected, but even when white is white, colors are muted. [-] Build quality is poor, but should last at least a few years of gentle use [-] Focus can be a bit touchy. Low resolution LCD and “soft” images compound the problems [-] No onboard control of Image settings other than resolution [-] Flash is poorly diffused, leading to worse than average bright spots With all the cons, this is still a $100 camera and gets the job done in a pinch. If I was spending my money, I would spring for the slightly more expensive (but often lower resolution) models. Bottom Line, don’t expect traditional 8Mp performance, or great color saturation, but if you can correct for the white balance problems in software and absolutely can’t spend $130+, this camera may be for you.

I purchased this because of the shutter speed (1/2 sec. max.) and the optical zoom. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a camera with an insane amount of mega pixels, because really, more than 6 MP isn't needed unless you plan on printing any picture bigger than an 8' x 10'. It isn't all about the mega pixels. I'm expecting a new baby soon, and my old camera took up to 8 seconds to take a picture, and thats just too long, I needed something that would get my shots fast. So, I decided to go with this one. Its a Kodak, so, the lens is great. Takes wonderful, crisp clear pictures...they tend to look a bit blurry on the screen, but once you get them on your computer or print them out, they are wonderful. I love the image stabilizer, my old camera didn't have that feature. The scene modes really come in handy and help to make sure you don't miss the shot. (I took a picture of a ceiling fan on high in 'sport' mode to see how well it did, and it wasn't the slightest bit blurry) You actually can see the LCD screen in most lights, thats a nice thing. Has on camera editing, and it helps you determine if the picture will make a clear print. The software that comes with it isn't bad, but I still use a professional editing software. You can also choose to take pictures in a lower mega pixel setting, which is good for conserving battery life and memory. A picture taken at five mega pixels is going to give you a great 4'x6' print. And even lower is good for internet sharing. So, that's a feature to consider as a big plus. If you want to get a camera that will ensure you always get the shot you want in the quality you need, this is definitely a great buy. You really can't beat it. But, ohh, yeah, buy some rechargeable batteries, your gonna need them. This thing eats through batteries like nothing else. And grab a memory card, too!!

PROS: [+} Very good pictures [+} Captures in HD resolution for 16:9 enhanced HDTV's [+] Decent startup time, fast control response and silent operation. [+] Easy to use with preset scene modes and dedicated Macro mode [+] Captures pictures upto 1250 ISO for those truly dark long exposure shoots [+] Better LCD preview than my other Fujifilm Finepix A900 9MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom reviewed here. [+] Takes SD/SDHC upto Patriot PSF8GSDHC6 8GB Class6 Secured Digital SDHC Card without any firmware updates! CONS: [-] A picture when magnified looks grainier than my other FujiFlim Fine Pix A900 with side by side comparison of the same subject in focus. [-] A picture when compared with other cameras of this price range looks slightly overexposed but with exposure compensation we can deal with that issue. [-] A lot of plastic all around, No optical View Finder [-] Uses only two AA Batteries hence battery life is average, better buy High Capacity NiMH rechargeable and carry a set just in case you need them. [-] The Movies are made in *.MOV which can be seen only with ITUNES or QuickTime application unlike industry standard *.AVI files [-] 640x480 is at 15frames/sec 320x480 is at 30frames/sec with audio. [-] Slightly bigger when compared to today's world of miniature Digital camera products. Kodak EasyShare C813 8.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom is a product with mixed bags of goodies and some quirks, however for a casual user none of the cons mentioned above does really matter if you can find this camera for a bargain price! Go get it!

The camera is for my daughters 6th Birthday and it was cute so I bought it for her. She has had it in her hands for 1 day only and all while with me so I saw that it was not being abused and thrown around or mishandled in any way. She is gentle with my iPhone and my other electronic things we own. Anways, It just up and quit. Checked the Kodak batteries and they are 100 percent still full. Press the ON button and I get nothing. Other then that for people who don't have this problem... I noticed that the flash on the auto mode did not really flash when it needed to. I took a picture of her in front of the Christmas tree with the Christmas lights on and once it flashed and the other where all I said was can you smile this time for me and she did and it came out dark because the flash decided that all of a sudden the lighting conditions are better so no flash. So in conclusion, now I really know why I have always stuck with SONY but for a 6 year old I didn't want to dish out $200 to $300 bucks for a Sony. I hate to say it, but that saying is so true....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I'll be back at Best Buy today to buy a Sony.

i bought this camera for my 2.5 year old daughter for christmas because i wanted her to be able to take decent pictures. i looked in to the kids cameras with the weird shapes. they seemed fine except picture quality was lacking. so i went with the c813. my daughter started taking pics on christmas morning. then we got in the car and drove to the grandparents. and when we got there i went to turn on the camera and transfer pictures off to make room for more photos and the camera would not turn on. i tried several different working batteries and still nothing. i was hoping i could hide the camera till i we got home several days later so my daughter did not have to know that the camera was broken but tonight she asked to use her camera. "you know the my new pink camera that santa brought me". how do you tell a toddler that the camera santa brought her is now broken. back to best buy tomorrow to return it. i just can't trust a new version of this camera to my daughter when it has failed me and apparently many others.

I wasn't originally going to get this camera, but the camera's were pretty much wiped out. This is the best quality you are ever going to find for seventy bucks. I am thrilled!! I use this camera so much. I wasn't aware of the software/CD that comes with it and that is the greatest!! You can edit and change pictures that you didn't even take on the camera. It also has so many features like make your pictures into cartoons or coloring book pages!! You can also put an address book into your camera and organize completely on your computer by making all kinds of folders and putting certain pictures into favorites. The batteries that come with it are cheap though, and only lasted the first day I used it.. so I would recommend getting some batteries!! :) This is the best camera ever!! And its cute in pink!!!

I have had experience with a few of these cameras. I have gone through three of them in the past year. This camera is great for the first month or so. BUT, the buttons start to do its own thing like, the on and off button starts flickering the screen. The controls to turn it to either camcorder or whatever flickers too and my first time with this camera the controls stopped working completely. The picture quality does it's own thing too. The flash is terrible in dim light. It looks grainy and not good. But then, sometimes it looks absolutely great. The battery life is SO SHORT! I swear i go through about 4-8 a day. I would recommend this camera to someone who likes a camera with a mind of its own! Honestly, I'm fed up this camera.

I own a Nikon 5.0 MP, a Fuji 4.1 and a Canon I5IS 8.0. This point and shoot camera has horrible picture quality. My lowest MP rating, the Fuji, is far superior to this. It does not come close to the Nikon or Canon. Night quality is terrible, video choppy. I bought it for my wife thinking it would be easy-take and easy-share. The Canon software is excellent. With this camera's CD software it is harder to navigate, difficult and far more time consuming on the downloads. Overall, I recommend Canon or Nikon, especially a similarly priced canon with maybe a lower resolution. I recently sold a 3.1 MP Olympus that I bought refurbed, it took FAR better pictures. I got it on sale and will keep it but overall, NO MORE KODAK FOR ME, EVER!

I purchased 2 kodack cameras right after Thankgiving. After taking about a dozen pictures with each camera they both malfunctioned and would not turn on. I returned it to Best Buy and they replaced one a similair Kodak Model while I decided to upgrade the other to a 10 megapixel kodak camera. I was disgusted when both cameras had the exact same problem on christmas morning when I wanted to take pictures of the kids opening their gifts. I took both cameras back to best buy and exchanged them for Nikons. I'll will never purchase another kodak product. I've spent more time exchanging defective cameras than I have taking pictures. I'll let you know how well I make out with the Nikons !

I liked this camera the first few months, it was cool. I added jewls to it and I thought it was beautiful. After the few months I got a little mad at this camera. The camera is way to big to fit in a case. I went threw 5 cases and didn't fit. I found a case though, pink case with pull-string. Easy to carry. I also love making videos, and I could only hear them when put on the Wii device or a computer. That didn't satisfy me. I like revewing on my camera. A few months after I got it, it broke. The lens jammed. So I looked into a slimmer camera and got a COOLPIX. Goes to show, ask a worker which case the camera takes, and if videos have sound.

I just got this camera for Christamas from my parents and I love the camera! I just went to NYC and all the pictures came out great! They give you a software where u can download ur pictures to ur computer and they come out just as you took them! The only thing i dont like is when u take pics in a very lighted room they come out dark. But when u take the pics in a dark room they come out bright. It also has no adio unless u download it on ur computer. Also it will only take 10 pictures but if u get the cheap 2GB memory card you will get over 1,000 pics! This cameras awesome and i think everyone should have it!

I got this as a christmas present from my fiance last christmas(2007) and it worked great for the first few months. After those first few months it didnt work so great and now when I turn it on i have a message that says lens error and some numbers. The lens either doesnt open all the way and recloses or it opens most the way and then stays that way the screen is on but there is no back light. My fiance didnt get the warranty with it. I dont blame him Ive never had such terrible luck with a camera but i know that next time I buy one Im getting a warranty and not getting the same camera!

It's an okay camera, but there's better ones out there. I have one of these and I took it to a concert. I also took 3 pairs of batteries, which all died. When you take a video and view it on the camera, there's no sound. When I put my concert videos on the computer, I realized that while I was singing, you can hardly hear what the music is, so it has poor video sound, too. I would say that the only good things about this camera is that it's a good gift for a younger child, because it's easy to use, the flash isn't TOO bright, and that MINE is signed by B. Reith!! :)
