Conventional, but still exciting and entertaining

Lakeview Terrace focuses on the progressive volatile relationship between an interracial couple that moves into a middle class neighborhood, and their neighbor who happens to be a police officer (Samuel Jackson). What starts off as a typical next-door-neighbor relationship progressively spirals out of control. Race plays a central thematic role throughout their conflict as this movie examines a more tenuous form of racism that is arguably still pervasive in our society. Some may feel this movie is a bit on the preachy side, but nevertheless, it still does a solid job in maintaining a high level of action and excitement. What really makes this movie enjoyable are the believable performances by the cast, particularly Samuel Jackson. The gradual escalation of tension between the neighbors is also portrayed in a believable way that many people can probably identify with. Overall, this movie follows a fairly conventional format that many may like, while others will argue that it's too banal, formulaic, and predictable (if you prefer more original, artsy independent films, look elsewhere). Regardless, solid performances by its cast make this movie worth watching. Enjoy!

My wife and I loved this movie! This movie touched a nerve with my wife and I. Not because of the racial issues, (which are a big problem in our country today), but because of the out-of-control 'men in blue'. We suffered a traumatic unforgetable incident at the hands of some violent out-of-control cops, and we were the same race. (Ironically, we lived at Oakview Terrace at the time.) This film sends a big message, not only about racism, but how our law enforcement are given the power to do whatever they want, without repercussion. After our incident, my wife and I are now terrified and view cops as the enemy. It's not suppose to be this way! I highly recommend this film, not just because it's a good movie, but as a wake up call! Other related films are Unlawful Entry, Pride and Glory, and Crash.

When a interracial couple(Patrick Wilson,Kerry Washington) move in next door to a racist, bitter cop(Samuel L.Jackson) things get out of hand.He gets joy out of tormenting the two because he's an LAPD officer. The plot is a little redundant with the final act where, well if you seen it once you seen it a thousand times, and I don't need to tell you what happens.Jackson in this movie is a man you'll hate as much as his neighbors do.Showing up where he's not wanted. All in all this is a rent I don't think that this type of movie has a lot of replay value.
