SHIZAM! - I Had ESP When I Bought The ESP7!!!

Just got it and absolutely love it so far - and I'm real picky. I read all the reviews and frankly don't understand the negative ones as my experience is totally different. BOUGHT - On Web and despite being told it might be 14 days to delivery, it was here in 6 with a weekend and New Years Day in the middle. I also bought the 4 x 6 pic paper package. I already have Kodak 8 x 11 paper. I DID NOT buy the USB 2.0 cable as I already had ones and they worked fine so you don't need the one they sell if you have one - or at least I didn't. SETUP - This was easy and well illustrated. It does take a while but it happens. I set it up for USB on a Windows Vista and XP PC and it went smoothly. Right now, I have to switch USB plugs to use the other PC but I'll add a switch later. Can't find the User Manual in the software so far but I downloaded the PDF of it from this website so I got it anyway. PRINT QUALITY - Absolutely don't understand some complaints. I challenged mine immediately and printed some toughies direct from Corel onto 8 x 11s and they were more than fine. Black as deep black and the colors were vibrant and distinct. Printed several 4 x6s and the same thing but these were done through Kodak's software. Based on my tests, and some were of some old pics I had recently paid a lot of money to have done at a major retail camera store's lab, this turned out better pics and of course, the price is unbeatable. Being able to tweak the pics before printing and seeing the results so I'd know if I wanted them is huge. As is that they printed as they looked on the screen. So, I wasted my money at the camera store - but no more! I couldn't be more pleased. TASKBAR MONITOR - Love this. Just click it and it tells you how much paper is in each tray and what the ink levels are, plus, I think you can click "Order" and go right to Kodak's site to order more if you need it. Kodak's prices are low too but so are Best Buys. KOADK EDITING SOFTWARE - This has great tools and is so easy to use and it shows the effect right away so you can quickly play around with making pics look better. I haven't tried using the screen on the machine so I can't say how well that works nor pluggin in cards and printing directly from them. I will probably work it mostly through the PC. THE NOISE ISSUE - Yes, it does make noise and maybe a little more than my former HP inkjet but it's not a big deal. It makes a lot less noise than a microwave, so at least I know it's working! Besides, I usually have a TV on or the stereo on so, it could make a lot more noise before it would be a problem for me. All my printers make noise (color laser and regular laser) so I don't expect less and this one doesn't exceed those. Frankly, if it made no noise, I kinda wouldn't trust it, you know. For me, it's not a problem but I thought I'd address it since others did. SEPARATE OUTPUT TRAY - It would be nice if it had one but this is easy to work around with the feedback monitor so you keep the paper trays filled before printing and printing doesn't take long anyway. To add a separate tray would only make the machine bigger and to me, the trade off isn't worth it. All machines and software, no matter how well desgined, involve work-arounds of some kind and this one is no big deal. THOSE INK PRICES - Too soon to tell if it will deliver as promised but since it's sold on that basis, it has too deliver. But it sounds like, since I just got it, it will be quite some time and a whole lot of pics before I'll need to experience buying more ink at lower prices and I can't wait till I get to enjoy that reality! CONCLUSION - You can't do better for the price than this ESP7 - Hands down a winner!

I have had this for 6 months - Here is my review.

I read so many of the printer reviews on this unit. Its a shame you will NOT find anything positive on this printer line from national websites or from competitors. Many of the 1 star reviews are fictitious so consider it for yourself and make up your own mind. Visit a Bestbuy to see it in action. you will be impressed. I based the purchase of mine on the private reviewers website and end user reviews and my now own personal review after purchasing and using it for 6 months. It is quite revolutionary the methods they used in making this printer and using DYE vs. ink. Dye is archival (100+ years), less is needed for brilliancy of colors. The other manufactures are simply out matched as far as I am concerned. I use to have HP photo printers and upgraded to the Cannon 9000 photo. which is still fantastic. BUT the cost of ink was killing me ($80 each round). Kodaks dye is $22 for a complete pack. Setting it up: Running XP with SP3 it took about 15 minutes to install. The kodak software (which allows you to create scrapbooks and cute frames) didn't work but all I wanted to do was print a doc and some pics. What takes the software a long time to load is the .NET software from microsoft. So if you have that installed it should go quickly - if not it will auto install it for you. On my other PC I ran the install from the website software and again it installed .NET and it took about 20 minutes. don't for get to reboot too. I had the printer set up on wireless. It found it no probs. Printing seemed much faster to me than others. The colors were great. After printing the first pic, i put it on it's flatbed scanner and printed again to a 4x6 photo paper. you could hardly tell (in fact you wouldn't tell unless you compared it to the original). Printing to 8x10 paper (as a regular printer) was really fast and accurate. I scanned a document and it went right to my computer. No hassle or configurations. I would say the speed of a color photo is about 45 secs and the standard printer was about 5-7 seconds. Due to the cost and efficiency for the ink. I let me 5 year old daughter print her "fun pages" from nick jr.. I also let my nanny print a box of photos (80 cnt). I bought it for Christmas and now it's mid june. I am about to buy my third Black cartridge and I just installed my third color cartridge. I love the wireless, the cost of the ink, the scanner, the front display and the controls, the speed of printing, the card readers (all formats including compact flash!!!!!), the auto trays (pre load both paper and photo - no switching) and the price of the unit. MY ONLY complaints are it's kind of mechanically loud when the it starts up. But we do leave it on all the time (it sleeps after an hour). Its a good size printer kind of awkward. The tray design - if your not careful the paper can get pushed too far in - It's jammed on me once in the past 6 months. The recommended photo paper seems thinner but it is much less expensive. When it's in an album or frame it looks perfect. The big money maker sites and reviewers out there don't like this product. To me it was hands down a winner (at least for me - Joe Consumer). I have recommended this to friends and they all love it too. I would buy this again.

    EXCEEDED my expectations!

I use this printer in my office, (I print a LOT of documents!) And I loved this printer so much, I ended up buying an EXTRA one-- FOR HOME! Setup was a breeze! In both my home and work office, I have wireless 802.11N installed, and this printer prints without hesitation! Insert the CD, install the printhead, the inks, and paper, and in about 15 minutes, I was ready to print!! This product is REALLY simple, and EASY to use. It's so easy, my 7year old newphew knows "how to make copies"! I was really hesitant upon initial purchase, because of the other reviews, but I've experienced the absolute opposite. Although it's loud, it's nothing that you wouldn't expect for a printer. I mean, what is it supposed to do, print in complete silence? This isn't a printer monk! Ink so SOO cheap, I'm not even tempted to "refill" or buy "re-manufactured" inks. The quality of my prints come out so crisp, and photos are absolutely vivid and as sharp as can be. My clients don't even know that these photos are done right in my office! The printer is GREAT at printing on BOTH sides of paper with the included duplex printing accessory and it's speedy print speeds definitely can keep up with my 6 computer print needs and office! (We all just wish it had a bigger plain paper tray!) We almost went color laser, but with the low cost of consumables, we stuck with Kodak, and we're glad we did! At home the kids can print as many things as they like and I don't hesitate to offer them more ink and paper since it's so cheap! Copying, scanning, and even printing is a breeze and the fact that I can scan to a USB drive RIGHT FROM THE PRINTER is a plus! WE CAN ACTUALLY DO IT RIGHT FROM THE NETWORK WIRELESSLY!! Another thing I love is that this is the ONLY printer I've ever used with a built in paper level sensor! It ACTUALLY TELLS ME WHEN I'M LOW or OUT OF PAPER BEFORE THE PRINTJOB! Each computer gets the little "inkjet monitor" and with the click of a mouse, I can check the levels of the ink AND paper right from the computer! And dont worry!! I don't need to remind the printer that I'm using photo paper! It automatically KNOWS what type of paper it is whether it be photo vs. regular paper! AND IT HOLDS 5x7 and 4x6 paper in the top tray!! So I don't have to take ALL the regular paper OUT!! One thing though is that I wish it had a larger paper tray. At my OFFICE, I set the printer in draft mode, and truthfully, almost printed a WHOLE REAM of paper before the black cartridge went out in DRAFT MODE! The color cartridge is no exception! It's great as well! I could just go on and on. In fact, another thing is that the printer tells you on the main screen the signal quality of the wireless router signal as well. I could just go on and on, but overall, I'm glad I stuck to my intuitions and bought this product DESPITE the negative reviews I read. It's a winner in my HOUSE and my OFFICE! THANK YOU BEST BUY and KODAK!!!!

    Great Multifunction Printer

    Jonato

I purchased this printer to replace a Canon Multifunction printer, as I wanted the benefit of wifi printing and the cost savings of Kodak ink. The print quality on this printer is great, the scan quality is ok compared to the Canon. Scanning a photo on both machines, the Canon is a bit more bright and the quality a bit better, but just a minimal amount, and deferentially not a deal breaker. Using the Wifi, you can not only print but also scan your photo's, no wired needed. This feature is left off the product details, and is a step above many of the other wifi printers available. It has a power saver mode, so you can leave it on and it will go to sleep (you set the amount of time before it enters this mode), but comes back to full function the second you send a signal to the printer. The printer holds both regular paper and 4x6 photo paper at the same time, so it is always ready to print what ever you are printing. Also to note, you can set it to automatically print on both sides of the paper, and this feature works great (called duplexer). I think this is a great step up for kodak, and you can't beat the ink cost. I do wish the scan quality was lab quality, as the print quality is. If you are wanting a scanner that will produce 100% original quality photos, you will probably want to pass on this multifunction, but in general, you will probably want to skip on any multifunction and go with a stand alone printer and stand alone scanner. If you are looking for a all in one machine that works as it is marketed, this is a the printer for you.

    First Wireless Printer--Easy

    Posted

I opened the box and saw,Start Here, in bold type. If you do that all will be well. I unpacked the printer and followed the picture instructions easily. If you can read and match pictures(like remove orange tape here) you will have an easy time. Once I had the print head and ink cartridges installed I pugged it in and followed on screen instructions. The only bobble was that I had to remember my wireless network password. I am using a US Robotics router and 2 laptops, one gateway with XP Pro and a Dell with XP home. After printing a test page, before installing on computers I thought the hard part was over. I spent about 5 minutes on each laptop trying to get them to open the installation cd. I got an error message saying that it was not a 32 bit file. I checked the website and found where I could download the drivers and started that going. I called the 800 number and after listening to the options pressed #4 for other problems with ESP 7 and 9's. Shandra answered after about 15 seconds and walked me through the downloading and set-up. After starting the system installer it took about 30-40 minutes on each laptop to download. After it finished downloading it automatically detected the printer and I have printed both pictures and documents with both laptops with no problems. I also used the card reader option to print several pictures just playing with settings. The ESP 7 is the best picture quality printer I have used since buying my first printer in 1995. In summary, read the directions and it should work. Be prepared to download drivers if using XP. Make sure your computer has the minimum requirements met or you will have problems.

I try not to be harsh of fellow peer reviews but seriously...are people that technologically impaired? I'll be a geek here and quote "Assimilate or die." Seriously, though, the ease of setup on this machine has been the best to date. Guess it also helped I was upgrading from my ESP-3. My Kodak software was already on the computer so all I had to do was update the driver software for the ESP-7, plug in my printer, connect it to my network and boom! Wireless printing in less than five minutes. This makes things so much easier for me, and trading in an old Epson printer of mine helped me get another $50 off the $150 sale price. Wireless all-in-one with automatic double-sided printing and some of the cheapest ink cost around for $100? One of the best deals ever! Hopefully this doesn't have the same issue as my ESP-3 with the printhead, as I had to replace it twice in one year. The process to replace it was painless and quick (five minute online questionnaire), but being without a printer for 3-5 days is a bit of a nuisance. Luckily the replacement is free and quick, so if it does happen I'm not too worried. My suggestion? Report a bad printhead anyway and have a backup just in case. My only qualm with this printer is the noise, as others have stated. It has a loud startup and maintenance routine -- big freakin' deal. I'm not doing printing in the middle of the night and even if I was, my printer is nowhere near a point of inconvenience. I'm glad I upgraded. Oh, and did I mention the photo prints on this beast? Amazing! Just as good as the ones you can get from Kiosks, and cheaper too. These Kodak machines have made things much easier for me professionally, personally, and academically. I'd recommend this to anyone! You'd be a fool to ignore it!

Do Not Know Why You Had Problems

I have wanted the ESP 7 for a while and when I saw the sale price I jumped at the opportunity. I have an HP Photosmart 8250 which I have always been completely pleased with but wanted the ESP 7 for wireless capabilities and to reduce my cost of color picture printing which I have no doubt it will do. I purchased the unit and hooked it up. It took no time at all to hook the printer up and install the software that came with the unit, install the print head and cartridges and get the printer connected to two separate desktop computers and two separate laptop computers. Each computer and laptop found the WIFI printer in seconds and printed the test page as I requested it to do so immediately. Of course it is noisy but a little less noisy than my Photosmart. It is an inkjet printer and these printers are usually noisy. I am also very impressed with the LCD on the printer. Very bright and easy to read and the function panel is not overloaded with buttons making it easier to use and understand. One problem I had at times with my HP was that it seemed it sometimes had a problem finding the 4x6 photo paper in the tray. This printer did so without any problems which I truly was happy about. I am looking forward to a long and happy relationship (lol) with my new printer.

I read all the reviews on this site and others and it was either really good or really bad. I had to try this printer for myself. Bought printer form store rather that having it shipped. Printer came packaged extremely well. All paper trays, scanner lids, ink cartridge carriage were are strapped with tape to insure damage free delivery. Setup from opeing box to configuring on first Desktop PC was about 20 minutes. Used wireless connectivity to install printer. No problem attaching to our home network using 128-bit encr. with HEX security code entered into front control panel of printer. Installation of drivers was a snap directly from CD included with printer. Printed first picture within 20 minutes of opening box. I do not consider that to be too much. I am an IT professional who has worked with all printer technologies from the last 25 years. This printer does not require a lot of knowledge to setup. I am not sure what everyone is complaining about. Install pack looked for updated drivers and installed what it needed. Printer is a little noisier than most, but is the claims of Kodak that this printer will significantly same you on ink costs, I can pt up with a little noise. The Black/Color combo sells for $22. Compare that to the $56 I was spending on a combo for my Lexmark X1180. I think that this will be a fine printer for home. I would even consider it for a desk printer or small workgroup printer in an office. Nice job Kodak.

    KODAK ESP7, a great printer/copier/scanner

    Posted
    Tom13760

I bought 3 of these printers at Christmas time (Best Buy old printer $50 trade in program) for myself, grand daughter and girl friend. I was a little worried that the wireless setup could be a pain even though I am a retired engineer and recently retired PC Software support person. Fortunately it was a snap for all 3 printers. Really didn't read instructions very much. It was quite intuitive, IMHO. Tell the printer to connect wirelessly, it finds the network/s (if more than one select your network) and if your network is password protected (SHOULD BE!!) type in the password. Then install software on PC, tell it is wirelessly connected, it finds it and connects with no problem. So far I would have to say it is a great product. My 12 year old grand daughter was using it before I even installed it on PC (as a copier and scanner) with NO instructions from me (I don't think she read any instructions either). Printing wirelessly is faultless and supplies are cheap and I like that Kodak photo paper is coded for reading by printer, paper may cost a little more(check Sams Club though) but so what, will save money by having good photos the first time and save frustration. Plus the Kodak ink is different than others and seems to be resistant to smearing, etc. So far, so good. Definitely recommend this printer!!!

    Best Printer I ever owned

It's one of the greatest things I have purchased at Best Buy. It took me about 30 minutes to get everything working using the wireless setup on this printer. Printed some photos as a test and they are as great as anything I have seen from a photo lab. Printing on plain paper comes out great also. It's on only printer I have found that also shows on your computer screen how much paper is left in each tray in addition to the ink levels. This is a great thing to know when the computer is in a different room as the printer. Hard to believe that it also has a built-in duplexor also for the price. Two minor quibbles. First, the printer makes loud whirring noises when it starts a print job. Second, if you need to add more paper to it, and you have printouts still on the printer, you will have to remove them and open the cover to the paper tray. However, this same cover helps to keep dust and dirt away from the paper. These two inconveniences are minor when compared to the rest of the printer. I purchased this printer to save on ink cost and also to have the ability to print with the built in wirless capability. I have not had any problems with this printer in the 3 weeks I have used it and I highly recommend you consider the Kodak ESP 7. It's been a great product so far.

    ESP-7 Kodak Printer-Excellent Product

    Posted
    Paulie2

I purchased the printer in December, 2008. It is so much better than the printer I discarded after about 1 year of use. It has separte trays for film paper and a tray for general printer paper. It fully integrates with Kodak camera products. It has a small screen from which you can drive a print/copy/scan memu or photo menu. It is very user friendly, and set up went smooth. When typing passwords for wireless setup, you need to take note of the key pad screen being in capitals or small caps, since passwords are case sensitive. I had to re-do my 2007 taxes, and I was amazed at how little black ink was used to print a large volume of copies. The software for the printer appears well designed, and the screen on the printer itself is very user friendly. I have not worked with photos yet, but it does use pigments, and not dyes, which should highly limit fading of the printed photos over time. It also automatically recognizes the different sizes of Kodak film paper, it reads the bar codes. The printed pages also store in a hollow in the printer, versus on a rack that takes up space. For me, it has been a great unit. I've worked in outside sales for 30 years, so I've gone through my share of printers and computers.

Hello everyone, long story short. Get this printer! It is easy to set up, if you just read the directions! I have been through many many printers. I started with Dot Matrix and the TI 99/4A back in the old days if that tells you anything.I have also worn out 3 Lexmarks in the past year and a half. This printer is is of commercial grade quality, is FAST, easy to hook up and prints like a dream. Another thing that is impressive is the RANGE, I was not expecting this! It is quite a ways off from my router and still gets a good solid signal. The ink cartridges are not only affordable, but they are BIG! I have been printing pictures, ebay shipping labels and documents every day for the past 2 weeks since I aquired it and I STILL have 90% of my ink! My last printer before this was a Canon. It gave me trouble on a daily basis, and was twice as noisy as this one. Other posts are stating that it is noisy, yes it does make a little noise but not its not something to worry about unless you are going to put it next to your bed or your baby's crib. Just get it and you will see what I mean, shame on you KODAK for not putting this printer out years ago. -JJ

My wife and I regularly print reports, etc. My wife is also a big fan of scrap booking so we print a great deal of photo's. Because of ink cost we decided to go with the ESP 7 regardless of the bad reviews. First, photo quality prints are excellent, second, in the last month I printed over one reams worth of paper (500 sheets) before having to replace the black cartridge. With color printing also included I still have about 1/3 of the color cartridge. The unit is wireless and setup for the most part was a breeze. The only negative was an installation issue where the cd did not install the latest software (despite choosing the option to do so) and therefore my vista pc would not recognize the printer, called customer service which was horrible ( I knew more than them). Found the update online and installed, problem solved. Overall quality is fine, some people complain about weak parts.. I have not had those problems. Printer can be noisy, but that is relative to where you place it. It is really no louder than my ofice laser printer and just slightly louder than my old HP printer. I would recommend and have at this point.

I've been waiting for this printer and after they were pre-ordered on Kodak they were not available! Best Buy has them for $50 off!! What I like: duplex ability, wifi (no more cables! We have enough already) the screen where you can adjust everything, I LOVE that it holds my paper and photo paper and conceals it. What I don't like: nothing really, it is a little loud when it grabs your paper and gets ready to print but thats not a deal breaker. It copies, scans and prints great. The photos come out great also. I am replacing a HP photosmart printer which also has great features and I would give the same rating too. My reason for replacing is ink value, the ability to house papers, and compatibility with Vista. With my HP every time it was turned off it took too long to get back online. Vista had to install drivers each time. There is no issues with this printer. My Stats: wifi, vista desktop, mac laptop

I was a little concerned about this printer, as the reviews are very polarized (excellent or poor). I was attracted by the Kodak's low ink cost, and the front load horizontal paper tray. I need this feature as the printer is located in a cabinet. HP printers also have this design, and I had an HP for a few years. The high ink cartridge cost and ink consumption of my HP, as well as the low cost of printers made me go shopping. I installed the Kodak printer, following the instructions provided. It worked immediately without any hassle. Text print quality is very good. Photo printing is excellent, much better than my HP. I don't think this printer is any noisier than my HP, but the printer's location reduces noise levels quite a bit. I have need for another printer, and will likely buy another of these. I've only used this for 3 weeks now, so I'll wait a while see if the good performance continues.

I bought this printer for business use. I am a photographer and a lot of assignment I may be required to print out a few photos before clients pay for the photo. So I did not want to spend a lot of money doing this. I saw the commercial for this printer and thought about getting it instead of an HP. I used to use one but 15 Photos and you are out of ink and it is $40 for color. When I went onto Best Buy it had the lowest rating because people don't know how to use it. Make sure the tape is off of the feeder or it will get jammed the first time. I made that mistake and then found out about the tape. It is the easiest printer to use. Plus if you get it you can return it for money back in 30 Days. I printed off 20 Photos all ready and the DEMO Cartridge is not even Half done.

I purchased this printer after reading several reviews here. I was leary, but talked to one of the Best Buy employees. I decided to purchase it since I could return it within 14 days if I had any problems. It was easy to set up. The printer detected my router immediately. Software was easy to install and I was printing within minutes of setting it up. Others noted how loud the printer is when printing. It's not really an issue since it's housed in the office on the other side of the house. It is loud when we're in the room making copies or scans. With the door closed to the office it can't be heard elsewhere. The only problem I had was the print quality after just a week. I cleaned the printhead and problem was solved. Also the print quality was horrible on other manufacturers' paper. Kodak paper gave the best results.

This printer hooked right into my network with few issues. The first computer had some issues with finding it, however, due to firewall settings, and I had to make changes to the firewall settings based on information I found from the website to make it work. That was fine for me, but some users might struggle to get it to work if they are not comfortable making changes to their firewall settings. I didn't have problems with printer drivers on the other machines, however; it worked fine if you instructed the installation program to find updates from the internet during the initial install. The only other issues are that the printer sometimes takes a bit to make copies, and the scanner is kind of slow. However, I like it a lot and am happy I bought it.

Received as a Christmas Presnet. At first, I wasn't looking forward to the install process. However, installing the printer was pretty simple. One thing that was confusing, the instructions said that I would need the IP address-- and that I would have to enter the address when told to do so but that is not always the case. I selected the name of the network and that was all that I needed to do. I thought I missed a step. I have printed a few photos and was pleased. Be sure to set photo size to 4 x 6 before printing your first photo. Otherwise it will print a 3.5 x 5 print (well atleast that what happend to me) I agree with other reviews that the printer is a bit loud but that is not a big deal to me. For the money, the printer is a good deal.

I have to question all these bad reviews. I've had this printer for about a month now and have printed out 56 pictures and 25 pages of documents. I've not had a single hiccup or problem. The reason I chose this printer is because my cousin has the same one and loves it. She too has had no problems. I went from a epson all in one to this and by far love this printer a lot better. This printer is great- its fast, good quality, cheap high quality ink. The wifi range is fantastic. I love not having to be even close to the printer to print stuff out. I also like the fact i can just put in a memory card and do everything from the printer if i wanted to w/o using a computer. Con: Packaging - was a pain taking off all that blue tape! lol

I would recommend this to a friend
