This Super Mario Piranha Plant building set gave him a lot of fun building and is now displayed on a bookcase in his bedroom. Excellent set, highly recommend not just for adults but also for kids (>8).

Honestly thinking of buying one for me too and I’m not a huge Lego or Nintendo fan but it’s pretty nostalgic for someone who enjoyed the NES and SNES.

The manual also has a lot of really cool info on Mario throughout the decades and an interview with this model's designer. Super great value at this price.
