    Works well - Frustrating setup

    Posted .

This unit works well and is a good value for the money. Setting it up and getting it working was extremely frustrating. First off there is NO documentation with this device. The box suggests going to a web site to register. While this eventually worked for me it was extremely frustrating and time consuming. First off DO NOT plug the USB transmitter in until the registration process tells you to. I had to turn off the my CA firewall and CA virus software to get the downloaded software to install. Be aware that you have to register both the USB transmitter as well as the display/receiver. Setting up your prefered forcast location is also done as part of the web based registration process. A PDF manual can be found on the web which explains the function of the buttons but not much else useful.

    Works As Expected

Alot of companies are directing you to their web-sites for on-line instructions and software downloads. I found this easy to install but be mindful you will need to turn off your internet protection for the gateway to communicate the registration information. I like the product.

OK after you bludgeon it into installing

    Posted .

This is a simple but useful little B/W LCD two day weather station. But there are no installation instructions nor CD in the box. Fine, he thinks, must have an autoinstaller on the USB dongle. Au contraire. You have to go to the web site and download the software, which they don't bother to tell you, and which installs by the intuitive name "USB ERF Gateway". The activation/setup is then a bizarre combination of settings in the software interface and on the web site, with cryptic messages displaying on the station all the while. Lest ye think this reviewer a clueless noob, I'm a systems engineer with 25 years experience and a BS in Information Systems.
