Incredible and Beautiful Steelbook 4K Release

Once only available as part of the Columbia Classics Collection Volume One box set, Lawrence of Arabia arrives in a standalone release on 4K UHD in this beautiful Steelbook. To each their own, as some dislike the design, but I feel it is fitting and beautiful with a metallic paint that sparkles in the light. The transfer here is every bit as good as the reviews around the Internet had said...it is demo-worthy. It's simply astounding. From the opening scene with Lawrence on the motorcycle the HDR brings life and depth to the picture with colors looking vibrant, yet natural. Film grain is intact, but not too heavy, although, it can be heavier in some scenes and visible in the skies, just as it should be. The detail is amazing and the desert looks incredible. This movie on 4K is a true sight to behold. An epic for the ages. The audio here is no slouch either. Dolby Atmos enhances the audio without detracting from the work of the original. At least, that's my take on it. I cannot recommend this release enough...if you can get your hands on it.

Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, You must learn its discipline. For no one – no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts. This you can trust.

Finally Sony/Columbia has released this stand alone 4K multidisc set of arguably one of the greatest films ever made, and the audio and video quality live up to and potentially exceed expectations for this much anticipated event. UHD finally allows for fully realizing the potential of the presentation, and though it deserves to be seen if ever possible in 70mm or digital projection on as large a screen as possible, it is above just about any film in history deserving of a revered place among anyone’s disc collection. Revel in it for the first or umpteenth time. Highest rating.

"LAWRENCE OF ARABIA" in 4K is excellent! Great sound as it now is in ATMOS sound. Picture looks fantastic!: sharp, colorful. Best this movie ever looked. And was inexpensive at BEST BUY, which BEST BUY is the best store and online to purchase items. (Just wish Columbia Pictures would release the other movies individually from the COLUMBIA CLASSIC - VOLUME 1) (and I wish DR ZHIVAGO would be released in 4K and in ATMOS. Anyway, buy this movie! IT IS A CLASSIC! and won BEST PICTURE! I already own the laserdisc, and the DVD, and the bluray, now the 4k bluray.

The movie itself is a masterpiece and watching it recently reminded me how ahead of its time it was...not just in terms of the story, but in terms of editing/cinematography. The Graduate (1967) for instance was praised for pioneering many editing techniques that I actually saw on display in this movie, which preceded it by five years. As for the 4K transfer, it's simply stunning. There are sequences that feel like they were filmed yesterday. That's how good they look. It's probably the best this film will ever look. I highly recommend it.

The 4K version of Lawrence of Arabia is stunning!!! I watched the making of this edition first, about how Sony people painstakingly remastered this movie. That showed the details of sand on Peter O'Toole's face when he was by the Suez Canal. If you're a movie buff you already own this movie. But if you have a 4K TV and blu-ray player you owe it to yourself to buy this edition. (And a good speaker system.) You won't regret it.

There is no denying the 4K is a great picture and this is a great story (not withstanding just how much of that story is truly factual) The intent of this review is to forewarn buyers of the strange black period on both 4K disks. After the opening credits both disks go black for some 4 minutes, although music plays. Initially I thought my disks were faulty, but both seem to cover the entire film - so don't return them, just fast forward through that initial period :)

OMG I have seen this movie a dozen times, but never like THIS! 4K UHD images are crisp, colors are rich and vibrant, HDR black levels are inky with great detail and the remastered audio ...the AUDIO is a sublime all encompassing Dolby Atmos which is active on all channels and encompasses the viewer in the sounds of the desert, the feel of war, and the sweeping classic cinematic score! This is one upgrade not to miss!

One of best movies I've watched as a kid, young adult, and now. I wish they made more epic movies like Lawrence of Arabia. I love the art work on this steelbook. It's one of the reasons I collect steelbooks, for the art work. The image online doesn't do it justice. It has almost a metallic like finish to it. This thing is beautiful.

This 4K transfer for the 60th Aniv. of this classic film is beyond stunning! This is the film that made another Hollywood famous director want to get into film making (Martin Scorsese). The desert scenes are more detailed and stunning than ever before with this magnificent 4K transfer. This is a "must-have" film for any collection!

David Leans 65mm Lawrence of Arabia now in 4K Is a wonder to behold, and it’s only better now with the right screen (BIG) because the source material was 65 mm… The 4K brings the resolution out on Home video in a way we’ve never seen it before. Essential

A superb and visually stunning film. This movie speaks for itself. One can only marvel at it. A beautiful film made during a different time when epics truly felt like epics. The 4K transfer is gorgeous. Takes ones breath away. Folks, This 4K disc needs to be in your collection. It's just simply a no brainer.

AMAZING transfer. Been wasting on this to land on 4K for a long time and it definitely it one that has one of the best transfers for a film this old I’ve ever seen. Wonderful art on the steelbook as well. Highly recommended!
