Presentation: I can't really think of anything outstanding about LSW's presentation, but on the other hand, I can't think of any real flaws. Maybe I just can't think... Ever seen a LEGO set? Well, that's what the game looks like! The characters are all LEGO toys, but they have a full range of motion. On the technical side, the game runs pretty solid at 60 fps. Most of the graphics aren't high-poly textured wonders because they correctly emulate the LEGO toys! Once again, there are no big flaws to speak of. The audio can be described the same way. The music is taken straight from the films' soundtrack, and the sound effects fit the game well. Characters grunt and jabber, lasers make laser-y sounds, and explosions explode. Once again, not really any flaws. The game features numerous cutscenes, many of which are humorous. Though the characters never speak, you can always tell what is going on and you'll probably recognize a lot from the movies. Game Play: In LEGO Star Wars, the characters are divided into groups. Characters within a group usually have all the same abilities; in other words, the differences are usually only cosmetic. Jedi characters carry lightsabers, can jump high, and can use the force. Jump characters can jump the highest of all the characters. And so forth. During the game, your party has all the character types necessary to complete the level. Levels are progressed through by defeating enemies, pressing switches, completing puzzles, etc. Probably the best feature of the game play is the ability to play two-player co-op mode. This makes the game a lot more fun, since you must work together to finish levels. Game play mechanics are generally decent, but the levels in which you pilot aircraft are very bad. The spaceships are hard to control and just a little too fast to really feel like you're playing and not just button-mashing. Thankfully, ship levels don't usually appear more than once every 5 or 6 stages. The controls are simple and easy to use, but in a sense, disappointing. One of the biggest hype points for the Wii version was that you could control the lightsaber with the Wii remote. While that statement is technically true, the control is limited to simply swinging the remote in any direction to make the character attack, as opposed to controlling your lightsaber's actual movement and position. Swinging the remote has the same effect as pressing the B button. Value: LEGO Star Wars is loaded with extras. Each level has extra goals, like collecting a certain amount of LEGO money, finding secret bricks, and collecting all the pieces of a LEGO vehicle kit. Although that adds a lot more playing time, the game can still become boring. LSW has TONS of unlockables--characters, levels, vehicles, easter eggs--that you can buy with the LEGO money you collect in the levels. I would estimate the total play time needed to unlock all the levels and accomplish every objective to be about 75 hours. Yeah. So if you're trapped on a desert island with just this game, it'll be at least a few days before you have to do the exact same thing over again. The two-player co-op is a great value booster, and there's also a battle multiplayer mode. Intangibles: It's LEGOs... come on! This game has charm, and I can't remember the number of times I saw things in this video game that made me laugh or drop my jaw. Overall: If you like LEGOs, or Star Wars, or just funny games with loads of extras, this is the game for you.

Just right for my younger son

My 7 year old picked this out of the previously owned section. He played it more when we first got it, but quickly got bored with it (more his attention span than the game, I think). However, this is my 5 year old's favorite. He loves this game and never gets tired of playing it. He's his own running commentary and is quite entertaining to listen to him while he plays!

My 12 year old sister got this game recently and we finished playing through all the episodes last night. I gotta say, not many games have the kind of replay value this game has. We were only 33.74% done after playing through every episode once. There's tons of characters and extras to unlock and tons of stuff to find and do. You won't fully complete this game without investing some serious time into it. This game is best played in co-op with a friend or family member. As for me i'm 18 playing with my 12 year sister. It's a lot of fun and it has tons of moments that are funny, just not laugh out loud hilarious. You'll notice that this game doesn't take itself seriously at all. It did get a little boring for me after a few hours but i'm that way with every game. My only major gripe with this game is a horrible camera during co-op. Me and my sister were constantly arguing when we would both try to go in a different direction and the camera wouldn't allow it, more than a few times resulting in one of us falling off a cliff. Speaking of which, you can never get a game over. You just lose lego pieces (a kind of currency) every time. Besides the camera problems, this is a fun game with tons of replay value best played with a friend or family member.

The rating is E-10+, so I bought it for my 7 yr old and tested it out first to make sure it would be appropriate for him. I got addicted to it. It’s fun to try to figure out what to do to get more studs and how to get at the canisters. Free Play mode is great as it lets you explore areas that you can’t get to in story mode. There is a lot to do and even if you character “falls apart” it will regenerate with full hearts to keep going. The only thing is you will loose studs for every time this happens. Now my son and I will spend rainy weekends playing this game for hours. I would recommend this for anyone who is a Star Wars fanatic.

Still great fun as combined Saga a great upgrade

As a lego fan and Star Wars fan, this game was a dream come true. I originally owned (and beat) both of the games on the PC. When I got my Wii, one of my first games was to get the whole saga on one disc to use with my Wii. I was at first disapointed that swinging the Wii-mote does not really swing the lightsaber the same way (you can just randomly shake it and it does its own thing on screen anyway). You can also just use the B button to fire and swing, which is fine because after a while with all the action, your arm would get tired. There are fun ways the Wii mote is used such as grappling hooks. I was also extremely happy to see that they also upgraded both games when they combined them into the saga disc with lots of new extras, new characters, new force powers, new bonus levels, and lots of improvements and secrets to the original levels making this a really complete package and worth the upgrade. Plus now your Ep 4-6 characters can go into free play mode into Ep 1-3. Spoiler> along with great bonus levels and a duel arcade mode, there is new characters to unlock, including a sneak peak of the new Indiana Jones Lego game! You can use Indy with his whip and gun running around a Legoland town smashing things alongside Darth Maul! For fun things like this alongside the tongue-in-cheek humor as each movie of Star Wars is created, often shot for shot, this game is a must and will be enjoyed by kids and their parents who can easily play together.

I own this game on the Xbox 360 and have been enjoying it. My kids who are still a little too young for the Xbox controls enjoy watching me play it. Now that you can get this game for $20 or less, I picked it up for the Wii for my kids. They love it! There are still a few places that are a challenge for them that they've asked for my help with. They haven't seen all of the Star Wars movies, but that doesn't matter to them. If you're unfamiliar with the Lego games, there's no voiced dialog so there's nothing objectionable to be heard and when characters "die" they just scatter into Lego pieces. Each of the six movies have six levels to play thru and once you've played thru a level in story mode it unlocks freeplay mode where you can go back thru with different characters and access secret areas you couldn't get to before. Each level also has a challenge mode where you have a set time to get thru while gathering collectables so you get a lot of content for your money plus there are additional areas to play around in. Pick it up and enjoy some time with your kids!
