    Chews through AA batteries and replacing is a pain

    #1 BATTERY USAGE: This lock goes through AA batteries way too fast. I use very good quality name brand batteries but this lock uses them up quickly because it is battery operated for everything it does. The lock mechanism for opening and closing uses battery power and it's on standby mode all day and night just waiting to detect someone touching the lock which and this uses up the battery. #2 BATTERY COMPARTMENT ACCESS: It wouldn't be that bad (just the cost of the batteries every so often) but Kwikset designed this lock in such a dumb way that to replace the batteries you can't just pop off the cover and switch them out. You have to go get a screw driver and unscrew these 3 teeny tiny itty bittty little screws on both sides and 1 on the bottom. The screw on the bottom is directly over the door handle so it's tough to get the screwdriver in it and you must angle the screwdriver. Over time unscrewing the bottom screw with the bit head angled the way it has to be will strip the screw head rounding it out to the point it won't even catch anymore. These screws are very small an easily lost so if you have carpet below your door be careful not to drop a screw and if you have wood floor, as I do, or tile be prepared for a hunt as well because they do bounce far. #3 FALSE TOUCH LOCKING: I've been inside feet away from the door with the door wide open and no one has been near the door in at least 5 minutes and all of a sudden it will activate and lock. I don't have it set to auto lock after 30 seconds or anything like that and there was no one around to brush by it let alone touch it. It happens fairly often but fortunately I've only noticed it locking but that may be just because if the door is open the lock is in the unlocked position so it only has the option of locking. #4 I'm not sure but I think the Kevo App is also using my phone battery because I've noticed my Galaxy S7 doesn't make it 3/4 of the day anymore and it started right when I got this lock. #5 Any time my phone dies and I have to charge it up and power it back on or if I reset my phone or turn it off then on I have to remember to go back into the Kevo app otherwise it won't work with the lock. The app must always be running for it to work with the lock. #6 I called customer service at 1343 hours and they said they are experiencing a high volume of calls (THERE MUST BE A LOT OF UNHAPPY KEVO CUSTOMERS!) and they gave me the option to leave a call back number and they would keep my place in line and call me back once my number came up... well I left my number and now it's 1433 hours and I still haven't heard from customer service so that's over a 50 minute wait which as far as customer service goes I would say that's pretty bad. Overall bad design flaws, bad power consumption, and bad customer service... all for the price of about $250+tax so $275?

    I was super excited to get this lock on my home. I have a lot of friends that visit from out of town and having the ability for them to let themselves in if they want to stay out late was a dream. It still is a dream. Firstly the lock mechanism was too big to even fit in my door, so after somewhat successfully drilling out a ever so slightly larger hole (and scratching up the door finish in the process) I was able to get it to ‘fit’ in the hole. Then I had to fight with the deadbolt part to even hit the hole of the door jam, and guess what it still hasn’t ever worked. When the Kēvo tries to auto lock it just whirs and clicks until I get frustrated enough to manually lock it. Moving on from that I NEVER got the Kēvo and related phone app to ever talk to each other. I couldn’t even get it to work with three separate phones (all setup after clearing the lock memory and related app data). The lights around the exterior facing lock would never light up. Since this was the only deadbolt I have and now my old lock wouldn’t fit there was no way I was shipping the lock to the MFG for replacement, and since I live alone with a small kid I wasn’t leaving my home unlocked to return this to BBY. Basically I had the pleasure of wasting my money on a fancy standard deadbolt that I can’t replace without replacing my entire front door.

    Great concept but poor delivery

    After reading reviews on the Kwikset Kevo lock I thought I'd give it a shot. The concept of having to just touch the lock for it to unlock was ideal for my kids who always have their cell phone but sometimes forget their keys was the big selling point. I have a Android (LG G6), and the rest of the family has Apple products. The installation was easy and painless, I already have a kwikset deadbolt so rekeying the lock was also a snap! Once the lock was set and the power was hooked up it was time to program the phone. The app was easy to find on both Apple and Android. Apple paired to the lock fast and the account was set. Android on the other hand did NOT support most of the features and it had difficulty pairing. No problem, I'll just get the remote fob for myself, besides the lock is for the ease of the wife and kids. Now it's time to pair the other Apple phones. BOOM! Done. Testing out the lock my son went from the front door around back and tryed the lock. The phone was in his hand and worked as it should. My youngest went to try his phone, following the same path with phone in hand....nothing. Tried again...nothing! My oldest repeated the same pattern and nope, ain't happening. Both phones lost connection and needed to be paired again. When trying to pair the app would not accept the already established log in and password. The account needed to be reset but would not take the original information. After 3 separate accounts and pairings it was time to call it quits! Back you go! Like I said the concept is great but the delivery is very poor.

    Doesn't work as well as I'd hope!

    For starters. I was hoping I could control this deadbolt through my phone, anywhere. In combination with my doorbell camera, I could open the door remotely. You can't. It only works within the few feet of the front door. Even with that, this deadbolt only wants to sometimes work. It's quite frustrating when you just tap the deadbolt to open, as it should, when you have your hands full of groceries and it doesn't work. In all, I honestly think a regular deadbolt would be what I would have gone with after my experience with this Kevo one. If it worked, just about every time, I might actually enjoy it.

    First product I received was DOA, After long wait times and poor business hours when I went to reach them it was a delayed process. As soon as I received a Certified replacement from the manufacturer, it was faulty as well so I decided to see if I could repair as I am tech savvy myself. The circuit board and pins of the product were not correctly aligned, and missing screws. Once I corrected the circuitry problem, it still did not want to register my device and instead of receiving another "certified" product from a company that stands behind shipping inadequate production, I opted for the more expensive competitor.

    Bought this lock because it's supported by Nest. OK was working great on the iPhone SE and Android 6P. Few days ago I changed over to the Oneplus 3T and can't load the app! It's not supported! On the box said it has Android support, but only for the phones Kevo approves. Reached out to the customer service, and they say use the key fob for how ever long it takes them. So I have a worthless $300 package mounted to the door and router. should have gone with my intuition of getting the August Smart Lock. At the time Kevo offered a little cost savings and Nest support. That Nest support and cost savings bought me a worthless lock.

    Don't forget your normal key

    It worked for about 2 months and then suddenly decided to not react to touch period. I understand if it was searching for a signal but it won't even light up anymore. I can fix it temporarily by taking the batteries out and then putting them back in, but then it does it again. Refuses to connect to the phones and won't even give a status light on the lock. Sure will lock the door behind you though and trap you outside if you forgot your actual key. Bringing it back to best buy and returning it. Hopefully to find a system that has wifi built in and not having to buy an extra 99 dollar module

    I have purchased tons of smart home wifi items in the past few years, this is the worst item I have ever purchased. If your deadbolt catches in the slightest bit this item will not work, that's a bad thing for anyone who lives in a climate that varies 100 plus degrees throughout the year. It may work in the summer and not work in the winter until you adjust it. The app is slow and works about 50% of the time. I have google fiber and a Linksys Velop router, so I know it isn't my equipment. WORTHLESS!

    I really wanted this to work. It was a long install process, and the device at first wouldn't recognize my WIFi. once it finally found it, the app required an update/sync with the device. The two never could find each other. the touch portion would turn colors and the lock would sometimes engage on its own. Calls to customer service at KwikSet were impossible on a weekend. I lived with an expensive lock that only worked with a key for 2 weeks and then I returned it. Went with a less high tech keypad instead. Best buy did not respond after my initial complaint about this experience.

    it worked fine for about 6 weeks. Now suddenly I went to open it this morning from the outside, and it didn’t do anything. So I opened with the key. It went CRAZY. started unlocking and locking continuously and it has been doing this for the last two hours with the worst humming noise. No customer service. Neighbors are all outside wondering what the noise is. Cannot leave my house because I cannot lock it, and this thing is impossible to disable.

    Got this in order to use it for house rentals. Absolutely the worst idea ever. I am better off hiding the key under a rock out by the door! Eats batteries like no tomorrow. Doesn't matter if they are dollar store batteries or $20 batteries- they never last. (Pain to replace, also.) In order to unlock the bolt, the app must be open or else you stand there for at minimum 2 minutes. Easier to just get the key out from under said rock in comment above. An absolute waste of money. Just get the combination one. Save yourself the hassle!

The batteries in your Kevo deadbolts should last around 1-year with normal use if your locks are running through batteries fast than that please give our team a call at 1-800-327-5625 so that we may troubleshoot with you. To increase the consistency of your Touch to Open experience please try uninstalling the Kevo App, restarting your device, and reinstalling the App. After doing so also perform the recalibration procedures as outlined in the "Help" section of the app. We've found that this helps most users to have near perfect operation of their Kevo Deadbolt.

    I had multiple 1st gen Kevos. This 2nd gen is actually worse than the 1st gen. 2nd gen does not come with any dongle. To make it worse, replacing battery on 2nd gen require tool(screw driver). To replace battery on 1st gen, you just need to pop off the back cover. Yes it is make the 1st gen bulkier but I choose simplicity, since if you are using your Kevo in daily basis you know how power hungry is this lock

    I had high hopes for this Gen 2 model. Sadly the touch to unlock and lock feature only works some of the time. We have an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus paired to the lock. When the lock fails to function properly putting the phone into airplane mode momentarily fixes the issue half the time. Doubt this issue will be fixed with a firmware update for the lock.

    Rarely works as promised

    I was really excited to have a smart deadbolt and not carry keys around anymore. Installation is relatively easy. Unfortunately, it rarely ever unlocks unless I open the app and unlock from the app. The app crashes every single time I open it. It’s only saving grace is that it does accept a real key which I needed once so far when the app completely failed to work and luckily I wasn’t locked out because I keep the real key in my car. Very disappointed.

    The lock seems had a very nice features but order it online and bestbuy sent me a refurbished, repaired and defective item. I checked the mechanism of the lock stickers from the screws are already removed indication that the lock was already opened and the figured out the screws are not the same.

    I am on my third lock for my backdoor and it is still having issues. It works for a while and then gets stuck (normally locked which is very inconvenient when you are outside wanting to get in). My front door lock works fine. To date the failure rate of my Kēvo products has been about 66%.

    The first lock we ordered online...motor didn't work according to manufacturer. They sent us a replacement..worked for about a day and stopped working as well. The day it worked...was very hard to get to open and close like we wanted with our phones. Decided this wasn't the product for us.

    I had been using the August Smart Home lock which worked very well but was kind of big & clunky so I wanted to try out something a little sleeker. Kevo has a beautiful design but wouldn't work, terrible product that I wound up returning in three or four days.

    Had problems right out of the box. Unit went crazy just keep locking motor running. I had to pull battery pack to stop motor. Replaced unit with Schlage lock with keypad and keylock. Works great! Schlage also works flawlessly with Alexa!
