Worth every penny to upgrade to Kaossilator PRO

For the right person, these may be the best thing ever. For me, it was well worth spending a few dollars more and upgrading to the Pro model. The portability and size of this unit are awesome assets, battery life was well over the estimated 5 hours stated in the instructions, and with a stylus it is very responsive. There are more than 2 dozen various scale sets included in this unit, so you can add to absolutely any song or genre. On a standard major scale, you have access to 2 full octaves before having to try and scale up or down if needed. The 100 included sounds provide a decent variety to start building off of. The three big downfalsl to this unit, in my opinion, are 1) that it is taunted as portable, but there is not an internal way to save what you have created, 2) there is not a slot for external storage, and 3) you only get 1 sound bank/loop to build. If you have this on the go, you would need to tether in a recording unit if you wanted to save your beats for a later time. Comparably, the Pro model does not have a battery power option, does have an SD card slot, doubles the sound samples, has 4 banks to record to, and much much more.

Incredible fun! Great music writing tool!!

I've gotta say, all of the things I've heard about this little box are true. It's just a great musical sketchpad and it's loads of fun to create with! You can lay down as many parts as you want easily. I'm not what you'd call a trained musician. I do have aspirations and a small studio at home. I'm also not super-technical. But the touch square lets you input musical lines (in a lot of scales and any key), drum parts and more, in no time flat. I also love that it's small and battery powered. I can bring it on trips (I do travel quite a bit for work) and I can just jam the hours away on a flight with a set of headphones. One more thing and then I'll stop writing LOL. I showed it to my writing partner and he picked it up. Now, we find ourselves just jamming together in our own little "Kaossilator band".

Nintendo DS for Musicians (and non-musicians)

I've been a musician for a long time and this little machine is super fun to play with. The best thing I can think to compare it to is a Nintendo DS because you can just sit there with headphones on for hours and make crazy sounds. And then people look at you funny because you're jamming out to a device with a little LED display. It has quite the selection of tones ranging from synths to basses to SFX and even some drum beats that are fun to manipulate. Even though I have not found a practical use for this machine as of yet, I am very pleased with the purchase.
