Great Camera - Very Satisfied on trip to Big Bend

Just purchased camera about 3 weeks ago and took it to Big Bend National Park. I did not dunk it in the water, but it did get wet - performing with flying colors. This is a very easy camera to use. Here are a few items I want to point out: - Battery Life: I was going to be out in the middle of the park for 3 days without the ability to recharge. I had a total of 4 batteries, but only used 2. So battery life is not a concern, but I would recommend having a spare on hand. - Microphone: The microphone is not the best. You have to be aware of your audio surroundings. If you want to get someone speaking, you will probably need to get 10-15 feet away. - Editing Software: It is loaded on the camera. The first time you connect it to your computer, it downloads and installs the software. This is pretty cool, and pretty easy to use. - Picture Quality: Solid. - Ease of Use: Very easy. I highly recommend it. Also, I recommend a spare battery, a small tripod and a case (carrying in your pocket will eventually scuff the View Finder.

    Awesome product for movies on-the-go

My husband loves to take quick-clips of the kids, and often used my still camera instead of lugging out the large video camera that is admittedly out-dated. I bought him the PlaySport for father's day and it has been awesome. It fits nicely in his pocket so he can carry and control it, leaving me to to focus on the stills (with my Canon G11). The 8G card we have rarely runs out of space before we download our movies, although I recommend a 16G card if you take long, high-quality movies. The movie quality is great in 1080 without zooming in - I had original quality movies on a 50" high-def TV and very little distortion if any was seen. However, when you zoom, you obviously loose picture quality and this was obvious on the 50", but would probably not be noticeable on a smaller screen. In terms of ease-of-use, my 5-year-old has no problem operating it and loves to take movies with it. And since it's waterproof and shock-resistant, I don't mind that he uses it! A great product and even better given it's price...just make sure you have enough storage as the 1080 movies are quite large and I'm already shopping for a larger hard drive to store them on!

I purchased this camera to use on my trip to Hawaii. I bought it primarily because I wanted a camera that I could use under water to photograph sea life and it ended up better than I expected. The pictures are really good, vivid colors, both above and under water. Of course it is compact, the LCD is small and it doesn't have a full set of features that most digital cameras have, but I still recommend it for users with the same purpose: just simple use in a trip or something that requires easy use. Don't recommend it for advanced users who expects a bunch of features such as zoom, timer, etc..

I went to Best Buy on April 6, 2010 and couldn't believe that they had this in stock! I had researched "waterproof" cameras that shot video and had found that the only one worth the money was the Canon D10. But, BB doesn't carry it, and it is a bit more pricey then I wanted. When I heard about the Playsport I searched Youtube for examples of its performance. I decided afterwards that for the price it was worth the risk of betting on a new product. I'm glad that I did. I took this to Maui in mid-April and shot 16 gb of video while hiking and snorkeling. The camera proved to truly be waterproof and was easy to stash in a pocket while climbing. I will admit that I'm puzzled by its inability to remember what time of day it is in the settings, but I don't really find that to be important. Also, the battery life is a bit shorter than expected (I've been spoiled with Engerzier E2's!) But, with the USB cord and a rental car with a USB port, no worries! It has turned out to be a rugged, little camera and I think it is well worth the $150! Nice job Kodak!!!

After much debate and research of other small camcorders, I settled on the Kodak playsport...what a wise investment. The final feature that sold me on this camera was the fact that it is waterproof, living in Florida and spending lots of time on the water it only makes sense to have this feature. This product is easy to use and takes great video. Right out of the box and I was using it as soon as the battery was charged. Very simple! We have used this both indoors and outdoors and find that the picture quality remains quite good even in lower lighting indoors. The video easily transfers to my computer and with a converter software (free download online) I burn these directly to DVD. The battery life is shorter than I would have expected but that was easily solved by investing in an extra battery. The size is great to throw in your pocket and it is pretty rugged. After talking to several people that have bought the other brands, I am glad I went with this purchase!!

My wife bought me this camera as a bundle with a case and second battery for Christmas of 2010, the pros, fits in your pocket, records both 1080 & 720 HD along with standard def (480) it can recharge from 110v outlet or USB 2.0, records in apple's .MOV format (QuickTime), top quality video under water...IT'S WATERPROOF TO 10 FT, bring it in the pool with the kids, if you take to the beach and get sand on it, just hold under running water to wash it off Cons, the video quality suffers under low light, mic is noisy in a breeze, the arcsoft software leaves a lot to be desired, I don't use it, I take the SD card stick in the computer and move the videos to the computer then edit using adobe cs3 premier before burning to dvd, windows movie maker works well with it to, I also have a Sony HDR CX110 HD Video cam, and this little play sport runs rings around the Sony, Sony uses their own video format that can only be edited and burned using their software, so if you like to add titles, still photos, and fluff up your video before burning it to dvd forget the Sony

Don't expect miracles... Expect average results...

Let me start by saying that I set my expectations too high. I was thinking this camera would be the best of both worlds, a great digital camera and a great digital camcorder. What I found out was that it wasn't either, it was only average at best on both counts. If you have plenty of light (ie outdoors in the sun) the picture quality was decent enough. Sort of like the quality you'd get from digital camera 5 years ago. But definitely not up to today's standards. Cloudy days, indoors, etc the picture quality quickly degrades. But I wasn't too much concerned for still photos, I wanted good quality videos - and I was really disappointed. The videos were unstable, jittery, and at times nearly impossible to watch without getting seasick. That may be partly my fault as a videographer, but still - I was surprised at the quality. The only saving grace for me was that the camera could be submerged up to 3 meters. That did work, and was pretty cool. But other than that I'm not very happy with it, and if BB will allow me to - it'll be exchanged.

I was looking for a camera to take on vacation. I already have a Canon DV camera but I get tired of lugging it around. It's also hard to hand over to a five year old who's tugging at you to take video; dollar signs flash through your mind as you see it being dropped. So I started looking into these smaller cameras and read a lot of reviews. What struck me about the PlaySport is that it's got many features that aren't available anywhere else right now like EIS and water proofing. We just got back from the Black Hills of SD and I used it everywhere and I was very happy. The picture quality looks good but you still have to be sure not to move it around rapidly when taking video. I have no problem handing it over to one of the kids to shoot video because it's ruggetized. My 12 year old has already shot some cool underwater Lego video in the bathtub! How cool is that? For the money you just can't go wrong. If something bad does happen to the device you won't feel too bad either. This is simply the best device in class right now!

I got this camera for my 16yo son, and it had all of the features he was interested in. The video quality is very good for a camera in this price range, and the fact that it is waterproof meant that he could take it camping on weekends. Two big drawbacks forced us to take it back and get a different camera. One was the fact that the battery only lasts about 30 minutes on a full charge. This means that it is really only useful indoors, where you can keep it plugged in. The biggest problem, though, is the fact that the USB connection to the camera is very unreliable. We actually got two of these cameras. The first one would not connect at all, so it could not charge or transfer videos to the computer. I exchanged it for another one, which worked better out of the box, but within a couple of days, it started having the same connection problems.

    Kodak Playsport

I really wanted this to work for me. Unfortunately, the build quality is just simply inferior to other products in this price range. I kept seeing a black spot/cloud in the lower center portion of the screen. I tried to view a recording on a TV and the cloud still appeared. I exchanged the first Playsport. Then the second one had 2 spot in the same place. There is also some dark shading in the upper area of the screen. I exchanged again and had the same problem. So I tried to go to a different Best Buy for my final exchange hoping do get one from a different batch and still the same problem. You can search youtube for "Kodak Playsport flaw." Someone posted a video experiencing the same problems that I had. So after 4 bad Playsports, I ended up exchanging for a Flip Mino HD. It has less features, but it records properly with no screen/lens defects.

I purchased this camera for an upcoming caribbean cruise. I also brought another larger camera with me to use but never got it out. The Kodak Playsport takes both video and still shots and is small enough to carry in your pocket. I snorkeled with it and did not have any problem with it leaking. It is a little difficult to see the LCD screen underwater but was manageable. The outdoor shots were great and had some zoom to it. Indoor shots were ok if lighting was good. Not great in low level light. Overall, I am impressed with the camera and would recommend it to everyone.

BEWARE!!!!!!!! I went to bestbuy to purchase this before the release date and they had some in stock! I bought mine on Friday and brought to work. I had 4 friends that bought one the same weekend. First, the battery life was an issue not keeping charge (this happened to 4 of us with same playsport. Second, the time settings on unit are defected!!(Time not change to PM until 2:01PM) I have tried contacting Kodak and they told me to go the Kodak website and do the step-by-step. Well, the site does not have this camera to choose from, I have contacted Kodak again and they told me that they had an update firmware 1.03 (currently I have the 1.01). I did the update firmware and have the same issues. After being on the phone with customer support for 45 minutes - they suggested to wait for the next update firmware. Please be patient and wait till they fix this before buying!!! Other then that - this playsport is awesome on the picture and video quality!!!

Great quality pictures, poor audio sometimes

The picture quality is great underwater, outside, in sun, in shade, pretty much everywhere you'd expect. Even when getting darker outside it is pretty fair. It is a very simple, easy to use, point-and-shoot camera. Not too many special features here. Good battery life records a long time (never even went beyond it's life so who knows how long it lasts). The only complaint is that the microphone sometimes clogs with water when swimming--you have to shake it out a little bit or else there won't really be any audio for those clips you take.

Got the Kodak Playsport camera on a whim to take digital videos of our great grandson. The camera has worked flawlessly for want we have been doing. The only drawback of the camera is that it has no flash ( I knew that before buying it) and some inside pictures and video can been very grainy. But hey that's to be expected with no flash. The outside pics and videos are so nice and the high speed mode makes for great slow motion playback. The software with the camera is so so but I've been using another video editor so I have no problems. Everyone who sees this camera thiks it a cell phone and is amazed that it takes such good video and pics. Overall this camera is a great buy for just about anybodylooking for an inexpensive way to take good digital videos.

I didn't expect much from a hand held HD camcorder that costs less than $120 bucks! I immediately put it through some sound tests and it sounded great capturing a live drum set. Then I put through an outdoor test at my local park, WOW! All of the colors are vibrant and are quite accurate. The sharpness is very good even at 720@30 fps, at 1080 it's incredible. Now for the software...not bad but if you have an older computer (Pentium4 XP S3), you'll have to settle for 720@30 fps for a smooth frame rate to view it. With a newer computer you should be fine. The video is captured in a Quicktme format so if you need it in an MPEG format, you'll have to convert it yourself. Overall, I am very happy with this camcorder...I'll get back to you on durability. If you see this on sale and want something way better than an old standard SD camcorder, this is the camcorder for you...especially if it's on sale!

I really love this camera! its really nice and it comes with both hdmi cable and av cable which surprised me. i watched reviews on youtube and i never saw it in person until yesterday when i bought it and i thought it was small but its actually the perfect size. I also thought the video editing software was going to be simple but turned out it was just what i needed. i wanted the purple one even though im a guy but they only had black. They only sold all colors online but its ok. it matches my revo. and dont make the same mistake that others made. by buying a regular sd card. YOU NEED A SDHC SD CARD OR ELSE YOU WON'T HAVE ANY VIDEOS! i know it says sd/sdch but please buy sdhc

I recently took this camera on a scuba diving trip in Mexico. I was expecting to be in only 15 feet of water, knowing this camera is only rated for 3 meters. I ended up spending most of the dive in 25-30 feet of water. I had the camera taking video the whole time I was in the water. Amazingly, it held up just fine. When I opened up the battery hatch there was only a drop or 2 of water. After letting it dry out, it continued to work fine while the kids used it in the pool. The video and picture quality is pretty good for this type of camera. The only drawback was the battery life, which was a little shorter than desired, so buy an extra battery. I didn't expect a whole lot from this inexpensive camera, but I was pleasantly surprised. Well worth the $120 I paid for it.

My wife bought this for me for my birthday last week and I have just got back from the pool the my kids. GREAT GREAT GREAT......... everyone at the pool thought I had jumped in with my cell phone and they were really surprised when I told them it is waterproof to 3m/10ft video and stills camera. Just hooked it up to the TV via the HDMI cable that came with it and WOW.....the picture quality is great and it is so easy to use. One thing though, it doesnt float so I will have to get a floating keychain from the local watersports store just to be on the safe side in the ocean. All in all this is just the most versitile video camera I have ever owned and I have had them all...Value and quality linked with simplicity and excelent value and just $149.00.........Watchout summer fun here we come........

My previous experience with Kodak's hand-held camcorders was with the Zi6 and this blows it out of the water (not to mention this has a rechargeable lithium battery as opposed to AA batteries). With all the same features as the Zi8 that's priced at $180 (4x zoom, 5 MP stills, 1080p @ 30 fps, and 720p @ 60 fps) but waterproof up to 10 feet and only $150? This is a no brainer! It's the best priced, most feature laden pocket camcorder out there. Hands down better than the flip, sony webbie, or any of the jvcs or samsungs. If this is anything like the Zi8 that got a price increase to $230 after its initial release, I'd suggest getting this as soon as possible! I can't wait to take this to the river! (The video clip I have linked is only taken at 720p video at 30 fps.)

Generally this is a nice digital camcorder. Holds a charge nicely. I had misplaced the unit (found it under my car seat) for several months and the charge was still over 50%. The downside is there is no pause button. Not sure if this is the case with all brands of this type of recording device, but it is frustrating when I want to record hockey action but pause through the lull (like when the ref blows the whistle for an off-sides and retrieves the puck and gets the kids on the correct side of the face-off circle). I have to start a whole new recording session if I want to pause the action. Other than that, I like this unit just fine.
