The propeller on the bottom of the clown car has a clever retraction system so that the car can "land" on a flat surface.

The Clown Car is clever, too, the propeller will fold inside when you set it down so it won’t fall over. Obviously it makes the most sense with Bowser Jr., which you should have if you got the Mario starter course.
