Like hearing it again for the first time

The more interviews I’ve seen with Jimmy Page talking about the Led Zeppelin remasters, the more I’ve grown curious. Is the sound truly better on the original tracks? Is the companion disc of extras worth it? Yes and yes. My Zeppelin CDs are from the original releases more than 25 years ago. This presented a good opportunity to get better audio quality. I’m one who always appreciate the acoustic nature of Zep III and made sure that this was one of the first Deluxe Editions I acquired. The companion disc is excellent. The alternate and rough takes prompt you to almost hang on each note to detect what’s different. Doesn’t matter if you prefer that or the finished version because it causes true fans to hear the music again for the first time. My favorites are the tunes like Friends with no vocals. Jennings Farm Blues and Key to the Highway are worth it, too. These are cheap enough to make them accessible and a more than reasonable addition to a true fan’s collection. The packaging is cool, too, especially for this particular release as they’ve been able to replicate the die-cut cover art and wheel. Enjoy!

I was hoping that the sonic quality was going to be really improved here, but I don't really perceive that much difference from the other re-releases (I heard that Page used the actual masters rather than copies like the earlier re-releases???). I was hoping that in re-mastering Jimmy would have punched up the bottom end a bit and pushed the sound closer to what they got with the "In Through the Out Door" session. I really want to hear Bonham in that fashion, but if you're a "mid-range" sound guy and Page oriented I think you'll like these discs. One cool thing is the old album art has been faithfully reproduced - spinning wheel and all. Nice to get some bonus tracks and alternative cuts - nothing to die for but nice to have if you don't already have those things.

Underated third album from the mighty Zep!

The third Zep album was met with mixed feelings as their were many acoustic based songs, developed from their stay at Bron-y-aur in Wales. But between those and the riff rockers "Immigrant Song" and "Out On The Tiles", this shows how diverse Zeppelin could be. This album was a great set-up for the next one to follow....Zeppelin IV (Zoso). The companion disc has many different and interesting mixes of the proper songs on the album. The song quality of these remasters is amazing. The best I have ever heard from a remastering job.

CD1 is remastered to a higher standard than previous reissues. The second CD is weak as there is nothing compelling and no lost treasures for a knowledgeable LZ fan. Even a new fan would not be impressed by the alternative mixes and partial versions. A better alternative would have to have included a full concert from the 1970 tour prior to the release of LZIII in 1970. For instance, they played some great shows in Fort Worth, Houston and Oklahoma City as well as the California and Northwest in August 1970.

As a big Led Zeppelin fan, I was eager to get these remasters of Led Zeppelin mainly for the bonus material. However, if you already have the complete set from previously, this release is not necessary for the casual fan. The demos are interesting to listen to, but after one or two times, I can't imagine repeated listens like the album tracks. I couldn't tell a huge difference aurally between the two masters (but I am not an audio expert). So unless you are a die-hard fan, you may want to skip this one.

In 1969, Led Zeppelin hit it big with their first two groundbreaking albums, which both remain landmarks in the history of rock music and laid the foundation for all hard rock and heavy metal to follow. But with the release of LED ZEPPELIN III in 1970, it showed that the band had more than just blues-inflected rock in their musical veins. In my opinion, this is the definitive Led Zeppelin album; it's certainly their most creative, thoughtful, and introspective LP.

Weakest musically of the first three albums

LZIII is by far the weakest of the three albums to begin with (the only AOR track was the Immigrant Song), although fans will argue about the bluesy and gospel feel to this record being a true bell weather of the band's range. I like it but not enough to get incredibly excited about the extra tracks, although there are some nuggets here. As always, if you're a fan, you've already made up your mind, so why are you reading my review?

Great band the third album went acoustic and the critics hated it over time they once again realized how wrong they were people just don't like change and zep jumped forward a lot with this album and even though its considered the acoustic album crank it up and man does it rock. The bonus disc has some great jams and alternate mixs the first song has the guitar up front and it makes it sound incredibly different worth the money.

I was not happy with the remaster of the box set so I think these new remasters sound so much better - fuller bass. I never heard LZ 3 all the way through before so it took me by surprise when the beginning of Immigrant song began with that hiss. I had to look that up to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my disc. It turns out that was studio sound deliberately placed on the original recording.

It is nice to have a new release, but the live stuff should have been better as the is a whole lot out there that fan would love to hear.. The studio should have been better, such as original writes before final version. Half a this album has been released several different ways... We need more unreleast music...

I love all led zeppelin music. This album is classic zeppelin. it probably has some of the most diverse amount of songs. everything from some hard classic recognized by everyone to folksy kinds country sounds. it shows all the range of music ability that this band is capable of. the remix sound is awsome!

The bonus disc offers an alternate version of most of the album which is great . Hearing different versions of songs we grew up with makes the whole package seem new as opposed to a retread. The remastering even makes the last track which has always been a difficult listen for me revealing and enjoyable.

This album has always rotated between my favorite or 2nd fave Zep album. The job that Mr. Page has done here is astounding. The sound is nothing short of amazing and the bonus disc is wonderful. I love the alternate mix of Immigrant Song and the rough mix of Since I've Been Loving You is equally great.

yeah, this is the 4th time i've bought this album (cassette, cd, remastered cd) but this version was worth it. page has outdone himself with the new mix. cd has the cool rotating cover like the original LP, and the second disc of early and alternate takes is really interesting.

This is another great album by Led Zeppelin. Easily one of my favorite albums. I love the insight the bonus disc brings to the music. There are a couple of tracks that are without vocals / rough cuts and allow you focus on the instrumentation.

The music is terrific but. In order to replicate the cover graphics with the dial the cd is forced into a center sleeve which scrapes the cd when removing or replacing. The packaging on Led Zepplin 1 & 2 do not have this issue.

Just as the remastering of Led Zeppelin I was amazing, this one follows suit... Granted you know the music, but reliving it in it's remastered state makes the experience of something classic become something new.

These remasters are fantastic. Way better than the Marino versions from the 90s. Great sound. Better clarity, all fades and channels have been corrected. Packaging is fantastic. Price was great. You can't lose.
