L.A. Confidential 20th anniversary edition blu ray Curtis Hanson and Brian Hegeland along with Dante Spinotti behind cameras adapted one of the best novels of James Ellroy to one of the finest Hollywood film of the nineties. Full of stars (Oscar winner Russell Crowe, wonderful David Strathairn, beautiful Kim Bassinger and many more) wonderful set pieces, mystery and romance this neo-noir pays homage to the best film of the best Hollywood genre: Film noir. Shot with a magnificent color palette L.A Confidential was recognized as one of the best shot film of Hollywood history by the American Society of cinematographers. This blu ray edition by Fox renders the film color with accurate respect. It’s a wonderful home video presentation, especially if you re thinking of upgrading your tv set to 4k and fears the wrinkles that show on Dvd. Also it could be found on good price. This blu ray offers a really great price-value ratio.

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL has all the trapping of a well directed film that was shot with that old Hollywood feel. It was like being taken back to more nostalgic times when everything in life was tailor made. Like the films of old I had the experience of seeing this one with a new set of eyes. I owned It on DVD but It pales in comparison to seeing the Blu-Ray version of it. Especially when you have a good 4K player and big screen that does a good job of upconverting the content. It was a great movie to see in the theater when first released in 1997 and a even more cinematic experience to enjoy at home present day. I'm loving these new releases and revamped versions of Blu-Ray & 4K movies. This with out a doubt should be in your top 100 If you're a collector.

What struck me the most is that, even though it's set in 1947, there's still the same problems we're facing today. Racism, bigotry, political corruption, media sensationalism, police brutality, sexual exploitation, you name it. I also had no idea that 1947 Los Angeles was such rich ground for storytelling until after I saw this movie. Between it, the game LA Noire, the second season of Agent Carter, and who knows what else, you'd almost expect to see these characters bump into one another. Also, a little trivia: there was a brief HBO TV-spinoff at one point, that would've followed Kevin Spacey's character, only he was played by Keifer Sutherland. They filmed a pilot, but it never went to series.

    Great Film All Around

LA Confidential is probably one of those films that people tend to forget how great it was. It was overshadowed by Titanic during the award ceremony, but this a great fill all around with great performances, an intricate, interwoven, interesting plot, writing that doesn't hit you over the head with its social commentary or spoon feed you everything you need to know through exposition. I owned this film on DVD and I decided to watch it on my new 60' TV and it was hard to not see how poorly it looked, so I bought the Blu-Ray and I really like the way it looks and even sounds now when watching it on my entertainment system. The special features are great.

This has long been one of my favorite films, and when I heard that a 20th anniversary special edition was set to arrive, I checked it out immediately. However, when I examined the features on the special edition compared to this version, the only difference I could come up was the cover. And the price. . .by quite a few bucks. This copy turned out to be a great price for nothing other than a cosmetic alteration.

Very well made movie, smart, to the point talking except the reaction of Crowe based on women’s abuse which I think was exaggerated in order to follow the plots sequence. A lot of good actors. Very realistic.

This is about the underside of Los Angeles, late 40's...drugs, prostitution, corruption, racism and violence (did I miss a vice?). Everyone plays a part in this tangled web...good, bad...who knows! A fascinating story with some well-known actors...well paced, some action...not a dull moment as you follow along to find out how everyone's involved and who'll come out on top in the end. Excellent!

Critics and moviegoers enjoyed this period piece about 1950s LA and 3 very different officers investigating a murder and corruption, An all star cast and based on a book by James Ellroy. Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey and Kim Basinger in an Academy Award nominated performance breathe life into this mystery.

It’s worth buying but I wouldn’t buy it unless you purchase it in a bulk order. The shipping and handling fee was my only mistake I made when I purchased it. If you are lucky enough to find it at a store, then definitely buy it.

Guy Pierce, Russel Crowe, and Kevin Spacey are magnificent. If you like cops and robbers then this is the movie for you. The nostalgia, the pomp and circumstance are indicative of an era when men were men and dames were dames. Kim Basinger is wonderful and sexy as ever.

Picture quality on the blu ray disc is very good, considering the year that this transfer came out. Can't imagine anyone reading this review has not yet seen this film. But if not, and you're into great story telling with a solid cast, then pick this one up.

LA Confidential is a great crime drama. Its based on an Elroy James story and is a period piece set in 1950's Los Angeles. A Stellar cast makes this a mesmerizing journey into the film noir school of film making.Russel Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Danny Devito and an amazing Kim Bassinger will keep you going until the thrilling climax.

This is old movie I watched before. And it's still good. I like movie who raises awareness of government corruption. Good cop, Bad cop and someone who really sacrified their life for the good of people. Kim Bassinger is very smart, beautiful and good character.

It took me way too long to watch this film. Since I love anything noir and 40s and 50s related, I knew that I would eventually get to it. When I finally bought it, it has become one of my favorite films that depict the era.

I'm a sucker for gritty movies and TV shows set in the sprawling environs of "LA." Chinatown, the most recent season of True Detective, and films going back for decades. I don't like to watch many movies more than once, but it's fun to re-watch this one every few years due to the great sets, costumes, acting, and directing.

I picked this up because its a great movie and it was on sale. I don't think it will benefit much from the Blue-ray format but the sound quality may improve. What more could be said?
