Wireless Pro. Weather Station - take a raincheck..

    Posted .

The Weather Channel Wireless Professional Weather Station arrived as ordered and the set up was very easy. The instructions were easy to follow. I set up the entire system inside on a desk to check for connections and ensure proper functioning. Everything went well. The system was installed outdoors and worked as expected. The only problem with installation was that the plastic mounting piece broke very easily. I had to improvise to secure the wind speed indicator, but I was able to install it and it worked fine. After realizing that I should have located the equipment much higher (for accurate wind speeds) I disassembled the unit and reinstalled everything 3 feet higher than my rooftop (as suggested). After this repositioning, the outdoor temperature/humidity/wind speed functions all failed. I was careful with the hard plastic parts, knowing they were fragile, and I had no difficulty repositioning the unit, so I do not believe I damaged the unit in any way. This was disheartening, being a nutty weather enthusiast and all... so I spend about an hour rechecking connections, ensuring fresh batteries were used, installing batteries in the sequence indicated by the instructions and any other variables I could address to get the darn thing working. No luck. It was dead, dead, dead. Unfortunately, I didn't save any packing materials, so I didn't even think about returning the weather station. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the price tag, and it was far too fragile for anything but the lightest possible use. I doubt that it would have survived even one winter had it not malfunctioned. This was a very disappointing experience.

    Great When It Works!!!

La Crosse (the mfg.) now wants $40.00 to test the unit. Our intension was to give realtme weather updates for the local VFD. during wildland fire season. Just at the start of the last 2 seasons the thing quit on us. Maybe the unit can't take the heat. The last time we contacted them about this problem, we were redirected to there sales dept. I don't think so, we will cut our losses.

    weather station

Unit seems to be value for money but eats batteries. Outside transmitter has corrostion on connections and I tried to clean it to see if I could fix it. Totally broken and unit is only 12 month old. Shame to waste my money and then be forced to send the unit to the trash can. I would not buy this unit but had received it as a gift. I WOULD NOT GIVE THIS AS A PRESENT.

    Bad, Bad, Bad

The maker will only respond with stock e-mails. I have gotten zero service. The batteries do not last in the thermo-hygro. When replacing batteries all data is lost and the entire unit must be reset. I am using a set every 28 days. I want this product to work. Saddly the maker does not.

    DOA

    Posted .

Regretfully it was DOA. Battery contacts showed signs of corrosion. I put batteries in and tried it anyway.. Nothing. I would rather have one that connects up with my PC anyway. So I'll shop for another model elsewhere. I got my WS2310 about 5 years ago and it's been great. But the Temp/Hydro unit gave out on me.

    Cheap Plastic Parts

    Posted .

Decent product. The mount is CHEAP PLASTIC that breaks VERY easily when attaching the mounting bracket to a mast using the U bolt provided. I guess it's cheaper to replace cheap plastic parts over and over than make the mount out of good ol' metal!

    good home-professional station!

I found this product to work well, with fairly accurate results! I found, though, that if the station (namely the rain guage) is not mounted securely, and it is allowed to be shaken around (by people, wind, etc) then it may say it is raining when it is (obviously) not. other than that, I have found no real flaws, and I think it works great!

    Works fine

I had mine up and running in less than an hour. I just changed the batteries a month ago so they made it about 9 months. Not bad for being outside in the Alaskan winter. The largest wind so far was about 45MPH lost the data due to dead batteries, There are no mounting brackets that will help in the kit but one trip to Home Depot and it's strong as it could be. In short, mine works fine.
