    Poor picture quality for 14MP

My wife and I wanted to purchase a sleek camera with a zoom and saved a few bucks. After looking over the cameras we decided on the Kodak. The first thing we noticed was that the box looked already opened, like it had been repackaged. This worried me but we decided to give it a try. We took pictures of flowers and some horses with and without zoom. The pictures looked great on the camera's LCD screen, but then we put the pictures on the computer. At the native resolution of the pictures (zoom at 100%), the quality is terrible. There are no crisp edges, no detail, only blotches of color like a monet painting. I believed this to be the compression that the camera uses to squeeze as many pictures as possible on the SD card, but there was no option to change the compression setting. In bright light the LCD screen turns bright purple, which is a big distraction, but this didn't affect the picture quality. We exchanged the camera for another of the same, thinking that maybe it was just the particular camera. Unfortunately the same blotchy quality remained. After doing more research, we exchanged the Kodak for a Sony Cyber-shot H55. This camera is great! The quality of the pictures, even zoomed in on the computer, is crisp with so much detail. We should have started with this camera. In short, the Kodak will be a good camera for someone who doesn't care about great picture quality and wants an easy to use camera. For us, it was just lackluster.

Looking for a great slim "Point & Shoot" camera with various scene options, with the ability to take video. This camera hits the mark! Several SCN modes which help you take a great shot just about anywhere!! More features than I'll ever use!

I've had Kodak film and digital cameras for years and never steered away from them because of their great quality and ease of use cameras until i purchased this Kodak M580. I purchased this camera about 1 months before a trip to Las Vegas and because of my trust in Kodak i put the camera away for my trip and continued using my older Kodak camera ( not a smart idea on my part ). Trip came and the M580 came out with horrible grainy, blurry and out of focus pictures no matter what i did ! I tried different setting, tripod and even letting someone else take the pictures and nothing. I would say 7 out of every 10 pictures were unusable, which is odd because id never had a problem with a Kodak camera. I figured it to be defective and switched it out for another one of the same model and it to gave me the same results. So having had this bad experience with Kodak i decided to finally move on from them and i would SUGGEST YOU DO NOT BUY KODAK till they bring back the quality they once had.

I had two Kodak M580s, each for one day. The first took great pics...when it worked. Within about one hour, the lens assembly stopped retracting all the way when trying to power it off, so it went back. Camera #2 had some serious noise issues appearing on every picture, regardless of lighting conditions. It looked like a green, blue and red snow storm all over the picture. I thought it was something about the LCD screen until I transferred the pics to my PC. They showed up there too. So it went back. I didn't want to push my luck with a 3rd camera and have it die a day after the warranty ran out, so I switched to a Sony DSC-H55 (see my review) and haven't looked back. Kodak needs to work on their quality control a little bit. Needless to say, I won't be recommending the M580 to anyone I know right now. I will also say that the menu and options were a little too basic for me, but I'm used to the many options that Canon allows you to customize, so my expectations were a little high. Buyer beware.

Overall I could rate this camera very high(IF IT WORKED)...I got this camera for my family vacation in June and it Worked AMAZING!!! I loved how easy to use...portable...GREAT pics! However.... a few days before vacation was over it stopped working (Would NOT turn on). I returned it to the store (had a two year warrenty) and they ordered me a new one and i got it a few days later. Took it home .... the pic quality was awful!!! Then one day it said " View obstructed, remove lens cap"......um! this camera has no lens cap!!! And then it wouldnt turn off! SO....I took it back again!!! I choose not to get it replaced and paid a little bit more for a Cannon Power shot SX120....its baulky but i have no complaints. great! i repeat GREAT!! pic quality and zoom. Video is amazing also. ...the Kodak is great if u dont want it to work when u need it and if u like to make frequent trips to the store for returns :)

My first digital camera was a Kodak, when that one broke I went to a Sony only to be disappointed, so for my next camera i went back to Kodak and got this one. I am thoroughly impressed with this camera! The picture quality is excellent, I love the lens it uses. The camera is very compact and the 14 mega pixels is more than I need, and the zoom works great. The different scenes are fantastic, it has something for every type of shot I want. My favorite is the panoramic shot, It looks awesome and is really easy to use. This camera is also very advanced, I love the face detection and the camera's ability to detect and tag faces, I also appreciate the fact you can switch between a red eye pre-flash or red eye digital correction. Overall I love this camera, and I am very glad I switched back to Kodak!

We had our first digital Kodak camera, CX7430, for almost 4 years, it was a great camera for only 4.0MP. We then bought a M1033, which we loved. It took great pictures and video, but ended up only lasting a year and a half. It stopped working and was too expensive to repair. So we bought this M580, and ended up getting our money back. The first one I had, had bad pixels on the view screen. It took terrible, blurry pictures. Also, had a hard time using the auto focus with room lighting. It took great pictures out in the sunlight. I decided to take it back and figured the first problem was a fluke, so I decided to try another one of the same model. It had the same problems!!! It seemed like a great buy, with lots of features for a low price, but it was just a terrrible experience and I probably will not buy another KODAK camera.

I was heading down south when I realized I forgot my camera. I went to a N.C. Best Buy and within a half hour came out with this camera. The pictures look great (very clear and sharp) and I love how compact it is. This camera has alot of great features (Burst Mode, red eye correction just to name a few). This camera also has HD Video and the clarity blows my Camcorder out of the water. It is replacing another Kodak camera which was only 4mp and was a bit bulky. I like the 3" lcd screen, my old one was 1 1/2" and had a viewfinder.

This brnad new Kodak M580 offers 8x Optical zoom, and has one of the best lenes elements on a consumer digital camera. HD Video, Share app, powerful flash that fills entire subject, and a body that fits the hand very well. In sunlight in particular, this new Kodak camera can compete with the best $200-$300 cameras from Japan! That poster from Huntington Beach, CA review is strange, cause the Kodak M580 was only released on April 10th! The Sony mention is by far, inferior to this Kodak Camera.

    Decent Pics, When it Worked

I bought the M580 to replace an old Kodak DX6490 4 megapixel model that I've used for 10 years and loved and to supplement my SLR. Took the M580 to Orlando for vacation and it took a few good pics and then stopped working. Maybe it was the humidity, but there's no excuse for the camera not powering on. When it decided to work again, the outdoor sunny pics were good quality, but not great. Indoor flash pics were not as good as my old Kodak. I can't recommend this camera even though I'm a fan of Kodak. I'm returning it and will choose a Canon to match my SLR.

This is easy to use and takes outstanding pictures and video. I have SLR cameras and this one is far above the rest. The German lens and image stabilization are a real plus. The smart capture feature is unique and a great new addition. I like being able to zoom while taking a video. Panorama stitch mode is fun to use. I love this Kodak camera.

This was my first digital camera and was recommended by 2 few friends. It was very basic and easy to use. My only problem was when using outdoors on a sunny day I couldn't see anything on the LCD screen except a reflection of myself. It turned out that both of my friends had older versions of the EasyShare which also had viewfinders, but the newer version does not. I returned the camera and got a Canon with a movable LCD screen and a viewfinder.

I read others comments before I purchase this camera and I should have heeded their advice. I bought the camera to take on a cruise, I made every effort to get a clear pictures taken, it just wouldn’t happen. I’m totally disgusted with this purchase and will be returning the camera. I will stick to Olympus, bought two in the past and both worked fine. Don’t waste your money and time.

    Batteries

Left in the camera, the battery goes dead in less than 3 days, have to make sure it's charged each time before you use it. My other Kodak cameras never had this problem. Also have to reset the time & date each time the battery dies. If you take the battery out, it stays up, so it's not the battery.

The camera works very well. Sharp pictures and very little blurs. The only disappointment I had was that the commercial made it appear that the camera didn't have to be connected to a PC to load to wherever the user wanted to load it, which you do have to do once you've installed the software.

Kodak cameras are typically the easiest cameras to operate. The M580 one is no different. However, the only problem I notced recently is that the LCD screen discolors when trying to calibrate the correct exposure. The picture quality is fine, though.
