Ledger is one of the best know hardware wallets and the Nano is quite well know. the Nano S Plus is quite similar with upgraded hardware and most importantly more storage for apps (and therefore more token types on a single wallet). The software has come a long way and ledger live is excellent and keeps getting better. The instructions and website information are excellent. The process remains quite complex but is required to allow the combination of ease of use and Crypto safety these hardware wallets provide. Cryto in general requires careful reading of instructions and attention to detail - the ledger software is well written and unless one is careless you will be sucessful. Know that this model is wired only and has no battery or Bluetooth. It can not be connected to an iOS device but ledger live will allow you to monitor accounts on the excellent iOS ledger live app by scanning a QR code from the desktop version (this only must be completed once unless you add additional accounts and does not compromise your security.

    Useful & Secure Crypto Wallet

This crypto wallet does provide a very desirable function to consolidate all your crypto into one device. This particular Nano S Plus sits in the middle of the current array of Ledger devices. It can have as many as 100 installed apps – note these must be the apps the device will recognize. One of the apps I use for Bitcoin for example was not included in the current accepted apps but Ledger does give you an opportunity to request future inclusion – nice touch. In any event, the list of acceptable apps will allow you to manage all your various crypto currencies in one place. Most important is the security of the device. A tip of the cap to the Ledger design engineers for using a secure certified chip (CC EAL5+) to ensure your protection is optimized in today’s world. You can install apps on many platforms including Windows, Mac, Android, Apple iOS and even Linux. This device does not have Bluetooth connectivity (the Ledger Nano X does but costs more), so you will need a cable. Oddly the device has a USB C port but the single cable provided works only with a computer USB A port; although the cell phone use is touted. I started to install on my Android cell phone and found at that time that I would need a USB C to USB C cable which was not supplied. This was not optimal since it is very important to do a smooth install to be sure you manage the security of the device. Point is that while installing, the device will generate a 24 word code (called your Secret Recovery Phrase) that you MUST record and not lose. This 24 word code is the only way to recover your assets if you lose/damage your Nano device, or forget your pin. So I was surprised to realize I had to go find the right cable after I installed the app and was ready to connect. The other concern as to installation was that you are warned to very carefully follow the step by step instructions but one of the first things I noticed was even after I installed the app, one instruction popped up to download the app which was already running. My critique is that this is a very sensitive situation so the software designers need to go back through their instructions to eliminate even these types of smaller bits of confusion to ensure confidence in the users for a device that handles financial transactions. Another area of install I would alter is the input of your PIN, I noticed that as you enter a digit it is then blocked from view. In the install situation it would be better to leave the pin digits displayed. You do need to reenter the PIN for verification so that helps. But the designers should realize that you are creating your PIN in a secure environment and it is more important to show the PIN since the user will be wanting full awareness of what is going on. Small point but I think worthy to note. Overall I was satisfied that the device is secure, just needs some tweaking on the install. I like the ability to manage all your crypto currency in one very secure spot. This device is functionally very well designed and I would recommend it.

The device itself is of excellent quality, with excellently thought out and well designed packaging and information. compared to trezor & others in this price range, it's superior for same $ range. not concerning their ehtics or poor marketing decisions, this is. a great device and easily understood by the novice.

    Great hardware Crypto Wallet

The Ledger Nano S Plus crypto hardware wallet is a great little device. I am relatively new to crypto, but had been hearing about hardware wallets a lot recently, and was curious what they were all about. The Ledger Nano S Plus is relatively easy to set up, and takes about 30 minutes. It comes with a USB-C cable, 3 cards to write down your 24 word recovery phrase, and a little keychain. The device itself has an LCD screen and two navigation buttons. Even though it has a screen, it doesn't have a battery or anything, and only works when plugged in. To set it up, you download the Ledger Live app to your computer, and it walks you through everything step by step. It's all very simple. Part of this process is writing down your 24 word recovery phrase. It makes you write it down, and then re-enter it to confirm, so be sure to write it down and not just skip over this step. It's very important you have these words accurate in case you ever need to recover your key. And of course, keep the card safe and secure where no one can get it. After everything is set up, you can add "apps" to the device for each coin you want to use. Again, the app really makes it all very simple. The main thing I like about the Ledger Nano S is it's security. Even when it is plugged in, your key is offline, so it is very secure. Your key lives offline, so you and you alone own it and are in control of it. From what I've been reading about keeping your key on an exchange is that you have very little control if that exchange were to get hacked or shut down or something. Having your key locked away in a physical object that you control is so much more secure. I am very happy with the Ledger Nano S, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a hardware crypto wallet, or anyone even just curious about getting into crypto.

As a semi-knowledgable crypto investor, until i received this device, I had always stored my crypto on either exchanges or in well known/popular software wallets. I still feel relatively comfortable doing so, however if/when my portfolio grows, I know it is smarter and safer to have either a hardware wallet or cold storage to truly protect my investment. Having never used a device like this before, I will admit that I was intimidated. However, as far as setup goes, Ledger does make it fairly easy to set up the device thanks to their customer software and step by step setup instructions. The first thing I did was go to the URL that is plainly posted on their packaging once you open the box: ledger.com/start Pretty simple already. From there, it was easy to download and install their software. Once you launch it, it literally takes you step by step through connecting the wallet to your computer via the provided USB cable and then setting it up. Not only does the software on your computer tell you exactly what to do, but the step by step instructions for setting it up are available directly on the screen of the Ledger Nano S Plus as well, and those were the instructions I followed. It walks you through setting up a 4 to 8 digit PIN number to unlock/access the wallet. It then walks you through how to get your secure 24 word recovery pass phrase in case you ever need it. Assuming you're already familiar enough with crypto to understand how buying, selling, sending, receiving and transferring crypto works, the Ledger app makes it pretty simple to send/receive your crypto to/from exchanges. The bigger and more valuable my portfolio grows, the more I will appreciate having this bad boy store my crypto safe and sound.

Includes USB-A to USB-C cord, but it could be a tad longer. Not really a big deal, as you can use just about any USB-C cord. The Ledger support site has an easily found article on how to migrate your crypto from a Nano S to the S Plus. When entering your recovery phrase, you only have to enter a few letters before the Nano S Plus starts presenting possible words. Additionally, as you enter a letter, the list of subsequent letters decreases, eliminating letters that wouldn’t result in a valid word. Welcome relief, as I was figuring that I’d have to completely spell out all 24 words. The S Plus has significantly more app space than the Nano S. I’m finally able to keep all of the crypto apps I use installed, rather than having to uninstall/install each whenever I have to make a transaction. Overall, this is a definite upgrade from my Nano S. If you’re looking at the Nano S or Nano S Plus, I think the S Plus is absolutely worth the $20 difference. Between the increased storage space and the USB-C connection, you can’t go wrong.

I have been learning about crypto just over the last year, so I am still a bit of a novice. I had been mostly sitting on the side lines until a couple months ago. It seemed like we were in a bubble but recently as prices have dropped, I have been slowly growing my stake in three different coins. If you have your funds within a centralized exchange (CEX) like Binance or Gemini your funds aren’t truly in your control, nor are they insured if the exchange were to go bankrupt. So I really didn’t want to keep any significant money stored there. I had a little experience as I had set up both a MetaMask and a Loopring L2 wallet prior to this. I would say the instructions and just all around methodology of setting up the Nano-S-Plus was the easiest and most logical of those 3. Start to finish it probably took 20-30 minutes and other than perhaps struggling to read some small text it was a very smooth process. The Ledger itself looks like a well built USB drive. The Ledger desktop interface is excellent. Easy to navigate and learn as you go. It doesn’t just hold your crypto, you can fund your wallet and trade coins right from the app. Many well written articles on their website are just a click or two away if you want to dive deeper into any specific subject. Personally I wanted to learn a little bit more about the pros and cons of staking and mission accomplished! Oh and this is just silly fun, but I really liked the paperwork they give you to write down your secret recovery phrase. Looks like something out of some old spy movie lol. So all in all my experience was great and I highly recommend this for device for someone looking for a crypto hardware wallet. In less than an hour I was set up with some coins transferred in and much knowledge gained. And I have a price target in mind if a particular coin drops to a certain price, which I will purchase and stake. Great job in designing this device, its interface and the webpage! I would absolutely recommend this device to a friend.

    Solid Crypto Wallet

The Nano S Plus Crypto Hardware Wallet is a solid device. Most folks at this point have at least heard of crypto, even if they haven't dabbled in it. I happen to have a fairly substantial crypto portfolio but have lagged behind when it comes to staking or using a crypto wallet. So I was excited to try out the Nano S Plus. The instructions that come with the Nano are minimal. They basically say to go a website and download the app. I did that. The app then guides you through. You will need to plug it into your phone, as it does not appear to have BT capability. The instructions do not say whether you plug it into your computer or phone, but the app download options were only iOS or Android, so I deduced I needed to plug it into my phone. It uses a USB-C connector, but the other end was a standard full-size USB connector. So, the cable of course did not fit my phone. I had another cable I was able to use. Perhaps it also connects to a computer and will download an app for a desktop, but I didn't want to push my luck and mess anything up. Once you connect, you use the buttons on the Nano to navigate through the menus. I had presumed the app would control the device, but that's not how it worked. Using the small Nano was somewhat challenging for my middle-aged eyes. Text was difficult to read. The screen is small, and resolution is nothing to write home about. Speaking of small, the company likes small print. The cardboard note sheet you get to write your 24 recovery word passphrase has small spaces. Bless you folks with large handwriting, you're not going to make it fit and will have to log your words another way. After going through all that and confirming the 24 words (also fun with a small screen and using manual buttons to select rather than being able to use the app and my phone), the app took 4 attempts to actually connect with the Nano after setup. I'm not sure why that was, but it did eventually connect. At that point, the app gave me a short quiz to test my knowledge of how using a crypto wallet works and then opens the dashboard. There are no real instructions about how to import your crypto, but it's not all that hard. I suggest looking at a how-to video on YouTube or similar. The wonderful thing is that once you stake your crypto, it is much safer than when the exchanges control your key. Your crypto remains on the blockchain, but your key remains securely in your Nano. Of course, this means you do not want to lose the Nano or your access codes and passwords. Once you stake your crypto with this or any wallet, be careful to make sure you know where it is and how to access it. The Nano S Plus is a convenient and nearly essential tool to safeguard your crypto. I recommend it, but I do wish the display were better, the interface was more app-dependent, and there were better guides within the app for importing your crypto.

Great to secure Crypto, not so much to buy it

I have been investing in Crypto for a handful of years. I purchased and held them in a popular exchange. I recently became concerned with my Crypto holdings as I saw a note that if the exchange were to collapse, I would lose my holdings. This got me looking into hardware wallets. With a hardware wallet, your Crypto holdings stay on the Blockchain (like a banking ledger), but you hold the ultimate keys to transact. Since your hardware wallet remains offline most of the time, it's far less likely to get hacked. I had looked at the previous Ledger Nano S, but that had a very limited amount of memory to store very few different types of Crypto. Luckily, the Ledger Nano S Plus can hold hundreds more different types of Crypto. In the box, you get the Ledger Nano S Plus, a few pages of documentation, a nearly 20-inch USB-A to USB-C cable, a keychain loop and three secret recovery sheets. These recovery sheets are meant to be used to record your recovery keys and then stored in 3 geographically disparate locations (e.g. safety deposit boxes on separate continents). The Ledger Nano S Plus has a small screen, two input buttons and a USB-C port. The port is a little tighter than I expected, so I had to put a little more force to insert the USB-C cable than I expected. The input buttons are used to scroll through the display and pressing both buttons simultaneously typically acts like an enter key. Setup of the Ledger Nano S Plus involves downloading and installing the Ledger Live application. Since this Nano S Plus does not have Bluetooth, installing on a mobile device wasn't desirable for me. I installed it on my desktop first and then later installed it on my laptop. Throughout the process to obtain your recovery keys and PIN code, you get the sense that the device is very secure. The setup process does take some time, so be sure to block out 30 minutes to perform this setup. Setting up the wallet to be able to hold different types of Crypto was interesting. Ledger calls each separate Crypto an App. As I was setting these different apps, I had to validate different steps on the Ledger Nano S Plus device itself. I quickly realized that I should do this on a laptop instead of stooping down towards my desktop on the floor since the USB cable is only 20 inches long. When I ordered this Ledger Wallet, I intended to transfer all my holdings from the exchange to my wallet. Sadly this is not available for everything. While it supports the most popular Cryptos, I have accumulated a few pennies of various esoteric Cryptos that are available on my exchange's wallet that are not available in the Ledger Wallet. For those various Cryptos, their developers need to work with Ledger's API to gain compatibility. So there is a good chance that some of the less popular ones will never be supported by Ledger. One of my tests for this Ledger Wallet was to transfer a small amount (5 USD) from my exchange account to my Ledger Wallet. I was pleased with the amount of security required to confirm this transaction and it went through in a couple minutes with a nominal transaction fee. Since I was taking a little while to get through this, I found out that the Ledger has a screen saver for its little screen, it's just the Ledger "L" logo that pops up several instances and moves across its screen. The second test is where I really got frustrated with the Ledger system. I wanted to purchase some Ethereum directly to my Ledger Wallet. This would allow me to minimize the transaction fees as I would be purchasing Crypto without having the pay the purchasing fee and then a transfer fee from the exchange to the Ledger Wallet. Purchases can be accomplished via 1 of 4 payment processors. I started with Coinify. After setting up the desired purchase transaction and entering my information, I indicated that I live in Michigan and then it errored saying that Coinify does not service Michigan yet. So I moved on to MoonPay, I got through further and was able to enter my credit card information and that's when I got the message that it checked my credit card number and it would not be able to use my credit card (this message comes up before I can add in my expiration or security code). I tried several more credit cards and they all had the same message. I looked briefly at BTC Direct and found they only transact in Euros. I skipped this because I didn't want to pay a foreign transaction fee on top of the purchase fee. Then I tried Wyre. Wyre only allows ACH transfers. I got through further on this system than any of the other payment processors and when I selected Bank of America, it said that it could not communicate with the bank. I then selected Fidelity and after entering my Fidelity credentials, it came back with a message that the transaction could only be made during certain times of the day. A couple hours later, I went back into Ledger Live, and then back into Wyre. It asks to create a new account with no option to use an existing account. As I entered my new account information, I got a "cannot remove last identity of that type". So in the end, I cannot get any of the payment processors to work more efficiently than purchasing on my exchange account and then transferring to the Ledger Wallet. In the end, if you're just looking to secure your holdings in the most popular Cryptos, the Ledger Nano S Plus hardware wallet is fine. But if you have holdings in less popular Cryptos, it likely won't be supported by this wallet. And if you want to purchase Cryptos using the Ledger system, you're likely to be out of luck like me unless you have the right kind of credit card or bank account.

My question was also does this act as a hot wallet or a cold wallet? I mention this because the required software to use the ledger usb already exposes the potential anonymity of the user needing to register to use the device. Which may possibly lead to a MAC address, IP address, or another form of identification from the device. Not to mention the product being already RFID and depending on the form of payment used at the time of merchant and including CCTV cams can already expose anonymity. Plus, I'm pretty sure there was a huge data leak at LEDGER' who knows what was stolen..

Took a little while to get going with this but once I read the instructions and figured it out very carefully, it's a worthy tool to have. Works. Almost like a SSD external hard drive but specifically for cryptocurrencies and to travel with them on the go. I still don't get the complete intricacies of this device and exactly what it does. But I do know of the four cryptos that I bought I was able to download from one of my computers and just to see how it connected uploaded to my laptop computer. I don't recommend all of the switching around somewhere between your confusion and a device is confusion could lead to some trouble. I don't have a great need for this just yet, but it's nice to have it for when my crypto currencies grow and I'm walking around with way more money than I know what to do with. Easy to transport and easy to move the information. I had a white hat friend of mine test. Its RFID shielding and it worked pretty well, we didn't put it through the ringer but it stood up to a very basic RFID potential hack. If you have crypto, you need one of these.
