Despite the bad reviews, took a chance and bought this printer since it was on sale for $74.99 (reg. $199). It was easy to set up and it worked ok for a few weeks, then the hassles started. Problems: - one day last week, although printer detected network router, pcs could no longer print from it (printer not responding message or couldn't even detect printer); but could print with usb cable connected to pc - home center program wouldn't open - couldn't even reinstall it from cd or from online download - couldn't even uninstall the home center software using windows add/remove - online chat suggested using the Clear Utility for Kodak Software from www.kodak.com/go/clear but that didn't work either (framework window stalls uninstall) - talked with tech support (in India) for over 2 hrs doing all sorts of uninstall/install of various windows components including .NET framework 2.0 using different clean up utilities including one from Aaron Stebner's website - tech support seem knowledgeable and friendly but too bad the home center software still wouldn't reinstall (seems to suck up all the cpu and stalls) When the printer did work initially, - photo printing was decent - 2-sided printing and separate tray for photo paper were nice features - regular document printing was average (not really vivid). - it was noisy and clunky - sometimes printed normal when specified draft But wasted too much time on this printer, so returned it.

I happened to be shopping for a printer on the day that the Kodak rep was there. I was leary of the Kodak anyway, because of past performance issues they had. He told me that they have improved since then. I guess he gets paid commission on what he convinces you to buy. I bought this printer with standard expectations, that ended up being too high. After eventually getting it to connect to my wireless router (Linksys), I had to install the software, which was not too bad, but trying to get the computer to detect the printer was a pain. I had to call their support center in India, talked to 2 different people that could almost speak english. (Why can't anyone hire Americans that need a job here to help?) I had to unistall the printer and reinstall it, then it detected it, stayed connected for about an hour or so, made 2-3 prints, went offline again, in the morning, it was connected again for a few minutes, then off again. When it did actuallly work, it sounded like the neighbors were remodeling. It was really noisy. I am sure if it was connected directly through the USB port, it would work better, but that isn't why I bought the wireless printer. I took it back after 24 hours, and bough the Canon MX820...SOOOOO much better, install was easier, and about 100dB's quieter. Too bad Kodak hasn't gotten it together yet, they have cheap ink.

I bought this printer because I was tired of the high cost of ink for my HP, which was only a year old when I decided to buy this printer. At the time it had great reviews. Who could pass up a printer that allowed you to print TWICE as many pictures as the average printer on 1 ink cartridge AND pay 1/2 of the price in ink as the average printer. I've had my printer 7 mos and I must say for the first 5.5 mos I have LOVED my printer. I use my printer alot, mostly for photos, but then one day my printer stopped printing corrected. My first ink cartridge literally lasted forever, I printed about 200 pictures on one set of ink cartridges, but then when I replaced both my black and color inks, they were empty after 8 prints. Figured it was due to faulty cartridges. Afterall, sometimes you just get a bad cartridge. So replaced the cartridges again. . .printer wouldn't print AT all. My scanner stopped working as well. We did maintenance after maintenance and nothing has worked. I'm fed up! What a disappointment. We've spent a lot of money to get these multiple problems fixed only to have the SAME problems! When our printer does print it is very light with huge spots of NO PRINT at all. And we've had the same problems as everybody else. . .being asked to replace a cartridge eventhough it was half full!

Working with a second printer now. The first had a bad print head and was quickly replaced. A paper jam occurred in the first week of use and the error couldn't be cleared. Kodak sent another printer and a print head in a separate shipment, however no replacement inks. Also they didn't include the return shipping label. Tech Support is very hit and miss as it's outsourced. Took two weeks and 5 calls just to get an email link to get a return shipping label and address. It seems that most of the Tech Support speak English but don't understand English or the nature of your problem. Must be reading off a checklist and when your problem, such as no return shipping label, isn't there they don't know what to do. Printing on non-Kodak photo paper is almost impossible. There are no settings or adjustments except Kodak or non-Kodak. And all the non-Kodak paper prints are blotchy or over saturated to the point that the ink pools and runs together. Kodak used a led sensor to auto-detect the paper types. Ink usage is better than my Epson and HP, but nowhere near the amount of prints they say you going to get. Print quality on both the Epson and the HP is better than this printer.

i bought this printer because i seen the ad on TV on how much the ink cost$$$$ and that it prints very nice pictures. Well those two things i like about the printer i've printed a couple picture with kodak sampler paper you get with the printer. the ink cost is great. After the first few weeks i had it when i turned on the printer it would do the cleaning thing and get the printer ready, well everytime now i turn it on the photo paper jams and i have to use my hand to unjam it because it is not functioning the way it should which is really weird. Plus i have it hooked up wirelessly and half the time it comes up that i have no connection which is really annoying then i have to punch my code in again. So i got sick of doing that and i went out and bought the Dynex 2.0 USB printer cable because the ESP 7 and 9 printer dont come with the printer which i think it should(ripe off). Im thinking about taking this printer back it is not good quality. Im very disappointed in this product. I have another printer a Brother ive had no problems with it and it works great, i just wanted this printer for the cost of ink and printing photos.

I purchased this printer along with my laptop and camera, one of the main reasons I purchased it was the wireless feature. When I first installedf it and set it up it worked great, until 2 days later(if that). The dang thing kept saying the printer was not responding and that I needed to make sure it was on.. Well needless to say IT WAS ON. So I tried using the USB option, it worked for like one print job then it was having the same reaction. ERROR PRINTER NOT RESPONDING. Well I went to the website did tons of trouble shooting.. I wont take you through step by step but let me just tell you, I am the type of person who has lots of patience and can look past just about anything. After weeks of fooling with this thing I am about to throw it out the window. It seems that the drivers once installed have a time limit or something (thats the best way of putting it) The printer will print via USB, the wireless option will not work at all, and it will only print about a day or two and then it goes back to the same problem.. Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer is not my idea of convenience. Dont buy...

No Linux support, many other issues

I tried to install on three computers - two XP laptops and one Linux desktop. Install was only successful on one of the three. There is no existing or expected support for any Kodak printer for Linux. I tried to print two photos, and got errors about an inch into the print in each case. I could find no further information about why the photo prints were unsuccessful. After the first photo had an error, the blue ink seemed to be clogged, and I had to figure out how to clean the print head before I could print anything else with decent color. The ink is definitely cheaper than other brands per replacement, but I'm not sure it is cheaper per page. It was already down to about 3/4 full by the time I returned the printer on the second day after buying it. I cannot recommend a Kodak printer until they begin supporting Linux. All the brands I have looked at list Windows and Mac as the supported operating systems, but the other brands actually do support Linux, so their claim that they properly give notice about the lack of Linux support is invalid.

We love the 4 X 6 photos from this printer. They are better than emailing and picking up from the local photo shop. But, this machine is just not reliable. The set-up CD worked for our desktop which has been printing wireless just fine, but did not work for our laptop. Both systems are Vista Home Premium so we can't figure why one would work but not the other. But the worst thing is that when you want to print, you are printing blank pages all the time and then having to clean print head, correct nozzles and calibrate the printer to get it working again. Just wasting time and ink all the time for the basic function. Too bad... this printer is full of good ideas and high quality photos but just falls waaaay short of reliably executing the basic function of a printer. Hooked up our 8 year old HP 960 deskjet tonight and tomorrow I am taking back this Kodak and the extra ink and photo paper I bought. Going to do a little more research before buying another printer.

    Cautionary tale

Great print quality, ease of install, features and low cost of ink replacement are greatly overshadowed by: frequent printhead problems (needing to re-install it almost daily); message of paper jam when no paper was in machine; long wait for tech support by phone; on-line tech support often referring you to phone tech support; lack of way for customer to contact supervisor directly which means long wait time on hold; inconsistent response from phone support with some giving multiple strategies which work short term and some immediately ordering replacement printhead. After having this printer for only six weeks Kodak finally agreed to send a replacement printer. It was a challenge to get them to provide on site pick up for the broken printer despite my saying that as a disabled customer hauling it to a UPS store would be a grave inconvenience. I would buy with caution and buy a protection plan (it wasn't offered and I didn't think to ask).

    Disappointing

I have not used the printer all that much and already it needs a new cartridge. Factor this in to your decision before buying. Sure, the cartridges are less expensive, but if you have to buy them more frequently, what have you gained? Also, once the cartridge needs replacing, you cannot print anything. The HP printer I previously had would allow you to print in black. Not this thing. Secondly, the machine is VERY noisy, and it just sounds CHEAP. When you start it up, you get all sorts of clicking, whirring, beeping, and gnashing of parts. There is no question that the inner workings of the printer are mainly plastic, and overall, it simply sounds like a cheap piece of junk. Very disconcerting. Kodak needs to go back to the drawing board with this unit. Nice concept, but the actual product is quite shoddy. There is better value available elsewhere.

I really wanted this to be a great printer. Setup instructions didn't really match what I had, so had to be extra careful. During install, paper was required to calibrate and I put 3 sheets in the printer. It didn't even recognize them. Finally put a stack in, and it told me I had an error, but only gave a code, not description. Eventually got it working, ran calibration, black print head was not working properly. Tried clean printhead option, still didn't work. Looked at head, it had black ink all over the print head. Packed it up for return, disappointed. No second chance for Kodak. Next try will be better-rated PIXMA and Canon's expensive inks . Sorry, Kodak. I so wanted it to work out :-(

This is the second Kodak ESP7 I've had in three months, The first I returned 2 weeks ago because of error messages that there were either paper jams or upper tray problems, but there was no paper jam and I never used the upper tray. Best Buy was very nice and replaced the printer with a new ESP7 at the current sales price, so they credited me $50. Now two weeks later, I printed 3 nice photos using the card slot, but again I'm getting a paper jam error with no paper in the printer. I'm taking it back to Best Buy tonight and getting a different printer this time.

    TOO LOUD

First of all this printer is way too LOUD. Second the print quality is poor, reds are pink. Printhead has been changed and there still is problem with the color quality. The color that is on your screen is not the color that will print. I would recommend this to a friend as far as the cost of ink is concern.
