    UNNEEDED HEADACHE

I purchased the Kodak ESP 7 printer. I first want to add that I am tech savy. I'm not out of touch with technology. I'm 28 and very dissatisfied. I was very excited about this purchase. I took it home and unpacked it, went through getting it set up, and the problems began. I tried to solve the problem myself by dealing with the situation as well as going online and doing some computer changes. I tried downloading the things I was told to. After about 3 hours of dealing with this, I called customer service. My wait time was 45 min. That started me off on a bad foot, but I also understand that sometimes that may happen. Once I did get onto the phone with someone, she kept putting me on hold, then coming back with an answer. When I asked another question, she would put me on hold and then come back after some time. One time specifically, she put me on hold for 5 min. She told me at one point that I needed to download another program. I did that and it worked. Then I tried printing and it printed poor quality pictures. I thought that it might be the ink so I printed a couple more. Same problem. So I let it set for a little bit and tried again. This time... I had the same problen that I had a the beginning. After being on the phone with her for 1 hr 30 min. I got off of the phone, packed up the printer, took it back to the store, purchased the other brand and computer I was looking at, had no problems getting this product to work and have had no problems with it what-so-ever. This experiance has pushed me to inform others of my horrible experience and to write a review with Best Buy. I do not feel that if you have a product that does not work corretly and you much download other products to get your service to run, include that in your instructions or online service. I had to get bonjour and it didn't tell me that online or in the manual/instructions. Kodak should do more testing with its products before sending it to market. I will never purchase a Kodak product again.

And AiO Printer that comes with headaches

    Posted
    Ultramilkwai

I owned this type of printer for almost a year (got it Oct. 21st, 2008) I had to call Kodak and replace it twice. And I would have to say avoid this printer. Although the print quality is very good (I don't print too many pictures, but the pictures usually are excellent quality when I do), there are a lot of downsides to this printer. I believe saying this printer is an invitation to many headaches is the best way to put it. First of all, it takes forever to print! Don't be deceived by being able to print up to 32 ppm like I did. Maybe if you try to print out about 500 pages at once, it might hit that number. This printer takes FAR too long to set up before printing. When I hit print, the printer takes a good minute to set up before it actually prints and even when it starts prints a regular black document, it'll take about 4 seconds per pieces of paper on average. Secondly, this printer is INCREDIBLY loud. Let's just say the family living on the floor below us were not too pleased when I have this printer printing at 11 at night. Thirdly, this printer have paper jams like there is no tomorrow. No joke, and once the problem was so severe that I had to call Kodak and have them send me another printer. Yes, the paper literally jammed and could not be removed even when following the steps on their website on how to remove the paper jam. I don't know how it happened, it just did. As stated above, this is my 3rd Kodak ESP7. The first one broke down after 7 months of use because of the severe paper jam. The second one simply broke down and would not function properly anymore. It would "try" to print. And I ended up with half of a document or a blank sheet of paper (yes I replaced the printhead too). I recommend you to stay away from this printer. It's just a headache unless you like speaking with Kodak technicians. They're very friendly.

I WOULD NOT "EVER" RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER

II WOULD NOT "EVER" RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER TO A STUDENT OR ANYONE WHO DOESN"T USE THEIR PRINTER ALMOST EVERYDAY! I purchased this product from BB in CA about 2 months ago. I have had to call Kodak at least 4 times w/o any resolution over the WiFi connectivity issues; however I troublshooted it myself and found that if your printer IP address is static set for a lower integer than your computer's IP then everything will be fine; otherwise it's a never ending Troubleshoot of off/on procedures until you accidently make that happen. The ink is "special" because according to a Kodak representative it is made out of a pigment that "requires" regular use or it will dry out. In my experience I have already had to buy replacement ink and I have barely printed out 50 or so pages due to this "drying out". Some value, huh? Also, apparently , due to irregular use, the printhead itself has this pigment "dry" on it and cause printing isues. I am currently awaiting a printhead replacement in order to resovle this issue. Not only that but because of numerous "print troubleshoots" my ink levels on my second cartridges are already at 30/25%. Kodak has adopted a new policy "no matter what they will not give out printer ink to customers reguarding mechanical issues", but the representative was happy to offer me some color photo paper for my trouble. Remember I have only had this printer for 2 months. If you are a print happy photo loving fool, then this is the printer for you, otherwise I'd suggest anything from the HP PSC family as that is going to be my fallback printer. I have had the PSC1600 for a couple YEARS now and the only thing wrong with it is my daughter broke the print catch tray off of it. It doesn't have Wifi so I'll be back to cables, but at least I can take a vacation w/o having to buy more ink.

    Not worth it

    Wheezie

We were pretty disappointed with this printer, right from go. Installing from the CD is pretty much a waste of time - if you do buy this printer, choose the option to install from Kodak's website (with the "newest" updates or whatever). If you're running it wireless, you will still need a USB connector to get "updates", which are needed to make the printer work properly (and you have to buy the USB cable separately, so be forewarned). The biggest problem we had with it was when trying to print 5.5 x 8.5 - it would print a few just fine, then suddenly trigger a Wrong Paper SIze error. After several attempts to troubleshoot the problem ourselves (using Kodak's guide), we spent over 2 hours online with tech support (since they don't give you a phone number at all). They basically cut and pasted from the troubleshooting guide (so that was useless) and instructed us to practically dis-assemble the whole printer to "clean the rollers" - this after only having used the printer for 20 to 30 documents and it being less than a month old. We were told to keep the printer free of dust, debris, heat, sun, basically the thing needs to be in a hermetically sealed case for it to function properly. After cleaning the rollers, we got about 5 more pages printed and the problem started again. We returned it and exchanged for the less expensive HP C4795. After printing a few of our smaller sized pages on the HP, we can tell that the color on the Kodak was sub-par. Shocking, since you'd think the print quality, at the very least, would be superior. Thumbs down on this one - it's not worth the supposed savings in ink. Not by a long shot.

    What a pain!

After reading mostly positive reviews,I bought this printer in January 2009. Had to search several weeks, every BB in the greater PHX area, to find one. Live full time in a 5th wheel RV so wanted to eliminate separate scanner and printer. The first problem was the owner's manual was only in French. The last print job of my old printer was to print out the owner's manual in English from the Kodak web site. Installation took all afternoon, but was fianlly accomplished using a USB cord. The WIFI set up was too complicated. Initially, the print quality and use of cartridges was excellent. Now, however, I am constantly running the maintenance features just to get it to print. Even after printing several pages in a day, it will suddenly put out blank pages and then hours and ink are wasted trying to get it to print again. I print nearly every day, but still have this all too prevelant problem. Also, when printing test pages after trying all the other maintenance functions, it will quit before completing the page. Sometimes lifting the top of the unit will make it start up and eject the paper. Sometimes, I have to pull the power plug to get it to reset. It is a big pain overall. I am on my 4th set of cartridges already. I used to go 6 months or more on my old HP with the same volume of printing. I don't usually print 4x6 photos, but because it is easy on this printer with the 2 trays, and I got a good deal on Kodak 4x6 paper, I have printed a lot of these photos and they do come out well. Don't buy this printer unless you have a high tolerance for frustration and a lot of time to mess around with it.

    Big Disappointment

I was very excited about purchasing this printer for several reasons. The wireless capability, ink saving feature and low replacement ink costs. I should have known trouble was on the horizon when I took the printer out of the box and only had instructions in FRENCH. Luckily, I have installed a few printers before so this didn't concern me so much. The install and set up went fairly smoothly. The first thing that surprised me was how loud the printer was. I've had HP's and a Dell printer and they were never this loud. Again, I could get past this since printers generally make noise anyway. So I proceeded to print my first document. Imagine my surprise when the paper came out blank. I then decided since it was a first use to clean the printhead. I reprinted and everything appeared fine. I was satisfied with the quality. I had only printed a couple pages on the first day I had the printer. On the second day, I went back to do some additional document printing. Imagine my surprise again when the printer would not print. Blank pages again. This is basically the theme. Everytime the printer sits idle I have to clean the print head. I have spent more time calling Kodak only to be told to clean the printhead, take the ink cartridges out or the printhead out and put them back in. At this point I am almost out of ink because I have mostly printed calibration pages or test pages after performing all these steps. Talk about a total disapointment. I had high hopes for the printer. I will be returning the printer to the store....it's more trouble than it's worth. I am going back to HP!!

Poor quality printer - multiple problems.

Add me to the long list of reviewers who experienced multiple problems with this printer. 1) While it did connect to my wireless network easily, the printer would go into an idle state and not wake up when a print job was submitted, so I would have to power off/on every time I wanted to print. A firmware upgrade may have resolved this, but other problems occurred before I could get the upgrade. 2) After not printing for about a day, it did not print anything except a few orange splotches. Had to re-calibrate in order to get it to print. 3) Then, the infamous Paper Jam. No paper was in the printer, but it went into an eternal Paper Jam state. After spending time talking to a Kodak help-line employee from India about the firmware, I did not want to spend more time on the phone to resolve a phantom Paper Jam. I returned the printer 8 days after purchase and exchanged for an HP. The returns associate had seen many of these returned before for the Paper Jam problem. In my opinion, this printer is an embarassment to Kodak. I trusted their brand and was bamboozled by their low-cost ink marketing. I recommend no one purchase this printer. In addition to the problems listed above, the paper tray assembly is very flimsy and prone to breakage, and the paper capacity is very low. Print quality was OK but not as good as my older HP PhotoSmart. The best part of this experience was the quick, pain free exchange by my local Best Buy. Kudos to their return/exchange policy.

I went against my gut feeling and instead of purchasing the on sale model I originally went to the store for, I bought this Kodak ESP 7. Getting it home was the easy part. I managed to get it all set up, no cd or black ink in the box. I thought, it happens, and proceeded to download the drivers and software from the kodak website. I put the print head and color cartridge into the printer and then had to open the toners I had purchased to replace the missing black from the box. After this was done the printer told me my color cartridge was empty. So, I opened my purchased color toner to replace that. After printing my test page I was alarmed to see it print in yellow only and very faded. After trying to fix the problem by cleaning the print head via the printer's prompts to do so, it then told me that it couldn't read my print head. I then called Kodak and they were very helpful, but I couldn't wait for a new one to be shipped to me. Then I read the reviews online and seen this was a recurring, long standing problem with this brand of printers. My suggesstion to other customers reading this: pick another brand. After only printing 3 test pages my ink level was already lower than I had started with, which leads me to believe the low cost ink also lasts half the time. My time is just as valuable as my money and running to the store twice as often is more costly to me.

Bought ESP7 unit last week, Setup on Friday (networked to 3 PC's & 1 MAC). Downloaded & installed latest firmware & drivers). Everything seems ok. Saturday did not use. Sunday would not make a COPY let alone a print. Cycled unit on/off - no joy. Removed & reinstalled print head & cartridges - no joy. Ran Maintenance function - no joy. Unit suddenly decided to work - WOW - its magic! Monday called Kodak support (India ?) - was told to run head cleaning (after 1 day of use ?????) - BS no help (case # 2895523). Monday night - worked ok. Tuesday night - needed a COPY (not a print) - would not work. Reconnected 4 year old HP PSC1610 and got copy. ESP 7 is boxed up for ASAP for return to BestBuy. Also noted only made about 10-12 pages of text on ESP7 (in draft mode) and ink levels already showed 1/2 down. Same call to India(?) confirmed full- level cartridges are supplied NOT starter cartridges. If this is true I would be replacing ink every other week - old HP went about 3 months. Also when unit would print noticed print font size and letter darkness/thickness would vary cyclically throughout document. Kodak - cheap ink is a great idea but useless if your unit is not reliable - your unit would not even make a COPY on 2 out of 4 days (Comparison - In 4 years my old HP never missed 1 time). BestBuy- I will be returning this ESP7 - recommend you drop until Kodak gets it right.

In less then one months time since I bought this printer, I have had to replace both ink cartridges. I made a total of 5 copies with the thing. I have not even attempted to print a photo with it. I have managed to print 4 pages in one months time that actually came out clear, defined, neat and had everything on the page. The rest of the time I have wasted more then 30 pages of paper that have little parts of what was supposed to be printed on it. If I tried to print a page that had color and black in it, the color would come out faded and the black would not print at all. If I printed it as simply black and white then I would lose all the color and still not get a decent black ink print on the page. What good is a color printer that can't print all colors, including black, especially when black is one of the inks that comes in the color cartridge? I could live with having to manually put each and every part of the software in the trusted group of my Internet Security program just to get the system to recognize the printer, even though at first there was never an issue. I couldn't live with spending as much as I did on this printer and just not have it work. I for one am sending this back to the recycling bin and getting a real printer, one that actually does what its supposed to and that's actually print things when you want it to.

    KODAK ESP7--WHATEVER YOU'RE THINKING,DON'T DO IT!!

As a professional Graphic Designer and Artist, a good printer is important to my business. The KODAK Esp 7 !! IS NOT THAT PRINTER !! I've always had a pretty good track record with KODAK. Thier Point and Shoot camera is a mainstay in my tools. However after less than a week this printer began to give us troubles. At 1 month I began to wonder aloud whether or not I had made the right choice in my purchase. 6 months later I'm resigned to the fact that I'm headed back to Best Buy for a new printer. I'd rather eat the $160 I spent on the Esp7 rather than stroke out trying to get it rectified. I can't say one good thing about this printer. It's print is not what I'd expect from a company that's reknown for it's picture capture abilities. That fact that they ONLY RECOMMEND Kodak paper, hasn't escaped me. I buy really good paper. Why can't I use it in this printer. It's cuts on by itself occasionally. The inexspensive ink cartridges are cheap for a reason. They just don't last. And last but not least, Paper Jams and Error Messages are so frequent you'd figure this thing was built buy a couple'a first graders, and not by a company that has up until now been as respected as KODAK. Good thing for BEST BUY & HP though, looks like thier getting some business today.

Worst printer I have ever had to use...

    Manders33

This printer was just awful. We installed it (the only stress free part of owning it), and from then on had problems. It would act like it had a print job, and therefore, not let anyone print anything because it thought that it was busy. It would take a 1 page print job and spool it 5-10 times so that if we didn't cancel it fast enough we had multiple useless copies. We could not cancel anything using the cancel button on the printer, which would just make it freeze. Sometimes, the prints would only print color, even if the color cartridge was full, and sometimes it just printed a spotty mess (see pic). We had multiple paper jams, and even Kodak customer service and technical support could not troubleshoot our problems. When you go onto the website, the faq's show that these are common problems. I would NOT recommend this printer to ANYONE EVER under any circumstances!!!

I've had such a hard time with this unit. To start, yes, it was relatively easy to set up, so I appreciated that, but I haven’t been able to print a single page! I've had five tech support calls, and it still doesn't work! It still hasn’t printed a single color page and it now says that it is out of ink. So, they are telling me that I have to go out and buy a new color cartridge, because in trouble shooting the problem (cleaning the cartridge head several times) has led to it being out of ink! I think I’ve cleaned it no more than a maximum of 10 times – meaning that each cleaning uses at least 10% of the ink! Well, if that is the case, which seems implausible, then shouldn’t they have told me that to start with? (The response I got in asking where the ink may have gone is that it potentially “evaporated” – well, it’s not in the cartridge and not on any paper...) I shall continue to waste my life on the phone with tech support, money on a product that I have absolutely no confidence in, with time that I DON’T HAVE! Spend your money on something more reliable and save your self from any additional headaches!!

OK, I just HAD to have this printer after falling for the marketing and the trustworthy brand (I'm a photography buff and usually love Kodak). I've actually tried to get this thing working properly for several months (off an on, as I get frustrated and let it set for a couple weeks at a time). The printer did recognize my wireless router simply, but it was all downhill from there. The software would only install on one of my three computers (all of which run XP); even then, installation was incomplete, as I can't get the scanner to work properly. For the other systems, the installation software kept shutting down before completion, and updating online just made matters worse. After several attempts on both machines, I gave up on that portion. When using the one computer that does get along with the printer, the quality is still sketchy. The colors are "off" even after utilizing the calibration and test pages. I've chewed through much more ink than I ever did with my HP. The quality of basic text pages is lousy, including banding and streaks. I'm very disapplointed, to say the least.

After all the rave reviews I decided on the Kodak ESP 7. It looked like the feature set was well thought out. Problem was there were none available locally. I found stock at the Watertown, MA Best Buy and made my online purchase, then drove 70 miles one way to pick it up. I did not have this unit for more than 2 hours including travel because upon initial setup I was greeted with a PAPER JAM error. WHAA!! There's no paper in there! Hit the OK button ETC. Pretty much what the other reviewer did. NO GOOD! The service line got me to a nice lady in the Philippines but our connection was terrible. I tried a few things she suggested then thanked her for her time and promptly re-boxed the unit and returned to the local Best Buy. They were GREAT help and I got an HP4599 that actually works. It was quite a bit less $$ too. Not as many features but it has the basics that I wanted and the WiFi was easy to configure to my wacky security setup. In the end what started out as a LEMON was turned into Lemonade with the great support of the Best Buy associate. THANKS!

I bought this printer and had problems setting it up. Customer service advised me the installation cd that came with the printer was no good. I needed to go online and download program from there website. One day later the printer got an error message saying it had a "paper jam" but there was no paper jam. After another hour and a half with customer service they advised my print head was defective and would mail me a new one. After the new print head arrived and was installed, the printer worked for one more day and then started printing blank pages. At this point I was feed up and returned the unit to Best Buy. Thinking I had just had some bad luck with this one defective unit, I exchanged it for a new printer of the same exact model. When I got home I installed the printer and it worked for one day before I got an error message saying the computer and printer were not connecting and the print head was defective. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience and all the features in the world are no good if you can't get the unit to work!

Beware! Do Not Purchase This Printer. It does not save money in ink. Very Poor Quality, Very Unreliable Printer. Have had printer for 2-3 weeks now and have nothing but trouble with printheads. Have contacted Kodak Support but still having printhead issues. Have to clean printhead everytime to print out a simple black and white document. Went through the troubleshooting process with Kodak. Installed New Kodak Brand Print Cartridges and after cleaning printhead multiple times and calibrating printer and printing test page from the printer I now have 70% ink left. Kodak needs to get out of the printer business immediately. Kodak also instructed me to download and install an older version of firmware for the printer. I question their support? Why would anyone install old firmware is beyond me. If at all possible I will be getting a refund and purchasing another brand of printer. One that is more reliable. Do yourself a favor and save the frustration and purchase a different brand of printer.

The big problem with this printer is the print head. I do not use my printer every day and it would print blank pages each time it was not used for more then 24 hours. I went through all the ink in the printer trying to clean out the print head trying to print a total of about 15 pages - mostly recipes off the web - no pictures of any kind. The company has a very nice interactive service website and I had no trouble getting several replacements sent out but still had the same problem each time. That was $200 down the pipes and I replaced it with another brand that I am exceptionally happy with. But now I have a 200 dollar carpet weight I have to pay to recycle. Talk about adding insult to injury! Being disabled with a fixed income - this was a big financial blow. Even though it works nicely on all other fronts, I had to give it the lowest rating across the board because if it will not print then all those lovely buttons serve no purpose.

I owned this printer for 14 days. Had to clean the print heads 3 times due to printing failure. Everything would print for a few days then both black and color would fail until another head cleaning. This effectively eliminated any savings on ink price. Software was hard to install and tended to drop wireless connection. Printer would randomly 'malfunction' in the middle of printing a page, requiring reprinting. Its loud, but everyone says that. Its also slower than others. Currently I am still trying to remove the software from one of my computers. add remove programs doesn't work, the uninstall file kodak has doesn't work and the special removal program downloadable from kodak doesn't work. AND I can't manually remove the files. I bought a lexmark. same price, better prints, quite, duplexes, HAS A FAX. I'll deal with the ink cost, which wont be that much higher considering how often I was cleaning the Kodak esp 7 heads

This is a headache . Customer service sucks, had to replace 2 sets of printheads in the 1st year. needless to say when it went again I threw the stupid machine out!!!. To all prospective buyers......here's a few things to consider..... 1) Printheads clog up frequently. 2) Printheads only available after a lenghty 45 min check list with the so called support. By the way the support is from India....hard to understand us. 3)Ink is cheap.....but check the expiry.....!!!!! 4) here this...they said they would replce it but with a refurbish one....What the hell !!!! did I buy a refurb ? no... i bought a brand new one. 5) I'm currently working with the proper authorities to have these machines recalled.....it appears i'm not the only victim here. 6) the rating for this should be an overall 0. but this option was not available. 7) Stick with Hp/Cannon/ lexmark....the ink is mor expensive but the machines are reliable
