Owned about every current day handheld there is and this was the only one that fit my hands w/o any cramping due to slight carpal tunnel. Battery life could be better but this device ran any game I put it again easily (besides Ghostwire Tokyo where it wouldn't load at all). Airflow was amazing and kept it cool throughout playsession. Although for this being like a "upgrade" from the Steam Deck in a sense, the price leaves it hard to recommend especially with the Z2 Extreme chips coming out. If a Legion Go S 2 comes out or this one goes on sale, get it.

Only downfall is the battery. Love the steam os. Much much more comfortable than the original legion go. The ergonomics are amazing. Screen is perfect. I haven't had any regrets about purchasing this system.

This is a very nicely designed handheld. Before I start my my review, please note it is from a Steam Deck OLED 1TB owner's perspective. With that said... Pros: - Great ergonomics - feels awesome in the hands; comparable with Steam Deck except I prefer the symmetrical thumbsticks on the Steam Deck. To reach the right thumbstick my hand actually has to offset from full contact with the grip. The Steam Deck I can hold fully with no issues. I think one could eventually get used to the Legion Go over time though. - Great screen. Between this LCD and the Steam Deck OLED ... I couldn't really tell the difference in low light. But in brighter lights, the Steam Deck screen's anti-reflective coating wins hands down. By comparison, the Legion Go screen in the right angles can almost double as a mirror! Probably better to apply some kind of screen protector with anti-glare if expected to game a lot in brighter environments. Cons: - Trackpad - nigh unusable. Coming from a Steam Deck, it's puzzling why this is even there. Trying to use it like the Steam Deck track pads to move a mouse cursor is a futile effort. It doesn't move, then moves, then jumps too far; trying to move it back repeats the experience. Basically just no. - Performance out of the box; it's set to play games at its native resolution of 1080p, which basically negates any kind of improvement the Z1E chip is supposed to give over the Steam Deck APU. Quick tests for games such as Resident Evil 4 remake, Lies of P, and Warhammer Space Marine 2 did not produce any notable performance fps improvements over the Steam Deck that I had expected - maybe my expectations were too high? - Higher TDP made no difference that I could see (again no tweaks, just out of the box). I cranked it way up to 30W from 15W and *maybe* saw 1-2 fps improvement? Basically nothing. The bottleneck has got to be somewhere else I suppose, maybe some kind of memory bandwidth? Kind of a letdown if true, because then one would have paid for all this power for almost nothing. Neither pros nor cons, or just not enough info - I did end up getting really good performance vs. the Steam Deck but it took some tweaking. I installed LSFG and FSR4 plugins, and fixed the game resolution to 800p to match the Steam Deck and whoa, I was gaming at 100+ fps on Lies of P (Steam Deck could go from 80-90 with similar config). This is neither a pro nor a con because I felt if one was to spend the money for this but have to step down the native resolution, it's kind of a wash. But it's a way to get the performance for sure. - I read about other reports on battery life being particularly bad on this; but all my gaming sessions are very short, maybe 20 mins or so. Hence I didn't really have an issue on this one. All in all, if considering one of these at MSRP, I would probably advise one to get Steam Deck OLED (preferably a refurbished unit) for max value - install the LSFG and FSR4 plug ins and enjoy. If one could find an open box excellent for the price I got it, maybe an argument could be made if one isn't expected to try navigating SteamOS desktop mode with that unusable trackpad. Then it's also a great device. Hope this helps folks who are on the fence! If one already has a Steam Deck OLED, it's probably a good guess by now my advice would be to keep that and wait for more advancements like Intel's recently announced Panther-lake chips to make it into handhelds and see.

The screen is pretty good and the sticks, bumpers, and triggers feel great, even if it is not very comfortable to hold overall. I love having a Steam OS option, but it was not carefully integrated. For example you have to use third party plugins to control the LEDs and they don't work right when switching to desktop mode. Biggest complaints are severely inadequate battery capacity, loud fan noise, completely useless trackpad, lack of a case, and the speakers aren't very great. I still use it over my steam deck but the steam deck is honestly a much better thought out and executed product in many ways. The only thing this really has over it is a higher resolution. But it feels more like trying to cram a computer into your hands in a rush than a console optimized for portable gaming.

Stellar Handheld Gaming Experience with the Legion

I recently picked up the Legion Go S 8” 120Hz Gaming Handheld with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, running SteamOS, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. As someone who’s been diving into portable gaming, this device has quickly become my go-to for on-the-go sessions. Here’s why I’m absolutely thrilled with it: First off, the fact that it runs SteamOS out of the box is a game-changer. Unlike Windows-based handhelds that can feel bloated and clunky, SteamOS is sleek, lightweight, and laser-focused on gaming. It’s built on Linux, which means it boots up in seconds without all the unnecessary background processes that drain battery life on Windows devices. Updates are seamless and handled directly through Steam—no dealing with intrusive Windows updates or antivirus pop-ups mid-game. Plus, the integration with my Steam library is flawless; everything just works without needing to tweak settings or install extra drivers. If you’ve ever fought with Windows on a handheld for controller mapping or performance optimization, SteamOS eliminates that hassle entirely, delivering a console-like experience that’s optimized for efficiency and immersion. Portability is another huge win. At just 8 inches, it’s compact enough to slip into my backpack without feeling bulky, making it perfect for travel, commutes, or lounging on the couch. The ergonomics are spot-on—the detachable controllers feel natural in hand, with responsive buttons and joysticks that don’t cramp up during long play sessions. And let’s talk about that purple color; it’s a vibrant, eye-catching Steam edition hue that stands out from the usual black or gray gadgets. It adds a fun, personalized touch without being over-the-top. Performance-wise, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme handles demanding titles smoothly on the 120Hz display, and with 1TB of storage, I’ve got plenty of room for my library. Boot times are lightning-fast, often ready in under 10 seconds, which means I can jump right into games without waiting around. Overall, if you’re in the market for a powerful, user-friendly handheld that prioritizes gaming purity over general computing, the Legion Go S is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend it—it’s elevated my portable gaming experience to the next level!

Picked this up for $650 and it's probably the best value on the market. Works really great. Showed coworkers and they were impressed. I can play Spider-Man 2 (with performance mode) at 60 fps full resolution but with the graphics turned all to low. (Still looks good like that tbh) Fallout 4, Mass Effect Trilogy, and Halo MCC run flawless. Full price being $900, I would suggest moving up to the Xbox ally x, but if you can get this puppy for sale, it's worth it. Very satisfied with: my sale price of $650, performance, and build qualify. After holding the Xbox ally x, I will say this isn't as comfortable, but you put on a Dbrand case and you'll be good to go.

The device is excellent in many respects and the best of all I've tried, and I've had at least all the major OEM devices. Compared to the deck, the standout features are the display (even compared to oled), performance and ergnomics (man with largish hands). Compared to the Ally, well, SteamOS is the icing on the cake. Instead of power on, dismiss various notifications, swipe up, long press, close app, x2, x3, update armoury crate, reboot, update windows, reboot, wait the armoury crate update didn't take, repeat...it's wake up, press play, play. Every time. When you do need settings adjustments, the menu is more intuitive and streamlined with the most commonly adjusted settings front and center with easily ledgible text.

This is an amazing device. I love steam os and with the z1e it rocks. I will say that the battery could be better so lower settings or plug in or a battery pack or else expect to only play an hour on triple A games. It’s like a steam deck on steroids and the 8 inch screen is nice but top notch quality. I just wish it had a larger battery and it would be five stars

Works flawlessly with all my games, easy to use, fast to power up, and an instant sleep that stops all battery drain during pauses, even some as long as several hours. A comfortable grip makes playing this for extended time periods easy. I knew the Z2 Extreme model were coming, but also saw that would be several hundred $ more, without a corresponding gain in specs. This unit is perfect for my needs

Most comfortable handheld and pretty powerful. I tried the SteamDeck, Rog Ally, Switch 2, etc.; this is the most comfortable for me to hold. Performance is good too. And even battery life, if I play 2D games, I can get up to 5-7 hours with stable 120 FPS. I also purchased a power bank, so when traveling, I can get over 1.5x more battery life with no issues. The only thing I miss is the lack of an OLED display. Playing outside, it is quite dim. And playing in the dark - all blacks are grey, very noticeable since all my other devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop, and TV) are OLEDs with perfect blacks.

This is my first high powered PC handheld and I love it! Steam OS makes it work right out of the box. The screen is amazing even though it isn’t OLED. Battery runs out a little quicker then I would like, however I’ve also been playing demanding games on performance mode. I am a working Dad of two and being able to jump in and out of games is a must. I’ve been looking for a more powerful steam deck and the legion go s is exactly that.

I will say hiwever that i play mistly plugged in to an outlet to take advantage of the 1200p resolution and higher fps. Nit plugged in the battery is abysmal. Still fir me the 50% boost in resolution its wirth tha caveats. I still have my oled, but have given it to my daughter. If this is not on saje, and you see a oled refurbished fir 4 abd change it is a fine purchase.

GET IT. I had the original OG Lenovo Legion Go (LeGO) and I really liked it. But my issue with the OG LeGO was that it was really heavy and the ergonomics on it sucked (personally). and I found myself hardly gaming on it because it felt slows sometimes and it's annoying having to quit the game and then fully turning off the LeGo since windows wasn't the best experience for handheld gaming, in my opinion. HOWEVER, with the Legion Go S (LeGOS), I find myself using it all the time and gaming on it for extend period of times bare bones. The Software and User experience is unrivaled with SteamOS. STEAMOS I WANNA APOLOGIZE, I WASNT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR GAME!! It's so good to play a game, put it to sleep, and then youre back in the game exactly where u left off 3 days ago. Performance is amazing on this with the Z1 extreme as I'm playing HellDivers 2 (game installed on an SD card) and I put about 45-62 FPS on balanced settings (and I often play Helldivers connected to my monitor and see about the same performance!!). This thing is just a beast! Get it, You won't regret it unless you like other brands and Windows experience more.

Love it! I am a huge Lenovo fan and my gaming laptop is also a Lenovo legion. I love that they created a more powerful machine than the steam deck with steamOS added! I don’t really care that the screen isn’t oled, I have no issues with my screen at all, it looks great. I opened mine up and upgraded the internal storage to a Samsung PRO 990 -4TB. Yes, it’s a little overkill..BUT it’s amazing that it is compatible with a full size M.2! There is also room for a microSD slot, so plenty of room
