Heavy bottle is smaller that you think, cap heavy as well. I am not sure about the health part of it, but at that price still using a micro USB

This is a pretty good purchase and a great investment. It’s self cleaning and keeps water cold for a long time. I’ve been using it everyday. The self cleaning feature is great for getting water from the gym’s water fountain. The only thing I would’ve like is a pop top instead of a twist top. Beside that I like it and I am using it daily. Feels funny charging a thermal cup.

A water bottle to the next level

I was very skeptical about this bottle. I mean the price alone can draw criticisms and I initially thought who would really buy this at this price? But when you think about it and the tech that has been packed in this water bottle, I can see where the price and the reason why this was created.
The packaging is perfect and minimal. A charging cord, booklets and the bottle. The rechargable batteries in the cap and the use of a micro USB is very well done. It is waterproof like the modern phones of now. I have used it for about a week and I am impressed. It has maintained the "fresh" smell without issue. The cold water I put in the morning lasts all day long. The literature says cold liquids can stay cold for a good 24 hours. I can see that but only if you do not constantly open and drink from it. Doing that, you will get a full 12 hours of cold water. You can use this with hot liquids, but using it is tricky because if you use any types of sweeteners like sugar, you will need to clean it really good to get the residuals.
The usage of the light to clean the water seem to work well. You have to understand this is not a water filter, rather a purifier with light. This will not filter out any sentiments, just eradicate the bad stuff that can seep into stale bottles, especially if the bottle is in the sun with a combination of heat.
The only "bad" things I can really see in this is the price for one, but the use of rechargable batteries and the waterproofing of the electronics justify it to me. The other little issue is that this has no handle or loop to fasten it to a bag to secure it. It is an expensive bottle even though it looks like a normal water bottle of sorts. But still a screw carbringer or similar would be awesome for some peace of mind.
Would I recommend this? I say yes if you really use water bottles every day in your daily routine. The cleaning of the bottle is not needed as frequently and the most you really need to clean is the cap because the light really cannot light itself so there's that.

Man This Thing is Great for Traveling

We got the Larq 17 ounce water purification bottle just in time for a protracted trip across the western U.S.. As we didn't want to load the car down with water bottles and/or the remnants of them, I decided what a great time to test out the Larq. As most places still have water fountains, filling the Larq was easy. I would never consider drinking directly from those water fountains, but I trusted the Larq to keep me safe. I was not disappointed. It really did an excellent job at keeping me from any type of stomach distress. It has two modes, normal and adventure, the difference being the amount of time the UV light illuminates to sanitize the water and bottle. Normal is for known, commercial or regular water sources. Adventure is when you are using unknown or questionable water sources, and provides longer UV sanitation. The Larq also has a self-cleaning mode that activates every two hours for 10 seconds to keep the Larq clean of any "baddies" that try and build a home inside. The top of the Larq glows different colors and patterns to show the current status (cleaning, safety modes and high temperature). The bottle keeps cold water cold for at least 15 hours (verified by my use) and hot for 12 hours (didn't try the hot fluid). A charge usually lasts a in normal use (which is true) and the bottle will begin flashing when it requires a charge. Mine fully charged in about an hour. It also has a "travel mode" that shuts down the Larq to prevent the cleaning and deactivates the self-cleaning mode, so if you don't plan on using it for a while. The Larq will NOT change the taste of the water per se, but helps guarantee the water inside is safe from causing you gastric issues. We completed the trip, using the Larq and water fountains located and various stops along the way. No issues and very happy with it's use. No smells or growth of foreign "baddies" trying to grow inside. We are planning an international trip next year and will give it a full workout then. So far, the Larq has proven itself to be a excellent replacement for a carload of plastic bottles and provide safe, cold drinking water during an extended drive. Highly recommended!

Does it work? There’s no way to know!

I didn’t start really drinking a lot of water until very recently, so insulated water bottles were, for a long time, not really my thing. Coffee, though, I drink that ALL THE TIME. One of the unfortunate habits that followed me from my coffee mug to my water bottle of choice was my tendency to not wash it frequently enough.
I know that sounds really gross...the idea of someone not washing a coffee mug at least once per day. But for me, it’s normal. Now, I don’t use it without a thorough rinse with hot water, and often times I will run my hand over the surface (inside and out) to get rid of any left over coffee residue. I don’t put cream or sugar in my coffee, so it’s literally ONLY coffee and water that goes into my mug. And it’s with this justification that I rarely wash my coffee mug.
But, like I said, my tendency to not wash my drinking vessels carried over when I started drinking a steady amount of water each day. My water bottle of choice had a drink-through lid, with a somewhat annoying pass-thru mechanism activated via button. It’s annoying, ironically, because it’s insanely difficult to clean thoroughly, which undoubtedly further enables my bad cleaning habits.
So then I hear about LARQ. Self cleaning—sounds like it was designed for me! It’s a standard double-walled water bottle with a screw on lid, nothing special there. But in the lid hides a small UV light that helps to keep the bottle clean and also “sterilize” the water. I don’t imagine it kills all bacteria, but the claim is that the “280nm UV-C light neutralizes up to 99.9999% of harmful, odor-causing bacteria (in Adventure Mode).
There are things, though, after using the LARQ that are misleading here. First, that quote appears on the exterior of the box, under a heading that reads “Pure water in 60 seconds.” But, in the instruction manual, what is called “Adventure Mode” has a 3-minute cycle, not 60 seconds. So, either the claim is wrong, or it is intentionally misleading. I don’t like that.
Second, and I know I’m getting nit picky here— but is the bacteria harmful, while other bacteria are odor-causing? Or is it only odor-causing bacteria which is further described as harmful (perhaps to the LARQ’s marketing)? The included instruction manual, by the way, words it slightly differently.
Let’s ignore semantics for a moment and get back to the point of the thing: “Self-cleaning & worry free,” says the box. “...turns on automatically every 2 hours” to “clean.” So I thought, let’s put it to the test. Let’s leave a bit of water in it for a couple of days, and see what happens...
Let’s say, it wasn’t odor free, it wasn’t worry free, and it certainly didn’t seem to be clean...at least not clean enough for me to drink out of it.
I’m not saying LARQ is lying about their product. I’m also not arguing the efficacy of UV-C light—I’m not smart enough for that. What I do know, though, is that water left in a water bottle for multiple days can get rank, and this is true for the LARQ just like any other bottle.
But what about “active” drinking, you ask? Well, every time I refilled the LARQ, I hit the purify button (using Normal Mode and Adventure Mode somewhat interchangeably), waited for the cycle to complete, and drank my water like I always do. And it tasted, well, the same.
Anyone I talked to about the product asked the same thing: “Did the manufacturer provide some sort of test strip or kit to show the efficacy of the light?” Well, no, they didn’t, although that would be a great idea. I couldn’t justify trying to grow my own bacteria just to test it out, so there’s really no way to know if it’s working.
And therein lies the problem. If light inside were just a tuned blue LED, I would have no way to know. There’s nothing apparently different about the water before and after—by sight, smell or taste—so at the end of the day it appears to be a slightly gimmicky water bottle that also costs $100.
Two things it does extremely well: it looks great, and it keeps my water cold for a very, very long time. I can appreciate that—but those two things alone, for $100, just doesn’t do it for me.
I may also be on a sort of island here—maybe I just have a really great water source and this could be a useful product for someone who has less reliable water...but for me, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense, and not having any way to verify the results leaves me wondering if anything is happening at all.

LARQ’s technology is great and improves the tap water taste in my opinion. The UV battery life is impressive and lasted two weeks under my constant use of the filtering technology. Cold water stayed cold endlessly even while out in 90 degree weather. (It can keep hot water hot as well for a period of time.) I wish the bottle was bigger since with water this good, I find I’m consuming it much faster!
