Solid effort, but not ground braking

    |
    Posted .

Bands have a hard time. Do we stick with the winning formula and ride it out (see Braking Benjamin, Sevendust) knowing that our fans will eventually quit buying albums because they sound similar to earlier work or go out and expand (see Rush, Opeth, Katatonia) and lose those fans who only love a certain period. Chevelle has gone with the former. You know what you are getting with new Chevelle. I was pleased with "Hats Off to the Bull" as a refreshing step up within the same formula. After 10+ spins of La Gorgola, it is good but other than "An Island", nothing has really grabbed me the way previous work has. If you are a newcomer to Chevelle, this will blow your mind, (great riffs, intriguing lyrics, etc.) but if you are familiar with their previous work, expect more of the same.

Chevelle make great tunes that catch you off guard

I can almost remember the first time I heard their song 'The Red', it had me on the verge of an adrenaline overload. Over the years the band has released some very amazing songs, that do catch you off guard and make you wanna crank up your stereo. Chevelle, will be a band that hopefully never sell out in a money hungry way, and will continue to impress me with each album.

    More Great Chevelle

    |
    Posted .

If you have liked Chevelle's other albums, you will like this one. They really haven't changed their style much over the years, and that's no exception here. I must say, while I like their music, some variation from album to album might be nice. The back half of this album feels less exciting for 2 reasons. First, there are 2 slower songs, which is fine if you are into that. Second, I also feel as though the back end is also less original, recycling some of their older ideas (as I mentioned before). Overall, a good album.

    Great album for rock fans

Been a fan of Chevelle since the beginning, and have always enjoyed there music. New album still pretty much the same as the others, so if you like previous albums you will probably enjoy this one. Only a few things I didn't really care about. The flow seems off because the first few tracks are heavy and really good, but after that the rest of the album slows down and gets quiet and never really picks back up. The other thing is that I really never understood what the lyrics were in most of the songs. Anyway still like it.

    One Of Their Best

Have been a fan for years. Their albums never disappoint, though sometimes they leave me wanting a little more. This one seems to come the closest to fulfilling my dreams of what a monumental band Chevelle can become. Only a couple songs left me a little underwhelmed. What surprised me is that some of the standout tracks are the slower selections.

A great album from start to finish

I was disappointed with Hats Off to the Bull so I was leery of La Gargola. I even thought that Take Out the Gunman was good, but not an extremely strong first cut. A couple buddies said it was good so I took a chance- they were right. The mellow tracks are moody and the upbeat stuff (Hunter Eats Hunter, Choking Game) flat out rock. No filler/ all killer.

    Chevelle is better than ever

Chevelle is better than ever. Love this album so much it is on repeat on my Ipod and phone since I bought it. Their music, to me, seems heavier/harder than previous albums but still has that quality that is uniquely Chevelle. They continue to put out great music and that is why they will continue to be my favorite band.

    Another amazing album from Chevelle

Every album from Chevelle explores something new and different. La Gargola is probably the heaviest album in over 10 years from the band and it is amazing from start to finish. Highly recommend "Hunter Eats Hunter", "One Ocean", "Ouija Board",...oh forget it I'm gonna end up writing the whole album down. Just buy it!

    Must have for Chevelle fan.

This album is one if not the hardest, deepest one chevelle has done. The lyrics are dark and the music follows. Not too many true singles on the record, but I don;t thing Chevelle was looking for that. "One Ocean" might be a radio play, but really that's it. If you like Chevelle, you will not be disappointed.

    Chevelle never really disappoints

Have always loved this band, really heavy without breaking out of the hard rock genre, big bass drops, great song structure and song writing. My favorite trait of Chevelle has always been the quiet to in your face transitions - as a die hard metal head these are the guys I play when I have guests in my car.

I am a huge fan of Chevelle and have gone to see them every chance I get when they are in Houston. They came 4/10 and I was there and was lucky to hear them play their new stuff. It is just what I like and in true Chevelle form they give you what you want to hear. Every song on here is great.

Another great album from an awesome band

This is another solid album from Chevelle. It has a good heavy vibe to it throughout the cd. Hunter Meets Hunter is an awesome song. The lyrics are pretty good and the music is awesome. They used some interesting sounds on this album. Not a big fan of the one ocean song but outside that the cd is really good.

    Another strong CD from Chevelle!

Along with Three Days Grace, I am pretty well convinced that Chevelle seems unable to put out a bad album. Ouija Board's opening bell cacophony followed by grungy guitar and lyrics at speed made me want to step on my vehicle's accelerator pedal. Many thanks to the brothers Loeffler!

Another great rock album by Chevelle

Harder music than previous albums makes for a great hard rock addition to the Chevelle catalog. Several songs contain long hard jam sessions by the brothers. Thought provoking lyrics ands ideas. Great sound all throughout the album. At least five or six great tunes on here. Must have.

What an amazing outing by Chevelle with this amazing album. La Gargola hits you from the moment you put it in until the CD concludes. Nothing feels forced and you can tell the amount of time that was put into this album. Highly recommended to any true fan of rock music.

These guys continue to get better and better with each record. The music is very easy to get into, makes you always keep your head bobbing. Chevelle is underrated these days in regards to a band who is always busy and always cranking out GREAT tunes. Buy this record.

One of my favorite songs on this CD is "Take Out The Gunman", which is a big hit on the rock charts for a while & having had success throughout their careers with songs such as " The Red", "The Clincher", etc.

    Chevelle with a twist

    |
    Posted .

The Chevelle you've always loved with some change of pace that is really interesting. "One Ocean" is something new and quite enjoyable. I'm sure you'll be hearing a (radio edit) version soon. It's a bit long for today's commercial radio so I'd imagine a minute gets chopped off.

    Their best album in years

After a few less than stellar albums, Chevelle releases their best album since Wonder What's Next. Great melodies, guitar riffs, and lyrics. Overall, a much heavier and darker album than their other ones but diehard fans will not be disappointed

Possibly not as good as some of their other CD but if you like Chevelle, and I do, then it is a must. Only listened to it all twice so far. I usually have to play a CD several times to get to know it and really like it.
