    Based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper about events surrounding the Revolutionary War in the Adirondack Region of upstate New York. This is the area that I grew-up in and currently live in, so the beautiful mountain scenery depicted was like I was going on a weekend hike. For the historians, 1757 Fort William Henry seige and subsequent massacre is depicted with the French and local militia and Indians vs. the British and their Indian allies are highlighted. This is not a movie for the youngsters, with much graphic violence- but most agree historically correct for the descriptions of the events. The acting is superb across the board with Daniel Day-Lewis in the starring role. Great action flic even if you don't care about the historical connections.
