+ setup relatively straightforward + eKeys work well - requirement to have app open for phone to work defeats purpose of not having to use hand to get our keys - keyfob works but is too large - frequent "errant closing" action when using phone - lack of z-wave is limiting (significant reason to go elsewhere @@@@@@@

Used this to replace version 1. Smaller footprint, but doesn't always connect with smart phone.

The only bad thing about this is that in order for it to work the app needs to be open on your phone. Other than that is a great product.

It's an okay smart lock. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it took a while to recognize my phone when I was near it to unlock the door. I had to open the app on my phone in order for it to unlock.

I love the idea of this lock, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. The touch to unlock was slow and sometimes didn't work without my taking my phone out and holding it near the lock. Out of the box it doesn't have z-wave or wifi or anyway to link it up to your smart home, you have to drop another $100 to get those features.

Download the app first to see if your phone is compatible. Only Apple, Samsung, and Pixel are the only phones I'm aware that are compatible. Would not work with my phone and had to return it.

Trying to call the company is a pain... it takes forever to get someone on the phone. The app signs you out often and you don't realize it until you go to get in the house. I was going to order the fob but the reviews for that are horrible. It they corrected these issues this could get all five stars.

If you don't watch the installation video closely the lock will not work. Make sure you watch it 2-3 times and don't miss any steps. Once it's properly installed, it's ideal for large families. Older phones will not allow full functionality of the app.

I had high hopes for this Gen 2 model. Sadly the touch to unlock and lock feature only works some of the time. We have an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus paired to the lock. When the lock fails to function properly putting the phone into airplane mode momentarily fixes the issue half the time. Doubt this issue will be fixed with a firmware update for the lock.

This product is really neat when it works. If I've my phone with me and just touch the lock from the outside, 85% of the time it unlocks. Sometimes the app on my phone has trouble connecting to the lock. So it's good that it also comes with keys so you can open it the old fashioned way if you need to. You can send people access to unlock with their phone, and you can choose times and days when they can have access. I've had some trouble with this feature before. Overall a cool gadget.

Okay, I read the reviews and bought the lock. Once home, I read the directions and downloaded the Kevo app onto my phone. Once installed, the app said it is not compatible with my phone. Looking harder into why the app won't work, I discover that the app only works with older phones. I have a Note 8, and the newest phone the app works with is a Note 4. Then ... I see in the reviews that a fair amount of people are finding the internal moving parts are plastic (like the gears) and have a short service life. I never even took the lock out of the box, and returned it the next day.

So, I was really excited to use this item. I also have a ring doorbell which I heard integrates with the Kevo, but I haven't installed the doorbell yet, so I can't comment on that yet. I can say that the touch functionality of it's frustrating... at least to me. It takes about 10 seconds for the lock to connect with your phone when just walking up and sometimes it doesn't connect at all during the first touch event. Most times it's faster just to use your key and god forbid you accidentally touch the lock when your trying to unlock it with the key. The one handy occasion the touch function is good for is when your hands are full and you can't get to your keys. Outside of that one benefit the lock is as good as any other kwikset dead bolt. I will say that it does have a slight cool factor when you're upstairs and you know who's at the door, so you just open it with your phone.

This product is cool for what it's suppose to do. It's really nice for when you need to give someone access to your home when you're away. It has a neat feature to give that person access for 24hrs only. Draw back is that they need to download the app (which they probably don't already have). Not the biggest deal. What isn't so great is when it has a hard time sensing that your phone is nearby. It will drive you nuts when it doesn't open the first time you try and you have to take your phone out of your pocket. Also, this doesn't integrate well with Google home setup, it's better with the Alexa setup.

    Functions Well, Bit Slow

The Kevo 2nd Gen bolt lock functions well under most circumstances. Install, set-up, and calibration was simple. I'd say 1-2 out of every 20 tries, it fails. My biggest peeve is that it unlocks slower than I'd thought it would. Several times it's taken so long to connect to my phone that it would've been faster just to take my keys out. That said, I don't carry keys anymore because this lock does function well. You need to keep the Kevo app active in the background of your phone in order for it to connect, or you'll have to open the app every time you want to use the lock, which is no better than a key. I have two installed in my house, and they both operate equally as well. Added Kevo Plus so I could use Alexa to control the locks, but she only locks and checks the lock status. Both of which can be easily done within the phone's app. The ability to remote lock/unlock the doors is of no use to me.

    Additional Cost for Wifi Compatibility

I did research this lock before purchasing. I missed the part saying the wifi is not part of the purchase. This only Bluetooth compatibly out of the box and cannot be unlocked from your phone unless you are within 30 feet. For $99.99 more you can purchase the device to make it wifi compatible to unlock from anywhere. Very disappointed about this. They should make the box read it is smart compatible. I do like the lock other than stated above. Easy to install. The lock fit on the existing holes. Was easy to setup and work. Really have had no problems so far.

Chews through AA batteries and replacing is a pain

    Posted
    DigiHome

#1 BATTERY USAGE: This lock goes through AA batteries way too fast. I use very good quality name brand batteries but this lock uses them up quickly because it's battery operated for everything it does. The lock mechanism for opening and closing uses battery power and it's on standby mode all day and night just waiting to detect someone touching the lock which and this uses up the battery. #2 BATTERY COMPARTMENT ACCESS: It wouldn't be that bad (just the cost of the batteries every so often) but Kwikset designed this lock in such a dumb way that to replace the batteries you can't just pop off the cover and switch them out. You have to go get a screw driver and unscrew these 3 teeny tiny itty bittty little screws on both sides and 1 on the bottom. The screw on the bottom is directly over the door handle so it's tough to get the screwdriver in it and you must angle the screwdriver. Over time unscrewing the bottom screw with the bit head angled the way it has to be will strip the screw head rounding it out to the point it won't even catch anymore. These screws are very small an easily lost so if you have carpet below your door be careful not to drop a screw and if you have wood floor, as I do, or tile be prepared for a hunt as well because they do bounce far. #3 FALSE TOUCH LOCKING: I've been inside feet away from the door with the door wide open and no one has been near the door in at least 5 minutes and all of a sudden it will activate and lock. I don't have it set to auto lock after 30 seconds or anything like that and there was no one around to brush by it let alone touch it. It happens fairly often but fortunately I've only noticed it locking but that may be just because if the door is open the lock is in the unlocked position so it only has the option of locking. #4 I'm not sure but I think the Kevo App is also using my phone battery because I'ven'ticed my Galaxy S7 doesn't make it 3/4 of the day anymore and it started right when I got this lock. #5 Any time my phone dies and I've to charge it up and power it back on or if I reset my phone or turn it off then on I've to remember to go back into the Kevo app otherwise it won't work with the lock. The app must always be running for it to work with the lock. #6 I called customer service at 1343 hours and they said they are experiencing a high volume of calls (THERE MUST BE A LOT OF UNHAPPY KEVO CUSTOMERS! @@@@@@@ and they gave me the option to leave a call back number and they would keep my place in line and call me back once my number came up... well I left my number and now it's 1433 hours and I still haven't heard from customer service so that's over a 50 minute wait which as far as customer service goes I would say that's pretty bad. Overall bad design flaws, bad power consumption, and bad customer service... all for the price of about $250+tax so $275?

    Great concept but poor delivery

After reading reviews on the Kwikset Kevo lock I thought I'd give it a shot. The concept of having to just touch the lock for it to unlock was ideal for my kids who always have their cell phone but sometimes forget their keys was the big selling point. I have a Android (LG G6), and the rest of the family has Apple products. The installation was easy and painless, I already have a kwikset deadbolt so rekeying the lock was also a snap! Once the lock was set and the power was hooked up it was time to program the phone. The app was easy to find on both Apple and Android. Apple paired to the lock fast and the account was set. Android on the other hand did NOT support most of the features and it had difficulty pairing. No problem, I'll just get the remote fob for myself, besides the lock is for the ease of the wife and kids. Now it's time to pair the other Apple phones. BOOM! Done. Testing out the lock my son went from the front door around back and tryed the lock. The phone was in his hand and worked as it should. My youngest went to try his phone, following the same path with phone in hand....nothing. Tried again...nothing! My oldest repeated the same pattern and nope, ain't happening. Both phones lost connection and needed to be paired again. When trying to pair the app would not accept the already established log in and password. The account needed to be reset but would not take the original information. After 3 separate accounts and pairings it was time to call it quits! Back you go! Like I said the concept is great but the delivery is very poor.
